Currently pushing 233,000 miles and routine maintenance is a must. Love this car and would not complain. Yea things will pop up from time to time but its expected.
My mom bought me this car 15 years ago. Now I’m passing it down to my daughter. 121k miles. She’s gonna paint it midnight purple, put new rims, and make it her own. This car is a tank. Oil and coolant changes. That’s it.
Midnight purple is such a cool color man. Ive always wanted an Accord with that color or some sort of black candy paint with some nice tuner style rims, and little quiet muffler delete along to go with the good ol reliable manual transmission. I already got the car I just need the money 😭
I have a silver 08 coupe with navigation and Bluetooth, all still works as well as the maps DVD has been updated, almost 300K and she’s still running like new.
I did the same thing. I purchased my '07 CR-V off of my F.I.L in 2017 when it was garage kept with the purpose of giving it to my daughter who will be driving at the end of December. It had 40,000 miles, now about 141,000. She likes it because it is higher up. I am looking at '07 Accord couple with manual transmissions as my daily driver. I told my daughter just change the oil with syntho every 5,000 and she will last as long as you need it to.
You’re a lucky guy and your daughter is a lucky girl. I’m a 27 year old man with a decent paying job, but I am cheap and am having a hard time bringing myself to spend any more than 10k on a car. But I love these cars and I’m sick of my Chevy Cruze. I might just go for it.
@cr250r9 Spending 10 grand on a car is just about right and has nothing to do with whether you're cheap or not. I recently purchased a 08 accord for my daily commute and ended up giving it to my son as a starter car. I purchased it for 4 grand and did some basic work on it just to make sure everything is OK. Spending too much on a car is a waste of funds but honestly, to each hi/her own.
have a 2012 exl 2.4l with 190k miles. It doesn't burn any oil between changes and has not needed anything other then maintenance. We have done the oil changes based on the oil life indicator, did 3 transmission drain and fills, replaced brakes about 3 or 4 times, it has had about 4 sets of tires, spark plugs twice, air filters etc. It runs just like the day I bought it with 32k used in 2016. Plan to see if we can hit 250k or 300k.
i’m at 170k miles and i’m 19 saving up for a new car (only bc i love cars and want something faster i can mod) but i’ve had this car since i was 16 and PUSHED IT, me and my friends drove to miami with it (we live in inner city dallas 💀) and i didn’t do any maintenance for the first 2 years bc i didn’t know how but i do it all my self and i trust the car with my life. i love it if it was rwd and faster i would never think of buying a new car
This was my first car! I had a 2008 Honda Accord Coupe V6 in dark grey with the black leather interior. Everyone thought it was brand new. The quality of materials was amazing and felt very high end for a Honda. I later traded it in for a 2014 Honda civic coupe which I did for gas savings but I regretted as I missed my accord so much. I now have an Acura RDX for camping, skiing etc which I love but I think about my accord coupe all the time!
While it wasn’t my first car I’d highly recommend it, I’ve got a ‘12 Coupe LX-S k24-5mt. This is my 4th and second manual. I absolutely love it. It’s got just enough creature comforts and decent enough ride quality/cabin sound seasoning to remind you it’s not a civic. I’ve done basic street mods minus a tuner. It’s not as buildable as other hondas due to its head being restricted. It has good base power for what it is, I have no problem passing people without redlining my car at 60+. It handles surprisingly well in 4+ inches of snow so long as you’ve got all seasons or better, despite being a coupe, it’s only 4 inches shorter and still weighs anout ~200 lbs less at 3220 lbs.Anyone looking that’s on the line for a basic/fun commuter or daily should Jump at the chance, not only are the 6 and 4 cylinder both reliable as all hell, they both hold resale value with less than 100k. I got mine mid august of 2022 with 73k on it for 11,500. I see them on car gurus specd like mine with almost 150k miles for 6-8k. I’ve done my oil at 4k and replaced my axles as the boots were torn up a bit. Other than that it’s a dream for anyone that doesn’t mind FWD.
@@NotSoHandyCarGuy always, I’m glad one made it out for a review and still left good thoughts on itself with 200k. I’m going to run mine into the ground (respectfully)
My sentiments exactly. I’ve owned a 2008 2.4 coupe 5 speed, and now I have a 2012 2.4 5 speed. Practical, economical and engaging to drive. Doesn’t get the respect it deserves
The only thing i noticed that you missed, was the fact that the V6 6mt did not have VCM issues, as it didnt have variable cylinder management. As a result, its a much more reliable option than the auto. Otherwise, great video!
This is my first car, got it in June of 2022 at 193k miles with some problems. Engine light kept coming on and off and my dad suspected that one of the pistons don’t work, and it burns engine oil. I just learned that the backseats can be put down! And I finally got an explanation for the rattle noise it makes whenever I start it. I’ll be looking into how to change that myself. Thank you for the video!!
If your piston did not work you would be having serious engine issues lol. I think he meant your piston rings aren’t sealing as good as they should so it’s burning some oil. Unless he meant it was misfiring? Maybe that’s why your check engine light would come and go? The usual fix for that is sparks plugs and coils.
@@twistedflys1205 sadly I totaled it in an accident and the previous owner didn’t really take care of it, so we had to fix a few things. Once it was working though it was great. I lowkey miss it and I’m glad I bought one because it introduced me to the Accord coupes. I’d love to buy another one but preferably a 11-12 v6 exl coupe
I got an 09 coupe v6, came with issues from the previous owner but im taking care of it. Shakes a tiny bit when gassing from 35-40 but drives like an absolute beast. I love it
That shake is a transmission shifting issue. Do a drain and fill on the transmission and that should stop. If you have over 100k miles use a bottle of Lucas stop slip transmission fluid. Always use OEM Honda transmission fluid, never aftermarket fluid.
Excellent car! I have a 2008 V6 with almost 200k on it. Looks brand new, since it was the new generation. Nobody can believe it's an 08. My dad is also a mechanic and I have kept up with it. Had someone at the dealership say the 08 has the best suspension. Deff still worth about 8k.
@@TrueBeingRealization I had a leak underneath the camshaft and then I had a valve adjustment when that was fixed a while ago. I've had tire joints and all that replaced as well and fixed an alternator..etc.
Mine is a 2012 EX-L coupe I4 with 176k and still going strong, routine scheduled maintenance with the standard replacement of brakes and that's it. So reliable and I hope to get it to 300k+
I have a '12 Accord Coupe I4 5MT that I bought new and it's great. Same color as yours too. Only 88000km on it but so far no problems at all. I just change the oil once a year.
2011 EX-L Accord Coupe, was my first car never getting rid of it. It’s now my project car and hope to be the only V8 AWD converted built 8.5 gen coupe!!!
I still daily drive my 2011 Honda Accord with the 2.4L engine. Currently at 337,000 miles with original engine, alternator, timing belt, and transmission. Small parts like front struts/suspension and seals needed to be replaced between 335K-337K. Great car and extremely reliable. *Edit: Recent comments brought to my attention that the 2.4L doesn’t have a timing belt, but a timing chain. The original alternator finally went bad a month ago around 342K miles and I replaced it along with the serpentine belt. I’m at 346K miles now (22 Jan 2025)
@@jayybizz_ 2.4 has a timing chain. The sprockets can be clearly seen in the video. Honda designs their timing chains to last the lifetime of the engine. With regular maintenance you should never need to have it replaced.
Amazing video! Portrays the 8th Gen Accord very well and overall sounds like a great car! Like you were saying, with good maintenance there shouldn't really be any big issues anywhere below 200k miles. Cant wait for some more of these reviews to come out, keep it up!
@@NotSoHandyCarGuy Yeah frequent fluid changes can save you more in the long run and I don't think most people realize that. Sure you might pay a little more now, but it will allow you to keep car for longer, and avoid costly repairs.
@@NotSoHandyCarGuy Agreed. But I think the problem is nothing happens in the short term if you don't change the oil often. There's no immediate consequence. Whereas with gas... Well... You're not going anywhere. I know what's wrong with it! Ain't got no gas in it!
Man you just helped me figure out why I have a ticking sound in my 08 civic when I drive and park, to go into the store I hear a ticking sound.. thanks!
I have one 2008 lx-s with sunroof ! Just crossed 162,000 miles have had it since 2015 Has been through hell and back but it’s still going. You do a great job with this video with thoughtful explanations about this gen of Accord. Due to exactly what you said about general maintenance (or lack of), I bought a car with a worn out K24 engine. I picked up a low mileage K24A from JDM Source in Calgary (who imported it from near Tokyo) and it has 65-80,000km (say 40,000 miles). The Japan sourced engine horsepower is bumped up to 203 from 190 in the Canadian model. This week and weekend - I am in the process of taking out the old engine and in with the new. It always takes me longer than expected but I hope to run this car for the next 20 years. Proof, I have a Honda Ridgeline that I bought used in 2008 and it is still running strong and could run for 10 more years.
Maybe you should to a take on the 2017 Honda Accord V6 manual. That is what I have, a 2 door beautiful 2017 honda accord. Two issues: One is the apple car play, it fails way too often and I live in Germany, and my US Ho=nda Accord came with break discs for low speeds. I had to change the disks and install drilles and slotted disks and that made breaking much better at high speeds. Other than that I love my car. Great video, thanks!
I just want to say great video!!! I got a 99 Civic Si waited 12 years for here an brought her back to life!!!My cousin parked her in a paved driveway because she needed brakes..😂😂🙄🙄💯💯 should do a video sometime on channel!!!!
on the verge of owning my own 8th gen coupe 5 speed soon if everything goes well, wanting to record the day i go and get the vehicle because its actually a car i would want to do my first project on and also a car i’d wanna keep for a long time and maybe pass on to my kids.
I hope I never have to get rid of my 2008 accord coupe V6 EX-L. 😭 She’s been so good to me for 12 years and still going strong. Along with regular maintenance…I’ve replaced the alternator, radiator fan, wheel bearing/hub assembly, timing belt, compressor, a/c leak repair, headliner, leather arm rest and small oil leak gasket. It’s been a great ride and I look forward to going many more miles together.
I don't think I'll be getting rid of our '11 Accord coupe I4 5AT anytime soon. Has almost 100k miles and bought new. Prices of new cars have gone through the roof and they're not necessarily more reliable than the 8th gen Accord. For anyone on the lookout, best to look for 11/12 models. What I like: reliable and powerful enough engine, good handling/driving dynamics, double wishbone front suspension vs MacPherson on the 9th gen and onward, 5AT instead of CVT on the 9th gen and onward, Electronic Stability Control, coupe looks awesome, the 2011/12 tail lights not as nice though, has been a very reliable car. Issues: repaired under warranty/extended warranty -- front passenger backrest beam replaced, VTC actuator replaced (some minor grind occasionally), noisy blower motor fan replaced (still noisy) A/C clutch gave and aftermarket installed. What I don't like: power steering motor whine, which wasn't fixed by replacing the two o-rings and seems to be related to hose diameter. I'm not going to bother. Might just break more things like the bolt haha. Fuel economy is decent but of course compared to newer vehicles, isn't as great, especially in city driving.
This was my first car, still my favourite all these years later. She was my learner's car and was a great starter! Drove her for 2 years and ran great, the only downside was the long hood (especially while turning on a intersection with plants/obstacles so I had to move more forward than I felt was safe to see oncoming traffic) and blind spots due to the design. Also had a recall on the passenger airbag randomly going off so something to keep in mind. But looks sporty, has heated seats, and is a good-looking. Same colour as yours, was a 2010 was an automatic. I'd love to get the V6 later on just for fun. ❤ Awesome review of a special car!
Hey I'm being given this car as my first car by a generous uncle. I know Accords tend to be longer than most other sedans. For normal driving and parking situations do you think I'll be able to get used to it fast?
I just got my white 08 with a little more than 150 on it. I'm zooming ahead on the maintenance before it gets too long in the tooth and updating the look while I'm working with white, black, and red will be my set up😊
You can also get a resistor from some online places that when placed inline on one of the cables, eliminates the eco mode. I did that, and all of my issues went away. No catalytic issues, no #1 spark plug fouling. 100% would recommend for all Honda engines with eco mode.
I have an 8th gen Honda Accord EXL sedan with the 2.4 and 108,000 miles and a 6th gen Honda Accord EXL coupe with the 3.0 V6 and 190,000 miles and they’re both amazing cars! I religiously perform maintenance on them and it definitely makes them way more reliable, especially the transmissions in the 6th gen automatics, mine is the original with 190,000 miles!
I have a 2012 Honda accord coupe 3.5 sunroof LOVE my car so sad they stopped making coupes😢 I have 76,000 miles on it. I have wondered so many times what the heck the knocking noise is when the weather is cooler, to me sounded like a lifter knocking, so glad to have finally have the mystery explained. My TPMS light has been on for years and years changed the tpms things and have had many different mechanics look at it and reset many times, for it to just come back on after 50 to 100 miles it has stumped many.
Lol i love my 8th gen still drive her everyday even though i finally got a better toy. She never left me anywhere lol i got the exl though so much more interior features and a sound system. Don’t think i’ll ever get rid of it was my first car and taught me so much abt doing my own work
Got a 2012 EX-L and the one thing you also have to look out for is the spool valve. Mine went bad and started leaking on to my alternator. Thankfully I noticed it in time before it destroyed it cause I installed a new alternator a couple years ago.
@@Dutchesandsour looking at a engine bay pic of the i4 it seems as if the power steering pump is over the alternator, so this must just be a V6 issue. Now I know what @skimpy33 meant haha
@@ShikyoGryfynstill don't miss a V6? I'm actually looking at an i4 with 110k miles and a V6 with about 50k miles relatively fair pricing, at $10k for the 4 and only $14k for 6 I'm debating now, thought I wanted a car from the 2020s but it's just making a bit more sense to keep to the older gens on a budget.
I have one like this, just purchased as I couldn't afford anything else. Has high mileage at 230k and the transmission is slipping bad. I wish you could do another video where you could explain some of the technical aspects to the car. My last was 24 years old and simple. I am not used to all these 'modern' changes, a lot of it computerized. I didn't have a clue about half the things you talked about in towards the last one third of the video. I wish you could explain it more for more lay person or old guy. I am afraid to drive it too much until I get the transmission fixed. The dealership screwed me but never telling me it had a transmission problem when the engine gets hot. Unfortunately in the State of Louisiana we don't have much protections if we sign off "as is". Never been ripped off before but then I had time to look for a vehicle. My last vehicle was totalled by someone with no insurance and ran. I only had liability as it was an older Toyota but with no problems at all. I have no choice but to made the Honda work. I appreciate all the info so I can do some of the repairs and also not get stiffed with an dishonest mechanic. There are lots of them out there, sadly. Any future videos on these vehicle will be appreciated. Thanks.
I got my 2008 Accord EX in 2016, had 129k miles on it. It has just a bit over 193k on it as of today. I've replaced the battery, tires, but nothing major has happened. Still runs great, though the vtc actuator needs to be replaced but apparently it's a known issue with this car. And my a/c no longer works but I only drive it to work and back so I've never bothered fixing it.
These cars are great in many aspects , space , reliable , v etc , good quality parts , lots of aftermarket support , very high potential motor with a turbo and a tune full bolt ons your easily over 300hp . I know someone personally that has an accord and with a turbo and tune he’s pushing close to 400 hp if not about that much , and the fact that it doesn’t come with a lsd 6 speed transmission is ok because you can literally get a civic si transmission from a 2012-2015 and you’ll have an lsd 6 speed transmission because it easily bolts up to the k24z3
My 09 Honda accord coupe 3.5L V6 EX has 210,000 miles and I just had to replace power steering pump, VVT solenoid, and timing belt tensioner, battery. But for how I use this vehicle for work commute I can’t complain. No rips in seat but I have had to replace center console leather and door leather and I added an android touch screen to modernize the interior which I highly recommend. Love this car but I do wish I had a manual and not auto. But that’s just preference.
Unfortunately, my daughter got one, 2009 with 127,000 miles. after 30 days, it failed while she was on the highway. Thankfully she was near an exit and was able to pull off safely. Had to pay almost $5,000 for pistons and gasket repairs after paying $12,000 for the car! A year later, the car was totaled while it was parked....we thought it was doing good. Oh well. Life! Looking for a 2012 Honda Accord V4 this time.
I regret selling my 8th gen V6 coupe. It was in Belize Blue Pearl and I swear these things are so hard to find in that particular configuration. I only sold it because I wasn't driving much due to the pandemic and it wouldn't pass a smog check due to the battery dying from sitting for too long with a parasitic draw (probably from my stereo)
Hey, I think you forgot to mention gas mileage and what type of gas? Sal good cause you helped me discover the question myself. Thank you for putting this together. I am looking to invest in my first car and i am trying to figure out which automobile is fairly modern, reliable, stylish and gets good gas mileage.
I love this car, but I’m religious about oil changes etc… and I kept having these problems, even after Honda did the piston rings and actuator at 70,000 miles. At 90,000 the start noise was back, and it started burning oil again. Kind of a bummer for a Honda engine, as I’ve never had problems with my 4 previous models
Feb 25th, 300k kms, needs winshield, threw on rear pads rotors and calipers, needs sway link and a code for radio... 2800. Palm size rust spot on ps/ds rear quarters, everything is solid!!!
hi bro i just bought this car and i have one issue with it maybe you can give me advice. I also have a 2.4 automatic transmission. When I come to a stop in "D" mode at a traffic light and keep my foot on the brake pedal, the engine RPM drops to 600 rpm/min, and the hood, side mirrors, and steering wheel start shaking. When I turn on the air conditioner or headlights, the engine RPM increases to 750, and the vibrations are almost gone. I have visited many different mechanics, and they have replaced the entire suspension, steering system, shock absorbers, and engine mounts, but it didn't help. Perhaps you know what the problem could be? I haven't changed the spark plugs, and sometimes the engine makes a strange sound while driving, like "tak-tak-tak," but the sounds disappear when I increase the speed.
Hey! Well, I can say it’s certainly not a suspension thing. You got screwed over by your mechanics first of all. It sounds more like a MAF sensor or throttle body issue. But before you go replacing those, check the hoses and lines and make sure everything’s connected, since it could be a vacuum leak. It’s also very easy to check/change spark plugs on those engines, so it’s worth a shot to replace those, since they’re cheap. How many miles on it? And have you been good about changing your oil on time?
And when I say issues with your throttle body, I mean it could be your IAC (idle air control) valve. I’m not sure if they’re on the throttle bodies on these, I can’t remember. But a clogged one of those will cause issues at idle
@@NotSoHandyCarGuy thanks for responding me, i bought the car around 5 months ago, yes i replaced oils filters too, the walkway now is around 190 000 miles
@@NotSoHandyCarGuy and also it has weird sound for the first 3sec when i start the engine everytime like in this video on min 8:10 is it possible that this shaking occurs because of vtc actuator? Im living in Saudi Arabia and many of workshops here is so bad they don’t know how to fix tge problem
2010 accord coupe, 465,000kms. 2 wheel bearings, both rear calipers have been the only unusual repairs, but with the mileage, they probably just wore out.
Haha, I’ve heard of people never changing it and they were totally fine too! And then other times, the actuator seized up as the veins broke inside and their engine jumped timing. Glad your’s was ok!
Same here I still have my 2010 4cylinder my vtc actuator has been bad for years and I always tell myself I’ll fix it but have yet to get to it, although a tip for the cold start if you turn on the electronics but not start the car and wait a minute then crank it you don’t get the rattle apparently that works because with the electronics being on gets the oil pump running which can prime the vtc actuator so I’d like to think that’s why it’s been less of an issue for me
@l_shane_l that's good to know lol, I lost my 08 accord in a car accident so now I have a 2012 crosstour(same 4cyl engine ofc) that makes the same noise at start up lmao

Nice dude! Thanks for the testimony. Definitely a solid car, for anyone who respects it and takes care of it.
@@NotSoHandyCarGuy always, I’m glad one made it out for a review and still left good thoughts on itself with 200k. I’m going to run mine into the ground (respectfully)

Wow! Update?
@@skywayradio787update did you buy it? how’s it running so far?
I have 56k miles on mines an I love it
This is one of the best car reviews I have ever watched. I was shocked to see that you have under 10k subs, don’t stop making videos!
The only thing i noticed that you missed, was the fact that the V6 6mt did not have VCM issues, as it didnt have variable cylinder management. As a result, its a much more reliable option than the auto. Otherwise, great video!
You have any experience with VCM delete?
Yeah, the manual was the way to go,no vcm and more fun than the automatic.
Engine light on could just be a faulty gas cap. Mine had this problem.
I just got one of these, with 180k+ miles, k24 coupe with an auto, can’t wait to start driving it
how’s your experience been?
I also have the exact car 250k miles and its still holding up (only had to replace headers)
@@anthonybanderaz6201nice, I’m looking at an 09, it has 190k though so I’m skeptical. Car fax has oil changed on it but that’s it.

Appreciate you for making this information loaded video. I have 2012 accord LX and I love them.
This is such a lie 😂
You are not on original timing belt
@@jayybizz_ 2.4 has a timing chain. The sprockets can be clearly seen in the video. Honda designs their timing chains to last the lifetime of the engine. With regular maintenance you should never need to have it replaced.

That’s always the case with repairs haha, they take about 2x the time that we originally estimate. Thank you and good luck with yours!
Love how to shouted out to ChrisFixx! I also thought your video was hilarious!!

Issues: repaired under warranty/extended warranty -- front passenger backrest beam replaced, VTC actuator replaced (some minor grind occasionally), noisy blower motor fan replaced (still noisy)
A/C clutch gave and aftermarket installed.
What I don't like: power steering motor whine, which wasn't fixed by replacing the two o-rings and seems to be related to hose diameter. I'm not going to bother. Might just break more things like the bolt haha.
Fuel economy is decent but of course compared to newer vehicles, isn't as great, especially in city driving.
really really good and informative review man, excellently done!!

You can also get a resistor from some online places that when placed inline on one of the cables, eliminates the eco mode. I did that, and all of my issues went away. No catalytic issues, no #1 spark plug fouling. 100% would recommend for all Honda engines with eco mode.

I've had to do the alternator and driver side wheel bearing. Timing belt coming up soon.
hi bro i just bought this car and i have one issue with it maybe you can give me advice.

That’s a very clean coupe
2010 accord coupe, 465,000kms. 2 wheel bearings, both rear calipers have been the only unusual repairs, but with the mileage, they probably just wore out.
Owned an 08 accord exl for 6yrs and I just lived with that noise at start up lol
Haha, I’ve heard of people never changing it and they were totally fine too! And then other times, the actuator seized up as the veins broke inside and their engine jumped timing. Glad your’s was ok!
Same here I still have my 2010 4cylinder my vtc actuator has been bad for years and I always tell myself I’ll fix it but have yet to get to it, although a tip for the cold start if you turn on the electronics but not start the car and wait a minute then crank it you don’t get the rattle apparently that works because with the electronics being on gets the oil pump running which can prime the vtc actuator so I’d like to think that’s why it’s been less of an issue for me
@l_shane_l that's good to know lol, I lost my 08 accord in a car accident so now I have a 2012 crosstour(same 4cyl engine ofc) that makes the same noise at start up lmao
same here. have an '08 right now sitting at 215k miles, it rattles after not being started up for a little bit, nothing has happened so I just live with it

FYI , add a half a quart of marvel mystery oil with every oil change . It will clean the inside of the engine and make the vtec last longer

Only with the V6 engine it has excessive oil consumption?
