One of the biggest problems for me and my ZV-E10 is the undefeatable bass roll-off for the mic input. Essentially, everything below 80hz is rolled off. It also cannot be used as a line-level audio input. There should be an option to enable/disable the roll-off and a way to toggle the mic input from being an amplified microphone input and a line-level input. Nobody seems to mention this in all the reviews I've seen on RUclips. These issues make using the camera for recording live bands, either from a soundboard or mixer or full bandwidth external microphone, useless. You will need an external audio recorder and sync the audio in post.
I use my ZV-E10 with the dji Ronin S3 and it’s just a perfect match especially when I throw in the Sigma 16mm F1.4 . It’s a beauty. No need for counter balancing .
Very informative video, thanks! I just purchased a zv-e10 and must admit that I don't know much about lenses(yet). I was wondering if you have any advice on what lens I could use for overhead video.
I bought this camera on the Black Friday deal from Amazon and I absolutely love it. I love almost everything about it and it takes great pictures in low light, about 10 times more light when I took pictures in my room at night. The onlu problem I don't like is that if you shake it a little bit the image looks almost like time-lapse. I believe this is because it's made for taking videos. You have to keep your hands very still and take multiple pictures until you get a stil one, especially in low light. Apart from that I love the aperture and the selfies it takes. Mine comes with lense from Amazon as part of the deal and I believe they are really good. I thought my phone takes good pictures and it really does for a phone, but this camera just takes it to the next level and I love it more and more every day.
Oooh loved the cold shoe windmuff. To add another tip. If you don't have a gimbal at the moment and you're not in a bad low light situation. Turn it into HD. 100 fps with a shutter of 1/200 and the footage will be much more stable and doesn't has such a bad rolling shutter. Still not good, but workable with.
Will this Canon lens adapter work with all Sony e-mount cameras? I have an older a3000, and for some reason the manufacturer only lists the adapter with a few Sony cameras. I'm guessing that it will work with all Sony APS-C emount cameras, but I thought I'd check. Thank you for your very interesting videos.
I have two things I'm trying to fix, maybe you can help: First, I'm actually using mine for streaming, and one of the 3 cams I have keeps shutting down. I think it's due to overheating, I have all the recommended settings set, but I have to put it on a shelf which may have something to do with it. Are there any accessories that will increase cooling? Second, every time I shoot, when I turn the cameras on, the zoom has to be reset. Is there a lens that has a manual zoom that would work with the ZV-e10 that will retain its' zoom? That is to say, lens that ignores the zoom control in the camera? Or is there an affordable lens that I could add that's equivalent to the kit lens, but that can have the zoom level stay after the camera is shut off and restarted? Or maybe some other solution? Right now, I'm using the mm reading on the camera which just about works, but it's fiddly because the display and control are hard to use to get to an exact zoom position, and it takes a few tries each time. Thanks!
Followed the Gimbal link in the description and found out that the Zhiyun Crane M2S Gimbal weighs only 549 grams. That is perfect for an already super light weight camera which along with the Tamron 11-20 mm F 2.8 lens weighs only 700 gms. The question here is how well the Gimbal performs and how good is the stabilisation. Can you please make a detailed video on that? Thanks a ton!
I use my sony zv-e10 while charging, and I don't have any issues. It may be an update that happened later than the time you did the review. And with a camera cooler, i record like 2 hours of podcast without any problem.
Funny you mention that! I found it horrible when I first got the camera, I have since learned to work with it and move the camera in a way that makes it a non-issue. In fact, I had totally forgot about it, but should have covered that in the video! Maybe I will make a video just about that issue and how to work around it.
Yes, it’s amazing, and must be right on the limit. I use mine with lens hood, lens filter and cage removed, with the small rig wind muff cold shoe on, and it balances.
does 7artisans EF-SE works well with all Canon EF Lens ? or did you find any issue on some ? is there a compatibility list ? there are different adapters and I'm not sure that this is the best
lmao I didn't realize my cage had a swiss plate built in! I was using another swiss plate on the bottom of the cage, how embarrassing. Thanks for the info!
Great video, thanks a lot for sharing it, it's really helping me. I have a question: as far as you know does the adaptor Sony XLRK3M.SYU fit with the ZV-E10? I can't find any really helpful info on the internet. Thanks again.
I just picked up the ZV-E10 and one of the first things I've noticed is the noise the kit lens makes when zooming. Internal mic picks it up and it's almost impossible to hear past. Would one of the mics mentioned help with this??
I must admit, I never zoom while shooing video, so I don't know for sure, but it would at least reduce it significantly. The internal mics are getting the direct vibration of the lens.
I thought I'm the only one! I nearly thought my lens has some dirt or broke but glad to know someone has noticed this issue as well. Were you able to find a solution for it? Did the mics help, if you got around to trying them? Thank you and I hope you have a great day!
Use a large step up ring and a large vnd. I got one for a meike 35mm stepped up from 77mm to 90mm to fit a matte box. Now I just use step up rings for all my lenses so I only need one set of filters. The larger filter reduces vignette.
The screen is not that bright, making it difficult to take pictures midday on a sunny day. Besides that the E10 is fantastic. Originally I bought it for indoor video studio work (9 months ago). The 13mm is stunning. The sigma contemporary full frame series have a wonderful aperture ring, and makes up for the E10’s missing tactile feel.
Yes, thank you. I did that when I first got the camera. The E10 is by far the best camera I’ve used so far, the images are incredibly sharp. And half the price of similar cameras with EV.
Cheapest mirrorlesd camera with HDR bt 2020 .Is this correct ? Any other company has same or minimal better ? A7iii is older but have way more better low light
Photos looks almost identical, I prefer the M50 for the EVF and ergonomics for photography, I think the ZV-E10 is better for video, but they are both good cameras.
M50 for the ergonomics and ease of use (especially if you're an absolute beginner). ZV-e10 for the incredible choice of affordable high-quality lenses: e.g. the sigma 18-50 f2.8 doesnt exist for ef-m and could be your only lens with this camera. And the sensor has a much better dynamic range (a6400 sensor) than the M50. So, if you prioritise Image Quality and future proofing ZV-e10 all the way! Overall and long term the ZV and E-mount system will cost you a lot less than getting into ef-m in 2022. (You have only mentioned photos, but the ZV is also a much much much better video camera, so down the line if you start to record little videos, play with slow mo... , you'll be happy you don't have to upgrade)

Video review was excellent - Bought and received the camera today with the Smallrig accessories that you mentioned. A lot of thought clearly went into the design of that Cage. Any recommendations regarding flash media to use?
I know, and at such a reasonable price. For SD cards, anything labeled as V30 compatible will do, Sandisk or Samsung are both good. Don’t go for any of the super fast, more expensive cards, the camera doesn’t take advantage of them so it makes no difference.
Pro tip for beginner & cheapskate like me to avoid rolling shutter and stabalize footage learn how to use Catalysts Browse it'd free. Buy cages, which will not only add attachment points but also remove micro gitters with an extra layer of protection and weight to the body.
I sometimes use the ZV-E10 to take pictures, but the lack of the function “ AEL lock on half-shutter-press” is really pissing me off, what can be done about it? I really want to focus-lock and recompose my shots, rather than letting AI decide what to focus on.
Sony needs to add an line level option for their microphone port that will allow us to totally bypass the cheap microphone pre-amp. This will allow us to bake in great audio from an external source.
I have this camera and got the AI gimble from Hohem, the isteady MT2. With the screen flipped out in selfie mode the gimble freaked out as it was off balance and couldn't right itself. I might only use my 5100 in selfie mode from now on on this gimble.
It’s minute 12:37 for me 😂. I promise not “scrutch” or scratch any of my lenses Mark😂. I’m not a Sony owner yet but, I watch all your stuff. That’s an Easter egg 😊
@01:28 mate, I know what you want to say, but that is so easily misinterpreted. Can't you just use a usb-c powerbank to charge this camera while it is in use? No need to be stationary with that.
Three stops (f/4 to f/1.4) is not 300% more light, it's 2^3 = 8 times more light or a increase of 700%. From f/3.5 to f/1.4 it's 2 and 2/3 stops, 6.25 times more light or a increase of 525%
Yes, it's bad in most of the Sony's. Did you get your channel hacked a little while back? I think the channel name had changed and there was some streaming news type thing on there? or were you just experimenting?
One thing that no one mentions about this camera is how noisy the zoom is 😯 Its horrendous, Also I was not very impressed with the video quality either. I know I was using the kit lens but MANY reviews said it was a decent lens. I have a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 that runs rings around this and even my DJI action camera has way better image quality. This is going back for a refund
Wrong observation - you can use the camera while simultaneously charging the battery via type c, i wonder if you are even right about the others points you covered
Yes, if you shoot all your videos or photos while plugged into a wall outlet, or using a power bank. The point was, to use the camera, like any normal person would use the camera, you can’t charge your battery and use the camera at the same time. This is why having a charger and spare battery is a much better solution.
Yah this way really the point I was making. That’s a pretty odd and awkward solution, compared to just having a battery charger, like most other cameras. This is only practical if you are building out a cinema rig, but not for normal use.
The screens are fragile it's the number one repair item for most cameras. I have been saved numerous times by them, I'm not sure why you would think this is a marketing scam?
Yes, what I was referring to was walking around using the camera. Which you would not be doing with the included charger, while plugged into the wall, I tried to clarify that in my statement, but it my not have been clear. With a charge you can charge the batteries separately, and a still walk around with the camera.
Thanks for the awesome video! Now if we only had a small rig EVF It's the only reason I still haven't bought this camera because apart from that, everything else I can live with. I've gotten too used to seeing the resolution of my phone screen that I feel like I'll constantly be winging in my head when I'm trying to setup a composition under broad sunlight. Trying to find what's the best alternative equivalent to the ZV E10 range that has an EVF. Doesn't matter if it isn't a Sony. If you had any recommendations would super appreciate it :)
The only real problem I have with mine is the lack of in-body stabilization (yeah wont bother with the digital crap). Its really hard to get smooth footage even with a gimbal cause all the micro jitters still show really easily
One of the biggest problems for me and my ZV-E10 is the undefeatable bass roll-off for the mic input. Essentially, everything below 80hz is rolled off. It also cannot be used as a line-level audio input. Good info, I will have to look into that.
Send this to sony so the next update will include all this mate 👍🏽😉
No one who is recording live bands should be using any mic input for audio lol.
wait, the roll off applies to the mic in too?!
How do you know about the 80 HZ low cut?
Hey man would you recommend getting the Fujifilm XM-5 over this?
Thanks
Thank you.

You won't find a better camera at that price! Plus it already competes with cameras that are 1k+ more expensive...

Very handy points..! The only features important to me that are difficult/impossible to fix are no viewfinder and no weather sealing. Thank you..!
8 bit 4:2:0 color sampling ia enough for color grading vs fuji xs-10 ?
Only very modest grading. If you want to shoot log, and and really push it around, you need 10 bit.
Can u suggest a budget lens for my sony zv e10 for sports vediography
go for a prime lens 50mm 1.8
Is there a hot shoe adapter for a light and mic attachment? 18:30
You said you cant use the camera when charging? It can be powered thru usb right
Yes, what I mean was in the way that you would normally use the camera. (ie walking around taking photos or videos).

Hi. You mentioned that you can't use the camera while the camera is charging. Will the dummy battery be useless then?

I know, and at such a reasonable price. For SD cards, anything labeled as V30 compatible will do, Sandisk or Samsung are both good. Don’t go for any of the super fast, more expensive cards, the camera doesn’t take advantage of them so it makes no difference.
As usual, great video! But, just curious, how far are you from the camera for shooting this vídeo with the Viltrox 13mm? Greetings from Italy 😊
very close, less than an arms reach.
Such a valuable video and Im excited to be getting this camera
Would you buy this camera or the Canon M50?
The Sony. Canon is no longer showing support for the M50.
@@markwiemels what about the R50?
I am considering this camera vs 6400 , my main concern is body is not weatherproof. Pity the cage didn’t offer weatherproofing 😊
Thanks a lot for this video. The bitrox 13mm f1.4 lens is a bit costly for start up like me.
Kit lens is a good start.
I have Zhongyi turbo lens 2 and unfortunately it does not fit it, its a shame I have to buy a new alternative
😮so sorry can you list down the 10 item to fix the issue on the Sony ZV-E10 , thanks ??
I need to invest in a filter 100%!
Can you do a vid on the Nikon Z30? As it's the direct competitor for the ZV-E10 ( and R10 highly possibly)
Pro tip for beginner & cheapskate like me to avoid rolling shutter and stabalize footage learn how to use Catalysts Browse it'd free. Buy cages, which will not only add attachment points but also remove micro gitters with an extra layer of protection and weight to the body.
You failed english class huh
@@RyansReaper I guess you can day that
🤣🤣
I sometimes use the ZV-E10 to take pictures, but the lack of the function “ AEL lock on half-shutter-press” is really pissing me off, what can be done about it? I really want to focus-lock and recompose my shots, rather than letting AI decide what to focus on.
Once the mark ii comes out. I’ll be getting this compact camera and use it as my EDC. I’m a Canon Shooter so it will be my first Sony camera.
Not sure if it charges but you definitely can use a battery bank and using the camera at the same time in my opinion it’s better
yah, I use my ZV-1 plugged and shoot videos. would think it would be the same here. maybe not.
Just got this camera and love your videos !
Great to hear!
zve10 good for short flim????
Yes
This is one amazing cam for beginners
Sony needs to add an line level option for their microphone port that will allow us to totally bypass the cheap microphone pre-amp. This will allow us to bake in great audio from an external source.
Fantastic review. Super helpful.
For the battery, I just carry a powerbank with me ;)
love my zv-e10 with sigma 30mm f1.4 its too good for starters and amateurs like me.
Yes, that's a super setup!
I have this camera and got the AI gimble from Hohem, the isteady MT2. With the screen flipped out in selfie mode the gimble freaked out as it was off balance and couldn't right itself. I might only use my 5100 in selfie mode from now on on this gimble.
Now, I’m ready to buy it😊thanks and already subscribed
You will love it.
It’s minute 12:37 for me 😂. I promise not “scrutch” or scratch any of my lenses Mark😂. I’m not a Sony owner yet but, I watch all your stuff. That’s an Easter egg 😊
haha. Thanks! I don't even notice these things when I shooting, or editing!
This a nicely made video indeed.. found it brief and very useful and practical!.. Tks Mark, look forward to more videos on hobby photography topics
Thanks for the nice comment.
So far.. the only thing i have had issue with.. is the lacking of an EVF
what about the a6100 ?
What about it?
@@markwiemels is it good?
I love this guy
Thanks so much! That’s two now, you and my mother. ;-)
Im planning to get this but most likely will not shoot in 4k anytime soon. Do you have any recommendations on par to this with good 1080p? Thanks!
Sorry, I have not done any real research on the quality of 1080, but I would look at the Fuji X-S10 or Canon EOS RP.
Maybe you can’t change the battery and use the camera but you can use an external power bank to power and use it
Yes! That is a great feature.
@01:28 mate, I know what you want to say, but that is so easily misinterpreted.
Can't you just use a usb-c powerbank to charge this camera while it is in use? No need to be stationary with that.
🤣 once you find something that helps you achieve what you need, stop buying the latest cameras…🤦🏽♂️
Okay, so we start with something unreal that never ever happens 🎉
You forgot to mention the annoying rotation of the screen display when you rotate it to face you in front.
battry tips : turn on airplane mode
Three stops (f/4 to f/1.4) is not 300% more light, it's 2^3 = 8 times more light or a increase of 700%. From f/3.5 to f/1.4 it's 2 and 2/3 stops, 6.25 times more light or a increase of 525%
For me, the biggest disappointment was the 1080p quality.
Yes, it's bad in most of the Sony's. Did you get your channel hacked a little while back? I think the channel name had changed and there was some streaming news type thing on there? or were you just experimenting?
I was hacked, Mark. Then I managed to hack the hackers and stole it back!
Agree that the 1080p is awful 😢
In a6000 it’s beautiful
@@Sorennn94 ya, but why the old camera still better in 1080p when another where at zve10... ? Why
Great video, all meat
One thing that no one mentions about this camera is how noisy the zoom is 😯 Its horrendous, Also I was not very impressed with the video quality either. I know I was using the kit lens but MANY reviews said it was a decent lens. I have a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 that runs rings around this and even my DJI action camera has way better image quality. This is going back for a refund
Skill issue
@red3x Camera issue. Been using cameras professionally for many years
Wrong observation - you can use the camera while simultaneously charging the battery via type c, i wonder if you are even right about the others points you covered
Yes, if you shoot all your videos or photos while plugged into a wall outlet, or using a power bank. The point was, to use the camera, like any normal person would use the camera, you can’t charge your battery and use the camera at the same time. This is why having a charger and spare battery is a much better solution.
@@markwiemels you can get a small powerbank holding mount and can use all that money for buying extra batteries...
Yah this way really the point I was making. That’s a pretty odd and awkward solution, compared to just having a battery charger, like most other cameras. This is only practical if you are building out a cinema rig, but not for normal use.
May be time for me to get a new camera....maybe the zv-e10. I am such a camera noob
It’s hard to beat for the money. Same sensor and image quality as some of Sony’s cameras that cost more than double the price.
@@markwiemels And the rolling shutter wont matter cause my stuffs talking head videos...hmmmm. Another great video Mark!
What is your opinion about its rolling shutter ? I heard fast panning footage is very bad
Nice marketing scam 3 screen protectors link in description 😂
The screens are fragile it's the number one repair item for most cameras. I have been saved numerous times by them, I'm not sure why you would think this is a marketing scam?
I have 2 small rig chargers and about 10 batteries. I have no batterie problems at all :-)
Yep, me too. Maybe not 10 batteries, but at least 6.
A battery charger and extra batteries are cheap on Amazon.
Don't let Zach Galifianakis get you drunk
Dios le bendiga por esta información
The audio on this thing is limited to 16 bit which is on level up from ghetto in the world of audio.
You were wrong. You can use the camera and charge the camera in the same time. Did you even tried it?
Yes, what I was referring to was walking around using the camera. Which you would not be doing with the included charger, while plugged into the wall, I tried to clarify that in my statement, but it my not have been clear. With a charge you can charge the batteries separately, and a still walk around with the camera.
hey i am planning to buy this camera, can you please explain more about charging the camera while being in use?
@@markwiemels you can use the camera while is recording and still charge it via USB, wall plug or battery charger for phone
Thanks for the awesome video!
Now if we only had a small rig EVF
It's the only reason I still haven't bought this camera because apart from that, everything else I can live with.
