    I think I'd like their products much more if the brand name didn't sound like a 13-year old's gamer tag on Call of Duty. They seem pretty well made and also quite beautiful

    Thanks for all your research, testing, and expensive acquisitions. These gizmos are the very reason I gave up my top end home espresso system a decade ago. It was just about the time that mechanical preset tampers were coming onto the market that I realized my God Shots might forever remain elusive unless I had ALL THE TOYS. I took a deep look into my espresso obsessed soul, sold my Salvatore E61 HX and Rancilio Rocky to a friend in the catering biz and I have never looked back.

    Remarkably refreshing to see criticism of something that’s been received for free.

    • @coffeenerdaaron
      @coffeenerdaaron  Год назад +1

      I always super appreciate the things companies send me for free but I’d rather them not like what I have to say about it vs telling people to go buy something I don’t think is good. Now the caveat here would be these are all nice products I just think they’re are better ones for the money like I said. That’s not to say most people wouldn’t be very happy with these, I just want people to be aware of the options out there.

      That’s exactly why I used the word criticism.
      That can very much mean constructive, but it seldom does.
      I’ve seen this brand go from sticking their name in products to making what at least look like original designs. Hopefully this serves as feedback to improve things, just like Normcore have also improved products like their WDT tool over the years.

    I thought depth adjustable distributor was outdated. That’s why I picked up the gravity distributor. No need to crank the collar for depth adjustments which can potentially hurt your wrist.

    MHW-3BOMBER is a good brand with good products, but it is a bit overpriced imo. Also they certainly take great care of the aesthetics, and that is something to appreciate. Thanks for your honest review!

    Some insights about the tamper. Based on the data collected by Lance Hedrick, he saw a consistent increase in extraction with flat base tampers compared to rippled base tampers. Additionally, the spring loaded calibrated tampers such as the Force Tamper actually decreased extraction in his testing.

  • @claclah.

    Just got the tamper. Wish i had watched this before purchasing it. I agree with you about the pressure, much better if there is an option to adjust it. Still pretty much applying pressure when tamping using the mhw tamper so the experience is not really okay 😅

    • @feonacho
      @feonacho 7 месяцев назад

      you can under-tamp but never over-tamp, the depth adjustment or pressure adjustment are both meh. The good about them is their rings to have a always leveled tamp

    I got that tamper few months ago, when I received it from Amazon, could not move it. It was all stuck together. I had to hit it with a hammer few times for it to work being able to move it around wasn’t fun but now it does the job, does keep some coffee in between.

    They are beautiful. And as something you will use every day, that matters. And if they are well built, they should last forever, so the cost difference becomes (over time) less of an issue. I recently bought some Umeshiso rainbow demitasse spoons for about triple the cost of spoons I had before. Do the work better? Of course not. But they’re definitely prettier, and since they’ll last forever, the increased cost is amortized over decades and therefore becomes fairly insignificant.
    I do have one question: what is the diameter of the needles of the WDT tool? In millimetres, if possible.

    • @coffeenerdaaron

    Wet wdt has caused my brews to go much longer. Which, for me causes a bit of over extraction. I do typically grind pretty fine for filter so that might have something to do with it.

    • @coffeenerdaaron

    • @coffeenerdaaron
      @coffeenerdaaron  Год назад +1

      @@joshk528 yeah that could be. I typically use the Orea V3 as my daily brewer and either the Ode G2 or EK43 grinder which both have pretty decent particle distribution. I also grind pretty fine since the Orea flows so fast but I haven’t noticed stalling or slow brew times as a result of WWDT.

    Great vid. Just a question on the DEX baskets. Do you really need the 18g and 20g basket? Or you can just have the 20g basket and dose 18-20g in it. Is it really restricted to dose exactly 20g always?

    • @coffeenerdaaron
      @coffeenerdaaron  Год назад +2

      You can just get one but if you frequently change dose sizes it might be best to have options, especially with how cheap they are. Also if you opted for the larger basket but dose a lower amount you’ll have more head space on top of the coffee puck and that can negatively impact you shot. If you commonly dose 17-19gm I’d get the 18gm basket. If you’re always dosing 19gm or more I’d go with the 20gm basket.
