Thank you for your excellent review. I'll be addressing the questions to help everyone out. Regarding your preference for a flat-bottom tamper, our threaded base design was developed with the general consumer in mind. However, I will certainly pass your feedback on to our R&D team. Here’s a breakdown of the differences between the two designs, which I hope will be helpful: - Flat Bottom: Enhances concentration and increases balance. - Threaded: Promotes concentric extraction, optimizes selection, and enhances coffee flavor extraction. BTW, the tamper discount can be combined with our new product discounts. Go check it out and see how much you can save-I promise you'll be pleasantly surprised, lol! 🥳🥳
Threaded/ripple response: "promotes concentric extraction, optimizes selection, and enhances coffee flavor extraction" COME ON...LOLOLOL....Maybe some people are stupid and fall for this..Maybe even most...But you are delusional if you think its true!!!!! Here is more. "Flat bottom; enhances concentration and increases balance". Your scientific "theories" are almost as bad as some others. I am sure you have run the numbers on your .0000 precision meters and measures and you see a .0001 difference, and there is your data science BS. Dont get me wrong guys, We love some of the products. Just relax on your ideas of why things are the way they are. The ripple is a PROBLEM just as Jack mentioned. I hate it, as I get grinds stuck to it, and makes a mess, and cant wait to get rid of mine. I have seen some that screw off and you can swap to a flat. If done right, this would be a solid option.
Cheers Jack! Your content brightens my day (or night). Hopefully the rest of this product line follows the lead of this new tamper and is more modest on the branding! Keep up the good work and thanks for the review!
Another great review. I personally like the look of the tamper and think I will definitely be adding this to my work flow soon. Thanks for all your hard work.
i have the predecessor of this tamper. it’s very precise around the edges for most baskets. my only concern is the absorbed impact to the coffee bed when the pressure is released. the only negative about the previous version (which seems to be addressed here) is the coffee grounds get stuck between the tamper and its leveler
I got the Blind Shaker from them… don’t like the extra step in my routine… The product itself is well made. But in my opinion the coffee grounds don’t fall perfectly into the portafilter like the Weber one seems to do.
@@rkytr.2765 I only had MHW shakers in the past and didn’t like the workflow but can’t say if Weber would be better. Some say it is, some say it isn’t.
@@QuickQuips I agree!!! A little bit of distance between the shaker and the portafilter (using a funnel) really helps distribute the puck. Personally, I then use a cyclone to redistribute the surface and my shots are now super-consistent. It might be overkill, but it's fun overkill. 😂
Sometimes, Chinese knockoffs can have some minor issues. They often manage to replicate about 80% of the product, but the finer details might be lacking, and they may not fully understand the reasons behind the design. I’ve bought three Chinese-made blind shakers, but unfortunately, none of them worked well for me. One had a hook in the middle axis that caused larger grinds to get stuck, another was supposed to be compatible with 51/54/58mm but had a hole that was too small, causing the grinds to pile up in the portafilter. The last one was almost an exact replica of the WW shaker and was more expensive, but all of them had retention issues. In the end, I got the original WW shaker, which has a coating to prevent retention problems, and I’ve been enjoying using it ever since
@@stevegee218 I have seen it on their website. It is a bit different. It only has 3 springs New tamper retracts after hitting tamping pressure while the previous one just clicks when you get to 30lbs.
It’s currently not available on Amazon in the USA. On the MHW-3Bomber website it shows as $58 USD, but only the 58.35mm is currently available. Thanks for sharing your experience with this new tool. It certainly looks intuitive and easy to use.
@@JMWexperience in the manual and in the info they sent to me they mentioned 3 different sizes but right now only 58.35 is available. On MHW they offer at $58 but you can use my discount code (in the description) for extra 12% off.

Really good magnetic funnel! Their magnetic WDT with needles spread regulation is also cool, and for a tamper, I got one with a wood handle and switchable 12 or 6 kilos springs I guess 😅 58mm 20gr dex basket is also not bad at all!
@@jecstrike well, it is not a copy of FT but I can see it as an alternative. According to MHW it is calibrated and very precise. I will at some point record a video comparing both.
@@mycoffeeshow111 thanks, appreciate the review. Their first version of their tamper does that click as well, so im thinking if theres really a difference. Or its just a new look for the yu series.
@@mycoffeeshow111 YEs, I think so, but the variable vs variable with only size difference DLC burrs will help understand IF any difference is in the cup with size and design. Then build quality. How precise are they made so after cleaning them you assemble and how close it is to the setting before if you can pull a shot and still holding position. Because the 64v can be found around 450-550, the 83v can be found 600-800. The price is not a huge difference. But the question ...Is it worth it? and why? Also, the 83 burr upgrade is so expensive, I would not do it. I rather just stick to 1 set of good burrs for espresso, as I dont like to mess around so much. But 64v if the taste is significantly better with SPP: MP, HU, LABSweet, etc then the price to upgrade over time is not bad. Or are these 2 sizes so different tasting that its hard to compare?
@@philindeblanc on average I find that bigger burrs open up the flavours more so I would recommend DF83v. Obviously I would love to try DF64v if I could.
@@mycoffeeshow111 thanks Jack! I too am leaning that way. But was trying to save some money. I am having trouble and for 6months almost, trying medium roasts just not tasting good. You know what? Most Chinese brands have stopped making flat base tampers because most casual users in China prefer the ripple or waffle pattern simply for its appearance. They don't know much about extraction and think these patterns are more 'special,' so they tend to buy them.
i have another constant pressure tamper with ripples. i find you can keep it clean if you give it a twist at the bottom of the tamp. can the same thing be done with this one?

It will be a hit if they introduce a flat version. I will never buy ripple tampers. It is not practical and does not have a positive effect on extraction (in fact, it is the opposite).
