How can anyone give this a 'thumbs down'?? Not only is she beautiful to watch, but she can actually sing AND her demo is great! i just received mine today, and this pedal has completely brought my own singing experience up to a whole new level. It's great! (Thanks for sharing, Clara :)
Hi Nic, Essentially, the better the unit can hear any type of chord, the more accurate it will be. When folks run guitar through it, we recommend going from the guitar to the unit and then on to your effects/amp, so the H Singer gets clean guitar chords. It would be the same situation with a Rhodes etc. You'd want to get as clean chords as you can into the box.
Hi Martin. The Harmony singer does require a guitar input. It's designed for a singing guitar player. Some of our other units allow you to set the key/scale manually if you don't play an instrument.
I've been wondering for weeks what would be a good harmonizing pedal to get. Clara opened up my eyes. Kudos to her for an excellent demonstration, I'm definitely sold. Oh, and it doesn't hurt that she's easy on the eyes, too.
Thanks. I've been trying this with my VLT and my VL2. I never thought of it for this purpose. Plus I SUCK at guitar (small hands). You got a product for that? LOL
Podrían explicar cuáles son las posibles opciones para conectar el pedal? Aquí se ve por ejemplo que no se utiliza una de las salidas del pedal, por favor, gracias.
sounds pretty good.W as this video recorded live? Do i absolutely need a PA system to set this up? I don't do live performances a lot. I mostly record songs into my computer; Will this be appropriate for recording as well? PS: i use audacity& a snowball usb microphone that i plug to my computer. But my self-made harmonies are not always correct, so i need something that will add great &perfect harmony to my singing. how do i set this up to record from the mic to the computer?
+JulieS Yep, this was recorded live. We never use overdubbed studio tracks in our videos. Typically, we do one or two cameras and direct audio out of the product so that we have a completely authentic "base" video to work with. Then, we may get the performer to lip sync to that just-recorded live performance so that we can capture some other shots like foot switch presses or cool angles that we couldn't do without 10 cameras ;) It's important to us that the "guts" of all of our videos are simply straight out of the product so that people know what it really sounds like. None of our products are capable of using the Snowball directly, so you'd need a more traditional mic. From there, you could record into an audio interface, capturing your lead and harmony vocals simultaneously. Or, you could turn the mix all the way up to only get the harmony voice on the output and record it to a separate track from your lead, so you can mix it later. Hope that helps a bit!
This, apparently, is an old video! Well, here goes anyway; it harmonizes in minor and major BUT, can it goes from minor to major in a run like Am G F E? In other words, your singing the run and land on the major (E)… will it work there?
I'm having a job understanding this as Clara demonstrated just singing (no guitar) and the unit responded to that with harmonic sounds and yet we are being told the unit needs a guitar plugged in.....am I missing something? The point is that I am looking for a choral pedal that produces harmonics to vocals whilst playing acoustic guitar. Is this possible? Many thanks.
Can this unit be used with a set of headphones? I don't see any mention of such. Instead of running through the amp, can you hook up a set of headphones and run this through them? I have a Boss VE2 vocal harmonist that allows for such, but my Harmony singer does not have a headphone input to it.
HI TC HELICON....IM SO WOORIED...I HAVE A HS I LOVE IT I REALLY LOVE IT...AFTER A SHOW IT STARTED TO MAKE NOISE...A GREAT NOISE ...I DID THE CALIBRATION AND NOW WHEN THE NOISE STOPS, THE EFFECTS GO SO HIGH (THE REVERB) I TRY DO RECALIBRATE BUT...DIDN´T RESOLVED...HELP ME PLEASE! I NEED IT...MAY I DID SOME THING WRONG? CLARA GREAT VOICE ....
+Luiz Ricardo Muniz Hmm, not sure what might be going on there. Your best bet is to open a support ticket and get the guys to walk you through some possible solutions. support.tc-helicon.com
Question. Does the "out" that goes to her PA system have both guitar and vocal signals going through it? I noticed that there is no cable in the guitar out input jack. Or do we just here the guitar through the camera? In other words: If I play live, can I give the soundguy 1 cable where all my out is going through?
No, the XLR is only vocals. In Harmony Singer, the instrument in/thru is intended to go out to guitar pedals/amp/multi-effect/mixer etc. Some of our other products, like VoiceLive 3, Touch 2, Play Acoustic, Play Electric have some manner of gutiar path to the main outs, be it simple like a T2 or more full featured like VL3.
When I mic my guitar thru the pedal and into a mixer I get lots of distortion when I step on the pedal for harmonies. Vocals come out fine, its the sound of the guitar going out that gets distorted. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong. Great pedal, I like it.
+OOO-15 The Harmony Singer is not at all intended to harmonize an instrument. It's only for a single voice. We can't process the multiple notes (polyphonic audio) that a guitar or any other chorded instrument produces.
Does the pedal pitch the harmony notes from the vocal or from the guitar..? In other words if your voice is slightly off key will the harmony be equally off key, or will it match the pitch of the guitar..??
Both and no. haha. How's that for vague? What we do is listen to the lead not that you're singing AND the guitar chord. That allows our algorithm to say "this chord from the guitar and this lead note from the mic tells me that you're in XYZ key and scale" from there, we can figure out what harmony notes are appropriate within that key and scale for "3rd up" or "4th below" etc. If your lead voice is slightly off key, the harmony voices will still be on key. They are pitch corrected against the key/scale and an A440Hz reference, not the specific tuning of the guitar or vocals. A lot of people actually find that their pitch improves when singing with the harmony voices because the harmonies provide a solid reference to adapt your lead to. That said, if you're like a whole semi tone off, it'll just sound weird, but we can't really fix that without key/scale based correction on the lead voice too, which some of our other products are able to do.
Hi Jeff, there is no way to set a manual key/scale on a Harmony Singer. It requires the instrument input. On products like VoiceLive Play, Play Acoustic/Electric, Touch 2, VoiceLive 3 they all offer manual setting of key/scale.
so it does work w/o the guitar right? cuz for what i've understand on some of TChelicon's vid it needs the guitar to follow too or no? im pretty confused here ~_~
Me too Martin. I keep asking the same question... why would I need to trigger the harmony with a guitar chord if, for example, I simply set the HS pedal to a third up harmony that ran throughout a song? I could literally sing the song unaccompanied. At the beginning of this video when Clara C talks sings unaccompanied, the pedal harmonises! As far as I can see, for a vocalist who always sings in tune with the backing instrumentation there's no requirement to have a guitar fed through it. I'm probably being really stupid... but the confusion is preventing me buying the pedal.
Anyone would recommend (by personal experience) a voice harmonizer that would be more realistic than this? (It seems realistic enough to me, it's just that so I could look for demos and reviews)
I want to get this or the G xt. What I need to know is do I need other equipment? Can I hook it straight to an Amp? I have the mic, and acoustic electric, and cords. From the harmony box, where does it go?
Aah, thats annoying, kind of a standard feature on most kit. Never mind, I was thinking of running one from my interface as an outboard effect so this isn't an issue. Cheers!
Im a keyboardist using the motif XS 8 and I am looking for a Vocal harmony like such for my keyboard. Would this work and hook up to my keyboard or can you recommend one from TC Helicon that would work accordingly. I borrowed a Vocalist live 2 from a friend to try with my piano but it did not seem to work nor recognize my chords properly. Any advice? Thanks Mike
+saxavera711 If you connect an audio out to the guitar input on Harmony Singer it'll pick up chord information from that. MIDI is more reliable in general since it's independent of the actual "sound" you're making on the keyboard. I'd suggest checking out a Touch2. It's good for being hands on during performance and can sit on or near your keys. www.tc-helicon.com/products/voicelive-touch-2/
Wonderful! before I buy, Can I also connect it to a mixer w/audio interface to a computer with a DAW like ProTools. I will be buying this week if I can so such. Thanks for your help. The Touch 2 looks and sounds amazing!!
How does it do with the chord (harmonic) info from a keyboard instrument? Say a Fender Rhodes into the Harmony Singer. What type of results can it produce?
We need to hear chords from the instrument that include at least a root and 3rd, preferably one more note too, so unless you're chording on bass a lot it won't work.
+Kevin Johnson The power cable is actually there. They've just cleverly hidden it. Here's a shot where you can see it sneaking along with the XLR cable. dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/40864719/Harmony%20Singer%20Clara%20Power.JPG
+whitedove Harmony Singer is designed to have an instrument guide key/scale for harmony, but an H1 can set the key/scale manually. You might also want to look at something like a VoiceLive Play or VoiceLive Touch 2 if you're after units that can store presets with various key/scales defined. The H1 is the least expensive and sounds good, but you'd have to bend down to change keys on the fly and that might not work super well in a performance unless it's part of your choreography ;) www.tc-helicon.com/products/voicetone-H1/ www.tc-helicon.com/products/voicelive-play/ www.tc-helicon.com/products/voicelive-touch-2/

TC-Helicon I managed to solve the problem. Turns out my mic is the cause of the noise. Funny thing is when my mic is directly connected to an amp or a mixer it doesn't produce any noise. It just happens when the mic is input to the pedal first. Anyways, thanks for the help!
We need chord information to figure out key and scale for harmonies. Unless you chord a lot on bass it won't be accurate. You're better to run your guitarist or keyboardist signal through it instead.

If I'm gonna nitpick, the harmonies do sound artificial, but I'm sure in a live solo setting it wouldn't matter too much. Also for recording purposes, I bet a good mix could disguise it pretty well too.

Does it have phantom power pass through for condenser mics?
It provides 24V Phantom from the pedal. It can't pass through phantom from the output to the input. We protect against that kind of reverse voltage.
