I recommend checking the specifications of the power supply to see if it is capable of passing 670mA to the pedal. See the user manual for the Harmony Singer 2. See section 3 ‘Power’ for the current draw. Also, as a double check, 6 Watts at 9V does calculate out to roughly 670 mA. Unfortunately, the bottom of the pedal is marked "300mA", but it certainly won't work even with a 500mA power supply.

Thanks mate! I appreciate that! The funny thing is … I use the harmoniser HEAPS more on a Sunday gig… after I’ve destroyed my voice on Friday and Saturday! Ha ha ha. It’s awesome to know someone else does that too!!!
So, there's one thing that nobody explains when they're doing a demo of this pedal and I'd like to understand. Let's take the simple example of harmonising a third above (I've got questions about a fifth below too). If I'm playing a C major chord and my vocal melody is on the C, I presume the pedal produces my voice on top singing an E and if I'm singing an E it might produce a G? But what if I'm singing a G? Does the pedal produce an E so that my actual voice is the harmony and the pedal has taken the lead to maintain the 3rd above harmony that we've set the pedal to? Otherwise, a third above a G is a major 7th in C and that might not be the colouration I'm aiming for. The pedal can't be blindly producing vocals that are a 3rd above what I'm singing. Surely it must be creating both the melody and the harmony at either a 3rd above and/or a 3rd below, depending on what I'm singing. Same question applies for a fifth below (or did you mean a 3rd below?). Can you clarify please?
Hi!!! Great questions!!! The harmoniser follows exactly what you play… if you set the harmony to be a third above, and you are playing in the key of C major, it will automatically put the E in for you as the harmony note, if you are playing in C minor it will automatically put in an E flat for you, if you play a major seven chord, it will put in the major seven note… if you’re playing a minor 7 chord , it will put in a minor 7 note. Sometimes you need to adjust the cords you are playing to get the desired harmony! Hope that helps!!

@@thepedalpicassos Thank you very much for the reply. Living here in Brazil is very difficult to buy the Boss VE500. It's not worth paying around $900 on it. As I do small events, I thought of something good and cheap. I really liked the option of TC Helicon Voicetone H1. Do you know it?
Honestly I used to bring a TC Helicon pedal to live gigs because I just love the sound of vocal overdubs.....At the end of the day, even soundmen who found the idea interesting always managed to make me sound better without the pedal.......It's kinda sound because the idea is pretty cool, but if we're being honest, the result isn't that great.....and there kinda are better options on the market.....then again, who am I to tell anyone what to think or buy
@@rafabern31 Well it depends on what it is you are trying to achieve and why. Do you play pretty big venues? Do you have the same soundman all the time? I know it's not the same effect, but have you tried a slapback delay and see how it works with your voice? Do you use the pedal because you really love the tone, or is it a way to make your voice sound "larger"? If it's for the second reason and you often find yourself playing relatively small/mid size gigs (Nothing wrong with that, I haven't played a gig in way too long and would give quite a lot to play a couple of gigs in front of any potentially interested audience.) I'd consider buying a compressor.....In fact, I think that, regardless the TC Helicon, having a compressor is a good idea as long as you there is the possibility that the venue you'll be playing it does not have one. It really depends on your situation and the kind of gigs you play and the reason why you want to use it. Oh and finally, it's going to sound obvious, but if it's about recording tracks in a studio, just record real overdubs. All of that being said, it's always a matter of personal preferences. Maybe you found a way to make it sound perfect for your voice or for the type of music that you do. Looking forward to reading your answer. Best of luck with you project!
As I understand it, the harmonies are in tune with the guitar, but what if your singing is a little bit off key, does it adjust your singing voice too? Like an auto tuner?
Great demo ! How about if I will only use this for vocal harmony effects WITHOUT any instruments. Only with backing tracks. Would it still be useful? I'm debating between the TC duplicator or TC harmony singer. Im a vocalist and I don't play any instrument.

Yup, you should do the update!! I was on stage Friday night and my new TC Helicon Harmony Singer 2 acted up, it gave this unbearable harmonic tone which was crazy loud and very hard on the ears thought it was gonna damage my ears. I got my son in law to do the update yesterday and I put the pedal through a good work out (approximately 3 hours) and it didn't have anymore problems, "so far"
I enjoyed your demo of this pedal. Do you know if it works independently of the guitar? I'm a vocalist and there are times when I need a harmony without an instrument plugged in. Do you know of a harmony pedal that works in this way?
It's a great pedal, but I wish it had a delay effect knob on it too. Delay should ideally come before reverb, so using the pedal's reverb and then the delay on a PA is kind of backwards, although you can get away with it.

@@cameronmckay8454 Hmmm thanks for the insight. Be interesting to see others'responses to this... I've only been recommended the V2. I did a gig last week and someone was using the old bose V1 & it worked great just no harmony option. Any suggestions welcome
Thanx for the review Pedal Picasso🤝🙏. Please tell me, do u have to play the guitar to operate the TC harmony device? Can't the Harmony works by itself without aging the guitar?
I get it. But do u have to play the guitar, keyboard or whatever instrument at the same time to activate the vocal sounds or as long as it's connected to one of those. Sorry for the question champ I really like to know the accuracy of what to do coz I don't have a background knowledge of these kinda issues. So greatly appreciate ur feedback sir🙏💯🙌
And using, for example, only the third option, without connecting any instruments, can it reproduce well? It seems that even without connecting he is able to do the second voice well if it is a simple option. I have a band where I have the lead singer and I opening a vocal harmony, but we would like another third voice. If the Tc Harmony Singer 2 is capable of playing at least 1 single voice without an instrument, it would be ideal for me, because I play drums too and do the backing. Thanks
@@NickfromHighTide Hi, after a lot of research I saw that the best option for my case (and my pocket) was the Harmonist VE-2 from Boss. I only use 1 voice (besides my own) and it sounds natural, it's not artificial, I also don't make the volume louder than the voice I'm doing. I'm a drummer and I'm the only one doing backing vocals in my band. There are parts in our show that even the keyboards or guitars stop playing, and that's why playing with the pedal plugged in these instruments to work in the right tones wouldn't help me because the pedal would lose reference. So I use the manual option where I change the tones myself and which voice opening I'm going to use... a 5th or 3rd above or below generally, for each song in the repertoire. It's a bit complicated because as a drummer I need to do it very quickly so that we don't have too much delay between one song and another, you need to be willing to do this work. In my repertoire I have written down all the tones and voicings that I will harmonize, when there are amended songs it is more complicated to organize in some cases I choose the most important song to have a backing vocal and give up another one, because sometimes it is difficult to change the tone while I'm playing, in some cases when the drums are quieter I can even do it. If you can't use a pedal-plugged instrument either, play an instrument and do backing vocals and you'll have a well-rehearsed show where things are well-organized with the band and you can have a good time for pre-show soundchecks, this Harmonist VE-2 pedal can do just that. But if you don't want too much in your head and play more freely or if your band likes to change things in the show very often then I think you won't like it or at least it will be one more thing to complicate your life lol Hope this helps.
It only works if you play chords… it needs to hear the root note and the 3rd note of the chord so it knows if it’s a major or minor. If you’re playing single notes on a bass… it won’t have enough information to generate the correct harmony! If you are the bass player and the singer in a band, you can just run a line from your guitar player or keyboard player into it so it has a musical reference! Hope that helps!!
Hello, I'm discovering your channel from France. Is it possible to memorize several voice effects with this pedal? That is to say, voice alone, voice with third, voice with fifth, or do you have to adjust each time?
I am looking for a pedal that allows me to: * pick a harmony note setting that is dialable chromatically anywhere on the scale one octave up or down. More than one harmony note setting to create a chord based off of my vocalized note would be an added plus. I want full control over the harmony interval note selection even if my choices are not traditionally considered to be in harmony. * this unit would NOT depend on background chords on a guitar or whatever to auto harmonize. I want to sing a note and pick the interval I want, not have some microchip decide that for me.
Hi mate! I got it custom made at a place called “American Loopers” From memory it was actually pretty cheap, and I think They’ve made it available on their website now!
Very handy review this. I have been using the Harmony G XT on my main board for years - which I lve by the way - and this looks like a simplified/stripped down version of the same. Do you know how many milliamps of current these draw? My Harmmony G XT, though a 12V unit, needs at least 300 ma, and I am guessing this could also be a bit power hungry. The CIOKS 8 runs it fine but it needs mains power, and I need need to be AC power free for my small board. The manual does not specify power needs, it does say the power supply delivers 600ma but that does not mean anything.
The manual indicates the current draw as 670mA, which is pretty high.
This one needs a guitar or a keyboard or a backing track to use as a reference to generate the correct harmonies! The Boss VE-500 can be set to specific keys with no audio reference! Hope that helps!

So how does this work if you're not a guitarist; given that it follows the chords? I'm a bass player and lead vocalist, and this could be really useful, but I'm unsure how it works without guitar chords?

i wondered would you reccommend it over the tc helicin gtx if so why? 2 ....or the Boss VE .... I like the sound of the one you demo here and simplicity of changing harmonies on the fly they sound great as do you and great review man. I dont know if its just a case of someone using something different n might buy one .... I use the boss ve as it is battery powered or plugin and you can just cut it off n speak with a stomp and it has a vocal enhancher magic button thingy that (i dont need) but it actually does work to make the harder (higher) songs easier on the voice somehow>>? -) 2 questions ....is your thing battery powered as well as dc and 2...sometimes i use achostic guitar n backing and sometimes I just use backing trax from my desk and so wondered if i took a line from the desk (monitor out) would it follow along with the key for harmonies like it does when I plug in guitar .... in theory this should work? Never actually tested it out .
Few tips as I own one, Use harmony sparingly (lower the level) so it doesn't become over powering in the mix The audience will look at you weird if there is one singer and you use harmony. As they think you are auto tuned (they are just uneducated) If you naturally sing high, don't use to many harmonies 3 and 5 above because it clearly sounds weird and unnatural (eg, use a lower harmony to help thicken up the vocals without sounding like Alvin and the chipmunks) It works great in my band when multiple ppl are singing and can really thicken up the vocals and sounds like it's us rather than a machine helping Lastly, turn off the reverb when talking to your audience as the ppl in the back won't be able to clearly hear you at all and you WILL sound 100% muffled Rock on 🤘
When using it in a live setting, why wouldn't you want to split the vocal outputs and run them dry (without any effects) and run the effects from the mixer to the mains? I can't figure out why someone would want to use the onboard vocal effects in a pedal rather than the built in effects from the mixer (or external processor, whichever). Of course, a solo singer/guitar player could completely bypass using a mixer if they used this pedal through a sound tower or something. I think I just talked (typed) my way through the question..lol.
I’m so confused because I’m not connected to any instrument and I tried it out and I sound like a freaking robot on all the settings except one Can anyone help me out and tell me why that is because I’m not using a guitar because it’s supposed to be a box for singing not for a guitar so I don’t know why I would need an instrument for it. I am thinking of getting one of these. I own a Helix floor. Can you tell how you set it up with your Helix? Where in your signal chain? Do use it in front of your Helix or in the effect loop?
You have to have the harmoniser first in your signal chain! If the harmoniser gets a really clean signal, it is much more accurate! If you put in overdrive signal into it or distortion or chorus or something it doesn’t work properly! I hope that helps!
I mainly play fingerstyle guitar while singing. I pluck all individual notes of a chord like an arpeggio. Will this pedal be able to bring out the harmonies ?

Hi!
Which other pedal do you consider better than this one?
I think the TC Helicon sounds not so artificial than the other pedals I’ve tested.

Hello, Can I connect an "aux send" (with guitar amp channel) as a guitar imput ?
Yes! You sure can. And a keyboard too if you like!
Great singing man, even without the pedal
Great review, precise and concise !!! Thank you for it!!! Cheers!
My pleasure man! I’m glad you enjoyed it! Get out there and get singing!
been thinking about this pedal. great review
Thanks mate! It’s really very VERY clever technology!!
As I understand it, the harmonies are in tune with the guitar, but what if your singing is a little bit off key, does it adjust your singing voice too? Like an auto tuner?
No mate! There is no auto tune in this pedal!
Great demo ! How about if I will only use this for vocal harmony effects WITHOUT any instruments. Only with backing tracks. Would it still be useful? I'm debating between the TC duplicator or TC harmony singer. Im a vocalist and I don't play any instrument.
Yes mate. It works with backing tracks too!
Thanks, brother! Great review. Exactly what I'm looking for.
My pleasure mate! Glad it was useful!!
can i use this without the guitar and just minus one karaoke?

The best video!
With only mic in how does it know what chords your playing on your guitar to harmonise?
It doesn’t… you need to plug in a guitar, or a keyboard, or a backing track, or something like that!

Well explained, straight to the point.top man.
Probably a dumb question, but could i plug in a bass guitar and make it work the same way?
Great question! Yes and no. It won’t work with single notes… but it will work if you are playing chords on your bass
Quisiera saber si este pedal lo puedo usar con micrófono de condensador y cuenta con phantom power?
Do you still have to do an update for the Harmony Singer 2?
Not that I know of??? I’ll jump online and have a look!
Thanks man, I really appreciate it, FedEx is delivering one to me in the next few days!
How does the harmony sound compare to the VE500. Is it more realistic?
I enjoyed your demo of this pedal. Do you know if it works independently of the guitar? I'm a vocalist and there are times when I need a harmony without an instrument plugged in. Do you know of a harmony pedal that works in this way?
Will this pedal work thru a digital keyboard ? Thanks !
Yep! Sure will… it works with a guitar, keyboard and even backing tracks!
It's a great pedal, but I wish it had a delay effect knob on it too. Delay should ideally come before reverb, so using the pedal's reverb and then the delay on a PA is kind of backwards, although you can get away with it.

I'm still swaying towards the
BOSE V2 for my needs, although the harmony on it seems to sound to foney. I'm a house, dance music vocalist so need a vocal effects box on the go for this reason.

Hi mate! The harmoniser needs a guitar or a keyboard or a backing track plugged in to it! It doesn’t work by itself!
I get it. But do u have to play the guitar, keyboard or whatever instrument at the same time to activate the vocal sounds or as long as it's connected to one of those. Sorry for the question champ I really like to know the accuracy of what to do coz I don't have a background knowledge of these kinda issues. So greatly appreciate ur feedback sir🙏💯🙌

hOw do you connect the vocal harmonizer to the rest of your pedal board? Thank you..
Hi mate! It has a guitar in and a guitar through! Make sure it’s first in your signal chain… it needs a nice clean guitar signal!

I have just got this pedal and it's great, is it OK to pair it with the voice tone series?
Yeah! I’d make sure it’s first in the chain though!!
@@thepedalpicassos thank you, would that be the same for the mic mechanic too?
And using, for example, only the third option, without connecting any instruments, can it reproduce well? It seems that even without connecting he is able to do the second voice well if it is a simple option. I have a band where I have the lead singer and I opening a vocal harmony, but we would like another third voice. If the Tc Harmony Singer 2 is capable of playing at least 1 single voice without an instrument, it would be ideal for me, because I play drums too and do the backing. Thanks
Wondering if you ever got an answer to this. I want to use it without any instrument too just for a one part harmony
But if you don't want too much in your head and play more freely or if your band likes to change things in the show very often then I think you won't like it or at least it will be one more thing to complicate your life lol
Hope this helps.
Which boss do you use for octave down?
The Boss VE-500. It’s a beast!!!
It's possible plug a bass with harmony singer or just guitar or acustic guitar?
It only works if you play chords… it needs to hear the root note and the 3rd note of the chord so it knows if it’s a major or minor. If you’re playing single notes on a bass… it won’t have enough information to generate the correct harmony! If you are the bass player and the singer in a band, you can just run a line from your guitar player or keyboard player into it so it has a musical reference! Hope that helps!!
Hello, I'm discovering your channel from France. Is it possible to memorize several voice effects with this pedal? That is to say, voice alone, voice with third, voice with fifth, or do you have to adjust each time?
This pedal doesn’t have any ability to save presets! Sorry mate!
@@thepedalpicassos Thank you for replying and... Rock and Roll
I really want build pedal like what you have, but i don’t know how to do that😢🙏🏼
I am looking for a pedal that allows me to:
* pick a harmony note setting that is dialable chromatically anywhere on the scale one octave up or down.
Wowsers! That’s a big list of requirements! The eventide H9000 does all that!
Will it work with a bass guitar plugged in?
Not really! It needs a full chord to get a reference for the correct key…
Bonjour peut-on s’en servir sur fl studio sans instrument de musique pour la correction
Merci infiniment je ne trouve pas d’explication en français 😩
Excellent!
Thanks for a great review
No worries mate!
What is the cable management box at the top right of your board? Is it commercially available or did you put it together from parts? Thank you.
Hi mate! I got it custom made at a place called “American Loopers” From memory it was actually pretty cheap, and I think They’ve made it available on their website now!
@@thepedalpicassos Fantastic. Thanks for replying so quickly. Really appreciate all your reviews, particularly those for vocal effects.
@@thepedalpicassos what exactly does the junction box do?
My question, I don't use a guitar, just want to use it between the mic and my mixer board, nothing else at all.
This one needs a guitar or a keyboard or a backing track to use as a reference to generate the correct harmonies! The Boss VE-500 can be set to specific keys with no audio reference! Hope that helps!
Thank you sir, now I know.

So how does this work if you're not a guitarist; given that it follows the chords? I'm a bass player and lead vocalist, and this could be really useful, but I'm unsure how it works without guitar chords?
It has an instrument in, input and instrument through, output. Bass would work.
Whose harmonies better? between this tc and boss Ve500?

Never actually tested it out .
Tc Helicon pedals do not take batteries
Few tips as I own one,
Use harmony sparingly (lower the level) so it doesn't become over powering in the mix
The audience will look at you weird if there is one singer and you use harmony. As they think you are auto tuned (they are just uneducated)
If you naturally sing high, don't use to many harmonies 3 and 5 above because it clearly sounds weird and unnatural (eg, use a lower harmony to help thicken up the vocals without sounding like Alvin and the chipmunks)
It works great in my band when multiple ppl are singing and can really thicken up the vocals and sounds like it's us rather than a machine helping
Lastly, turn off the reverb when talking to your audience as the ppl in the back won't be able to clearly hear you at all and you WILL sound 100% muffled
Rock on 🤘
Thanks for the tips Sterling!
I’m so confused because I’m not connected to any instrument and I tried it out and I sound like a freaking robot on all the settings except one
Can anyone help me out and tell me why that is because I’m not using a guitar because it’s supposed to be a box for singing not for a guitar so I don’t know why I would need an instrument for it. Can anyone please explain
You know what else spoils the mix. A horrible buzzing or humming sound comming from the harmony singer 2..

Does it go through the PA or the guitar amp?
Vocals go to a PA… guitar can come out of the pedal and go in to whatever you choose!
can you use the pedal with out an instrument plugged into it
Nope... sorry mate!
Can it be use without the guitar for the tone and reverb use only?
Thank you the review.
Yeah! It sure can… but the harmonies won’t work!!
Really nice pedal I'll be checking it out
Could you tell me what model your Maton is and what woods. It looks awesome.
Will it harmonize without any plug in instruments? Just singing along with any connections to any instrument?... ty!
Hi B Frank! It needs an input to harmonise with. Play a major or minor chord and it will harmonise the vocal input with the instrument reference.
What if you're a rhythm guitarist playing electric guitar through a complete pedalboard. Where would you place the pedal?
First! It needs the cleanest possible guitar tone!!
I just got an 2nd hand 1 today! LaTrobe Valley boy eh? I got a cousin in Traralgon! (I'm in Dande!)
