Your cover of "Read all about it" is the BEST. (see video at 8.05 mins) A soulful voice with a strong message and warmth. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
This is the Best demo I have ever seen. Just right!! I am sold on the TC Helicon Harmony Singer. That is next on my list. I thank both of you. Great singing, great guitar playing!!
Hi David, I believe it will work. The Guitar input is just to provide the reference chord to base the harmony upon. TC Helicon made a video with a guy using an electric guitar so it should work fine.
I agree with poster below.....most examples are with the "level"/"wet" too high which makes it sound chipmunky. Need to back it down to make it sound more organic.
This is awesome! It's one more step to be band-at-once as an singing guitarist. E.g. if you have an loopstation to arrange your track you become self-suffitient with such harmonizer. Must have!
Thats what i love about the Andertons reviews... High Quality demos, good musicians, the reviews are actually honest and we get to see all sides of the product. Why don't i live in that wonderful, rainy country :/
A vocoder uses a carrier-wave to control the way the voice sounds, like a synth or guitar etc. This unit "listens" to the chords and lead vocal notes that are being played/sung and with the 2 pieces of info can pick an appropriate harmony note to output. It's quite different than a vocoder. :)
Yep, it'll work perfectly with a guitar tuned down a 1/2 step, whole step, open tunings etc. The only time things get wonky is if you tune to a non 440Hz reference, since the unit can't change its reference pitch.
Hi Dexter, Aspects of this could be used with a Wireless Mic if you placed the receiver on the stage and added the Harmony Singer to the output chain. You would not have the HIT feature on the mic which would mean you would have to be close to the pedal to operate it... This might therefore remove the usefulness of the wirelessness (if thats even a word!!)
Hi Samuel I would suggest you put this first in your chain to get the cleanest signal possible, It may well work with the distorted effects but I think the earlier in the chain this gets the guitar signal the better.
The VoiceTone Harmony G-XT (also a TC-Helicon product) has been out for quite awhile. It is a bit bigger than this unit, but it has a humanize knob, and gives you more control over the choice of harmonies and effects. It also has 10 user-programmable presets, stereo outputs and 2 foot switches so you can have different sounds in a song without stopping to bend over.
It's a very interesting pedal. Very clever how it changes pitch with the guitar. I sing occasionally and I would consider buying it for those occasions.
Nice real nice.... It would be even better if it could send the harmony signal to a seperate output channel for different treatments like panning and effects.
All that... Panning, After effects and volume up and down controlled from the Mixer. That would all be possible if the backing vocals signal was routed separately.
I belive that for demonstration purposes, the level is set a bit higher than you normally would. Therefore the drowning effect. A nice enough toy for solo stuff, but would never replace backing vocals and what they can do. I want one!
The pedal does sound natural. They have the effect mix turned up in the video so you can hear what the pedal is actually doing. In the mix is where harmonies go, tucked into everything. Any time you a vocal copy it will sound somewhat robotic. But again, in the mix is where harmonies go, so for that the pedal works great.
T C make great vocal effects and for questions that have been asked yes it works well with an electric guitar or keyboards for that matter providing the unit can "hear" that you are playing a major or minor chord its fine. For those of you that say it is cheating think again if you can't sing pretty much in tune then you are going to sound really bad when it kicks in.. Personally I find they sound better with the harmonies not too loud. We use the H1 in our band with female vox - not being a good harmony singer myself find that if I sing the melody along with the vocalist with the harmony pedal set to 1/3 above and below we get a pretty massive vocal harmony sound and of course you have to use it sparingly.
Hi Roy, This would not work in the way you want it to, It needs a signal from the Guitar and the mic to create the outputed mic harmony based on the guitar input key. Just go with the PS-6 as its built for purpose. Tim
I think its a good demo. The harmonies sound great for the most part. The down side is it isn't practical to have to switch through settings during an actual live performance. It seems like it would be fun to play around with.
@@sbowl40 i've got this...it's problematical with electric guitar because the box likes straightforward non-confusing signals.....it's great with acoustic guitar but stay clear of doing anything fancy...just support the singer with cowboy chords.
One of the things that happens in demos is that the harmony needs to be cranked up fairly high to ensure you can actually hear it in videos etc. In practice, we find that turning the harmony down and blending "behind" the lead voice is a much more realistic and pleasing way to use the unit.
Cool tech, in my opinion. It's not perfect, but she made a good point toward the end of the vid about making sure to plan out what sections of your songs the pedal would work best with. With that in mind, that pedal could be really useful in a live acoustic setup. Good demo.
Thank you :) We can't post links here in the comments but if you look at the video description there is a link to my band's facebook page right at the bottom. We are called Orestea.
Hi, It would work if all you want is the "Magic Tone Button" as we like to call it. Maybe consider the Mic Mechanic instead as that also has the Tone button.
Hi, What are you planning on achieving? If you want to place this before the interface then I am sure that would work ok but surely a better way would be to record a clean vocal and then add the harmonies via your DAW.
I am a studio musician/engineer/producer and I absolutely love your voice!! It has a hauntingly beautiful quality that is so full of emotion and passion. I must confess that I am a fan after hearing you only once, and would love to hear more of your singing...any links?
you really have done a great demo here. these gadgets are often dismissed as un natural and cheating but I think you do prove how in the right hands they can be very musical and useful. And lets be honest as a solo artists there are many times I could die for a bit of harmony to help out, even if its dead simple and basic like a third etc. Finally, I actually really like and enjoyed your singing...what a lovely voice. You are very talented.
Hi Don, Hiss usually comes from too much gain somewhere in the system. Make sure you adjust the Mic Gain knob on the side so that the green/yellow LED lights as much as possible when you're singing, but not RED. Then at the mixer, turn up the input trim until it clips, then back it off slightly. It should help a lot.
As long as you also tune you voice a half step down you will be fine... My guess is that as long as you sing in the same key as your guitar you should be fine.
@john gill Using a bass will give you unpredictable results because this unit needs more than one note (or even two) at a time to analyze the harmony. For instance, if you're playing a G, it doesn't know if you want G major, G minor, or if the G is even the root of the chord anyway. If you want to use this device in a band for your own voice, you could get your guitarist or keyboardist to feed you his audio for chord detection only, and have your microphone go through it for voice processing.
She had it on all the time for demonstration. Obviously it's for stress points on a song if one doesn't have a backup singer. I've heard plenty of songs that use this effect on studio versions of songs and when a singer is playing live and wants that backup singer effect but doesn't have a backup singer. This product is basically useful for studio use or for one live song (because one would have to set up the settings for the next song which might distract the audience).
It was difficult to tell with it not being a live gig situation. The playback was quite quiet in the room so we mainly got the natural guitar sound anyway. From listening back there was potentially a little bit but whether you would notice that live I'm not sure. The compression on RUclips always tends to lose a bit of the sound quality anyway.
The singer would also have to (know and) play the chords of the karaoke songs (in the key it's playing) into the pedal along with their voice for the harmonies to play properly. But hey it would still be 'fun' to hear them without a guitar guiding the vocals - not necessarily pleasant to the ears though :-)
A little shaky but pretty damn cool. Good for those who don't want to use a backing vocal track for smaller performances. Can be used for any genre really. Think I'll pick this up some day for my metal act when there's clean singing. Not everyone on my band can sing and play at the same time so this would help during some choruses. For this demonstration they may have had the volume too high but better to hear what its actually doing.
I used the Digitech "Harmony Machine" in the 80's, took a LOT of workarounds to use it live, including two volume pedals to swell the harmonies into a matched backing... what seems to be a lot less prevalent with this unit is the "Mickey Mouse" effect that, up until now most budget price vocal harmonisers will produce ... I'm not usually impressed by vocal processors at these prices, but yes.. from this demo.. I'd say it's a no brainer for any vocal harmony "gigging" band...
i think when a guitar is in soft level strum or pluck, the TC harmonizer hardly pick the tone to harmonize, but on top of that, its a great machine for a solo artist
I just bought a TC Helicon Harmony singer, and i can see that it will take some time to learn how to use it. i thought this video was very useful, i also thought the young lady has a beautiful voice and is very pretty. I do not understand those nay sayers and their ugly comments. ..
great song without the pedal but man what a tool that thing is.......nice job explaining and id be interested in hearing your music as well ty........j
It's a cool little harmony pedal. However, with price you pay for it, it's worth spending a little more and getting the voicelive touch 2. She has great vocals with or without the effects though!
The Girl with the green Hair has a great pesonality and speaking voice. She can have a great career with music and hosting a TV show or Voice over work.
Wov, quite nice work of engineering. Using the instrument as a data source is awesome idea. Don't know how handy the form factor would be, because the singer would need to kneel to change the configuration. With guitar and mic stand (the way this is intended to be used?) that would not work. A bigger unit with more foor switches would maybe be better. The sound quality will definetly improve when years pass, I'm sure. Now it is a bit strange.
After switching foot pedal off/on like 5-6 times it stops working. Light turns to red. I take tge chord out put it back on , it starts working then after switching on/off 5-6 times it stops working again. What can I do to get it working again? Please help
Seriously, that is the best demo I've seen on RUclips! And I've watched a TON of guitar videos... Wow she has a great voice! Does she have any music for sale?
I wasn't very impressed with this device until they did that "Read all about it" song. It seemed to work really well with that song. Like she said, I think you have to be mindful of the song and what's going to work well with it.
"Read all about it" - Emeli Sande (8:32)
"Cry me a river" - Justin Timberlake (4:40)
"Wake up" - Coheed and Cambria (12:17)
Man I remember watching this the day it came out. 7 years flown by..
Right? It's nuts...
Same, just had it recommended to me after watching it years ago - insane!
Beautiful. This is 11 years ago. Well done. Thank you. Great vocalist!

This is the Best demo I have ever seen. Just right!! I am sold on the TC Helicon Harmony Singer. That is next on my list. I thank both of you. Great singing, great guitar playing!!
I like how you guys showed the pros AND the cons of this pedal. Seems like an excellent pedal. I want one!!
Good to see Lloyd & Lisa back on the sofa - they always doo a good job for us!
RUclips's algorithm really loves this video, it's in my stream all the time. I saw it twice maybe, a long, long time ago. :-D
I did not expect that insane r&b voice to jump out of you. Amazing voice, thats 90% of what you hear. The pedal is just sparkle.
Much said! d;o)
sonofnothing RnB voice ? yeah. real Mary J. Blige, huh? ,,
Hi David, I believe it will work. The Guitar input is just to provide the reference chord to base the harmony upon. TC Helicon made a video with a guy using an electric guitar so it should work fine.

Hi Hallam, Yep it works with a Keyboard as well, as long as it can work out a chord from the input you are good go.
It's magic!! What a genius piece of kit !!!

How kick ass would this be for anyone who wants to do Alice In Chains stuff solo?!
Exactly. So glad that someone things about it
RIP Lane

Exactly what I was thinking lol
Hi Samuel

I heard a guy perform last night with this pedal. I'm getting one. Good video. Thank you n good luck.
I've got one now and i used it with my Juno Di... anyway..Both of you are good presenters...
I totally agree, it does the job very well. I think it would be excellent for recording as well!
Awesome product, awesome singing... and she's beautiful as well... Cheers!
Hi, The pedal needs a reference chord to be provided in order to provide the harmony. This can be a Guitar or Keyboard.
Fantastic bit of kit. She has a great voice.
I have one ! best harmony pedal ever . Thank U for showing me !
It's a very interesting pedal. Very clever how it changes pitch with the guitar. I sing occasionally and I would consider buying it for those occasions.
I'll be the king of karaoke this Friday. wohooo!!! 🐃
Nice real nice.... It would be even better if it could send the harmony signal to a seperate output channel for different treatments like panning and effects.
would you want a back up singer's voice to pan or have after affects? would you mind explaining to it me?
All that... Panning, After effects and volume up and down controlled from the Mixer. That would all be possible if the backing vocals signal was routed separately.
you have no idea how much it made my day seeing a coheed some in there!!!!!! COTF FTW!
I loved it. will buy one for my son. he will think its awesome.
Its called "read all about it"
by Emeli Sande
@ Torben: The Song is from Emeli Sandé - Read All About It (pt III).
could you create a vocal hook like this song (Robot voice) 'No Surrender - Bone Thugs N Harmony'
Andertons Music Co -i dont like how you cant pan the the harmony left or right or bothe....
Hell yeah! Crushed that Coheed song!
+Derek Griffey Coheeeeed!
I belive that for demonstration purposes, the level is set a bit higher than you normally would. Therefore the drowning effect. A nice enough toy for solo stuff, but would never replace backing vocals and what they can do. I want one!
It sounds amazing! Sheesh! I needed that in 1984! hehe! ;)
Yea i bet this would be awesome if you want to do falsetto screams like David lee Roth without damaging your voice cause this puts a harmony
The pedal does sound natural. They have the effect mix turned up in the video so you can hear what the pedal is actually doing. In the mix is where harmonies go, tucked into everything. I want to see how this works with a noisey guitar going through
You prob put your clean guitar in.
Even if you use an electric Guitar thru this, it would receive a clean sound, because The effects and The distortion are after The amplifier
@@sbowl40 i've got this...it's problematical with electric guitar because the box likes straightforward non-confusing signals.....it's great with acoustic guitar but stay clear of doing anything fancy...just support the singer with cowboy chords.
Question: looking at the girls hair color and Outdoors sock hat did this happen to be Halloween evening? 😁
Such an easy voice to listen to... Awesome keep it up!

Beautiful voice and beautiful pedal!!!

It's a nickname I got in the 70's and it kinda stuck
That is awesome! Great voice by the way...
Pretty cool pedal. Good demo of it, thanks!
Very nice voice I have to say (talking about the natural one)
And interssing effect as well
you really have done a great demo here. these gadgets are often dismissed as un natural and cheating but I think you do prove how in the right hands they can be very musical and useful. thanks for the show...this pedal is great and compact...Steven
zaaammnnnn.. all songs in this video are awesome! and awesome product too
This just takes the beauty out of being able to do harmonies with a group

The young lady with the green hair has an amazing voice. seriously...
As long as you also tune you voice a half step down you will be fine... My guess is that as long as you sing in the same key as your guitar you should be fine.

For electric, I put my guitar through a noise gate and into the pedal, back out into my pedal board. Works pretty decently.

Should be shipping by the end of May according to our TC Helicon rep.
What an amazing singer!!!!!
Here the question? Can I use this live with my rock cover band on stage? I'm hearing that it is very iffy with loud volume on stage.
It was difficult to tell with it not being a live gig situation. The playback was quite quiet in the room so we mainly got the natural guitar sound anyway. From listening back there was potentially a little bit but whether you would notice that live I'm not sure. The compression on RUclips always tends to lose a bit of the sound quality anyway.
thanks! been looking for that answer EVERYWHERE :)
This would make karaoke nights far more entertaining!!!!

This would be insane if it had a stereo output. I think it would make it even more convincing.
Holy shit, am I the only one who thinks this is simply amazing? I'd expect it to be as good as the pitch effect on my vox amp but wow this is good.
I used the Digitech "Harmony Machine" in the 80's, took a LOT of workarounds to use it live, including two volume pedals to swell the harmonies into a matched backing... what seems to be a lot less prevalent with this unit is the "Mickey Mouse" effect that, up until now most budget price vocal harmonisers will produce ... the harmony on 2nd song is very very nice.
6:44 sounds amazing
I just bought a TC Helicon Harmony singer, and i can see that it will take some time to learn how to use it. i thought this video was very useful, i also thought the young lady has a beautiful voice and is very pretty. I do not understand those nay sayers and their ugly comments. ..
You have such a beautiful voice! Both spoken and singing! :)
I really want one of these pedals! Sounds wicked!
Excellent! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Hi, from Russia, you a made beautifull voice!!! Like!!! I am interestings thees device, beefore you voice!!!
sounds good! almost like pre-recorded backing vox!
Nice review! Thanks!
great song without the pedal but man what a tool that thing is.......nice job explaining and id be interested in hearing your music as well ty........j
She is one pretty singer. She sings very well. This product does look and sound cool. Cheers, Flood!
It's a cool little harmony pedal. However, with price you pay for it, it's worth spending a little more and getting the voicelive touch 2. She has great vocals with or without the effects though!

The sound quality will definetly improve when years pass, I'm sure. Now it is a bit strange.
