It's just a funny and interesting topic. And Nintendo thinks they want us to move on but they really don't. They keep releasing the Game Cube controller for each system. Nothing like playing Smash with a Game Cube controller. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
I don't think it's so much that they want people to move on because they took the time to program gamecube controllers in there or only did a half ass job patching them out. Also, they're still making gamecube controllers. I think they just preferred people use the Wii controls.

1:50 Actually Nintendo has mentioned Brawl worked with GameCube controllers when it released on the back. You just got a copy that was made around later in the Wii's lifetime when Nintendo took off the GameCube backwards compatibility on newer model Wii's, which could be the same with Sin and Punishment. Also thanks for mentioning RE4 works with it! Now I have a reason to get back on the Wii version instead of going on another port
Wish we had known all of this back when the Wii was out and we probably would have given it more of a chance. Love it now though and play it quite a bit. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
Hey guys! I just literally found another Wii game that supports the GameCube controller but doesn't say so on the back and that's Metal Slug Anthology! The case doesn't tell you this, but it's stated as an option in the manual and others have confirmed this to be true. I was looking at my own copy of this game compilation and once I saw that in the manual I instantly thought of this video. Hopefully you guys see this message, later! :)

Unfortunately no. Not sure why as I think it would have been really easy to allow controller play. I think they were wanting to force the motion controls for that one. Thanks for watching this oldie. Cheers!
I use my Wii for zapper games ONLY... since only CRTs can use light guns & my widescreen CRT broke I need lightgun fix. but after watching this video I will give they GC controller games a try
Very true! Also, since this was filmed we've figured out that games printed after the Nintendo Wii models were no longer backwards compatible with the Game Cube the removed the controller icon. They still should have left it on there for folks rocking the early models though.
Nintendo: Teaching people how to deal with lies since 1985 That's WILD about Resident Evil 4. Straight up lies! Never knew that about ANY of these. Thanks for the heads up and intel, fellas! SMASHED this one out of the park!
LOL! Yes they have! This episode was a rabbit hole man! We found a couple and ended up going through our entire collection :). Thanks so much for watching! Cheers!
I don’t hate the motion controls but I never loved them. I’m a pretty active guy (and always have been) so I want to sit on the sofa and enjoy video games rather than playing via some control scheme shoehorned in to allegedly make people ‘more active’. For what it’s worth, I prefer motion controls on Resi 4.
They are nice on Res 4 for sure. But since I started on the Gamecube version I still prefer it that way. I'm just so used to it and stubborn :)! Thanks a ton for watching, cheers!
Great bow I need to go back through my Wii library. Like I didn't have enough to do already. 😁 Honestly though great video! I had no clue so many games on the Wii had misprints on them. Will definitely be relooking through my library soon to find some great misprinted hidden gems. Thanks guys!
Haha that's so crazy guys! Those cheeky mofos! Lieing about something you get extra is one thing but saying it's 4 player when it's not flat out sucks! Great video episode guys!
Ah yes that infamous white lie of saying you can’t play the game without the GameCube controller, haha I’ve came across some games that can handle the GameCube controllers like brawl, mario kart Wii! Awesome video guys and that beer looks absolutely delicious!!!
We were going through the game shelf and were like.........what the heck is going on here lol! Let's make a video :). Thanks a ton for watching, cheers!
Great video guys!! I think the reason why smash didn't say you could use a GC con was because the second models of the Wii took away the Game Cube controller ports and brawl came out after the new model. So they just didn't add it cuz new consoles didn't have a way to. But don't quote me on that haha
Ya, I thought about this prior to filming and I think you are 100% correct. I have noticed through collecting and flipping etc that the control schemes listed on the back of the cases vary depending on when it was printed. The Wii is such an odd little creature but we love the darn thing. Have a great week man, cheers!
Honestly, I prefer the gamecube controller. Maybe I'm just that old school who prefers sitting on the couch and enjoying a game the ole fashion way. Not that I hate motion controls, in fact Wario Land Shake It is my favorite Wii game
Totally on the same page with you! There are some Wii games that use motion controls to perfection for sure. But we love the Gamecube controller :). Thanks so much for watching! Cheers!
Wow didn’t know about Sin and Punishments GameCube controller options and the motion controls were disappointing. Gonna try it out later. RE4 on the Wii is the easiest for me to play with motion controls and is the only one I prefer that setup over classic controller. Now if I could get regular controller support with the Metroid prime trilogy I’d be thrilled. Never could get use to playing it with motion controls so I stuck with the GameCube versions.
Glad you liked the beer. I just tried another one by them called Lizard King IPA but it's a little too hoppy for my taste. They also make some limited run beers that are fantastic but hard to get.
You can take the SNES Controller that comes with the SNES Classic Edition(the Mini plug and play Console) and plug it into the bottom of a wiimote. I've only tested it on some virtual console games but it'll probably work for other titles as well.
Very nice video. With so many switch games getting released in addition to their handheld market booming. It seems as if Nintendo dropped the ball with its QA. Both in terms on things you discussed and an influx of Shovel ware. It’s nice to know now but I won’t be testing all my Wii games anytime soon.
So I got a great price on a Bluetooth adapter and connected the GameCube controller to my Nintendo switch but it does not work correctly on Mario sunshine so when you jump you can’t even stomp down 🤦♂️🤦♂️🆘 I hope someone finds a solution this is just stupid 🤦♂️
I don't usually mind classic controllers since they are fairly comfy but I would still prefer the Gamecube controller whenever possible. You pretty much hit the nail on the head with me when it came to Sin & Punishment and Nights on the Wii. I thought those were Wiimote and Nunchuck only titles which I actively avoid (Wiimote only is fine though like Donkey Kong Country Returns, but I despise the Nunchuck) simply because I prefer a traditional-ish style controller instead. Knowing this about Sin & Punishment and Nights has basically sold those games for me instantly now so thanks for the info. By the way, it is possible to use Gamecube controllers for games that only support Classic controllers at best by using a Raphnet Gamecube to Wiimote adapter. It basically treats the Gamecube controller as a classic controller for the Wii/Wii U and can also be used on the NES/SNES classic consoles. The C-stick is your right analog stick, Z is treated as both Zr and ZL and all other buttons are translated pretty literally to the classic controller buttons so as long as the game your playing doesn't need both Z buttons on the classic controller then it makes a great way to hook up a Gamecube controller. This is especially nice for Wii's that don't even have Gamecube controller ports at all. Happy gaming my dudes! :)
@@GamingOffTheGrid For sure my dudes! Raphnet makes tons of great adapters for different controllers to go on a different console. Happy I could share the info with you!
Gamecube nintendo controller jcompatability IF I am correct IDK if I am for sure [so dont totally quote meh for certain] requires defeating the security presumably or else modifiying with some kind of chip to interface the wii remote connector or for the use of removing the mystery terminal from memory card slot b from the wii I notice under the panel that can be undone with iirc three tri wing screws. 【2011 and newer purchased wii systems and most black, any blue/cyan/teal & pink etc wii console same for the wii super slim/wii mini ie the competitor of the nintendo brand competitor for answering the release of ps3 slim/playstation 3 super slim & directX engine based box console (or directX box [or even just Xbox for short]) 360 e/elite competitor ykwis
I didn't know you could play resident evil 4 with the GameCube controller but I did play with a classic controller and I didn't like it. I don't know why they didn't just give you regular controls like you have in Halo call of duty gears of war Fortnite etc but screw them.
Just found d your channel. You guys seem legit. How about a video with The best Wii games using GameCube controller. Or you could just list them quick here.. Lol. I'm finally getting back into gaming, and I have an original Wii, two GameCube controllers and only one Wii remote. Also, I'm curious what system I should upgrade to? I'm not going new quite yet, so either a PS3, PS4, or Xbox 360....
One game i really wish had Gamecube controller support is Wario Land Shake it. That game is awesome but the dpad and motions controls just don't do it for me
GameCube all the way for Smash Bros and since my Wii is retired to be my GameCube console. Because if you have a Razer or any kind of mouse that has buttons on the side and you have those for your edits or whatever you have those set to be but it stops working for some reason and you have to relearn the controls. Because I had to relearn the controls for GTA 5 on Xbox because I had the mapping of PlayStation buttons. Like you don't want to have your hands to learn the controller layout on a new controller like anyone I know haven't use the nunchuck for Super Mario Bros Wii because it says on the back the nunchuck but everyone I know does it NES style
NiGHTS is one of my favorite games. I have Journey of Dreams but have never played it. I did not like the controller options for it so I just passed. Now that I know it works with a gamecube controller, I can't wait to play it with Retro Fighters Wireless Gamecube controller.
So we have since found out that games printed after Nintendo went away from the Game Cube compatible version of the console were printed without the Game Cube controller logo. Still an odd move non the less. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
Ya some do and some don't. We believe it's tied to when the print run of the game occurred as later releases of the Wii console didn't offer Game Cube controller support. Thanks a ton for watching. This is an old one :). Cheers!
Dude, wtf Nintendon’t!?! I had no idea about these, or even that there was a Nights sequel on the Wii, how in the hell did I miss that?!? GameCube controller prefer for damn sure, most of the time the wiimote drives me up the wall and is the main reason I steered away from ports on the Wii mostly. I might have to just try out every wii game we got, especially the racing and transformers ones to see if the GameCube controllers secretly work. Maybe they were trying to force people to buy the Wii classic controller instead of reusing their GameCube controllers they already had. Sorry Nintendo, but to quote the fresh prince “uh uh, no no way, forget it!” Thx fellas!🍻
LOL! Cheers man! The most likely explanation we can think of is that once they put out other models of the Wii that weren't backwards compatible the quite pushed the Gamecube controller. Either way it would have been nice to know........ya know :)! Cheers!
Agreed! There are a very select few games that use the Wii mote effectively. Mario Galaxy being one. But for the most part it pisses me off lol. Cheers!
I would like to play need for speed carbon with the GameCube or the Wii classic pro controller but it only shows the Wii remote and nunchuck. I’m gonna buy a classic pro controller and see if it’s playable with it.
@@GamingOffTheGrid Well, I tried it, and sadly it didn’t work. I was so disappointed that the classic pro controller didn’t work on need for speed carbon for the Wii. I guess it just doesn’t support any other controllers. On the bright side, at least I got some other racing games on my Wii.
There's quite a few. If you Google Wii games that use a Game Cube controller you'll find a pretty good list out there. Had we known this back when the Wii was hot we probably would have given it more of a chance. I think a lot of folks would have. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
I heard some people saying gamecube is so good on dbz budokai tenkaichi 3, i just bought one and tomorrow ill try it? Also im so bad at that game with wii remote and nunchuck
Does anyone know if you can use the GameCube controller for Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess? It was made for both consoles which makes me think they explicitly wanted to show off the motion controls on the Wii version
I'm probably one of the few who actually liked the motion-controls. Then again, not all games on the Wii utilized the feature, and then there were some that did and they did it terribly. Case in point, Far Cry Vengeance.
I wasn't bothered about the wiimotes to be fair. Nintendo was ahead of time! As for Smash I'm pretty sure most people knew you could use the Cube controller on that? Resi 4... was one of the best due to the wiimote. Worked so well with that game. But yeah weird they didn't have the option to choose Cube? I'm guessing if it has pro controller on the box it might use Cube too?? Maybe? Great topic guys.
From what we know the answer is no unfortunately. We tend to pick up the lego games on other consoles for that very reason. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
"but I don't want nun...chuk" 😂 I definitely think resident evil 4 for the wii was the best port for the game. I prefer the wii motion controls for most games on the wii but there are some exceptions where I would play with the gamecube controller. pineapple ale!? alright I'm sold. I gotta try it. Also thank you guys for supporting the children's cancer connection. That's really amazing!
LOL!!! Not very many people have commented on that and we were laughing like crazy :)! A lot of people feel the same as you regarding Res 4 on the Wii. They definitely did a good job with it. For some reason we usually prefer a controller when we can but some game thrive with the motion controls. And you're very welcome! Hey I’ve been trying everywhere to figure this out and I think this is the best place for me to ask. Is the Wii version of LoZ: Twilight Princess able to be played with a GameCube controller? Thanks in advance for any answers
Negative. It's really weird that it's not because the game was also released on the Game Cube. So, if you want to play with a controller, go with the Game Cube version. Thanks for watching! Cheers
Resident Evil 4 Wii controls like a dream with the Wii mote and nunchuck, but visually I'd say RE4 looks better on the GameCube. RE4 just looks better if it's murky and dirty.
Totally agree. It is one of the better controlled games on the Wii with the Wii mote controls. It's awesome though how you can trick it into letting you use Gamecube controller :) lol. Thanks again for the intro! Cheers!
Even though there are multiple trailers of Smash brawl with the GameCube controller and even informational cutscene it in the game that shoes that you can use the GameCube controller the back of the box doesn't show it how
I am a classic controller user personally but gamecube is just as good if not better. I refuse to play NiGHTS without either. Sane control as Saturn original. But Pikmin 1 and 2 Metroid Prime trilogy and other fps are better nunchuk combo
It's goofy. Some copies do and some don't. Copies printed after the model of the Wii came out without Game Cube controller ports they removed the icon. Strange stuff. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Fantastic title 👌I really don't like motion controls and there's a lot of good games that force them on you. I've recently been playing GoldenEye for Wii and you can use classic or GC YES: Gonna have to check some of these out. Great vid bros 🤘
Thanks a ton! This was a fun one for sure :)! Kind of a rabbit hole to be honest. We just kept finding games on our shelf lol. Have a great week, cheers!
Negative. Unfortunate move by Nintendo at the time. The Wii Mote and Nunchuck do work pretty well for that game though. For us though, best way to play it is on the Game Cube or the Switch. Cheers!
Negative. Strange that Nintendo didn't include the Game Cube controller in the options as the game was also released on the Game Cube. So it's motion controls only on the Wii :(. But you can always pick up the Game Cube version if you want to play it with traditional controls. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

wait does this mean twilight princess (wii) has gamecube functionality? since that game was on the gamecube originally (i think?)
Found my new favorite channel, finally some retro gamers that drink IPAs and aren’t neck beards. Keep it up bros!
LOL! That's awesome man! Thanks for stopping by. Cheers and welcome to the channel!
I think a lot of the problem is they pump things out in a rush nowadays and the numbers are so large the quality control isn't there.
Very true! Also, since this was filmed we've figured out that games printed after the Nintendo Wii models were no longer backwards compatible with the Game Cube the removed the controller icon. They still should have left it on there for folks rocking the early models though.
Nintendo: Teaching people how to deal with lies since 1985
That's WILD about Resident Evil 4.
Cheers!
Makes me wonder now.... my son love racing games but he also likes playing with a gamecube controller so we skipped out on alot of games.
Mario Kart Wii and Need For Speed Nitro should do the trick :). Thanks for watching. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid trick?
It should do the "track"
I don’t hate the motion controls but I never loved them.
I’m a pretty active guy (and always have been) so I want to sit on the sofa and enjoy video games rather than playing via some control scheme shoehorned in to allegedly make people ‘more active’.
For what it’s worth, I prefer motion controls on Resi 4.
They are nice on Res 4 for sure. But since I started on the Gamecube version I still prefer it that way. I'm just so used to it and stubborn :)! Thanks a ton for watching, cheers!
The real demon of the Wii wasn't the motion controls, it was the freaking Nunchuk or whatever was called.
:) you aren't wrong. It feels so odd not having your hand bound together by a controller for sure.
Beside that, the main problem it was that it didn't come thogeder with the Wii mote
Great bow I need to go back through my Wii library. Like I didn't have enough to do already. 😁
Honestly though great video! I had no clue so many games on the Wii had misprints on them. Will definitely be relooking through my library soon to find some great misprinted hidden gems. Thanks guys!
Thanks for watching man! We had a good time with this one and had no idea these errors existed until recently. Cheers!
Haha that's so crazy guys! Those cheeky mofos!
Lieing about something you get extra is one thing but saying it's 4 player when it's not flat out sucks!
Great video episode guys!
Ya the Medal of Honor situation pissed us off lol! A one player light gun game?? Come on man LOL! Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid yeah there is no need for that!!
My dudes. RE4 for Wii is perfect with perfect motion controls.
It is pretty damn good for sure but for some reason we prefer a controller :). Thanks for watching man. Cheers!
Gaming Off The Grid why did you heart your own comment
@@cruz6720 Why not. Gotta love yourself too
Ah yes that infamous white lie of saying you can’t play the game without the GameCube controller, haha I’ve came across some games that can handle the GameCube controllers like brawl, mario kart Wii! Awesome video guys and that beer looks absolutely delicious!!!
We were going through the game shelf and were like.........what the heck is going on here lol! Let's make a video :). Thanks a ton for watching, cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid oh also virjfual console titles and even the mario all stars by "nintendo selects" series
Yeah we dont mind motion controls but any game we can use the Gamecube controller we will! Cheers!
Glad you liked the beer. I just tried another one by them called Lizard King IPA but it's a little too hoppy for my taste. They also make some limited run beers that are fantastic but hard to get.
They have definitely impressed us so far, great stuff. Thanks again man and hope all is well. Cheers!
Who didn't know Brawl was GameCube controller compatible? It tells you in the attract mode "4 Ways to play".
You can take the SNES Controller that comes with the SNES Classic Edition(the Mini plug and play Console) and plug it into the bottom of a wiimote. I've only tested it on some virtual console games but it'll probably work for other titles as well.
that is a good point. we have done that on some games also
Very nice video. With so many switch games getting released in addition to their handheld market booming. It seems as if Nintendo dropped the ball with its QA. Both in terms on things you discussed and an influx of Shovel ware. It’s nice to know now but I won’t be testing all my Wii games anytime soon.
Thanks so much for watching! We find this type of stuff so interesting. Cheers!
Im not sure of this since i dont have the GC controller to test it, but i heard that NFS carbon can be played with GC controller too
We have been told that! We need to test it! Cheers!
I’m going to be honest, I only clicked on the video because of the pun
LOL! Well thanks for stopping by. Cheers!
So I got a great price on a Bluetooth adapter and connected the GameCube controller to my Nintendo switch but it does not work correctly on Mario sunshine so when you jump you can’t even stomp down 🤦♂️🤦♂️🆘
I hope someone finds a solution this is just stupid 🤦♂️
We will have to test that out! Didnt know that! Cheers!
Thanks a ton for the info! Had NO idea they made an adapter for the GC controller to go into the Wii Mote. Totally badass. Cheers!
Interesting facts that we didnt know! Thanks! Cheers!
😱 I am shocked.
That beer sounds mighty tasty.
The brew was so damn good :)! Ahh the good ol' Wii, we still love it! Cheers Linda!
I didn't know you could play resident evil 4 with the GameCube controller but I did play with a classic controller and I didn't like it. I don't know why they didn't just give you regular controls like you have in Halo call of duty gears of war Fortnite etc but screw them.
We dont mind it but we understand the frustration! 🍻
@@GamingOffTheGrid "Wii don't mind" fixed it for you.
I'm not going new quite yet, so either a PS3, PS4, or Xbox 360....
glad you found our channel. that would be a good idea for a video. we might consider it. we woule recommend the ps3 or 360 cheers
One game i really wish had Gamecube controller support is Wario Land Shake it. That game is awesome but the dpad and motions controls just don't do it for me
That would be awesome for sure. Such a badass game. Would be awesome to get a new Wario Party game for the Switch at some point
Disney Infinity 3.0 on a Wii U with the Pro Controller
Sorry nunchuck
I actually liked playing Smash Bros on a Wii controller as opposed to a gamecube controller.
Nice! I'm not in that camp but I do really like that game.
You can also play Sonic Colors with a GameCube controller
Good to know :)! I don't think we have ever played that game. Gonna have to pick it up. Cheers!
Gaming Off The Grid it’s a fun Sonic game
Thanks for the tricks man. I have RE4 Wii and didn't know this.
Definitely an interesting life hack :)! Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
Can you make a top 10 Wii Game that works with game cube controller
That's a great idea. We will look into it for sure. Thanks a ton for watching and your suggestion. Cheers!
That is a good point on Super Mario Bros Wii! Really like that game btw. Thanks for watching man, cheers!
NiGHTS is one of my favorite games. I have Journey of Dreams but have never played it. I did not like the controller options for it so I just passed. Now that I know it works with a gamecube controller, I can't wait to play it with Retro Fighters Wireless Gamecube controller.
Thats an awesome controller we need to snag one! Enjoy man! Cheers!
I got a question can you use a wii mote and nunchuck with SNES games on the wii
you cant. they dont give that option
Smash Bros. has the GameCube icon in the UK. How odd. Wonder why there was such miscommunication.
So we have since found out that games printed after Nintendo went away from the Game Cube compatible version of the console were printed without the Game Cube controller logo. Still an odd move non the less. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid Very odd. And cheers bois. Having some beer right now. Love everything you do! Much love!
Enjoy man! Can't wait to get off work and have one myself :). Awesome to hear you are enjoying the content. Greatly appreciate the support
My copy of brawl had the GameCube remote on the back
Ya some do and some don't. We believe it's tied to when the print run of the game occurred as later releases of the Wii console didn't offer Game Cube controller support. Thanks a ton for watching. This is an old one :). Cheers!
Fire emblem Radiant dawn is a wii game that can use a gamecube controller. I'm just letting you know Gaming off the Grid.
good find man. theres probably a ton we missed. thanks for watching
Sorry Nintendo, but to quote the fresh prince “uh uh, no no way, forget it!”
Thx fellas!🍻
LOL! Cheers man! The most likely explanation we can think of is that once they put out other models of the Wii that weren't backwards compatible the quite pushed the Gamecube controller. Either way it would have been nice to know........ya know :)! Cheers!
Oh definitely the gamecube controller. I hate the wii remotes. Probably the worst controllers ever imo. And gamecube Is one of the best
Agreed! There are a very select few games that use the Wii mote effectively. Mario Galaxy being one. But for the most part it pisses me off lol. Cheers!
It works fine for 2d games it's basically the same as a nes controller
I would like to play need for speed carbon with the GameCube or the Wii classic pro controller but it only shows the Wii remote and nunchuck. I’m gonna buy a classic pro controller and see if it’s playable with it.
Hope it works out for you man! 🍻
Please, tell me more! What's the comprehensive list on these?
There's quite a few. If you Google Wii games that use a Game Cube controller you'll find a pretty good list out there. Had we known this back when the Wii was hot we probably would have given it more of a chance. I think a lot of folks would have. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

Does anyone know if you can use the GameCube controller for Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess? It was made for both consoles which makes me think they explicitly wanted to show off the motion controls on the Wii version
Yep both the wii and Gamecube version you can use the Gamecube controller! Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid Wow thanks, wasn't expecting this quick of of a reply or one at all on a 2 year old video!
I'm probably one of the few who actually liked the motion-controls. Then again, not all games on the Wii utilized the feature, and then there were some that did and they did it terribly. Case in point, Far Cry Vengeance.
Some games did a great job w/ the controls. The Galaxy games for sure and quite a few others. We are really loving the Wii right now :). Cheers man!
Im getting a gamecube controller today :D
Awesome! Such a great controller. Cheers!
Every gc remake should have gc controller support. Also every game that supports the classic controller
that would be awesome if they did that we lovr the gamecube controller
Do you know of any wii games that say they can't use the classic controller but actually do?
That's a good question. We are sure there are but will have to dig in a bit more. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
Ok thanks.☺
If you don't hear from us by the end of the weekend rattle out cage lol. We get busy with production and forget shit :)
Thanks a ton for watching! Sometimes the classic controller is an indicator but not always. It's very weird. Cheers!
I want to know if the classic controller or gamecube controller will work for the lego games on the wii
From what we know the answer is no unfortunately. We tend to pick up the lego games on other consoles for that very reason. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
They didn’t lie about it, but Castlevania Judgement can use the GC controller. It’s not a great game, but it’s ok and probably cheap.
