Yes, please keep making more Layout tutorials. They are all easy to follow. Thanks a lot Aaron!!
And again, new something new after years of using layout. Please, keep up with this Layout videos!
I enjoy so much the way you do these videos. Makes the learning fun. Great! And thank you for that!
In my own personal use of dimensions in Layout, I make it a habit of putting dimensions in their own Layout layer. This makes it trivial to hide/show them with a simple click on the Dimensions layer visibility eyeball. It also makes it super easy to select all dimensions and make global edits to their formatting if needed.
That is a GREAT tip!!
Great idea
Great! wrapp them all in a single group works too
Thanks, great video. Please keep those awesome Layout tips coming!
Level 2 of Dimensions :-) Perfect! Thank you Aaron for this addition to the first video on this.
Very informative, thanks! Learned a couple of good time savers...
Thanks Aaron, i really enjoy the videos.... The sketchup is amazing to work with and became easy with your knowledge.
The double click dimension just saved my
Life!! Thanks man
Thanks Aaron!! Very helpful.
Really informative...keep it coming!
Another great video, Aaron! I learned several helpful tips, especially for creating chain dimensions and editing existing dimensions. (I think the "four arrow move dimension" action should be an option-key feature only. I hardly ever want to move a dimension ... and disconnect it from my 3D model data.)
I'll add my vote for a separate diameter and radius dimensioning video, with these segments:
- Best workarounds for creating diameter and radius dimensions in SketchUp LayOut that adhere to standard drafting practices
- Explanation of why SketchUp LayOut still does not have native diameter and radius dimensioning capabilities
As many have pointed out in various venues, SketchUp has lots of non-architectural users, like woodworkers (me), mechanical and industrial designers, etc., who need to dimension diameters and radii on a regular basis. Heck, I bet even architects, landscape designers, civil engineers, etc., need to dimension diameters and radii sometimes, too! ;-)
Happy to tack angle dimensions... can’t speak to why a feature is or isn’t there though... mostly because I don’t know... yeah... I’m basically a glorified beta tester... they don’t tell me anything...
love love these videos. Im struggling with bringing layers of a 2D floorpan into layout!! would love a video on that!
Thanks for your excellent work. I know skp is used in a lot of small metal workshops so what about taking a look at: 1. sheet metal. How to fold and unfold - maybe introducing k-factors and bend allowance. 2. Metal Tube work: Best practice of modeling and making 2D documentation and cutlist.
Great video, I didn't know that trick of double clicking to add the next dimension from the previous point, very useful to know!
(Neither did I!)
Continue with layout. The more the better.
Very good!
You mak it easy to keep up and actually learn
I did! Thanks
Thanks!
Super
Nice😁😎👍👍👏
Absolutely amazing with your short video clips.
I have big problems getting rotated image in Sketchup. So that I get a horizontal line on a model that is drawn with several angles on the floor surface. Or the whole house is plased right north south. But maybe 13.5 degrees is twisted. How do i get the image oriented correctly. It is so important to prepare the image in Sketchup first. Thanks for al tips
How about creating a second detailed and magnified view (a second viewport) of a specific area in a larger viewport on the same page?
Great videos! Now, how do you add area calculations?
Thanks, I learnt quite a few things there. One thing, sometimes my dimensions go red, but remain red when I do the reconnect to model. Why is that?
Many thanks Aaron,
Awesome as always
May I ask some more details?
- how do you dimension diameter ? Since it s a nice SketchUp circle?
- how do you auto text the name of the SketchUp model ? It s available in the right toolbar but not inside the autotext command...
This would help a LOT ^^
Hi Aron!
Nice tips!
Is there a faster way to do arrow measurement with the same metod that you are using when double clicking for adding dimensions between two points, but instead locking the start point
too a line/point, and then double click too get the arrow measurement.
/Robin
Thanks
O MAN YOU ARE MY LOVE........
Great video!! How did you get the cut list and component letters?
I would like to know this also
Aaron could you do a video of circle center dimmention and arc length dimmention please!!!
Is it any way to dimension tex wall studs with the same origo and put each dimension on the same line between the studs?
pleasse how do i change the style of the dimension, I mean that there are arrows or only lines that are definicg dimension. Because in the first video there were arrows and now there are just crossing lines. Can I change the color of dimension too like in setchup?
What causes dimensions to not shrink and stay with the object when you zoom out and choose another object to dimension.
Nice, never knew the double click feature existed. can you show how to dimension Radii in layout?
Consider it “on the list”!
I was assuming that would be part of the video... my mistake. 🙂
Aaron, @5:42 ..Does this "rubber band dimension "work in 2017 SU ? Can't get it to work. How do I trigger the rubber band effect step by step? Thank you.
How can I force the "zero"? I'm getting [ 2'-1/2" 】instead of [ 2'-0 1/2" ]. It is confusing to the crew in the field.
Great video Erin, Thank you, can dimensions be dynamic ? meaning if i dimension a model from sketchup in layout and then that model changes in sketchup, does dimension get lost or disconnected in layout ? hope this makes sense.
They ARE connected to the SketchUp info. If you change something in SU it will update in LO!
@@AaronMakingStuff Thank you so much :)
One more question Aron, is there a plugin that you recommend for custom cabinet designing ? I have been looking into a one called CabWriter, it looks good, but in not very customizable. Thank you
Could you please talk about angular dimensions.
Please build a lesson explaining hoq to setup and maintain a personal component library. I have tried and just can't figure it out.
Can dimension styles be saved as part of a layout template? Would save me loads of time editing each new plan.
Yes, any settings you change and save as a template will save font settings, dimensions settings, line color settings etc
Lets talk about COLORS in LayOut
Is there a time when it's better to dimension directly in sketchup?
The only time I dimension in SketchUp is if I am checking or keeping an eye on a dimension or two (for example, head height as I move stairs around). Any dimensions you want on output are best placed using LayOut
I learned to draft architectural drawings before CAD existed. We were taught to never dimension anything smaller than 1/4". Cabinetry, maybe. Framers will assume you are crazy and/or inexperienced. I like to draw with precision but to avoid these "sixteenths" showing up in working drawings should I set my precision to 1/4"?
That would do it!
Please, provide us with the files you work on so to follow you up and practise the same things you do. Thanks
Sorry... this is a project I worked on for someone and cannot distribute. I do often post files I use in videos on my page on 3dwarehouse, though!
Not in my sketup,,,, once mine goes to paper space, there is no returning to modle space.. All new dimensions are now in paper space. How to get back to model space.
For every good thing about sketup there is atleast one bug?
Model space and paper space are terms from that other software. In SketchUp you can edit the model. In LayOut you edit a 2D representation of the 3D model.
RAD (radius) and DIA (diameter) dimensioning...it's 2021, right? Where is this type of dimensioning tool in Layout 2020 or Layout 2021?
I cannot export from layout to PDF, enlarging and selecting details does not allow exporting drawings to PDF MASKING
Não tem o curso em português?
When i zoom in or move in Layout it lags
Where does the cutlist come from?
This one was created by hand (only a couple pieces), but there are a few great extensions for creating cultists in SketchUp as well as Generate Report
@@AaronMakingStuff Hello Aaron, I don't mean to be a spelling nit-picker but this is sooooo good i HAVE to.
........"but there are a few great extensions for creating CULTISTS in SketchUp as well........"
Ha! I'm sure you MEANT to do that!!!! I tip my hat to you!
Seriously, though, many thanks for continued great videos. Right length, right tone, very useful.
pat433 Oops! Ha! I am pretty good at typos, but that’s a keeper!
Angles and Radii?????
Please specifically name the exact menu and buttons names that you select. I cannot read them because the resolution is so bad and you don't name them, makes it really hard.
Is anything like anything like auto numbering (auto cad ) to prepare cutting list ....?
Lists can be generated using components and generate report in SketchUp. Once created, they can be place in LayOut as either text or a spreadsheet
Thank you brother i will try it
Шняга полная
Mouth noises, ugghh. Get a mic filter, man. Please! Your vids are awesome, tho.
