    These videos are SO handy, even for a seasoned SU user. Thanks, Aron, and all.
    Here's a handy extra with sections - make a selection a 'group'.
    This places the new group-cross-section in the same place as the plane, but can then be edited and/or used elsewhere, for any purpose.

    In Denmark its a custom to mark cutting a beam by a cross from corner to corner. Likewise its custom to mark cutting insulating materials by a wave-shaped line (almost a sinus-curve). It would be nice if material configurations could be issued by editable signatures when shown in section cuts. Best regards Erik

    Thanks for the tip on rotating the section plane. I never thought of that.

    Yes I will try using section cuts for when I have used hide to work inside a model. Looking forward to more on styles!

    Suggestion for a video topic: “Flip along”. I never get it right! Nearly always have to go through all 3 axes to get the one I need. Thanks for this series.

    Thank you Aaron. Can I give you some feedback?
    IMO it would be helpful if you started the video by answering these two questions:
    1) What is a section cut?
    2) Why would I ever use one?
    (This would apply to just about every video you do.)

    Why does my section cut affect every page in layout,,,, Pages, scence, etc.... Do you have a video,,,, where a building is sent to layout and then you can cut sections to enable measurements for a real use blue print?

    Hey could you show how to make the section cut smaller so it doesnt cut all the model?? pleaseeee

    • @danialkoehn1745
      @danialkoehn1745 3 года назад +3

      Apply section inside the group of the thing you want section cut. It only sections the part of model inside the group or component that it is applied in.

    Ugh. I was hoping this would show more of the relationship between Sections, Saving Models, Sending Models to Layout, Properties to Save, "Active Section Planes......and then understanding why my Layout models keep changing randomly - and how Sections, Groups, and Tags can work together in harmony to develop a trusted method to create better Layout experiences for users who are simply trying to get some work done.

    Is it possible to create a stepped section view? Such as a case where you want to cut through two objects that are not the same distance away from the viewpoint. I searched but didn't find a follow up Square One video on sections.

    Hi Aron, Is there a way to show where you cut your section in the sketchup model when it is sent to Layout as a Plan view?

    Something new to learn. I see, we have to guess that you started not with the simple cube. Some twicking was done before the demonstration. Somehow, mine just turned out to be solid after Section command...

    Using styles can you change the section cut colour to a pattern (or image) e.g. cross hatching?

    • @douglasmichel6361
      @douglasmichel6361 3 года назад

      Although I’ve rarely used them in SU, I do believe you can. I forget however the fact I use so many other cad softwares if it’s through styles or using a hatching fill. If I’m wrong, I’m sure I’ll be corrected.

      Good question!
      Natively, I’m not sure but the great Skalp extension lets you fill with a range of patterns.

      If I’m understanding your question, changing (increasing) screen resolution may help. Use recommended resolution by video card manufacturer. Or hold down control key while tapping minus sign. Hope it works / helps

    Another cool use of section cuts is to use scenes to animate between different cuts. They look cool as anything.
    Aaron did a skill builder on it a while back:

    12 years nothing has changed why it is not possible to fill a given material, e.g. wood with lines, as it is done in a professional CAD how many times you can say the same thing, it's best to take the money and do nothing and the novices are happy

      Sections cover everything in context, meaning whatever's in that Group/Component hierarchy. Add a Section within a Group/Component to create a section of just that part of your model.
