  • In this video, we're taking a look at Components. Components are similar to Groups, but Components have more information and there are some "smarts" that you get in a Component that you don't get in a Group. Follow along and learn more about them.

OK, when you dragged components from the library, I said, "Whoa!!" out loud. I've just found these videos today and with the amount of time I'll be saving I'll be able to watch so many more videos! ;-) Thanks for another one!

Appreciate your lessons! Thanks for the tip about deleting the component completely from a model.

Good recap of component basics. Looking forward to a deeper dive into component element in the next video.

I’ve been watching your tutorials for a while. I find your information very helpful. I’m a former CAD user and find Sketch Up to be so much more satisfying

Aaron, This is great. If it doesn't already exist, it would be great to have a comparison video looking at Groups, Components, and Tags.

Please explain the difference between the Outliner and Tab, especially now that Tab can have the ability to create outlines. How would I apply each function?

How do create a grab point so when you bring a component into your model you can properly place a component into your model. I see this as a good way to do windows or doors.

I have a model of a hope chest with several components, they are all similar and symmetrical. As I double-click around I realized that each component has its own origin but oriented differently from each other. Does this matter?

How do you put it in your default library. I'd like to take whole rendering of other projects and drop them in others.

One of the powers of components is that they do not incrementally increase model size. If you had a thousand drums drawn it would be in the Mega byte range. Thousand of the same component would be in the kB range.

Ok here is my question. i understand how to create components that are within my existing model, but how can I make components visible and use able by other (the next) designs? Can I place them in a common library ? Thanks

Yes! Right-click the Component and select Save As to save the Component as a separate .skp file on your computer.

Is it possible to undo a component? In other words you have a group of things you made as 1 component but you don't want it to be a component anymore. You actually want it to be just as it was before you made it a component. Don't want to delete it, just want to undo the component I made so all the pieces are still together as I built it but no longer a component. Hope this makes sense. I made a greenhouse sketch and after sketching the base design made it a component. I would like to undo that without losing my design?

The "group" video referred is probably ruclips.net/video/c0jHTzB5l8o/видео.html&ab_channel=SketchUp . Beware that it's not in the "square one" play list (probably should be added)
