Honestly I think white was nice and gave pink her pearl (aka our pearl) to pink after her pearl was damaged because if you look at her gem placement it’s the exact same as whites.

MY THEORY: Our Pearl was made by white diamond and was a gift to pink after volleyball was tooken away by white and is now under her control. Every pearl that we've seen has their gem on the same spot as their diamond, For example : Yellow pearl and blue pearl have the exact same gem placement as yellow and blue diamond. Also rebecca said in a interview that pearl orignial owner is pink diamond, not white diamond.

I think the reason pearl looks like that was because she is a default pearl ... From what I can gather pearls are customisable as such in the reef and I guess pink didn't want pearl to be customised coz she might remind her of volleyball... And these custom changes could be painful which is a reason why pearl looks up to pink...that's just my opinion tho

It's classical villain build up. Each antagonistic character that has been showing up in SU has been more threatening than the last, starting with Lapis. And in certain aspects, yes, Peridot was more of a threat than Lapis. Lapis is definitely, no question about it, more powerful (controlling an entire ocean with a cracked gem) than Peridot, however Peridot had a contact point with Homeworld (at least at first,) 5,000 years worth of advanced Gem technology, and a sharp, discerning, logical-oriented mind. And it just built up from there. Wherever White is, whatever she's doing, it's not good.
What if Pearl was made for White Diamond but came out defective, then Pink Diamond "adopted" her and gave her to Rose Quartz. That would explain the pink diamond on her space suit and why she was white in "The Answer". And her color scheme is so vast because she's a Crystal Gem and can express her creativity
I honestly think Pearl was made to love Pink Diamond in proxy of White Diamond. It would make so much sense why she had such a unhealthy level of selfless love to Rose, because Rose became a substitute in place of Pink Diamond.

Izzy McGee that's because they came from jaspers kindergarten. Remember how peridot was comparing amethysts perfect conditions to jaspers subpar ones. She even said "this place could do in a pinch." And went on about how the injector drills were strewn around with barely any decency. All the exit holes were jagged and misshapen with the exception to jaspers. That's why carnelian is so small and skinny is giving lars a run for his money in the 'who looks more like a twig' competition.
Pearl could've been all white originally, but then under the authority of Rose when Pearl was hurt, Rose could've used her tears to heal her which explains the pinking

I imagine white diamond would have all the extremely high class gems, as the paragon (a white diamond AKA diamond) was the most pure, shiny, and clear gem ever found. Blue diamond has not too high class but powerful gems. Yellow diamond has lower class gems Pink diamond has diaversed gem rarities, with some being low class and some being higher class.
I believe pearls multi-coloring is due to her not being bossed around. if blue diamonds Pearl were to poof and regenerate, she would come back differently but in the same color, seeing that she is not to be herself but a reflection of her diamond. our pearl isn't owned and that gives her space to be herself, finding singularity by mixing colors and styles as she pleases. Please let me know if there are any loopholes or errors to my theory!

Right! It's easy to forget that gems can change their physical forms, and I don't think it is a coincidence of gem placement and skin color being like white diamond's. It also could be that Pearls on homeworld are slaves that their physical forms are actually controlled by their owner.

Exactly! And in "The Answer" her outfit was only pink and blue, not like the multicolor ones we've seen her wear since the beginning of the show. I just assumed that was one of her first attemps at "designing" a look for herself that wasn't the one she was expected to use for her owner. And since she probably got poofed a lot during the war and tends to take her time when she can for her reformations, she's become practically an expert in putting different colors into her projected form.
This too. I mean, Garnet looked like that cake from Sleeping Beauty when she first appeared and look at her colors now. Is not unprecedented that a gem suffers a radical change on her color scheme from her first outfit to her more recent one.
That's what I said! Like in the episode where pearl reforms to her current form, there are silhouettes of all her past forms, and they're all in some way related to the show thus far (all but one) the first one was pearl from the pilot, the third was her 80's from the past, the forth was her form from the beginning of the show, and then her fifth. It's the second one that I think ties her to a diamond. It's pretty basic with a little more hair I think, but it also has that same translucent trill draping down around the shoulders and wrists, the classic frill of the other two diamond pearls
Okay, I just want to point out, Holly Blue Agate said during That Will Be All, that she never expected to see Yellow Diamond in the flesh. Meaning that the courts of each diamond may never see gems from another court. And the Diamonds all have different colonies, along with the fact that White Diamond was the LEADER. She never would’ve visited another planet for any non-extreme reason. So our Pearl COULD be White Pearl. Just pointing that out. :) Also Holly Blue and Sapphire were both for Blue Diamond, so it makes sense that they’re blue.

I have a theory Pearl belongs to white diamond. Proof 1: every thing that u just said. I believe that Pearl doesnt know the other pearls because they are YOUNGER than her. As we all have seen in previous videos, White Diamond is the BOSS when it come to gems. Maybe pearl was made for her, and for some time, she did serve White Diamond, and something must have happened(maybe the other diamonds) that caused white diamond and pearl to part. But this happened with pink diamond already existing. So Rose already existed too. Again, something caused pearl to get away from white diamond, same with Rose. They met each other, let garnet in their little group, amethyst, wars, diamonds and all that. Like if you agree.
I'm 1000% sure Pearl belonged to White Diamond. I've legit thought this through SO many times. 1. Her clothing color scheme is actually really explainable. In real life, Pearls reflect the colors of their surroundings. In SU, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume then, that Pearls reflect the colors of the one she is serving. Pearls are very personal and important to the Diamonds. The other Pearls serving them have their own color scheme matching that of their owners. However, Pearl doesn't belong to anyone anymore. So the multi-colored scheme of Pearl's clothing is a smack in the face to Homeworld's hierarchy. Pearl dedicated her loyalty to Rose Quartz after she left whoever she was serving. Therefore, she changed her colors to match Rose's. Her pink hair, and white skin. I'm sure she was already white, as her gem was white. 2. The other two Pearls know eachother, yes. However when Peridot calls YD and YP shows up and Steven asks her that question, it could simply be because since then, Yellow Diamond has gotten a new Pearl because something happened to her old Pearl. Maybe she disobeyed an order and was shattered? Maybe the Pearl was shattered during the gem war? And during Stevenbomb 5, our Pearl and Blue Pearl never see eachother. They came close in "That Will Be All," however Pearl stood by the door waiting for Ruby, Sapphire, and Holly Blue. And I'm one of the mind that believes that Blue Pearl and our Pearl would have been close. Also, someone down below addressed that Diamonds may have multiple Pearls. This is entirely likely, actually. So maybe Pearl met a Yellow Pearl but not THAT Yellow Pearl. 4. Rose couldn't have had a Pearl. Why? Well, that would totally go against her cause! And she was just a common quartz soldier. In "That Will Be All," we see that there are THOUSANDS of other Rose Quartz soldiers, made by Pink Diamond. All in bubbles, however they exist. Why would a common Quartz soldier be given a Pearl? Jasper is known as the "Ultimate Quartz" and SHE didn't even have a Pearl. If she did, Jasper would have had her with her when she returned to Earth. But the only Pearl on there was OUR Pearl. 5. Some people think that Pearl served no Gem at all because she's "defective" because of her oblong-shaped gem. However, her gem actually changes shape, it really depends on who drew her out in that particular episode. And that was literally proven wrong when Pearl literally said, "When I still served..." stopped, looked away, and said "Homeworld." So that's completely out. 6. ANd then there's the fact that Jasper called her a defective Pearl in "The Return." Yeah, that happened alright, however I'm pretty sure Jasper called her a "defective Pearl" because Pearls are made to sit tall, look pretty, and be completely loyal to who they serve. And here is a Pearl with NO owner. Jasper's got a very black-and-white mindset. So to her, Pearl-Owner=Defective. 7. There's also the space suit having a Pink Diamond on it. Yeah, that really stumped me, I'll be honest. HOWEVER, I thought this one out. Pearl said she hasn't left space in thousands of years in that one episode where she builds the ship and tries to take Steven in space. Well, she would have arrived with her diamond. Yes, Earth was Pink's planet, however other diamonds visited that place, as well. Blue visited, so I'm sure the others did, as well. She wouldn't have really needed that space suit because well, why? She never went into space. And I think that was more of a decorative thing. None of the other gems have ever worn a special suit. And Pearl hasn't worn it since. Because it had been thousands of years, she hadn't really manipulated that outfit a whole lot. She had also spent all those years loyal and dedicated to Rose. Therefore, her stamp of loyalty would have changed, even in just in color. I'm sure if she ever wears it again, it'll change. Especially if she poofs between now and then. 8. As far as what happened to Pink Pearl, you have to remember that these Pearls follow their diamonds nearly everywhere. Therefore, they have secrets and know things that if they belonged to someone else, the new owner could easily get it out of them. This could prove dangerous to the diamonds, especially with how shady they are about certain things. Therefore, I think it's standard protocol to shatter the Pearl after their owner has been shattered. So I'm sure Pink Pearl is also shattered.

And if you actually paid attention to Holly Blue, she's one of those gems who kiss up to authority, ignores their faults, and respects them without any question while she makes sure that lower gems like Pearls and Rubies are treated like dirt. Disclaimer: This comment was written before the video was watched. So I think that Pearl was White Diamond (or one of White Diamond's) own pearl(s). I say there might be multiple because of the fact that White Diamond seems to be the leader of the Diamonds, which you can find out more about in Cartoon Universe's video, "Is White Diamond Corrupted?" (Sorry, i don't have a link) Anyways, I think Pearl was White Diamond's because of her placement of her gem. White Diamond's gem was/is on her forehead, and Pearl's gem is on her forehead. Yes, I know thats dumb like "Katie come on just because someone has a similarly placed gem doesnt make them the same!" Now now calm yourself lets just lookie here. Look at Pearl herself, her physical form. She has pale white skin and light hair. She supposedly was wearing shorts and a skirt when she still served Home World, because in some episodes, they showed what she looked like when Steven wasn't around. White Diamond seems to have some sort of dress-like thing or ribbon on her, if you look at the mural in the Moon Base. This might just be a design choice or representation of colonies behind her, but it looks a little bit like she has a train or ribbon or something similar. After regenerating, Pearl has a ribbon around her waist that trails behind her, but then again that was while Steven was alive and she wasn't serving Home World. Please .... I still think when Peridot called Pearl defective she meant in the sense that she isn't doing as she's supposed to, not necessarily in the same aspect as Amethyst being considered defective.
This makes a lot of sense, especially since Rose and Pearl fused into RAINBOW Quartz. However, I still believe Pearl belonged to someone important before she met Rose. "Back when I SERVED... Homeworld" That means she had to have been under someone's command for a while, and if it was Rose, she wouldn't be so cryptic. Though, I imagine her former master constantly ridiculed her before she joined Rose.
Even though this video is super old I have a take on this as well. I think White, Blue and Yellow Diamond came together to form Our Pearl for Pink after her outburst causing Pink Pearl to be controlled by White Diamond. It would explain why she has all the colors of the Diamonds in her original state (Seen in The Steven Universe Movie). By all the Diamonds creating our Pearl, it would make sense that she has a deeper form of personality that isn’t just based on her Original Diamond like we see with Blue, Yellow and Pink Pearl.😊
the reason pearl is defective is because her gem is an oval, not a circle, not because of her colour scheme. i mean gems can change their colours when they reform. our amethyst is a defect but she did change the colours, and so did the other amethysts so they'll represent they belong to blue.

Well if you look at the Amethysts you'll notice they don't have the exact same size gem either. I think it's normal that not all of them have the same size gem due to placement. Like, Jasper has a gem on the place where her nose should be, shaped diamond-ish while Skinny Jasper her gem is round and on the belly button.
GClumps Amethyst are soldiers of a lower class. Pearls are made for high class authorities. If a gem were made for someone important, perfection would be key. But Amethyst and even Rubies are said to be disposable and not worth anything meaning they're gem placement wouldn't matter unlike a Pearl. So yeah, Pearl's oval gem could be her defect.
I like this theory! Steven universe has long been about acceptance, and for pearl to be rejected by the diamonds only to be accepted by rose quartz, it would give her a good reason to betray homeworld in the first place!
i'm hoping for at least a flashback or something showing what white diamond looks like up and moving about like Yellow and Blue diamond, maybe of pink too, since she's shattered and that's the best we could hope for unless we find out Steven's healing spit can fix shattered gems too.
Multiple points in this video were invalid. Pearl was originally mostly colourless, and her current colour scheme is probably due to her part in the rebellion; she doesn't want to just be a pearl. I believe that she doesn't know Yellow Pearl because it's possible Yellow Pearl was created/used after the rebellion. Holly Blue Agate might have also been created post-rebellion, or even during the rebellion. Even if she wasn't, she probably wasn't going to point out the uniqueness of Pearl out of fear and respect for Sapphire. She may not have even noticed. Also, it is entirely possible that she believed that Sapphire intended for her to look like that. Also, Pearl may have been 'defective' in another way- as people have pointed out, her gem is more ovular instead of circular. This could've still resulted in Rose adopting her as her own. I think her originally being White Diamond's, if only for a short while, is most likely. Her gem placement and original colour scheme are too close for her to be anyone else's.
AmyGamerGal I agree with you on many points, but I’d like to ad one that many people have over looked. The reason why Holly Blue Agate doesn’t recognize Pearl. The simple reason why Holly Blue doesn’t recognize Pearl is because in her estimation, Pearl is below her notice...that is until she isn’t performing her “duties” like she “should.” In historical context, aristocratic people wouldn’t take much notice of lower class/servant class individuals, especially if the gem caste system is as we think it to be. They don’t even bother giving common rubies separate identifiers. Only rare, aristocratic gems have unique designations, so It wouldn’t be beyond belief that Holly didn’t recognize Pearl, because as far as she is concerned, pearls are only noticed if they are defective! And if Pearl was White Diamond’s (or if my naming scheme hunch is right, Diamond’s) personal pearl, she would have been the paragon of what a pearl should be....until she wasn’t...and she may not be recognizable in her current form from what she was under her service to Diamond. I also think her naming scheme is a clue. Blue Diamond has Blue Pearl. Yellow Diamond has Yellow Pearl, one would assume that Pink Diamond would have had a Pink Pearl. But if you consider normal naming schemes for precious gems in our world, and diamond are by default white, as are pearls, it would be a huge hint that Pearl is just referred to as Pearl, not Rainbow, Lavender, or any of the other common colors that pearls come in...and a high quality natural Akoya white pearl isn’t pure white. It has an iridescent quality containing the entire rainbow spectrum...which one could logically assume would be a trait of Diamond herself...

Pearl didn’t really shatter pink diamond, pink diamond swallowed fake shards. Then when pearl morphed into rose quartz she poofed her she didn’t shatter her. That’s why rose quartz was able to some to Earth with pearl and garnet and amethyst. That’s how Steven was able to be made.
She could be White Diamond's because her gem is on the same location as White Diamond and all the pearls have their gems on the same place as their diamonds.
When you see Pearl reform you'll see all her previous forms. The first form you see looks awfully a lot like the Diamond Pearl's outfits. With the frills. Though she had frills as sleeves and as shorts/skirt
When you think about it, Pearl DID know about the Diamond base and its location, so, it is very likely she belonged to a Diamond, and I also think she wasn't defective, because in "Bubbled" when Garnet explained why the Rebellion started in the first place she explained "So Amethyst could be herself, so Pearl could be free, for me to be together, for you to exist." Don't you think if Pearl was defective, she's would have the same explanation as Amethyst? Also, in "It Could've Been Great" when Peridot found the unique stone, and when she moved her hands, nothing happened, until Pearl stepped on it, which resulted in it turning white, if she was meant for Pink Diamond, I really think the step would have glowed pink. But anyway, that's just my theory.

In the episode as you can see Pearl's owner was Pink Diamond (Rose Quartz) and while Pink Pearl's owner was White Diamond but Pink Pearl changed into White somehow because she was mind-controlled by White Diamond, So in that case I would thought that White Diamond gave her old pearl to Pink Diamond or maybe they just switched pearls.
If she was made for White Diamond, why is she on Earth? A Diamond's Pearl is like a right hand man, you tell them your secrets and you stay close. Pearl wouldn't be sent on a mission. That wouldn't make sense. Neither would her being able to escape White Diamond, who clearly seems to live in a very far away solar system and isn't very in touch with the others. They didn't have the hyperspace tech back then, so she can't out run her. And why would Pink "adopt" a Pearl who's supposedly "meant" for another diamond? Especially when that Pearl is in a place far away from Earth? That's a waste of resources to go pick up some fancy Pearl when Pink could probably grow a better one on Earth. And about her defect. I think it might be either her strength or her abilities. Why does a gem who is meant to be "eye candy" have the ability to summon a weapon? It makes more sense for Peridot to have one! Or perhaps she's supposed to have strength to deal with pests that mess with her owner, and she just isn't as powerful as she should be. Like Amethyst.
I agree with certain parts of your theory, but she's on Earth because she was under the influence of Rose Quartz and her rebellion. Although, we can't prove anything yet because the Crewniverse hasn't provided us with enough canon backstory for Pearl. Garnet and Amethyst have their backstories already, and we know that Lapis and Peridot are Homeworld Gems that served the Diamonds at some point, so the only past shrouded in mystery is our Pearl's

In retrospect... it makes sense since white is made up of every color on the spectrum. White most certainly fits that detail. She can technically have any and all colors she chooses.
That is true, but I would also argue that Pearl being multicolored might also mean she belonged to white diamond, since white light is a combination of all colors of light on the spectrum. So she could be a white pearl.
After I binged all of Steven universe and was left with Lars on homeworld and a link to earth, I felt so frustrated I couldn't keep watching more and more episodes but hearing your theories and explanations make me feel like I'm watching in between episodes or something. Thank you for this. I mean it'd be cool and all if Pearl did turn out to belong to White Diamond (or Paragon or whatever) but I've had my doubts about that idea from the start. Also, speaking of rainbows, remember her fusion with Rose? Rainbow Quartz?
It makes sense that Pearl would pink after coming into contact with Rose Quartz, since Rose would help Pearl see beauty in herself (and Pearl is fiercely loyal), but would Rose Quartz really ever *own* another gem?
But as far as light is concerned, white isn’t the absence of color, but the inclusion of all of them, so her being the pearl of the White Diamond makes some sense...especially since a pure white character would be rather boring to look at....that and while she has color, it is usually very, very pastel/muted, which, in my mind, mirrors the refraction and brilliance of a super pure white diamond. Regardless, I hope we find something concrete out soon!

Which technically makes her the equivalent of a baroque pearl. She was probably to be shattered, but pink diamond took pity on her and took her to serve in her court, perhaps assigning it to rose quartz, who knows. I believe her color scheme WOULD have been very white or whiteish originally, and that now she's able to produce many colors in her regeneration only because she is a crystal gem and can do whatever the fuck she wants and be herself. I believe that just like she was able to learn to fight, she would have been able to learn to produce different colors in her form to express herself. Also, notice how there are all of the diamond colors in her current form. Pink hair, white skin, blue shirt, yellow star, yellow pants, pinks socks, blue shoes .... I believe that is also intentional, signifying that she belongs to nobody, she's basically "reclaiming" all of the diamond colors.
Our pearl might have been a gift from ALL the diamonds since her color scheme, yellow, blue, white, and most importantly her diamond, pink. Since white took pinks original pearl (volleyball) they wanted to give pink something to make her feel happier.

Shes usually wearing yellow, blue, pink, and or white colors. I think White Diamond is a fusion of all of the diamonds (this is possible because only the same type of gems are allowed to fuse on homeworld). Since Pink Diamond got shattered, thats why we haven't seen White Diamond and it may also be why our Pearl doesn't have a use on homeworld anymore. Maybe she had to escape or they would shatter her. If you're not falling for the outfit colors and you think she would be completely white, she could have made Rose poof her on purpose so she could change what she looks like so the diamonds wouldn't recognize her, or something like that. For her saying, "Not all Pearls know eachother", she could just be lying so she doesnt have to explain to Steven why she knows Yellow Diamonds Pearl because it wouldn't be the right timing when Peridot is ON THE CALL WHERE YELLOW DIAMOND AND THE PEARL COULD HEAR HER and the producers just didn't want to deal with all that on hand. Pearl belonged to white diamond, if you think about it all of the crystal gems belong to each one of the diamonds court ,lapis for blue D,peridot for yellow,rose for pink, and why not pearl for white d it would make complete sense. MY THEORY:
Our Pearl was made by white diamond and was a gift to pink after volleyball was tooken away by white and is now under her control. Every pearl that we've seen has their gem on the same spot as their diamond, For example : Yellow pearl and blue pearl have the exact same gem placement as yellow and blue diamond. Also rebecca said in a interview that pearl orignial owner is pink diamond, not white diamond.

It's classical villain build up. Each antagonistic character that has been showing up in SU has been more threatening than the last, starting with Lapis. And in certain aspects, yes, Peridot was more of a threat than Lapis. Lapis is definitely, no question about it, more powerful (controlling an entire ocean with a cracked gem) than Peridot, however Peridot had a contact point with Homeworld (at least at first,) 5,000 years worth of advanced Gem technology, and a sharp, discerning, logical-oriented mind. And it just built up from there. Wherever White is, whatever she's doing, it's not good.

Izzy McGee that's because they came from jaspers kindergarten. Remember how peridot was comparing amethysts perfect conditions to jaspers subpar ones. She even said "this place could do in a pinch." And went on about how the injector drills were strewn around with barely any decency. All the exit holes were jagged and misshapen with the exception to jaspers. That's why carnelian is so small and skinny is giving lars a run for his money in the 'who looks more like a twig' competition.

I think that Color, and Rarity of gems in real life determine how high or low class gems are.
I imagine white diamond would have all the extremely high class gems, as the paragon (a white diamond AKA diamond) was the most pure, shiny, and clear gem ever found.
Blue diamond has not too high class but powerful gems.

Exactly! And in "The Answer" her outfit was only pink and blue, not like the multicolor ones we've seen her wear since the beginning of the show. I just assumed that was one of her first attemps at "designing" a look for herself that wasn't the one she was expected to use for her owner. And since she probably got poofed a lot during the war and tends to take her time when she can for her reformations, she's become practically an expert in putting different colors into her projected form.

That's what I said! Like in the episode where pearl reforms to her current form, there are silhouettes of all her past forms, and they're all in some way related to the show thus far (all but one) the first one was pearl from the pilot, the third was her 80's from the past, the forth was her form from the beginning of the show, and then her fifth. It's the second one that I think ties her to a diamond. It's pretty basic with a little more hair I think, but it also has that same translucent trill draping down around the shoulders and wrists, the classic frill of the other two diamond pearls

Proof 1: every thing that u just said.
I believe that Pearl doesnt know the other pearls because they are YOUNGER than her. As we all have seen in previous videos, White Diamond is the BOSS when it come to gems. Maybe pearl was made for her, and for some time, she did serve White Diamond, and something must have happened(maybe the other diamonds) that caused white diamond and pearl to part. But this happened with pink diamond already existing. So Rose already existed too. Again, something caused pearl to get away from white diamond, same with Rose. They met each other, let garnet in their little group, amethyst, wars, diamonds and all that. Like if you agree.

I'm 1000% sure Pearl belonged to White Diamond. I've legit thought this through SO many times.
1. Her clothing color scheme is actually really explainable. In real life, Pearls reflect the colors of their surroundings. In SU, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume then, that Pearls reflect the colors of the one she is serving. Pearls are very personal and important to the Diamonds. The other Pearls serving them have their own color scheme matching that of their owners. However, Pearl doesn't belong to anyone anymore. So the multi-colored scheme of Pearl's clothing is a smack in the face to Homeworld's hierarchy. Pearl dedicated her loyalty to Rose Quartz after she left whoever she was serving. Therefore, she changed her colors to match Rose's. Her pink hair, and white skin. I'm sure she was already white, as her gem was white.
2. The other two Pearls know eachother, yes. However when Peridot calls YD and YP shows up and Steven asks her that question, it could simply be because since then, Yellow Diamond has gotten a new Pearl because something happened to her old Pearl. Maybe she disobeyed an order and was shattered? Maybe the Pearl was shattered during the gem war? And during Stevenbomb 5, our Pearl and Blue Pearl never see eachother. They came close in "That Will Be All," however Pearl stood by the door waiting for Ruby, Sapphire, and Holly Blue. And I'm one of the mind that believes that Blue Pearl and our Pearl would have been close. Also, someone down below addressed that Diamonds may have multiple Pearls. This is entirely likely, actually. So maybe Pearl met a Yellow Pearl but not THAT Yellow Pearl.
4. Rose couldn't have had a Pearl. Why? Well, that would totally go against her cause! And she was just a common quartz soldier. In "That Will Be All," we see that there are THOUSANDS of other Rose Quartz soldiers, made by Pink Diamond. All in bubbles, however they exist. Why would a common Quartz soldier be given a Pearl? Jasper is known as the "Ultimate Quartz" and SHE didn't even have a Pearl. If she did, Jasper would have had her with her when she returned to Earth. But the only Pearl on there was OUR Pearl.
5. Some people think that Pearl served no Gem at all because she's "defective" because of her oblong-shaped gem. However, her gem actually changes shape, it really depends on who drew her out in that particular episode. And that was literally proven wrong when Pearl literally said, "When I still served..." stopped, looked away, and said "Homeworld." So that's completely out.
6. ANd then there's the fact that Jasper called her a defective Pearl in "The Return." Yeah, that happened alright, however I'm pretty sure Jasper called her a "defective Pearl" because Pearls are made to sit tall, look pretty, and be completely loyal to who they serve. And here is a Pearl with NO owner. Jasper's got a very black-and-white mindset. So to her, Pearl-Owner=Defective.
7. There's also the space suit having a Pink Diamond on it. Yeah, that really stumped me, I'll be honest. HOWEVER, I thought this one out. Pearl said she hasn't left space in thousands of years in that one episode where she builds the ship and tries to take Steven in space. Well, she would have arrived with her diamond. Yes, Earth was Pink's planet, however other diamonds visited that place, as well. Blue visited, so I'm sure the others did, as well. She wouldn't have really needed that space suit because well, why? She never went into space. And I think that was more of a decorative thing. None of the other gems have ever worn a special suit. And Pearl hasn't worn it since. Because it had been thousands of years, she hadn't really manipulated that outfit a whole lot. She had also spent all those years loyal and dedicated to Rose. Therefore, her stamp of loyalty would have changed, even in just in color. I'm sure if she ever wears it again, it'll change. Especially if she poofs between now and then.
8. As far as what happened to Pink Pearl, you have to remember that these Pearls follow their diamonds nearly everywhere. Therefore, they have secrets and know things that if they belonged to someone else, the new owner could easily get it out of them. This could prove dangerous to the diamonds, especially with how shady they are about certain things. Therefore, I think it's standard protocol to shatter the Pearl after their owner has been shattered. So I'm sure Pink Pearl is also shattered.

So I think that Pearl was White Diamond (or one of White Diamond's) own pearl(s). I say there might be multiple because of the fact that White Diamond seems to be the leader of the Diamonds, which you can find out more about in Cartoon Universe's video, "Is White Diamond Corrupted?" (Sorry, i don't have a link) Anyways, I think Pearl was White Diamond's because of her placement of her gem. White Diamond's gem was/is on her forehead, and Pearl's gem is on her forehead. Yes, I know thats dumb like "Katie come on just because someone has a similarly placed gem doesnt make them the same!" Now now calm yourself lets just lookie here. Look at Pearl herself, her physical form. She has pale white skin and light hair. She supposedly was wearing shorts and a skirt when she still served Home World, because in some episodes, they showed what she looked like when Steven wasn't around. White Diamond seems to have some sort of dress-like thing or ribbon on her, if you look at the mural in the Moon Base. This might just be a design choice or representation of colonies behind her, but it looks a little bit like she has a train or ribbon or something similar. After regenerating, Pearl has a ribbon around her waist that trails behind her, but then again that was while Steven was alive and she wasn't serving Home World.

Even though this video is super old I have a take on this as well. I think White, Blue and Yellow Diamond came together to form Our Pearl for Pink after her outburst causing Pink Pearl to be controlled by White Diamond. It would explain why she has all the colors of the Diamonds in her original state (Seen in The Steven Universe Movie). By all the Diamonds creating our Pearl, it would make sense that she has a deeper form of personality that isn’t just based on her Original Diamond like we see with Blue, Yellow and Pink Pearl.😊

Well if you look at the Amethysts you'll notice they don't have the exact same size gem either.
I think it's normal that not all of them have the same size gem due to placement. Like, Jasper has a gem on the place where her nose should be, shaped diamond-ish while Skinny Jasper her gem is round and on the belly button.
GClumps Amethyst are soldiers of a lower class. Pearls are made for high class authorities. If a gem were made for someone important, perfection would be key. But Amethyst and even Rubies are said to be disposable and not worth anything meaning they're gem placement wouldn't matter unlike a Pearl. So yeah, Pearl's oval gem could be her defect.
Or maybe the round ones are made for diamonds and the oval ones are for other high ranked gems and the miss-shaped ones are just regular gems

I like this theory! Steven universe has long been about acceptance, and for pearl to be rejected by the diamonds only to be accepted by rose quartz, it would give her a good reason to betray homeworld in the first place!

Multiple points in this video were invalid. Pearl was originally mostly colourless, and her current colour scheme is probably due to her part in the rebellion; she doesn't want to just be a pearl. I believe that she doesn't know Yellow Pearl because it's possible Yellow Pearl was created/used after the rebellion. Holly Blue Agate might have also been created post-rebellion, or even during the rebellion. Even if she wasn't, she probably wasn't going to point out the uniqueness of Pearl out of fear and respect for Sapphire. She may not have even noticed. Also, it is entirely possible that she believed that Sapphire intended for her to look like that. Also, Pearl may have been 'defective' in another way- as people have pointed out, her gem is more ovular instead of circular. This could've still resulted in Rose adopting her as her own. I think her originally being White Diamond's, if only for a short while, is most likely. Her gem placement and original colour scheme are too close for her to be anyone else's.
AmyGamerGal I agree with you on many points, but I’d like to ad one that many people have over looked. The reason why Holly Blue Agate doesn’t recognize Pearl.
The simple reason why Holly Blue doesn’t recognize Pearl is because in her estimation, Pearl is below her notice...that is until she isn’t performing her “duties” like she “should.”
In historical context, aristocratic people wouldn’t take much notice of lower class/servant class individuals, especially if the gem caste system is as we think it to be. They don’t even bother giving common rubies separate identifiers. Only rare, aristocratic gems have unique designations, so It wouldn’t be beyond belief that Holly didn’t recognize Pearl, because as far as she is concerned, pearls are only noticed if they are defective! And if Pearl was White Diamond’s (or if my naming scheme hunch is right, Diamond’s) personal pearl, she would have been the paragon of what a pearl should be....until she wasn’t...and she may not be recognizable in her current form from what she was under her service to Diamond.
I also think her naming scheme is a clue. Blue Diamond has Blue Pearl. Yellow Diamond has Yellow Pearl, one would assume that Pink Diamond would have had a Pink Pearl. But if you consider normal naming schemes for precious gems in our world, and diamond are by default white, as are pearls, it would be a huge hint that Pearl is just referred to as Pearl, not Rainbow, Lavender, or any of the other common colors that pearls come in...and a high quality natural Akoya white pearl isn’t pure white. It has an iridescent quality containing the entire rainbow spectrum...which one could logically assume would be a trait of Diamond herself...

Pearl didn’t really shatter pink diamond, pink diamond swallowed fake shards. Then when pearl morphed into rose quartz she poofed her she didn’t shatter her. That’s why rose quartz was able to some to Earth with pearl and garnet and amethyst. That’s how Steven was able to be made.
She could be White Diamond's because her gem is on the same location as White Diamond and all the pearls have their gems on the same place as their diamonds.

When you think about it, Pearl DID know about the Diamond base and its location, so, it is very likely she belonged to a Diamond, and I also think she wasn't defective, because in "Bubbled" when Garnet explained why the Rebellion started in the first place she explained "So Amethyst could be herself, so Pearl could be free, for me to be together, for you to exist." Don't you think if Pearl was defective, she's would have the same explanation as Amethyst? Also, in "It Could've Been Great" when Peridot found the unique stone, and when she moved her hands, nothing happened, until Pearl stepped on it, which resulted in it turning white, if she was meant for Pink Diamond, I really think the step would have glowed pink. But anyway, that's just my theory.

In the episode as you can see Pearl's owner was Pink Diamond (Rose Quartz) and while Pink Pearl's owner was White Diamond but Pink Pearl changed into White somehow because she was mind-controlled by White Diamond, So in that case I would thought that White Diamond gave her old pearl to Pink Diamond or maybe they just switched pearls.

If she was made for White Diamond, why is she on Earth? A Diamond's Pearl is like a right hand man, you tell them your secrets and you stay close. Pearl wouldn't be sent on a mission. That wouldn't make sense. Neither would her being able to escape White Diamond, who clearly seems to live in a very far away solar system and isn't very in touch with the others. They didn't have the hyperspace tech back then, so she can't out run her. And why would Pink "adopt" a Pearl who's supposedly "meant" for another diamond? Especially when that Pearl is in a place far away from Earth? That's a waste of resources to go pick up some fancy Pearl when Pink could probably grow a better one on Earth. And about her defect. I think it might be either her strength or her abilities. Why does a gem who is meant to be "eye candy" have the ability to summon a weapon? It makes more sense for Peridot to have one! Or perhaps she's supposed to have strength to deal with pests that mess with her owner, and she just isn't as powerful as she should be. Like Amethyst.
I agree with certain parts of your theory, but she's on Earth because she was under the influence of Rose Quartz and her rebellion. Although, we can't prove anything yet because the Crewniverse hasn't provided us with enough canon backstory for Pearl. Garnet and Amethyst have their backstories already, and we know that Lapis and Peridot are Homeworld Gems that served the Diamonds at some point, so the only past shrouded in mystery is our Pearl's

In retrospect... it makes sense since white is made up of every color on the spectrum. White most certainly fits that detail. She can technically have any and all colors she chooses.
That is true, but I would also argue that Pearl being multicolored might also mean she belonged to white diamond, since white light is a combination of all colors of light on the spectrum. So she could be a white pearl.
After I binged all of Steven universe and was left with Lars on homeworld and a link to earth, I felt so frustrated I couldn't keep watching more and more episodes but hearing your theories and explanations make me feel like I'm watching in between episodes or something. But as far as light is concerned, white isn’t the absence of color, but the inclusion of all of them, so her being the pearl of the White Diamond makes some sense...especially since a pure white character would be rather boring to look at....that and while she has color, it is usually very, very pastel/muted, which, in my mind, mirrors the refraction and brilliance of a super pure white diamond.
Regardless, I hope we find something concrete out soon!

I think she was made for white diamond, or at least to belong to white diamond's court, but came out defective, not because of the color scheme, but because her gem is oval, not round. Which technically makes her the equivalent of a baroque pearl.
She was probably to be shattered, but pink diamond took pity on her and took her to serve in her court, perhaps assigning it to rose quartz, who knows. I believe her color scheme WOULD have been very white or whiteish originally, and that now she's able to produce many colors in her regeneration only because she is a crystal gem and can do whatever the fuck she wants and be herself. I believe that just like she was able to learn to fight, she would have been able to learn to produce different colors in her form to express herself.
Also, notice how there are all of the diamond colors in her current form. Pink hair, white skin, blue shirt, yellow star, yellow pants, pinks socks, blue shoes .... I believe that is also intentional, signifying that she belongs to nobody, she's basically "reclaiming" all of the diamond colors.
Our pearl might have been a gift from ALL the diamonds since her color scheme, yellow, blue, white, and most importantly her diamond, pink. Since white took pinks original pearl (volleyball) they wanted to give pink something to make her feel happier.

Heres a random theory that I made that needs to spread around, I hope I got your attention.
I think our Pearl is White Diamonds Pearl. Shes usually wearing yellow, blue, pink, and or white colors. I think White Diamond is a fusion of all of the diamonds (this is possible because only the same type of gems are allowed to fuse on homeworld). Since Pink Diamond got shattered, thats why we haven't seen White Diamond and it may also be why our Pearl doesn't have a use on homeworld anymore. Maybe she had to escape or they would shatter her. If you're not falling for the outfit colors and you think she would be completely white, she could have made Rose poof her on purpose so she could change what she looks like so the diamonds wouldn't recognize her, or something like that. For her saying, "Not all Pearls know eachother", she could just be lying so she doesnt have to explain to Steven why she knows Yellow Diamonds Pearl because it wouldn't be the right timing when Peridot is ON THE CALL WHERE YELLOW DIAMOND AND THE PEARL COULD HEAR HER and the producers just didn't want to deal with all that on hand. Pearls are made to serve higher accomplished gems AND our Pearl HAS to be special, otherwise, why is she a main character?
