More like their individual 'self' essentially dies and is reset to the generic template that they deviated from. The point of the Rejuvenator is to strip Gems of the 'flaws' that make them unique, reducing them to the being same as the others. This makes the device being a scythe all the more fitting, as it 'kills' Gems by wiping away everything that makes them people.
I like to think the objects spinel had (the rejuvenator and injector) were both defective, would explain how earth survived receiving the poison and how the gems could remember everything with little information and vague feelings.

Ok, so I used to be a pretty big supporter of this theory myself, however with all the evidence recently provided it would seem that simply is just not the case. but what does seem to be the case is that although our Pearl may not have directly served under white diamond, that she may have been Cut by her personally, White hoping Pink would have the absolute most professional experience with the Pearl she made for her (though obviously failed). This still serves as an explanation as to why our Pearl seems to be the most knowledgeable when it comes to white, because aside from Pink, White was the first of 2 diamonds she was exposed to.

Don't forget about the color schemes. Pink Diamonds original Pearl was pink, Blue Diamond's is blue, and Yellow's is yellow. But in White Diamonds case she can create her Pearl in any color which would explain why Pearl is multicolored. Either that or all four diamonds chipped in to create that Pearl.

when I copied my files for the video we got 'copy' then '(2)' not a '(1)'. All things considered, I think the show just didn't go for 100% accuracy, especially since different OS' operate differently.

I believe that when Pearls boot up, they can choose their gem placement based on their customization settings. If you tell the pearl what gem you are and your gem placement, she will likely mimic that to be all that more like the owner. Default settings places the gem on the forehead, because white diamond oversees all, and they have a multicolor pallet, to represent the other diamonds. But Yellow and Blue's Pearls aren't multicolor, suggesting that they have customizations on them. Yet, if our Pearl was rejuvenated, why not also rejuvenate Pink Pearl? Why would White settle for bleaching her instead of fully resetting her and customizing her to her liking? Did she expect to give Pink her Pearl back?

Our Pearl was made for pink, special programed to teach pink how to run a planet. Then the gem war came it would make sense for the rejuvenator to exist, even if it wasn’t a popular weapon choice they should have been there, our Pearl put her life on the line for Pink/Rose so jumping out of nowhere and getting poof would make sense.
After all the first era was the most controlling, and home world might have wanted to bring back theses gems and make them fight against what they were fighting for.

No, this isn’t true. Rebecca sugar confirmed that pearl wasn’t whites pearl she was just made for pink specifically.
Also every pearl is the color of their diamond, our pearl however has white, yellow, blue, and pink. Going back to how white diamond said she is all of the colors.

So the first iteration when she was first created would be without a parenthesed number, the SECOND iteration she’d then be (1), third (2), and FOURTH (Spinel hitting her) would be (3). Pearl was on her third iteration when given to Pink Diamond, then according to theory, her second for White D, and who knows about her first owner, White or otherwise.
Maybe she was rejuvenated while being White's pearl. If you ever seen Star Wars, there's a droid named C-3PO. And during the series, he gets his memory wiped because he's simply carrying too many secrets and they can't risk anyone getting those secrets. So maybe something like that happened to Pearl where she had so much information, and something significant happened so White went like, "Yeah, no one can find out about this." And thus erasing Pearl's memory so there is no risk of the secret getting out.

Rebecca confirmed that the pearl was never of White's, she has the similar place of her gem like White because in the movie when she reformed herself in the holographic shell Greg could set her up but left in default. So that means when Pink won pearl she wanted to change to not be the same as the old one.
Consider that Rebecca Sugar has also said that Rose Quartz wasn’t Pink Diamond. She lies to keep surprises. Rebecca also said “Our Pearl” has never been owned by White Diamond. Why would she specify that?
If Pearl has potentially been booted 3 separate times, the first time would be when White Diamond owned her, and thus she wouldn’t be “Our Pearl” because she’d be White pearl. The second time when she was given to Pink Diamond, and finally the third time in the movie.
There's an interesting piece of evidence around 3:12. As pearl is reforming you can see her flash to the form she had for the pilot episode. She might still be whites pearl, or the (3) could just be a reference to her character being redesigned.
She also goes through those forms while dancing around the silhouette of rose in 'independent together' and also the first time she reforms in 'steven the sword fighter'. It is implied that those pilot designs are real forms she took between the rebellion and her 80s schtick.
Yes! This was bothering me so much! Why does our Pearl not respond to White despite having her gem placed on the same place, Pink Pearl existing, and no other White Pearl mentioned? This would explain everything that was bothering me. It's a bit sad she lost all those memories, but it's probably for the best, as I'm sure being White's Pearl is bound to be traumatic.

A pearl's personality seems to emulate their diamonds/ gems.
Yellow pearl has the authority of her diamond.

It doesn’t mean she has to be rejuvenated. Remember, she originally belonged to white diamond. That was reboot 1, Reboot 2 was when she was given to Pink Diamond, reboot 3 was Greg.

everyone is talking about how our pearl must have been white diamond's pearl, I don't think that's the case. as shown in the episode "volleyball" in steven universe future we can see that only the four diamonds could activate the narc reef and maybe request a pearl, my theory is that after taking pink diamond's pearl, white went ahead and made her a pearl that goes by her standards, one that is going to serve pink diamond not entertain her, which obviously backfired.
I think that the reason Rebecca said “OUR pearl never belonged to white diamond” which means that she may have still belonged white, but got rebooted, and never regained her memory. It was also confirmed white was involved in her creation but doesn’t belong to her”

A belief I don't hold until the series is over and I know for sure that the gaping plot holes are their incompetence. To be fair, it does feel like some things are an after thought, and some things need answers now rather than later, especially ones that are actually IN THE SHOW. I have reduced interest because of these problems, but like the show nonetheless.

Wait! If Pearl was rejuvinated before and did belong to White, wouldn’t she have remembered being White Diamond’s pearl? She never mentioned belonging to White Diamond in the movie or future. She never gave any indication that she belonged to white, and it was never confirmed.
In my opinion/theory, pearls were treated more as one of the most luxurious item or servants to have because of how (they programmed or made to be) loyally dedicated for their master, like very obidient well programmed robot a.i. or well breed domesticated human servant.
The number parentheses are to determinate the limit of reboots to prevent a malfunction, things can't really forever be used and reseted over and over, it'll break eventually.
Pearls irl don't come out as perfect spheres which is why they are refined (or breeded clams if that exist?) to suit one's liking. And such process is time consuming.

I persinally noticed all these little things and already knew about all this ,It makes sense but ,It means that ,Pearl ,can actually remember about her past boots according ti the movies ,We just need a little hint and she may remember important infos about White ,maybe even about the Diamond's creator!
Small theory I always had was she was just a gift from blue. Like just a pearl in her court. I mainly draw this from how she blushes blue and keeps that color in her scheme alot. As most her court tends to do. But this makes alot of sense too!
This maybe an unnecessary detail, but wouldn't placement & colour decided by production model & creator not ownership. If that was the case then our Pearl may be made at the dawn of the gem empire making her extremely old & maybe one of the first Pearls.

Technically, when you copy something, sometimes it gets a parenthesis 1, so she could have ben rebooted 4 times.
I think Pearl has been rebooted 3 times in total, first for Blue then Pink and in the movie, I think White mad her for the other diamonds to guide and after a while, she's replaced by the matching pearls, this will explain why her dress is made of the 3 diamond colors

Some people might understand me some might not but in macOS specifically there’s a bootx64 file to boot the os specifically in system/library/core services and im guessing that the boot file for pearl is located in /system/ and clearly there are 2 other files im pretty sure that it’s possible to somehow get those old memories out of her..

The Pearl *we know* never did. If Rebecca considers first-boot Pearl a different person from our Pearl, then it would technically still be true. The crewniverse loves using Exact Words statements to avoid spoilers like this. Remember Ian’s “A Rose Quartz is a Quartz” statement if people asked if Rose was Pink Diamond?

IT Guy here. A (3) would actually indicate a 4th iteration. If you start out with "filename.txt" and copy it twice, you get "filename (1).txt" and "filename (2).txt". You would have to make a 3rd copy or 4th file to get to "filename (3).txt".
Also, the rejuvenater's effects are only temporary.

I think the first default might've been when she was born and maybe they reset her when she gets an owner so they can customize them. I mean, how are pearls born? Do they come out fully formed like other gems or are they just stones until they get claimed?
They come in shells and create a form until you customize them
It makes perfect sense the way that the position of our pearl and white's pearl the position of our pearl's pearl is on her forehead and white's pearl's pearl is just like where pink diamond's diamond is, the reason why white diamond possessed Pink's pearl cause maybe she and our pearl is how we know rn got a little fight and suddenly white kind of poof our pearl, then blue and yellow take care of white's pearl and give the pearl to pink after white possessed Pink's original pearl.

Another piece of evidence is that if Pearl originally belonged to White, than Pearl should be white along with her (taking the evidence that the other Pearls match their Diamonds' colours). And surprise! She is. While on the other han- I mean Pearl, she is pink! What?
She's not been rejuvinated before the movie as she has no past memories. She is obviously custom like Spinel so she must be the 3rd version of a custom pearl and the first they got right. It's just that the other 3 diamonds worked to make her and white must have chosen the gem placement. Gems are technology after all.

a program wouldn't copy files every time it boots, that's just inefficient in every conceivable way, and gems don't exactly do inefficient. It'd make more sense that this is the fourth (because code starts with 0) TYPE of boot, say... for the sake of example 0 to Blue, 1 to Yellow, 2 to Pink, and 3 for default, after non-diamonds started receiving pearls
This can be easily debated by including the pilot.
She might be first booted (debuted) on the pilot episode
Then get rebooted (redesigned, reformed) on the official series
Then get rebooted again when she was rejuvenated by Spinel.
I think that this could be it for these reasons
1-design-she is multicolored, the reason white is white is because she doesn’t want to express emotion/ color cause she needs to be “perfect” pearls are mean tot represent their diamonds, pearl is balanced in emotions and doesn’t have this “perfect” vision so she isn’t white rather all her emotions this also explains the location of her pearl which is also on her forehead.
2-personality-Pearl like things perfect, not in the same way as white but organized
3- reason- since pink pearl was built to be like pink she was just as fun and mischievous, this caused problems to pink pearl was taken away as to not cause more trouble. In her place she put her pool to watch over her since she thought that rather than a pearl that similar to her, she should have one that could take care of her.There was never a mention of an original white pearl so it all fits into place

I don't think the (3) means she was rebooted twice, I think it means 3rd "friend". First there was Pink Pearl, then there was Spinel who, when rebooted, immediately said Steven was her "Best Friend" without knowing anything about him (Other than he might be Pink Diamond). If you rank them on a Mohs scale with diamonds and sapphires at the top, a spinel (8) is significantly higher than a pearl (2). I think White Diamond "upgraded" Pink's friend from a low-class Pearl to a custom-made "flawless" Spinel that could match the childishness they saw in Pink. Then when Pink abandoned Spinel, she was given a new "grown-up" Pearl. Our Pearl is Pink's 3rd "friend"
At least the "default setting" explains why she has all four Diamond colors instead of being mono-chrome like Pink, Blue, and Yellow Pearl. I think Pink Diamond was tired of having "custom friends" so left Our Pearl in default mode for something new. The default setting could involve priority to White Diamond's authority regarding the gem placement, since she ranks higher than the other three. We know Gems can move their gems around so I bet if Our Pearl was reset again and programmed with a Blue or Yellow setting, he gem would move to reflect that.

In the episode when pearl reforms and Steven sings the pearls back song while reforming we see pearl go through 3 forms 2 of which we know the 2nd being 80s pearl and the 3rd being that current pearl but the first form is unknown perhaps this was the form she took for white ( you put the scene in your vid btw)

That's what I thought when I first saw Pink Pearl, but apparently Rebecca already said that our Pearl never belonged to White
But I never saw when or where she said that, though. And to me, it makes sense, if you consider the placement of her gem.
I agree with you because Pearl's gem is the same exact placement of white diamonds and the one that white diamond had before was really pink diamonds and she took it from pink diamond because her eye cracked and pink Pearl's gem has the same exact placement of pink diamond

greg didn't customize pearl, so pearl was put in default settings, so she won't be just one color like the other pearls. this explaines why pearl has all the colors. Maybe pink diamond doesn't want to remind herself of her last pearl, pink pearl, too much, so she put in the default settings instead of customizing her.

Wait this makes a lot of sense. But at the same time. I remember reading somewhere that pearl was customized. Hence her design but idk. I wish it got expanded on.

I have a better theory: so basically in the boot peat thing it shows that she has been rebooted twice, but maybe not rebooted but pink diamond had pink pearl before our pearl was made and pink pearl was encouraging pink diamonds childness and stuff so the other diamonds got rid of her. Instead they made our pear, a more motherly type to discourage the childish pink diamond. This is why pearl is only white yellow and blue in colors. So the boot song shows in the title that there was more than one pearl.

this maybe a contradiction but i like challenging youtubers: what if the reboot isn’t based on how many times pearl was rejuvenated, but how many people have actually owned her, do you think that she could have counted rose quarts as one of her person making her one of her owners and greg was her third one?
