Between seasons 2 to 3 I feel as pro finally put her past behind her and looked towards the future third season. It showed me she was caring a lot more than she was willing to share
It doesn’t surprise me. Pearl was made for rose. She dedicated her entire life to her and put her entire self worth into her and was willing to do anything to keep it. She still tried to find rose inside Steven, as she literally attempted to remove Steven’s gem from him when he was a baby. Pearl was always the darkest crystal gem of them all who initially came off as someone who was the most “pure” at the beginning of the show.
Have you ever seen Young Justice? You just reminded me of a particular episode where Artemis and Zatanna are stalked by a sword-wielding psychopath who calls himself Harm. Harm never acknowledges them as people, only ever referring to them both as “it” and he always refers to himself in the third person. By the final act we eventually find out his sword ‘could only be wielded by one with a pure heart’, so in order for him to become pure of heart he got rid of the only thing he ever loved … which just happened to be his younger sister (Greta), who spends to episode helping the two heroes dodge her demented brother (as an extra creepy she only repeats the word ‘secret’ over and over again). Only at the end when confronted with his actions at Greta’s grave, and her finally appearing to him, he breaks for a second yelling “Harm isn’t sorry! *I’m* not!” remember he’s only referred to himself in third person to this point. Anyway Greta takes something out of his chest and the sword shuts down, apparently him showing even a slither of remorse meant he was no longer pure of heart and the sword rejected him, leading to the heroes defeating him and Greta’s spirit moving on. I think this was an eery but interesting take on the ‘pure of heart’ trope: because I think in this instance it meant treating all things equally, Harm was killing everyone regardless of who they were or how he felt about them … I’m still not entirely sure, I’d need to rewatch it. Thanks for making me relive the chills 😅😅😅
Steven Universe could have been a really good family-accessible Adult Swim series, rather than a kids' show constantly fighting to get the more thoughtful topics into subtext. I wish it got some of the leeway Samurai Jack had in its general CN run.
She’s my favorite character because she truly shows how much gem culture was hard to get out of. She couldn’t break her diamond’s last order’s despite her desire to tell Steven. Thats why she had to show steven She’s not a good person when she obsesses over people like Rose/PD and over homereorld, but she’s not a bad person because she learned to love Steven and move on from Rose Quartz
It makes a lot of sense for her though, she was made to serve her diamond, so during this time, she’s set in her own ways like the diamonds, so Rose *inevitably was going to find someone other than pearl.* That’s why pearl struggled the most with rose, because she’s the one that told Pearl to never _speak_ of her past, and why pearl struggled the most to develop as a character
the only times she shape shifted she turned into the entire universe family. mother, father, then son. they really do define her entire being, or at least, defined.
That's what it is to be a Pearl, though. The tragedy of Pearl's life is, as much as she talks about how you can be anything on Earth, she's stuck with her Pearl programming.
I thought Amethyst shapeshifting into Rose Quartz before Steven sees Amethyst’s “Rose Quartz” form is surprising, but Pearl shapeshifting into Greg for Rose?! Goodness gracious, that’s another piece of proof that Pearl is feeling desperate at this point…

Yeah, I can see how this didn't get past the concept stage. Of course they had a hard enough time getting the gay couples on screen.

bro can we not forget amethyst fucking shapeshifted into his dead lover in maximum capacity, and from dialogue it seems like she did it often back "in the day"
I thought they confirmed already it was because of Amethyst. It's clear Amethyst and Greg were flings in that episode were they were watching Little Butler together. As a kid it goes over our heads, but as an adult we get more hints as to what they did (like the cat carrier) beyond just watching the show. They probably helped each other cope after Rose's passing. oh. my. god... This makes what amythest did too greg so much worse...She learned that idea...FROM PEARL. does garnet even know what the 2 of them did!!?!!?
I hope that Garnet didn't know about it but then again with her future sight it is also likely she knew about it even before it happend So now there's the question... Did Garnet try to prevent it from happening?
@@MPbmfm She's not omniscient. She has to actively try to see the future and it seems unlikely she would be doing that about a private moment between Rose and Pearl.
@@shadenox8164 garnet never looked into rose and we know this from when sapphire learns of rose's identity as pink diamond, exclaiming, "But I never looked into her, I trusted her... I let her make fools of us all!"
This raises an Interesting point....while Pink WAS chiefly responsible for the bad things that came out of her attempts to liberate the earth, she didn't really act alone, Pearl had agency of her own and wanted to liberate the earth and the gems (and herself and Pink) just as Badly, she was never a slave to Pink because Pink was the only Diamond who KNEW her gems deserved their own Agency, and She was giving Pearl the ability to express that agency, cause it's all she wanted for her gems, for them to be able to make choices without her
I don't think it was cancelled for being too dark. Amethyst taking the form of a dead character was way darker. Adding the implication of human sx is your own presumption which I don't really like. The most probable reason it was not included was that it already happened with Amethyst, so it would be redundant to do a similar scene for Pearl. It's way better for Pearl to be consistent with her traumas of shapeshifting.
I like to think not about the human intimacy but more so that Pearl felt likes he was being replaced by a newer shinier model. It's has so many things about Pearl's personality around that time and her emotional attachment to pink rose. It's dark yes but incredibly traumatizing
I wonder if this got changed into Amethyst's Rose shapeshift scene instead, or if the two scenes would have been in the show together. Maybe Pearl could have seen it and been reminded of what she did
There is something I always wonder about this show. What would have happened if rose quartz did not disappear when Steven was born? Would she have been a good mother
Steven wouldn't be the same person, and wouldn't be half Gem, at best he'd be a clone of Greg manufactured inside of Rose, maybe with a different gene presentation, so more of a younger alternate Greg than a child of Greg and Rose.
@@Ruby2PNot really they used to have Naruto on cartoon Network like 10 years ago so they could have had this lol Edit: I don't think it was sexual in context
Honestly gay relationships are just nor-al lol It's child friendly just like straight ones. But when intercourse is -entioned in general really. That's when it ain't for kids lol
You know, if some variation of this idea had managed to make it into the show. I think more people would realize that a romantic relationship between Pearl and Pink Diamond wouldn’t have been any kind of healthy 😅
The fact that both Amethyst and Pearl shapeshifted and made both Rose and Greg uncomfortable is wild. Makes me think where Amethyst got the idea considering she was still kinda like a child and therefore impressionable
genuinely asking... How ?? This had nothing to do with rose. This was pearl being desperate and trying to win her over. If anything that makes her look good for not wanting pearl to do this
@@theomeletteguy I think the assumption that the second line Rose said was telling Pearl they could do, whatever it was Pearl wanted to do as Greg (maybe something intimate) but only if Pearl turned back to normal that is the problem. Her and Greg were together at the time so she was basically agreeing to cheating on Greg with Pearl if Pearl turned back to normal. While nice she didn’t want Pearl to pretend to be Greg, still bad for being okay with cheating on the person she’s with. That’s probably why the original commenter said that about Rose/Pink
Would make sense, she hurt somebody from her own intent. The first time was swaying her to, but this second time was the cherry on the cake to never shapeshift again!
I'd love a TV-14 revamp of SU and a TV-14 spin off where Steven is exploring himself in college and finding out what he wants to do gem related or not. I'd also love a rocky lover story with him and Connie with the two of them finding themselves and maybe seeing other ppl
That art used in the thumbnail says it all. The video narrates what we need to understand about pearl (or at least hypothesize about it)... It's not a surprise but definitely fits into the story development of Pearl. I didn't realize how deep shapeshifting was in her story and this part would've made me realize it... Like damn..
This is considered “r@pe by fraud”, and would have been crossing a line for Pearl. If this happened, especially with the fusion as a relationship metaphor, I would have never forgiven her
I'm seeing a lot of comments and honestly I'm really surprised that people are surprised about Pearl doing such a thing turning into Greg to me this just feels like the natural conclusion. The way Pearl has shown obsession over rose quartz to me this isn't surprising at for all this kind of proven that she isn't always morally great and for her to do something like this yeah I don't really understand why people find the surprising
What is interesting to me is that line from Rose really begs the big question, did Rose change from who she was as Pink? It is constantly argued we saw her growth in reverse, but things like Bismuth being sealed away for an eternity matching what happened to Spinel or other such parallels has always made it questionable if she actually grew. If this episode wasn't cut we'd have a clearer picture of her. How Rose handled something like this would show her growth or lack of it incredibly well in theory.
If the question is Pink before she hurt her first Pearl, yes absolutely. She learned a lot of wrong lessons from that. If the question is Pink after, I don’t know. I think so. Her mind was so opened by everything she decided to fight for!
Haven't watched a Steven universe video in years, this took me back to being a kid for sure. Thanks for the epic analysis of pearl, it makes so much sense!
Rebecca _really_ should've pitched Steven Universe to Adult Swim instead of Cartoon Network because this is a terrifyingly wonderful idea. She doesn't have to go full yandere like she looks in the thumbnail, but seeing this interaction play out would've been one of those watershed moments that explores toxic codependent behavior at its most visceral and realistic. Pearl trying to recreate Greg and Rose's dance, Rose thinking it's sort of cute that Pearl is this jealous of Greg before turning around and seeing Pearl having shapeshifted into him. Hell, if this happened after Steven's proposal to Connie make it even darker by having Pearl accidentally slip and address Rose as "My Diamond". It could even be a catalyst for Pink to have a brief moment of self-reflection and see how her actions have hurt the one person closest to her... to add even more layers to this, have Pink Pearl's cracks creep over Pearl's face in a brief second of pure psychological horror for Rose in the flashback. Brining it back into the present, this could even make Steven look uncomfortable as it makes him remember when Amethyst transformed into Rose. Pearl can try and redress the memory as being able to overcome and let go of the past without realizing her confession is going to be one of the reasons Steven decides to leave Beach City.
so we got amethyst turned into rose to keep Greg to herself as poorly planned, but since amethyst did it as joke to far. Unfortunately pearls shaping of Greg was pretty low. as that makes to episodes such as Chile tide where talked about running away, Single Pink Rose song darker.
Wow...This deleted concept definitely solidified Pearl as my favourite Steven Universe character. The pain and desperation of forever chasing something/someone unattainable...
No wonder she felt funny about shape shifting. She caused pain to them posing as Rose in one episode and Greg (in this unseen one) so I can understand why she wouldnt want to anymore bc of bad memories attached. Also in posing as rose to shatter pink, that is traumatic enough. The guilt she carried especially as Steven grew up was massive. It all came out in a single pale rose, the complex trauma. Her fantasies and delusions opened the door to everything basically, so she blamed herself for every single thing that happened since becoming pinks pearl. Probably believing she didnt deserve happiness ever again. So much devastation behind her daydreams... this is what happens to people pleasers. They get emotional when things go wrong and spiral and make choices that are desperate rather than thinking about the outcome, then when it all inevitably falls apart, its a disaster.
i really do appreciate you coming back to the steven universe content. it's so nostalgic and im glad you're enjoying it as much as i'm enjoying watching :)
Pearl had MAJOR dependency issues. And Tise never really helped her deal eith it. Because Rise couldn't lose anyone else, so she kept Pearl close. After seeing Pearl be rejuvinated, we can tell she wasn't just MADE for Pink. She inprinted on her. Her inhealthy attatchment was made part of her being from the first moment she emerged.
Also Steven and Connie fusing she called it “inappropriate and told them to unfuse” I’m not surprised if she see’s Connie in Greg and of course Rose in Steven and was shocked a human can fuse with a gem probably immediately thought what if Greg fuse with Rose.
Man… you have no idea how surreal it feels to be seeing SU videos again Stirs up memories from years ago where I would literally stop working cuz a new episode dropped, and i’d take my break then and there to see it before looking for vids like these
I knew pearl was downbad for rose, but this is one of the most dark downbad moments I have ever seen in my entire life. I’m glad that she’s doing better now at the very least. 😔
This kind of reminds me of when amethyst turned into Steven’s mom in the episode that had her and Steven cleaning out Greg universes garage only this is somehow even more messed up
Everyone were raging at Amethyst for turning into Rose in front of Greg, calling her the worst But this proving Pearl could ispire her to do such things! So, Amethyst is not the worst one here
it'd be fun to see the flash back fully animated, makes me kinda wish they'd make something like Steven Alternate Universe and have that be the adult oriented show, just a complete remaster of the show but with the freedom to be more serious and cover plot lines that got brushed over or wouldn't be at all possible in the original show. This makes what amythest did too greg so much worse...She learned that idea...FROM PEARL.
does garnet even know what the 2 of them did!!?!!?
Was this even confirmed
I hope that Garnet didn't know about it but then again with her future sight it is also likely she knew about it even before it happend
So now there's the question... Did Garnet try to prevent it from happening?
@@MPbmfm She's not omniscient. She has to actively try to see the future and it seems unlikely she would be doing that about a private moment between Rose and Pearl.
Yeah. The cycle of abuse has to continue somewhere...
It's dark yes but incredibly traumatizing
also feels out of character for pearl. she's obsessed, but not this obsessed.
I wonder if this got changed into Amethyst's Rose shapeshift scene instead, or if the two scenes would have been in the show together. Maybe Pearl could have seen it and been reminded of what she did
I really like the character Connie
As if Steven nearly dying by fast aging himself wasn’t dark enough
There is something I always wonder about this show. What would have happened if rose quartz did not disappear when Steven was born? Would she have been a good mother
She would've tried but she had her own issues. I don't think Rose being alive prevents Steven's identity issues altogether or the events of Future.
Steven wouldn't be the same person, and wouldn't be half Gem, at best he'd be a clone of Greg manufactured inside of Rose, maybe with a different gene presentation, so more of a younger alternate Greg than a child of Greg and Rose.
She probably would be a good mother, But steven wouldn't be a gem, and she would have never told the truth to him
we kinda get something close to that in "Storm in the Room" but it's only how Steven believes she would act if she was still around
I think she would be a decent parent but a deeply flawed one, not unlike Greg
Cartoon network really said “Okay we let you have gay relationships, this is too far. WERE STILL A CORPORATION, GET BACK IN LINE” lmao
For once, Cartoon Network was reasonable.

But when intercourse is -entioned in general really. That's when it ain't for kids lol
You know, if some variation of this idea had managed to make it into the show. I think more people would realize that a romantic relationship between Pearl and Pink Diamond wouldn’t have been any kind of healthy 😅
There's people that think they would be healthy??
@@Pheonixice101I think if it did make it into the show it'd show more depth to Pearl's obsession.

Dayum pearl is really down bad like that
The fact that both Amethyst and Pearl shapeshifted and made both Rose and Greg uncomfortable is wild. Makes me think where Amethyst got the idea considering she was still kinda like a child and therefore impressionable
I hope we get to see this in a potential a tv-14 Steven universe revival someday
Watching this almost a decade after the show ended is just wild

It did not end almost a decade ago lol do you mean started

Rose/Pink is clearly a divisive character, but there would been NO WAY anyone would've remotely saw her as good if this was actually canon.
genuinely asking...

Yep. Followed her a few weeks ago. She's chilling there showing some old sketches of characters, doing covers, some storytelling, etc.
You guys didn't know???
IKR!
Imagine this is the reason she doesn’t shape shift
It would be dark...and down extremely bad lol...
Well that and the shattering
LMFAO it was that embarassing
Would make sense, she hurt somebody from her own intent. The first time was swaying her to, but this second time was the cherry on the cake to never shapeshift again!
Pearl's loyalty to Rose was truly undying. She would do anything to remain by her side. And I mean _anything._
0:16 "wait what the hell!" Lmao
This episode would have been an instant top favorite of mine if it came out
I knew Pearl was down bad, but not this demon level down bad bro
She's incredibly far from Yujiro levels of down bad, but yeah, she's really, really bad.
It’s not just down bad, she needed Rose to define herself, it’s how she was built and it’s hard to shake that
"We became our fantasy" -Pearl singing in "Here we are in the future"
Reminds me of the "Amethyst shifting into Rose for Greg" episode in the first season.
Like damn..
Though the one moment that counts as dark and shady was her attempted pull rose gem out of steven viewing steven as nothing in comparison.
Pearl’s episode was too dark…

This is considered “r@pe by fraud”, and would have been crossing a line for Pearl. If this happened, especially with the fusion as a relationship metaphor, I would have never forgiven her
Really?
I'm seeing a lot of comments and honestly I'm really surprised that people are surprised about Pearl doing such a thing turning into Greg to me this just feels like the natural conclusion. The way Pearl has shown obsession over rose quartz to me this isn't surprising at for all this kind of proven that she isn't always morally great and for her to do something like this yeah I don't really understand why people find the surprising
Steven universe. The trauma that keeps on dumping even after it ended. ❤
Greg:Amythyst you know how I feel about shapeshifting... 😮
maybe that's where amethyst learned that she should shift into rose to get gregs attention
You guys should make a video on the possibility of an Amphibia Owl House Gravity Falls crossover.
What the Pearl doing?
😂😂
Turning into a greg 😂😂😂
😭😭😭😭
like amethyst didnt casually throw rose's form at greg before being yelled at by steven
i assumed these were a hypothetical, if steven hadn't been born and greg eventually died.
*HOT DAYMN, Did NOT expect that*
Oh wow I didn't realize this video came out today, glad to see steven universe content still exist
WHAAAT!?!? A PEARL GREG??? oh wow...I didnt expect that holy
I wasn’t expecting there to be a concept of Pearl maybe gettin it on with Rose.
That's just like Pearl's shapeshift of Rose Quartz 5,050 years ago, and later the classic Steven for Steven tag
Pearl is a complex character so I'm glad they didn't add this bc the Fandom hates on her too much.
Why was this the funniest round table vid I ever watched I thoroughly enjoyed this video
Omg... I got uncomfortable hearing you speak about this....I can't imagine how Greg would feel learning this.
Holy shit that would have changed EVERYTHING. I'd be surprised if he could stand to look at Pearl after that...
Wow...This deleted concept definitely solidified Pearl as my favourite Steven Universe character. The pain and desperation of forever chasing something/someone unattainable...
Honestly im loving the recent SU content, keep it up (hopefully CN may see a high want for SU content🤞)
Pearl 🦪 is more down bad than I am for Blue Diamond 💎😭

@@Xowolfgirl she's my queen frl 😭
Fellas if she’s 30 feet tall and depressed she is strong enough to _literally kill you._
Good thing that's only concept art not final cause that a DARK LOW even for a kids show.
Pearl's relationship with Rose just makes me cry every time.

Yooo this is super interesting. Thanks for the videos on the stuff from Rebecca's tiktok! I wouldn't have known about it otherwise haha
That made me think fusion is about a stronger connection.

Loving all this new SU content! And narrated by the best of course. 😁
This kind of reminds me of when amethyst turned into Steven’s mom in the episode that had her and Steven cleaning out Greg universes garage only this is somehow even more messed up
Everyone were raging at Amethyst for turning into Rose in front of Greg, calling her the worst
But this proving Pearl could ispire her to do such things! So, Amethyst is not the worst one here
Nah, Lil Butler ep is still an mental minefield with all the sub themes and undertones of what happened between Greg and Amethyst
it'd be fun to see the flash back fully animated, makes me kinda wish they'd make something like Steven Alternate Universe and have that be the adult oriented show, just a complete remaster of the show but with the freedom to be more serious and cover plot lines that got brushed over or wouldn't be at all possible in the original show.
I wanna see the gem war full on or Lars blowing up star ships
