I noted a lot of purple in this month's art - an underrated colour in the C64 palette. Infeztation definitely reminds me of Cyberdyne Warrior, and Bone Dry looks excellent.
Hey you're right Andrew, even my title page for the video exhibits a lot of purple - colour that would have been considered to be 'uncool' back in the day I think. But how about this scene, after Lester/A Pig Quest I thought things were going to cool off until the second half of 2023 but these solid titles keep on coming.
GP Cars reminds me a lot of Rally Speedway! Please take that as a compliment, as it was one of my favorite racing games. And you could build your own tracks with it!
is it capable to run something similar to earliest command and conquer with lower graphs of course? i don't know how sophisticated is the cpu behavior.
Thanks Louie, another great episode. Space Station 23 looks like a C64 remake of Alien Breed, I'm totally here for that, was one of my favs on the Amige.
Yes, I was often reminded of Alien Syndrome as well even though Space Station 23 is a less arcade style. I would love a modern day adaptation of Alien Syndrome.
Was that 600 sales for MW Ultra? That seems surprisingly low, like it's missing a zero at the end of the number. Easily one of the best C64 games ever made imo, up there with Sams Journey, Turrican etc. Lasse Öörni is easily my favourite C64 developer (love Steel Ranger) so selfishly I hope we see more titles from him. Can imagine it's especially tough to justify developing big games when you'll see them available on CSDB etc
The lack of appeal may stem from the Ultra tag which may put people off. I've not played it, only seen videos of it, seems a mix between Batman the Movie and Bionic Commando for the most part. However, what I will say is there are a lot of selfish people who think they can just wait for 12 months and then grab it as free download from some website, but there's no real justification for that. Why should it be deemed freeware after 12 months? The only person who can decide that is the author and it's their work and their copyright.
Must try that Missile Command game, as the old conversion (probably unofficial) was pretty poor unfortunately. Lots of nice games to try out and look forward to this month for sure! Thanks again for the round up. Have also made a mental note to finally purchase MW Ultra asap.
Are there any story-rich games nowadays? I turned back to the C64 a couple of weeks ago and what I mostly see in videos are platformers (some are really nice) and viewed from above race games. Any new adventure or SCUMM games?
Caren and the Tangled Tentacles would probably be at the top of your list. Awakening is another that would suit your need. Lykia would be a good story rich game and you also have Briley Witch Chronicles but you would have to deal the JRPG game mechanics.
Those games that you are a fan of are not true Mahjong games but Mahjong Solitaire versions. Solitaire means that you can play them solo, requiring no partner. What's funny about the gameplay is that one loses if one has chosen the wrong partner for a stone ;-)
I agree. I did want to mention this as well but didn't want to sound over critical. It really does not make sense for a racer to have all other cars go the wrong way.

Purple seems to be one of the most used colours in art on the C64, especially in the demoscene.

The C64 needs a turn based tactical game like final fantasy tactics/ogre tactics, etc. a game of that type would work really well on the C64
There is.. Its called any SSI RPG (Pool of Radiance, etc).
