I credit the Mayweathers for educating me about the chess aspects of boxing.
I turned from a casual fan to an appreciator of good technical boxing.

The double jab is to get the boxer into the habit of being defensively responsible. There are a few ways to do it. Cus D'Amato teaches Mike Tyson to slip his head after a combo. If you observe closely, Mike Tyson slips to the left after he throws his jab. Here, Sr. teaches the boxer to extend his jabbing hand after a combo. It discourages the opponent from firing back, it also measures distance, blocks vision and occupies the space. Floyd Jr. usually gets into head control with the extended hand. So this habit is useful in more than 1 way. After training this for a few sessions on the heavy bag, I find myself unconsciously defending after I attack, and it sets me up for a favourable position for the next attack - kind of like playing pool where you put your ball in a good position for the next shot after you are finished potting the previous ball into a pocket. Muscle memory.

Say what you will about them and how they can be in the media, but Floyd and Roger are the last of a dying breed. I've made it a goal of mine to potentially train with them in a future visit to Vegas. Seeing this makes me happy and sad because I don't know if their style of teaching/fighting will carry on, it doesn't seem like Floyd Jr. has intentions of teaching after retiring, but hopefully I'm wrong.

Her struggles are viewers pearls. The more times he repeats himself, the more chances we get to watch. Because of the brutality involved and the cast of people drawn by blood lust, too many brilliant, scholars of the science and their knowledge goes unappreciated and disappears when them. It would be great if we discussed fights, drills and training techniques like the chess guys breakdown old chess matches.

Interesting, I'm still digesting what he is saying. Do Floyd Sr and Roger use the same mitt work combinations ? Also how many combinations do they actually have in their system ? I've watched a few different videos and they seem to teach a lot of different variations. Quite hard to learn them all. One thing as well I note is that Floyd shows for example to block the left hook and then counter with the straight right or right uppercut, however in that situation Roger will show the left hook as the first counter. When practising should one typically rely on one standard counter or mix it up ? thanks.

What is Floyd saying right at the start of the video? It's difficult to tell, but it seems as though he is criticising something that her boxing trainer - and many other 10-a-penny boxing trainers - tell their fighters, which is to keep the guard up high and close to the face. He seems to think that anyone who does that will get 'knocked on they're ass!'
