  • Found a new local hobby shop (www.shakahobbies.com) that does some racing. Been wanting to get out and do some type of RC racing for a long time. The mini Z from kyosho offers a ton of scale detail and a small platform.

I specifically work on the smaller scale RC's....1/24, 1/18 and soon 1/32nd. But, I have big sausage fingers from working on full size 1/1 scale....but there is an innocence and truth to making something so small scale.
I also grew up with slot cars. I still have all my father's 1/32nd and my 1/24th scale cars....Just waiting for the right moment to convert them into RC's.
Great video.......Yes, they all are a bit squirrelly.

Cool that you got into this. I've been looking at these for a while. Driving will come with time. I used to race 1/10th on carpet track back in the day. I was horrible at first but got better over time. Just takes some practice. Stick with it, you'll get there! Look forward to seeing more on these.

Oh buddy! You gut suckered in to the MiniZ vortex!!!! Good times! It's not cheap, that's for sure but it is so much fun. And you don't need a huge facility to set up a track. It's great fun, and the scale factor just rocks, these hard bodies are awesome. Looking forward to your next MiniZ videos. You are going to have fun.

You can find lipos with an empty battery. Sounds weird but check it out. Of the 4 only 2 are batteries and 2 are blanks and empty and only serve as connector and you leave them in the car, so you only need to swap the exterior ones.

I have a customized 4x4 mini-z 4runner... made a roofrack, 3d printed some accessories like a hoodlight, some birdskulls, a full exhaust with headers visible in front wheel arches... I also chopped and remade the bottom of the rear end and moved the bumper up a bit to give it better departure angles, drilled some bulletholes and weathhered it wit alot of rust paint...... it looks like something from madmax.... Oh, and I built a whole moonshiners shed on a trailer for it out of lollipopsicle sticks.....
it has upgraded suspension and I used soldering wire to wrap the axles for lower cg... and then gave it some 3d printed adapters so I could buy slightly bigger scx24 wheels.
I just love the fact it runs on AAA batteries wivh I allways have available in my electricians workvan. No lipo recharge fire hazard. Long runningtime and small enough I even often bring it with me in my motorcycle sidebag. recently had it with me on a 1000 miles roadtrip on my '86 Suzuki Bobber! :D

Aircraft mechanics kept those original Tamtech cars in their roll-a-ways at LAX during my Continental Airlines days. They would race them at lunchtime the standard regulation track was a Boeing 727, preferably a 200 series, travel around the nose gear over behind the left side maingear across to behind the right side gear and back to the nose. I think they got about ten laps out of the batteries. The thing about those Tamtechs was they were 1/24-25 size and had a couple of positions for the wheelbase or different lengths of chassis.
So a couple of these guys had put model kit NASCAR bodies on them and they looked really good. The other thing I saw with Tamtech chassis was mounting the lexan large scale slot car bodies on them because they weighed less.
I looked up the scale of these Kyosho cars and the scale is 1/27-28th. Wish they were a bit larger. Challenger looks so good!

The point is actually to keep them small. They do race 1/18 if you want larger.

awesome! once u put in a front one way and rear diff(glue) , it works soo well for drifting, no need for a gyro at all with the awd. I'm super keen for building and drifting these 1/28 performance chassis '. keep it up man!

I've got tracks ordered to start racing at the shop (Remote Control Hobbies - Orlando), but they're on backorder... Apparently, the RWD is MUCH better to race on the tracks, but the AWD is good for parking lot stuff. At least, so I've been told by the Mini Z guys. As long as you're having fun, that's what counts. Skills will come with time and experience. Way to read the instructions!!!! Always RTFM. lol Oh boy, it looks like they're going to be tons of fun to work on for guys like us with tremors... 🤣 The poor dog was not happy. She did well not attacking it, though! lol

Go to target and check out the hex mod tuner cars if you like the mini z’s. Not as electronically tunable but does come with two diffs for awd drifting. The amount of stuff you get for money is unreal

I drift my mini z rwd skyline indoors at home in winter or rainy days. remove the mirrors ahahah
Still need to change the front springs.
You might want to check other you tubers like beaver's hobby
Check out ds racing drift tires(hard) depending on surface you might need one or the other number. I go with of 3 or 4 for indoor hardfloor
Also to drift you might want to check the kyosho set of wheels, with all the offsets imaginable to fit all needs and bodies. Around 25-30 bucks if I remember well.
Last, Get the kyosho set of springs front and rear, definitely needed to tune the behaviour.
I swapped my t link in the back for some carbon ones. They came in a kit I think from Amazon, and had like 3 T of different stiffness, it also helped with my rwd drifter and more consistent behaviour
I also swapped my rear with a kyosho ball diff which can be put more or less stiff.
And last but it's an old saying but oh well awd is power slide, rwd is drift.
