Abba just never got promoted in the US. If you were not American or British and from a non-English speaking country in the music industry at the time, it was an uphill battle.
Soy español, ¿Que te parece la versión español?. Chiquitita es para mi una de las canciones que más evoca mi infancia, nose porque pienso en cuando era niño y Chiquitita como arte de magia aparece ahí
NOTE: The word for "girl" in Spanish is "Chica", and Chiquitita is just "little girl" or a term of affection for a young female. ALSO: Abba does a Spanish version of this song, which is in nearly flawless accents! (You should review it too.) It was a ginormous hit in Latin America.
As some others have mentioned, "Fernando" was another song by ABBA with a latin melody that came out in the mid 70s and was a huge hit (one of the top 50 biggest selling singles of all time).
Chiquitita is Spanish for "Little One" (small girl) The song was based around band members, Björn-(guitarist) and Agnetha's daughter, Linda, after the separation of them both in 1979 before divorcing in 1980.
Chiquitita means 'little one' in Spanish. This was a massive hit all over Europe and all proceeds were donated as partof a show by a nuber of artists the UNICEF the United nations childrens charity. Abba recorded this in Spanish and it went back to number one again in Spain and throughout South America. They also did an album with 10 of their songs many prior hits in Spanish. Bjorn speaks about 5 languages. For a great example of Anni-frids vocals and great harmony 'Fernando' is amazing. Another Spanish themed song though the story is set in Mexico.
I remember this! It was also used by my Spanish teacher to illustrate the "little female friend" aspect of the title & how Spanish speakers may make a fond nickname out of one's name by adding ita or ito. My husband's name becomes Guermolito. A lesson that has stayed with me for over 35 years. Gracias, Senora Fell!
@@rebeccalipps8007 In Spanish "chiquitita" is the diminutive of "chiquita" and "chiquita" is "little girl". in Spanish "chiquitita" would be the equivalent to "tiny girl", and from what I read about the group ABBA, in those years they sang in Spanish without knowing the meaning of the words in that language, they only learned to read and pronounce the words and not to understand the language.
I remember the BeeGees donated the proceeds from “Too Much Heaven” to UNICEF- I wonder if it was part of the same fundraiser? Anyway, it’s so cool when artists do that.
All the profits from this song were directed to UNICEF, the charity that helps children worldwide. Such a generous gesture from an amazingly talented group. I remember loving this song when I was about 10, and watching the video on TV. When my dad died suddenly when I was 14, it actually helped me process my grief. It's a truly touching song that seems to capture empathy for suffering children. PS - Listen to "Fernando" for more of those gorgeous harmonies.

I have literally NEVER heard an ABBA song I didn't love. They're one of my favorite groups of all time. But, my favorite song by them BY FAR is "Fernando" for the harmonies & the moving story.
The only single I dislike is I have a dream , too sickly sweet for me , kids singing ? No thanks, Abba although they are amazing , have like all bands made songs that I like less or not at all , I have every album , including voyage and they all have at least two tracks I can’t stand , two I think are ok , and about three I bloody love , I’m sure other people would think differently, it’s just taste I guess ✌🏼

LOVE LOVE LOVE ME SOME ABBA!!!! HUGE HUGE HUGE group of the 80's for a decade (over 40 years ago)!! Fun facts and "not so fun" facts: Swedish group. The blond girl (Agnetha) was once married to the guitarist (Bjorn) and the auburn-haired girl (Anni-Frid) was once married to the pianist (Benny). For a short time (the last 2 of those 10 years) after both couples divorced, they still toured together. Millions and millions of dollars was offered to them, over the years, to re-unite. They turned it all down, BUT, finally came together in the last couple of years and have presented a kind of return with special affects concerts (digitally constructed avatars). So, together, but NOT together. They were one of the greatest bands of all time!!! Their harmonies were second to none!!! Thank you for your reaction!!!
Not sure anyone is reading these comments but, ABBA was a fabulous group. After seeing a couple of ABBA documentaries I learned that in their own way, ABBA was a supergroup (in Sweden) as before they formed every member of ABBA had an outstanding musical career. That they melded so well with two loving couples combining all that talent was a gift for all of us. But, what should also be mentioned is that they had an arranger/composer in the studio that put it all together in a way that borrowed from what he loved from what Brian Wilson did with the Bech Boys. ABBA, like the Beach Boys recorded duplicate instrumental tracks, changing the pitch slightly on overlapping instruments to make that fat ABBA recorded sound. The result was what was in the ABBA recordings, as well as how the Beach Boys records sounded. This made a much fuller sound in that little vinyl disk than normal because of this way of composing, arranging, and recording.
It’s amazing that this has raised $5 million for UNICEF. Great song. There is no auto-tune, this is just two voices mixing and melting together to form something so brilliant in its beauty that it’s almost blinding!
If you haven't seen the ABBA Musical, I highly suggest it!! You will be amazed! I've seen it four times in four different countries and in each one it was great! Auckland was the best though! Those Kiwis love ABBA!! Everyone dancing in the aisles and singing along!
My wife loved ABBA. Each Christmas I would put a "best of" double Cd of one of her favorite artists in her stocking. One year it was of ABBA. I lost her just before the pandemic, as she suffered from many health problems, and everytime I hear a song from this band, I think of her. Thanks for reacting to this one, and keep them coming.
🤗 so thoughtful, sorry for your loss. She would be proud of you for telling us your story, shows us to be kind to our loved ones, and those we pass by each day. Music does help remember, and heal at the same time.😇❤
ABBA is a Swedish band that were HUGE in the 70's and very early 80's. Primarily known for their disco grooves they had so many great tunes and new bands that came after, like Ace of Base that were from Sweden all were compared to them. Check out Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, Knowing Me Knowing You, S.O.S and more.
My favourite Abba song. The line….Chiquittita you and I know that heart aches come and they go and the scars they’re leaving. A lyric of what life’s journey is. Sometimes, something is so unbelievably good it just leaves you with a puzzled expression as you try to work out how someone can create something so off the charts outstanding. Thanks for the reaction.
One of my favorite songs by ABBA. I don't think Chiquitita is a person's name, just an endearment (little one). ABBA is such an amazing group to listen to. Their catalog is very large. I remember being at a cafe when they put on ABBA's Greatest Hits. The whole place became a party!
Benny has never been truly given the credit he deseves for his piano / keyboard skills. The instrumental "Intermezzo no. 1" from the album ABBA is a showcase of his ability.
I love watching Ambers facial expressions as she follows the sadness & joyous moments in the song. I can see how emotionally invested you are with the story being told. Love it.
Two sopranos with an incredible range, we took them for granted a little in the 70's . Chiqitita is anybody, it's not a literal person, that's why this song is so powerful.
Freda and Agnetha are a vocal match made in heaven, but the songwriting of Benny and Bjorn never seems to get the accolades they so richly deserve. So many wonderful smash hits with a strong focus on melody and simple 'hook-lines' which captivated the world for thirty years or more until they broke up, but their melodies are timeless and still so loved by countless millions of us.
This was an international hit..we actually had a 45 record with the Spanish version back then. It was sold to raise money for hungry children. ABBA was always great.
Chiquitita is Spanish term of endearment meaning "little one." I love this and love both of the Momma Mia movies! The OKC Museum of Art did the first movie as a sing along several years it ago. They played the movie with subtitles so everyone could sing along! It was so fun and some people came in costume.
I looked on Google for the meaning before I read this. It added a little. "The title of the song 'Chiquitita' is not a name of a person, contrary to what some people think. The word is actually Spanish for the phrase “very little girl” or “little one”. It is often used as a term of endearment for females."
Mama Mia is an abomination. The worst movie I have ever sat through. So, so bad. I adore Abba, have for decades, they are pretty much the first band I ever fell in love with back in the 70s. And I am female, whatever my handle may indicate! The. Worst. Film. Ever.
@@jonnylumberjack6223 everyone has different tastes and different opinions. That's what's so great about this channel, these wonderful people are all about positivity. I love both ABBA and the movies... 🤷♀️
I LOVE , how much he loves The Bee Gees . He’d have been beaten up in the 80s . I’m really glad it’s changed ! Worse , you know in the 80s guys in AC/DC hats would have hilariously called them gay for liking the bee gees or abba ! How’d we survive it ? The world may never know , but I guarantee none of us did it 3 licks
One of the main reasons why the girls' voices blend so well, quite apart from the fact that they're both pitch perfect, is their vibrato is perfectly synchronised!
Part of what made ABBA so popular was that they did unexpected things with their phrasing and their note progressions. That uniqueness was gold. This song is a perfect example of that.
If you know anything about singing, and I don't , you can hear that in every syllable, how they enter each phrase (the "attack" in instrumental speak), softly or hard, how they choose how strong one or the other sings, everything, it's not by accident. I call it micro-phrasing and it's the sign of master singers.
Wonderful! These ABBA songs are all frommy teenage years. My best friend bought the singles and we endlesssly played them their wooden Philips stereo console, 47 years ago but I remember it as yesterday.
Frida is smiling at times in the song, even though the lyrics were sad, because the wind kept blowing her hair across her face to the point she had to hold it in place.
I grew up with all the fabulous music from the 60's - 80's. ABBA was one of my favorites. They had lots of hits & I owned many of their albums. I can't think of a bad song by them. Some of their best are "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme", "Thank You For The Music", "Does Your Mother Know?", "Waterloo", "Money, Money, Money", "The Name Of The Game", "Super Trouper", "I Have A Dream", "Voulez-Vous", "Fernando", "Chiquitita", "Take A Chance On Me", "Mamma Mia", "SOS", "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "Dancing Queen" etc. Nice to see that they are back together again recording after all these years.
Every Title you mentioned is a great Song and shows there wide range of Music they published over the Years back then. I was and still am a great ABBA Fan and a lot of Songs make me cry, I guess I grew up to be a sentimental old Guy - LOL
Don't forget "The Day Before You Came"...never got much play time because it came after the fall of disco and ABBA was synonymous with disco...but love that song.
The genius songwriting of Benny and Bjorn, the iconic piano riffs, and the stunning voices and incredible harmonies of Agnetha and Frida equals the perfect cocktail for the best pop band ever to grace this world!
"Chiquitita" means 'little girl' (with affection) in spanish And the melody have a spanish tune, specialy by the acustic guitar But the center is the wonderful piano, like akmost all ABBA songs "Chiquitita" is a beautiful song, it has hopeful lyrics, a melody that starts very soft with the blonde Agnetha's solo, then grows and explodes in a powerful chorus; Agnetha and Anni Frida's vocal harmonies are of excellence (Agnetha is soprano, Anni Frid is mezzo soprano, and together blending together the 'Third Voice' of ABBA) "Chiquitita" was composed especially for the Concert by UNICEF, invited (with a lot of artist) by Bee Gees ABBA premiered "Chiquitita" that night in January 9 (1979), and its royalties are eternal for UNICEF "Chiquitita" was ABBA's greatest success in Latin America, that prompted ABBA to record it in Spanish, and its success was so extraordinary that in the following years ABBA recorded an album with its best songs entirely in Spanish "Chiquitita" was specialy the greatest hit of ABBA in my country Argentina "Chiquitita" is in the Top 3 of all ABBA worldwide biggest hits, with 'Dancing Queen" and "Fernando", and it's a fantastic Masterpiece This promotional video was in February 1979 in Swizterland, when ABBA go there to a special TV "ABBA in Switzerland", for the 'International year of the Child' (That's why the snowman) It's their only promotional video that ABBA made without Sweden I wish to see you soon in another reactions to ABBA songs GOD bless you and stay safe My best regards from Argentina
Chiquitita means pretty little one (female, since it has the "a" ending). The diminuitive "little" is probably just a way of expressing affection/endearment. Like a lot of ABBA songs, this was released in both English and Spanish. I believe that those songs were composed in Spanish first and then translated, which is why sometimes in the English versions there are leftover notes and not enough words to fill them. Anyway, either version is beautiful.
It was released in several languages I believe along with some others. ABBA was not nearly as huge in the USA as they were around the globe. They were an obsession for most abroad in the 70's. I remember as a child visiting my relatives listening to the German sung version. You can find it here on YT.
I don't think any Abba songs were written in Spanish before they had already been written in English. Even this one, Chiquitita, was only recorded in Spanish months after it was already a hit in English. In fact between their hit Waterloo in 1974 to Chiquitita in 1979, Abba didn't write or record any songs in Spanish. The success of the Spanish version of Chiquitita in Spanish speaking countries caused the band to re-record some of their hits into Spanish, but these were all old established hits.
As a Swede i didnt know that songs were released in spanish, there are some songs released in Swedish versions as well like Waterloo, SOS and Ring ring for example which i like.
This is a beautiful song by Abba. It is even more amazing to know that no one in the band spoke English during most of the time of their early hits. They learned the songs phonetically to sing them. Beautiful voices.
I absolutely loved your reaction to the songs from Abba. And you are absolutely correct. It just makes you smile and it makes you want to hear it longer and longer and longer. You wanted to keep ongoing. It just makes you feel so good and so energized and puts a smile on your face. What a spectacular gift from God. That this group was. I wish everybody in the entire world could hear these songs on a regular basis. I think people in the stores out in events. Would absolutely be so inspired and uplifted that? How could anybody be angry or want to commit an act of violence when you have such an amazing sound? From 4 great people, the 2 men and 2 women and those 2 women. The voices it is unimaginable. How perfect that they were together. And they never tried to outshine each other. Pure raw godly and gelic talent. Thank you for showing this and I really appreciate it and everybody. If you have a Bluetooth speaker where you can hear it even louder, that's the way to go. So share this with everybody you can. It is truly an uplifting group that I don't think there's any comparison. There's the mama's in the past. Le with the California dreamin and there's disturbed with the sound of silence and there are many others. Of course, the beegees just terrific gifts from God. It's just an amazing beautiful thing. We have on this planet planet. With such a tremendous talent, I'm and everybody should be listening to this. I'm a regular basis. People couldn't help but not be uplifted and happy when listening to Abba. And many other groups so share this with everybody. You can people need to hear this. And this was way back in the 70s. I had just gotten out of the navy and I heard them for the first time and I went wow. What an amazing sound and group.Well, thank you for letting me make a comment.Everybody share this with everybody. You can maybe it will put a smile on their face too

There was a rumor that the song was written for Linda Ulvaeus, the daughter of ABBA band members Agnetha Fältskog and Björn Ulvaeus, who was only about 5 or 6 years old when her parents’ marriage began falling apart.
isn't exactly is a song about a latin american child, as Agnetha's words the song about Linda Ulvaeus is "Slipping through my fingers" in "The Visitors" album (1981)
Benny, the guy playing piano composes the music. Bjorn, the guy with the guitar, writes the lyrics. Agnetha, the one with blond hair, is a soprano and Frida, with the red hair is a mezzo soprano. Each singer has a lovely voice in her own right, and each have opportunities to sing lead ("Knowing Me, Knowing You" is a great one for showcasing Frida's lead vocals) but their voices coming together is what makes this group special. As you noted, their voices blend together so well - fans refer to this as the group's "third voice". They just recorded their first album after nearly 40 years and in an interview about making it, Bjorn said they weren't sure how they were going to sound after all these years, but as soon as Frida and Agnetha's voices came together it was "the sound of ABBA". P.S. The snowman is there because these were the very early days of music videos and initial attempts to make them look interesting resulted in things like Swedish (Nordic) people sitting in front of giant snowmen. :)
Don't forget the accidental photo-bomber in the background. The videos got better check out" The Day Before You came. Stunning music with excellent video.
Sweden, Sweden, Sweden, what talents you create! What is it with this little country in the North? Answer: one of their treasures is / has been that they have a natural aptitude for singing and for music in general. It is in their genes. See for example "allsång på Skansen", Stockholm, where they meet and sing together once a week in the summertime. ABBA was one of the very first artists to be known outside of Scandinavia. Ahh haven't heard that version....off down an ABBA rabbit hole I go
ABBA "Chiquita" (Spanish version from 1979)
ruclips.net/video/ih4JqI44Qz8/видео.htmlsi=BwjpCqyfOhqVSVsQ
Their accent is flawless in English even tho their Swedish, so it doesn’t surprise me….. they’re great
Chica/ pequeña = little
Chiquitita/pequeñita = very little, "littly"
Thank you for your explanation. I knew nothing about any of their Spanish music. Pos que Bueno y que Bonito.:)
As some others have mentioned, "Fernando" was another song by ABBA with a latin melody that came out in the mid 70s and was a huge hit (one of the top 50 biggest selling singles of all time).
They did an entire album in Spanish ABAB ORO
That's such a beautiful song
Absolutely, Jay & Amber- it's a 'MUST LISTEN'.......SOOOO beautiful!!
I loooove Fernando. I love the descending melody of "in the air that night / the stars were bright". So pretty.
I LOVE Fernando! I love the story and the way it's beautifully sung paints the perfect picture! 💓
Chiquitita is Spanish for "Little One" (small girl) The song was based around band members, Björn-(guitarist) and Agnetha's daughter, Linda, after the separation of them both in 1979 before divorcing in 1980.
I had the pleasure of seeing ABBA in Sydney Australia in 1976 , These girls could really sing
@@carolynnewcomb2153 Yes, it was the same event.
I heard its called the ABBA "Revolution Trilogy" = "Fernando", "Chiquitita" and "I Have A Dream". Its a narrative.
Bullshit. Your story about the royalties isn't true. Makes me think your dead dad story is also bullshit. What us your malfunction to make this crap up for sympathy? What broke you? Regardless, fix it or self delete
@@darkjudge8786 They donated a percentage of the royalties in a list of countries. I think they upped it to 100% in later years to support UNICEF even more.
@@darkjudge8786 since 1979 Abba donated 50 % of royalties (for this track) to UNICEF, since 2014 they donated 100 %. Reaching 4.8 mio USD for UNICEF in 2021.

Probably the zenith of their harmonising.
Have you ever listened to "That's Me"? Talk about harmonies, one of my favorites.
Im an aged care worker and i just lost a dear resident to me at just 70 to dementia, she was always listening to abba and this song reminds me of her so so much it hurts. Rest in peace my beautiful miss trouble, i will miss you always
Sorry to hear that and just your energy to take her with you in music and spirit MAKES HER HAPPY IN SKY WITH GOD 🙏🏻 thanks for share your relation and friendship power ✨
Get over it!

Bless you
I have literally NEVER heard an ABBA song I didn't love. They're one of my favorite groups of all time. But, my favorite song by them BY FAR is "Fernando" for the harmonies & the moving story.
Listen again.
THE MOST PIONOEST SONG EVER LOL Them 70s baby ,, Released in early 1979
I don't think you can go past this song. Fernando's great, but this is better.... and the live in concert version is better again.
One of us, the name of the game is mine. Together with chiquitita especially the last piano solo. And ofcourse the winner takes it all
"CHIQUITITA" ALWAYS...ALWAYS! ...MAKES ME 😢 yo... it just TOUCHES that DEEP INNER FEELING of how much LOVE and SUPPORT can REALLY HELP YOU THROUGH 😢❤🎉😊
Benny Anderson, the pianist in ABBA, is a true musical genius. He wrote the songs together with Björn Ulvaeus, the guitarist.
Literally a perfect song.
Benny was a maestro on the keys
Greetings from Australia….if you want to hear beautiful pure ABBA vocals please listen to My love,my life….it is amazing
My fav ABBA song!
It’s amazing that this has raised $5 million for UNICEF. Great song. There is no auto-tune, this is just two voices mixing and melting together to form something so brilliant in its beauty that it’s almost blinding!
Can you please check out Franz Rhythm. And I want to know how you would react to a 15 year old girl doing this cover.
The song wouldn't exist without Benny and Bjorn..... All 4 made a piece of art.
My favourite Abba song
My favorite ABBA-song:-D The piano is awesome!
Along with Super Trooper, one of their two best among so many awesome tunes.
That's Benny playing the piano the whole song is awesome
ABBA = magic
If you haven't seen the ABBA Musical, I highly suggest it!! You will be amazed! I've seen it four times in four different countries and in each one it was great! Auckland was the best though! Those Kiwis love ABBA!! Everyone dancing in the aisles and singing along!
MASTERPIECE
My wife loved ABBA. Each Christmas I would put a "best of" double Cd of one of her favorite artists in her stocking. One year it was of ABBA. I lost her just before the pandemic, as she suffered from many health problems, and everytime I hear a song from this band, I think of her. Thanks for reacting to this one, and keep them coming.
❤️💐
Sorry for your loss 💐💕
It's so comforting when a song(s) reminds us of the person we loved. 🎶💚🎶
🤗 so thoughtful, sorry for your loss. She would be proud of you for telling us your story, shows us to be kind to our loved ones, and those we pass by each day. Music does help remember, and heal at the same time.😇❤
I'm so sorry about your Wife.
Great suggestions
Name of the Game is another one.
They've done several ABBA red tions.
Sorry but they are not known for their disco groves. They had a couple songs that fell into that category but they are primarily Pop and Pop Rock.
@@JuniorTennis whatever their genre imo ABBA is best known for their perfect harmony.
Anni-Frid is now also known by the title Princess Anni-Frid Reuss, Dowager Countess of Plauen. She married a prince in 1992.
Amber, you look like you are hearing the angels...... aren't they wonderful 😊
That piano outro...peerless
My favourite Abba song. The line….Chiquittita you and I know that heart aches come and they go and the scars they’re leaving. A lyric of what life’s journey is. Sometimes, something is so unbelievably good it just leaves you with a puzzled expression as you try to work out how someone can create something so off the charts outstanding. Thanks for the reaction.
Abba were huge in Australia in the 70s and early 80s.
One of Sweden's biggest exports
One of my favorite songs by ABBA. I don't think Chiquitita is a person's name, just an endearment (little one). ABBA is such an amazing group to listen to. Their catalog is very large. I remember being at a cafe when they put on ABBA's Greatest Hits. The whole place became a party!
Latin sound. Snowman on a hill. Voices from heaven. The piano ramping up and out. Folks, ABBA, ABBA.
Best pop group ever. Hands dow.
Thank you for this great reaction.
More ABBA !!!!!
This song were number 1 in Mexico for 36 weeks.ABBA is the greatest band ever.🐈⬛🐈😛♥️
I have so many memories tied up with abba songs, hearing them brings them back
Benny has never been truly given the credit he deseves for his piano / keyboard skills. The instrumental "Intermezzo no. 1" from the album ABBA is a showcase of his ability.
I love watching Ambers facial expressions as she follows the sadness & joyous moments in the song. I can see how emotionally invested you are with the story being told. Love it.
Yeah, she really feels the song. This has always been my best ABBA song among many of their songs that I love so much.
Me too. My No.1 go to song when i'm feeling down and alone...
This song was in commemoration of 1979 The Year of The Child.
Chiquitita is "small one" in Spanish.
This is probably one of the most beautiful songs ever ❤️
At 8:47 I think your reactions are exactly what they were after, with the instrumental outtro......joy, ad infinitum...
Chiquitita is Spanish term of endearment meaning "little one." I love this and love both of the Momma Mia movies! The OKC Museum of Art did the first movie as a sing along several years it ago. They played the movie with subtitles so everyone could sing along! It was so fun and some people came in costume.
watching and listening to this I was picturing Christine Baranski singing to Meryl... 'I see you've broken a feather'
Perfect explanation of what 'chiquitita' equals in english.
🤷♀️
ABBA. It`s ABBA. Genius.
Freaking amazing song...love the instrumental at the end. And the harmonies! I'm still smiling!
I will be 65 in may 2022 and still love all the oldies.
I think you guys have made history... It's probably the first time anyone wearing an ACDC cap has rocked out to Chiquitita!
Openly? I very much doubt it otherwise ;-)
The phrasing is because they are native Swedish speakers who are singing in a different language
If you know anything about singing, and I don't , you can hear that in every syllable, how they enter each phrase (the "attack" in instrumental speak), softly or hard, how they choose how strong one or the other sings, everything, it's not by accident. I call it micro-phrasing and it's the sign of master singers.
i love how you love the vocals , I love Agnetha her voice i get all fuzzy
Wonderful! These ABBA songs are all frommy teenage years. My best friend bought the singles and we endlesssly played them their wooden Philips stereo console, 47 years ago but I remember it as yesterday.
Anna and Agnetha were two of the greatest female vocalists of all time. Benny and Bjorn wrote, composed and produced the brilliance that was ABBA.
Simply haunting and uplifting at the same time.❤
They were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame by Barry and Robin Gibb
one of the best groups ever👍
Frida is smiling at times in the song, even though the lyrics were sad, because the wind kept blowing her hair across her face to the point she had to hold it in place.
Dancing queen is my favorite ❤️
"The Winner Takes It All" is my favourite, shout out to Waterloo and Dancing Queen.
My personal favourite for happiness: I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do....:)
Eagle.
The genius songwriting of Benny and Bjorn, the iconic piano riffs, and the stunning voices and incredible harmonies of Agnetha and Frida equals the perfect cocktail for the best pop band ever to grace this world!
"Chiquitita" means 'little girl' (with affection) in spanish And the melody have a spanish tune, specialy by the acustic guitar But the center is the wonderful piano, like akmost all ABBA songs
"Chiquitita" is a beautiful song, it has hopeful lyrics, a melody that starts very soft with the blonde Agnetha's solo, then grows and explodes in a powerful chorus; Agnetha and Anni Frida's vocal harmonies are of excellence (Agnetha is soprano, Anni Frid is mezzo soprano, and together blending together the 'Third Voice' of ABBA)
"Chiquitita" was composed especially for the Concert by UNICEF, invited (with a lot of artist) by Bee Gees
ABBA premiered "Chiquitita" that night in January 9 (1979), and its royalties are eternal for UNICEF
"Chiquitita" was ABBA's greatest success in Latin America, that prompted ABBA to record it in Spanish, and its success was so extraordinary that in the following years ABBA recorded an album with its best songs entirely in Spanish
"Chiquitita" was specialy the greatest hit of ABBA in my country Argentina
"Chiquitita" is in the Top 3 of all ABBA worldwide biggest hits, with 'Dancing Queen" and "Fernando", and it's a fantastic Masterpiece
This promotional video was in February 1979 in Swizterland, when ABBA go there to a special TV "ABBA in Switzerland", for the 'International year of the Child'
(That's why the snowman)
It's their only promotional video that ABBA made without Sweden
I wish to see you soon in another reactions to ABBA songs

That's what I said in my comment
Straight into my soul. This is heaven.
Abba always sung in perfect harmony. None of this screaming and trying to outdo each other like people often do these days.
Look up First aid kit
Chiquitita means pretty little one (female, since it has the "a" ending). The diminuitive "little" is probably just a way of expressing affection/endearment. Like a lot of ABBA songs, this was released in both English and Spanish. I believe that those songs were composed in Spanish first and then translated, which is why sometimes in the English versions there are leftover notes and not enough words to fill them.
Anyway, either version is beautiful.
first in English, as always
ABBA didn't write the lyrics in spanish
It was released in several languages I believe along with some others. ABBA was not nearly as huge in the USA as they were around the globe. They were an obsession for most abroad in the 70's. I remember as a child visiting my relatives listening to the German sung version. You can find it here on YT.
Good catch on that.
THIS ^^^^^^^
Chiquitita means little girl. Royalties from this song were donated by Abba to UNICEF the children’s charity.

ABBA - the best for ever and always...
There was a rumor that the song was written for Linda Ulvaeus, the daughter of ABBA band members Agnetha Fältskog and Björn Ulvaeus, who was only about 5 or 6 years old when her parents’ marriage began falling apart.
Omg that's really heart warming and heart breaking as well
I saw a documentary about abba forgot the name but it was heartbreaking about them and their split
Sort of like when Paul McCartney wrote “Hey Jude” for Julian Lennon when John and Cynthia were breaking up
did not Eminem write a song for his daughter as well, thought he would not be alive much longer or something?
isn't exactly
is a song about a latin american child, as Agnetha's words
the song about Linda Ulvaeus is
"Slipping through my fingers"
in "The Visitors" album (1981)
The impact of ABBA on the world of popular music is vast. So many hits.
Benny Andersson is a self taught pianist and accordion musician.
"You'll be dancing once again, and the pain will end; you will have no time for grieving."
My favourite Abba song so beautiful 💙
Snowman almost looks like "Bon Homme" (good man) from Quebec Canada
Thanks for the info!

A big hug from Norway, neighbour of Sweden.
