Hello Microsoft, unfortunately my Surface Book 3 isn't turning on when I did your solutions, this is the second this has happened on the device, I had once a Surface Pro 7 and it didn't turn on. I have waited serval hours and nothing worked, any tips?
The worst mistake I have ever made buying a surface laptop 3. Microsoft will only offer a £450 replacement for a laptop that's 13 months old, been plagued by issues and has only turned on once since January. The only way I managed to boot it was to leave it off for 2 months and guessing that killed the battery and allowed it to restart, but 2 days later when the windows update was due - dead again... and nothing is bringing it back. At this point I'm not going to pay any more to Microsoft since its a manufacturing defect... have had to go to consumer rights and watchdog unfortunately to try and find a solution. Was going to get a studio but ended up going for Mac instead - at least they offer repair services! Horrible, horrible mistake and have lost my entire new business inside this bricked device which has cost me £1000's
Hi, I have tried all the methods I found and it still won’t on I’ll explain what happened Me and my friends were in a video call suddenly my surface pro 6 went off so I tried charging it and it still didn’t on It’s been a day now and it still wouldn’t on so I beg u to tell me what to do in this situation.
It's so terrible. My Surface Pro 7 has same problem. I tried all suggested options, including single button, double buttons and contact Microsoft assistant, running Reliability Monitor and Surface Diagnostics Toolkit but no software issue identified. The only option provided by Microsoft now is replacement which cost $450. I bought it in Jan 2020. The warranty service just passed and I used it not oftentimes. Can't believe that Surface has very bad quality like it. But it's even more surprising when I found that many people have the same problems with Surface product, mostly right after warranty service period. Many people paid for replacement and the problem happens again. I rather throw this product away than paying $450 and knowing that the problem would come back later on. I have spent the same amount ($1,200) for many other brand electronics devices and never got any product which can only last for 15 months -such a shame on Microsoft quality.
I need help, my surface pro 4 can not turn on, and it can not restart. I follow all of your step, but still not work. In my country, there is no one can repair, how can it be fixed?

My Surface Pro 3 has done this to me 2 times this month. The first time I tried the two button force shutdown, worked after multiple attempts. then most recently two button force shutdown didn't work. then i found an online surface user forum: forums.windowscentral.com/microsoft-surface-pro-3/456016-surface-pro-3-wont-turn-back-possible-solution-when-all-hope-lost.html and I read lots of creative ways to fix this problem. I used the "use plastic bands to hold a pen over power button" method, and 9hours later, my SP3 revived, and now it's working ok again. TIme to get a new one for sure....
I have to keep doing random stuff to my SP3 and I can't get a new one because my parents aren't nessicarily thrilled at the idea of getting my a new pc mere months after I got it
Why does this even happen ???happened with my new surface 7 2 weeks after I barely got it. Was doing hw and stepped away to use the restroom and when I returned it didn’t turn back on. scared the life outta me thank you though the 20 sec hold worked
My surface book 2 wont turn on. The keyboard lights up for 1sec when i press the powerbutton but nothing happens. I tried to let it lay for 3 months waiting for the battery to drain, same problem. Disconnected the keyboard and still wont turn on. Tried everything in this video, nothing. It worked just fine. Then i closed it, and the next time i opend it it would not turn on.
Tried this on my Surface book but it's still blank. I had my charger connected in but suddenly it stopped charging altogether and now out of power with the screen now blank and I tried everything you've suggested but no luck turning it back on.

But How about Microsoft surface Go Loptop, I turned on normally like other days & the charge was more than 60% then suddenly it turned off and didn't turned on again , I bought it 3 months ago, never crushed or fall down bit suddenly Turned off .... Can you help !
My surface pro 6 froze the other night so I did a hard restart (like in the video here) and because a Windows update was pending when I did the restart it started to install it. From there it's been stuck at "configuring windows features, step 1 of 2 at 100%" for the past day. I need this Pc otherwise I won't be able to get into the art college I want to go to because of all my art being stored on it.
Hi. We understand that your Surface freezes while updating. This issue is associated with several factors, software conflict can be one of them. We suggest that you perform a force shutdown: msft.it/6054T5l1u. This steps will refresh the software configuration of your device. After the restart, run the Windows Update automatic troubleshooter: 1. Select Start > Settings > Update & Security. 2. On the left side, select Troubleshoot. 3. Under Get up and running, select Windows Update. * If you don't see "Get up and running" on the Troubleshoot settings page, go to Additional troubleshooters and you should find it. 4. Select Run the troubleshooter. For more information on how you can troubleshoot updates on your Surface, feel free to visit this article: msft.it/6055T5l1R. We hope this information helps. -Ken
@@MicrosoftCustomerSupport force shutdown is what I meant by hard restart. Forced it to shutdown multiple times, every time it attempts to boot back up it goes right back to configuring windows at 100%. I originally forced a shutdown when it first froze while I was doing work thinking it would just reboot and all would be fine, that's when it began to configure windows and has been stuck doing so since. The advice is appreciated
We apologize for delayed response. We suspect that the Windows system files maybe corrupted due to Windows update installation might be interrupted for some reason. To troubleshooting the issue, we suggest resetting your device using the Windows 10 ISO: 1. Download the Windows 10 media creation tool and then run it on a working PC: msft.it/6054T5omy. 2. Select Create installation media for another PC. 3. Choose a language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit). 4. Follow the steps to create installation media, and then select Finish. 5. Connect the installation media you created to your nonfunctional PC, and then turn it on. 6. From login screen, press and hold the shift key and select restart or force to shut down your PC 3 times to boot in recovery environment. 7. On the Windows Recovery environment, select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Choose either Keep my files or Remove everything. 8. Wait until it finish. Let us know how it goes. - Mar

Hello there! Your comment caught our attention. Thank you for raising your concern to us. We understand that your Surface won’t turn on and you want to know how to recover the data when you send it for repair since the SSD is soldered. Allow us to help you. For your reference, Microsoft recommends that you back up the data valuable to you before sending your Surface device to a Microsoft Service Center. It’s because if you send your Surface to our service center, everything on it is erased. In your case, since your Surface won't turn on, you won't be able to back up the files stored on it. If you've been using OneDrive, or another backup option, you'll be able to restore your files once you get your Surface back from the service center. Please see this article for more information how to prepare your Surface for service: msft.it/6059kTRDz. In line with this, may we know if you have been using OneDrive with your Surface? We’ll keep an eye out for your reply.
Hello again! How’s it going? You comment recently caught our attention and that you want to know how to back your data when your Surface won’t turn on. As mentioned on our reply, your Surface data will be erased when you send it for repair/service. However, if you’ve been using OneDrive in your device, you will be able recover your files/documents after you get back. If you have questions with other Microsoft Surface services, please feel free to message us again, and we'll be more than willing to help. We'd love to hear from you! Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Surface logo. Let us know.

This really worked for me thank u so much.....
You're welcome!
What is the cause of this starting problem ?
Thank you. This was sooo helpful!!
Hi, I have tried all the methods I found and it still won’t on I’ll explain what happened
Me and my friends were in a video call suddenly my surface pro 6 went off so I tried charging it and it still didn’t on
It’s been a day now and it still wouldn’t on so I beg u to tell me what to do in this situation.
Did u fix it and if so how?? i am loosing my mind
How do u turn ur window surface laptop 3 on?
Thank you so much I thought my was gone I've had mine since March for online school
Thanks a lot I needed to know this I will save this video on a playlist to what happened it if this happens again
Glad it helped 👏

my surface pro 6 has no external damages but disply not turning on.plz help me
My Surface Pro 3 has done this to me 2 times this month. The first time I tried the two button force shutdown, worked after multiple attempts. then most recently two button force shutdown didn't work. then i found an online surface user forum:
forums.windowscentral.com/microsoft-surface-pro-3/456016-surface-pro-3-wont-turn-back-possible-solution-when-all-hope-lost.html
and I read lots of creative ways to fix this problem. I used the "use plastic bands to hold a pen over power button" method, and 9hours later, my SP3 revived, and now it's working ok again.
TIme to get a new one for sure....
I have to keep doing random stuff to my SP3 and I can't get a new one because my parents aren't nessicarily thrilled at the idea of getting my a new pc mere months after I got it
Thank you so much, God sake I was scared
It was helpful thanks
Why does this even happen ???happened with my new surface 7 2 weeks after I barely got it. Was doing hw and stepped away to use the restroom and when I returned it didn’t turn back on. scared the life outta me thank you though the 20 sec hold worked
Thank god I have a smartphone to look this up 😅
This surface pro is truly a nightmare I was hopping it gets fixed and hoping that Microsoft products won’t be like this. So disappointed...
Omg! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!!! I thought it had a virus!
You're welcome!
Tried this on my Surface book but it's still blank. I had my charger connected in but suddenly it stopped charging altogether and now out of power with the screen now blank and I tried everything you've suggested but no luck turning it back on.

omg my old surface laptop broke and it wouldn’t turn on and had to replace and now it’s doing the same thing wtf
It’s called a scamm some people do CPR on the back and say it 99% works
After the restart, run the Windows Update automatic troubleshooter:
To troubleshooting the issue, we suggest resetting your device using the Windows 10 ISO:

I will never buy Microsoft products again!!! It just won't turn on!! Like I can't be bothered to keep doing this every freaking time for it to turn on, I wouldn't be so mad if it wasn't expensive but it was really expensive and now all that money goes down the drain!
Thank you,i thought my surface was dead, but it was only dead.
It didn’t work. I know the ssd is soldered on but if I send it in is there anyway to recover the data? That’s all I really care about
Hello there!
Please share your experience with the Social Media Team by clicking here:

My screen is frozen and won't turn off. I've tried holding the power button down as it says in the video. What should I do?
Hi, Charlotte! We'd like to help get this sorted out. What is the make and model of your device? Which Windows version are you using? What exactly happened before the screen froze?
I have a Surface Pro 4 with Windows 10. I was editing an image on Photoshop before it froze, but I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary. The computer is still frozen now.
Hi Charlotte. We're here to assist you. We're you able to do the steps below:
1. Press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds and then release it.
2. Press and hold the volume-up button and the power button at the same time for at least 15 seconds and then release both. The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.
3. After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.
4. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Surface logo.
Let us know.
It worked when I pressed the power button with the volume button at the same time. My laptop is now working normally. Thank you!
