sorry if this is a dumb question, but do you think you'd ever do a tutorial on how to solder (specifically like how you did it in this vid?) i'm (and i imagine many others) new to this and find the process difficult, help is always appreciated
The company *System76* will begin shipping laptops with Coreboot These laptops are using Intel 10th Gen (Comet Lake) processors The price of the laptops will not be cheap I prefer *Libreboot* which comes without "Binary blobs" (like Coreboot)
Hey got a few questions about this build trying to attempt something simaler for use in a 2503 advanced dock and want a quad core to power it, is this doable for windows ?
Kinda, its been tested with windows 7. Unfortunately I have no personal experience with it and haven't heard about anyone doing a windows 10 installation either. Although from the thinkpads.de forums "With this ROM, you can boot to Windows 7 with the Quadcore CPU and Suspend-to-RAM works as well. However, there are still several issues: >The keyboard in SeaBIOS often doesn't work (it works later in the OS) >The wake from S2RAM takes forever on Windows 7, sometimes doesn't work at all. >Clock doesn't work in Windows 7 >Installing Windows 7 from DVD doesn't finish, it has to be on the HDD already (I didn't test Linux) >some more issues" Unfortunately I have no knowledge of trying this with a advanced dock. I snagged a ThinkPad W500 on eBay for about 80 dollars that has a T9900 (~3.0 GHz Dual-Core?), though the battery life on this is a complete joke even with the Ultrabay battery lasting less than an hour. Hopefully when I have some spare time on my hands, I'll be able to attempt to libreboot this.
@@tripcodeQ7 I might just end up sacrificing the graphics card, considering that NVIDIA to this day does not play well with the libre software community and the GPU is really outdated by today's standards.
@@tripcodeQ7 Its fine right? Either way, I get the onboard Intel GPU on X200 too. If the ATI GPU is disabled, I would not spend any battery juice on it too. But I get the woderful screen size. Which is a huge plus because X200 seems a little too small for me to code and write Latex. But W500 has a bigger screen. Would the W500 support a 9Cell battery? Do you have any experience on how long it would last with simple web browsing?

@@alexandrprincip6366 I don't think so, they provide bootable disks I think. Your updating the ec firmware by updating the bios and they just provide exe files

what about usb ports? can you use external usb keyboard with it on start?

the t500 has the old pccard cardbus or the bad new express card (54 '34)?
Thinkpads switched to express card after the t4x series. This thinkpad is compatible with the pcie x1 advanced dock, but that thing is expensive.
