Nice vid, you know a lot about the stuff. I have done 1vyrain on my T430, and upgraded the cpu, as well as I did with my T420, but with the latter I have kept the bios untouched. There is so much confusing information or info is just lacking about the stuff you perform with ease. Nice.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and if you need a good resource for documentation, the old coreboot wiki can be helpful. The information is a bit scattered, but review.coreboot.org also is a great help.

I have a T420 with coreboot and an Ivy Bridge i7. I even got EDKII running on it, though I do need to select boot from file and choose grub every time I boot the machine.
I recently did this with a t420 and a t520. Both using 3632 qm CPUs from aliexpress. Both chips have stability issues if they are allowed to boost all the way up to the rated 3.2 GHz. I had to limit mine to 2.9 GHz to prevent hard crashes. This indicates heavy wear to me.
I am sorry that your setup had issues. There are to many variables from this comment alone to verify the cause. This might be some help though: -There are 2 versions of the t420 heatsink not including the nvidia dgpu models -Aliexpress is a bit sketchy. I bought my chip a year back before this video was made. I might have gotten lucky. -I used thermal grease on the northbridge, I didn't cover this much because I don't know if it makes any difference. -Last time I did this mod it was with a wonky dgpu model that was doa. It had similar stability issues after a month or two.. I can't narrow the issue down much further. If there is a bad batch of chips I'd like to know for the sake of a psa. I am moving in a month so I can't really order something from china.

Hello, excellent video, I have a question, I have my T420 without core boot, it keeps the original bios, it has a total of 2TB of storage on 2 solid drives of 512gb and a 1TB disk, 16 GB of RAM and I have also upgraded to a Core I7-2860QM (4 cores and 8 threads), the base frequency of 2.5 ghz and the maximum of 3.6ghz, and it works without problems, at temperatures between 40 to 60 degrees, it is very similar to the Core I7-3632QM that your computer has. One of the advantages that I saw when comparing these processors is that the Core I7-3632QM supports 3 monitors, vs the 2 that the Core i7-2860QM supports. Basically this is one of my office work and multimedia playback laptops on a Linux distribution. Do you think it is worth changing the factory bios to coreboot?
I got an i7-3632qm to update t420, yes working with (win11&Kali) coreboot with the I5- 2520M. The laptop leds for hd and such and backlight on screen comes on but nothing else. Is there somewhere a working .config to look on what I may have missing?
Do you have a vga option rom? If so check what is the right pci id for the graphics. I think in my config it was (8086,0166). I think the mod needs the vga option rom to work.
The screen is a stock 1600x900 panel, but their is a privacy screen cover, so filming was a bit challenging for realistic contrast. I have a normal second lid that I used for some of the shots.and the brightness is about the same.
It is ill post it in the future. Random test drive with someone's lobotomized 11. Typo: I ordered 7/11 at the same time of writing the comment my apologies.
