@@fixitwithzimHey there. Your video is terrific. Thank you for sharing it with the world. However, with my particular latch problem, the only part that broke was the plastic piece that has a hole in it to keep the upper hook-type-part in place. The one that houses the hole for the spring is in great shape and the one below that for the lower hook-type-part is in great shape. It’s just that the top area doesn’t stay put since that plastic securing piece broke off. So, the door will not close. I just tried all sorts of things to try to keep it in place / offer resistance when closing the door. No luck. Since this microwave is discontinued, are we just totally out of luck? Please let me know what you think. THANK YOU!

    Fantastic!!!
We heard a moderately loud bang in the kitchen and didn't figure out for a few minutes that the light in the microwave was on. Turns out the latches on the door moved up and down freely. My wife searched for the model number of our 12 year old Sharp 1200 W unit. Found them from numerous big-box stores. In the middle of the microwave suppliers, she noticed a few fix-it posts. She read one to me and indicated that I should try it. The written description was a bit confusing - so I asked if there were any images. She found your site and I immediately understood what and how to do it!. Taking the picture frame off the door was easy - found the broken post from the door - the spring was hiding on the bottom ledge, not easily visible because it was against the front cover under one of the metal blades. Once I retrieved it with tweezers, I followed the instructions on your video and in less than 5 minutes, saved $200 and a trip to purchase a new microwave. I'll keep your channel in mind for future fix it needs.
    Nicely done!

I was sitting at my computer when I heard a noise in the kitchen. The protrusion that held the lower end of the spring just kind of... spontaneously (without the unit running)... BROKE! I was disgusted that such a lightly used microwave was now going to have to be replaced. Then I found your video and was able to beat this *obvious planned obsolescence*. My microwave works again! Thanks very much for taking the time and effort to put this video up!

This video is so helpful and saves my GE microwave every 4 years. As a frequent user every day of my microwave, the plastic bottom edges of the latch hooks will wear down from friction causing the internal switches not to be pressed down far enough. The result is the internal light and blower stay on. Originally I had GE tech support come out, along with a $200 service charge all they did was recommend replacing the entire microwave! So, many thanks to you guys for creating this video!

I never comment on videos but i had to this one time. Thank you so much. This was my exact problem and you literally saved me $100 service fee for calling my home warranty company to send someone out to fix this and i did it myself in 5 minutes. God bless you!

This is the one! Most videos show how to reattach the spring assuming the latch is still attached to the inner door assembly. Thank you for showing what to do if that latch is broken off

Thanks to you, I just fixed the microwave door. I have to admit it took more than 5 minutes. The spring didn't want to stay in place. I tried several spots until I found one that worked and let the frame line up as it should. Success!

Thank you so much for your instructional video. I have an Electrolux mike oven. And the door latch failed. I was procrastinating on repairing it, cause I was going to take the whole door off its hinges. Now I managed to repair it in about 15 minutes. And it's up and working. A great video! Thanks again

Not all hero’s wear capes!! I paused in the middle and said, “ugh!! The little hook is broken, I can maybe glue it?” And then when I unpaused, you said, “most likely this hook is broke. Don’t glue it! Here’s what to do” and I did it and it worked!! THANK YOU

Thank you doesn't seem like enough. I am a stay at home mom who is waiting for a dishwasher and dryer delivery this week. I found out this am that my husband's brakes need to be looked at. When my microwave door broke today, I cried. Now I am walking around with all the confidence after fixing it. I may not disclose to my husband how easy it actually was, thanks to you.

Had to drill a hole like you said as the tab had broken off the latch piece but still only took 10 minutes. 👍

Excellent video. At first, I thought that the latch piece that hold the spring was broken, but when I removed the trim piece two pieces of broken plastic hit the floor. I looked at the latch and saw that it was intact. So my problem became making a repair to the plastic (glued in!) insert that hold the other end of the spring. I knew there was no way I could repair it that would have a lasting effect, even with Gorilla Glue. I would still have glue it into the body of the door, and my gut feeling was that would be just as ineffective. I find that searching for repairs and repair ideas are plentiful on RUclips, so I entered my problem. Voila! Up comes your video. Solved my problem in a matter of minutes. Microwave is now operating as normal. Thanks, Zim . . . you helped me save a bit of money.

I'm a 50 year old female (self-admitted girly girl) in the process of a hostile divorce from a Mr. Fix It guy. Needless to say, I didn't usually have to fix anything (except for the marriage) when he was around, he usually took of that stuff (except for his own issues, of course! lol) But, now that I'm on my own and on an extremely limited budget, I didn't have much choice but to "youtube" it. I DID IT! Thanks to your video!! THANK YOU!!

It's an old video, but I have an old microwave. It's a Frigidaire vent hood and microwave and it broke yesterday. I hopped onto RUclips because everyone knows that you can become a world authority on anything with just a few videos under your belt. Well, it worked... I had it fixed in under five minutes and didn't have to buy a thing. I just wanted to say thanks for sharing your video as I'm sure I'm not the only person you have helped. Frigidaire, on the other hand... I do NOT wish to thank for putting a janky plastic hook in the door. I mean... they actually spent money to make it worse. I just hooked the spring onto the metal frame. No fragile hook needed at all.

Thank you so much! I am so glad that you made this video. Our microwave door hasn't been working for almost a month now, I found other videos that suggested that I buy a replacement latch system (which didn't work) and others that suggested I buy an entire door assembly (that costs 180 dollars!). I've been wracking my brain trying to decide if I wanted a repair person to come out to do this repair or just get a new microwave and this morning I figured "I'll look it up one more time" and found your video. Perfect timing bc now my husband and I can enjoy our Chinese leftovers the way that God intended :D lol. Thank you!!
