I was able to stretch and reattach the lower hook of the spring to a metal hole near where the old clip broke off. Took 2 minutes and no new parts and it works fine again. Very useful video.

I did the same too. On mine there was a small hole that didn't provide enough tension, but then there is the portion with the larger openings that run consistently down the entire side and the spring will actually catch if you hook it to that too.
Great video. I used a 5/64 drill bit and simply drilled a small hole from the outside of the plastic in, level with the indent on the metal on the other side, approximately where the spring was anchored previously. A toothpick fit through that perfectly and the spring tension keeps it pressed up against the metal. I clipped off the toothpick end sticking out of the outside and, voilà. Perfect. Much easier to attach the spring to this lower "rung" and it’s durable. It was really tough to get the spring caught on a lower hole, so this solution proved super easy.
Thank you SO very much! I was able to repair my microwave. However my issue was not exactly the same as the issue you described. Several responses below state the issue I had as my latch was not broken but the piece on the door that holds the spring on the bottom was broken. After reading responses below, I was able to hook the bottom of the spring on a hole that was already in the microwave and pull the spring up to hook the top of the spring to the latch and it was fixed. You may want to do a video on this fix as several have mentioned this problem below. Again thank you for showing how this worked!
Yes to both! Thanks so much, Cristian, for the original video and this comment. I had the same issue where the plastic piece on the door was broken, but the latch wasn't. I found a place to hook the spring in on the right side of the plastic bit that held the the spring hole used to be, and then followed the rest of the video instructions and my microwave works again!
Thanks so much. You just saved me a huge repair bill. Mine wasn't broken on the hooks though. It was broken on the part inside the door frame where the spring attaches to the door. Paul Ricalde has a video where he attaches the spring to the metal fins on the inside and then attaches the spring to the Hook piece and then puts in back together to create the tension needed again. You are both life savers.
@@RahsaanTownsell I ordered a new latch before taking the door apart. After it arrived I discovered my latch was fine. The piece that hols the lower end of the spring to the door had broken in mine. Fixed that by drilling a small hole in the remains of that stub and feeding the lower end of the spring through that hole. So far so good.
thank you Christian, my husband broke the door key on my microwave about 9 months ago. been trying to find another that would fit our custom made cabinet with no success. decided to youtube it and found you. ordered the piece off amazon and today i just happen to have the day off. my husband works a lot of hours so i did it myself. i now have my microwave back just in time for thanksgiving. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
Great video to allow me to figure out a solution. Door spring attachment bracket was broken (same as KentuckEd), not the actuator in the video. Drilled a tiny pilot hole from outside edge of door just below the position of the attachment point. Screwed in a small /short screw to give the spring a new door attachment point. Using two needle nose vice grips, rotated one end of the spring 90 degrees to mimic the angle of prior attachment. Door closes without screw causing an issue (if it stick out too far it will stop the door from closing). Working perfectly.
Video was exactly what I needed. It explained how to take off the doors plastic cover exposing the latch mechanism. Like others, the metal spring had become detached from the interior plastic mount which seems to have simply broken off after two years of use. Fortunately I hooked the spring to a metal part in the door mount which allows the spring to function as before. Replaced the plastic door cover and the latch now holds the door closed and functioning again. I hope this holds. It would appear that the interior plastic parts holding the metal spring in place are not built to last- given the wear and tear on the critical part of the door and latch.
Very helpful! Where the spring was supposed to attach had broken, so I drilled a small hole right behind where the spring hooked and it worked great again, at least until that plastic breaks
This video is an excellent video for repair of the microwave door latch if the key is broken. It was also useful in giving me the confidence I needed to open the door assembly and realize the plastic area holding the spring was my problem! I wish I had read some of the great suggestions here. I ended up heating a 90 degree hook set tool up with a torch and creating a new hole behind the area that had broken. I stretched the spring a little and curved it into the hole and then bent it to secure it. The tension was perfect and I was able to follow your instructions on putting it back together. My microwave is operational now! Thanks for the great video! I have subscribed and look forward to your help if I run into any other issues!
Thanks a lot. Very descriptible video. I disarmed the door and for my surprise, it was broke the another extreme of the spring base. I put itin the metal structure at the same place where the base was engaged originally. It funtioned excelent.

Absolutely excellent video. The piece on my door that holds the spring broke. The latch wasn't broken. So I stretched and customized the spring a bit to grab the metal door surround and put it all back together. Works OK now. Hopefully it'll stay working.
Same here exactly. How cheap, the piece that broke was less than 1/16th plastic. Connecting the hook to the door is way better, until the connection to the arm breaks. Now the panel to the right where the controls are is loose. Mine is only 5 years old. Designed obsolescence. Throw it in the landfill and buy another piece of crap microwave built in China.
Thanks for sharing. Well, after watching a few videos, I've come to the realization that not all samsungs are built the same. For me, luckily the hook on the removable bracket didn't break. But the hook on the door did. So what I did was make my on eylette with some wire and it worked like a charm.
Same break point for me. I used a small zip tie and routed it through a hole in the metal track. Adjusted to be at the same location of the door mount. Works like a charm.
Mine broke on the door side. Safety wired spring thru the hole to the next opening in the metal bracket. Thanks for the video, they are a tremendous help and saves us the big $$$.
Thank you for this! The mounting point for my spring actually broke, but I was able to hook the bottom of the spring to another point on the frame. We’ll see how long it lasts!

Many thanks for the excellent video. As it turned out, my Door Key was fine, but the part of the door that held the lower end of the spring had broken. BUT, it was your excellent video that showed how to take the door apart and what the mechanism was like that allowed me to DIY.Thanks again.
My problem was the tabs on the door also breaking off. For me it was the top bar glide and the middle spring tab. I did 2 things to reinforce the entire new door. I used a glue gun and pumped a small bead around the bottom of each of the 3 tabs being careful not to get glue on the holes to reinforce it. The other thing I did was superglue a small thin aluminum "L" bracket on the tab off the latchbar where the spring attaches to the plastic notch is now reinforced as well. The door was $235 but the option of buying a new oven ($270), having the new vent fit exactly where the old vent was (through the back wall) having to pay for a reinstallation and removal and then possibly having to drill more holes in my 10-year-old cabinet wasn't an option! Your video was invaluable to necessitate a relatively simple repair.
Thank you! My problem was the mounting point for the lower spring mount had broken. Your video help me understand and fix the issue. I also found a helpful video dealing with the lower mount on the "Fix It With Zim" channel.
Thank you for this video! Slightly different model of Samsung microwave and the clip the spring attaches to was broken. I attached the spring to one of the brackets and it’s good as new… for the moment 😂 thanks for helping me limp along if only for a bit longer!
mine was just the piece that the spring hooks to as well. I used a piece of string to attach to the lower metal plate with a hole in it for the bottom of the plastic latch. So far easy peasy and I did it myself! Thank you

Good Vid!!! My problem was the little plastic clip on the door was what was broken. I was considering using the 3D printer to reto-fit a clip until I realized I can just use one of the medal tabs in the inside of the door to hold the lower end of the spring. Done and done @ $0.00 and 5 minutes. Thanks to seeing this Video and my checking before ordering the latch as the latch was not the issue.
Thank you for this video I just opened up. My microwave found out that the key latch wasn't broken. But what the Spring attaches to in the middle was. Essentially rotated the Spring to hook onto the metal piece. And the hatch now closes
Thank you so very much. Fortunately nothing on mine was broken. I just somehow managed to dislodge the spring, so it was just a matter of putting all the pieces back together.

You are amazing….. God bless you my brother…. This is what I was looking for from last 5 days…. I had almost similar issue with my appliance. The key was fine but the plastic piece attached with the door where the spring has to tuck, had a crack. So I have used strong glue and after 24 hours I fixed it….
Your instructions are incredible. However, my spring and latch key were all good. It was a little tiny piece that the other part of the spring connects to that appears to be broken. Can you tell me what I need to do?
In my case, the key was fine but the door hook broke. I was able to drill a tiny hole into the metal braket that held the plastic panel and attached the spring there... latches even better then before. Thanks !!
Thank you I thought the problem was on the opposite side …it was the spring mounting point that broke on the door side I had to hook it to the metal area a little tight but still worked out 👍
Yes you you were correct the spring bar was not connected to the spring but the spring Bart was not broken it just got loose the only problem was we broke the piece off that was holding the spring but we did connect it and it is holding thank you so much for everything
Thank you! How do repair the door assembly? I thought it was just the door key, but the piece that holds the latch on the inner door assembly is broken. Thank you! 🙏🏻
Hi Cristian...thank you for a great repair video...when I opened up the door as you described, I found that the key itself was intact but the piece of plastic inside the door where the spring connects to was broken...not sure if that part slides in or is part of the larger inside of the door...is that small part replaceable? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I just found the same issue I have not been able to find that part for sale It looks to be just as likely if not more likely to break off as the hook on the door key
Thank you for the video. My door key hook is in tact, but the other plastic hook that holds the other end of spring that is attached to microwave door broke. Is there a video for that?
Thank you for the video. For my issue, however, the slots at the top and bottom where the key attaches to have broken off. Do we have to buy a whole assembly that’s connected to the door for that?
That's great and all, if that's the problem. The problem with my microwave is the plastic piece where the bottom of the spring attaches is broke. So what's the fix for that? A whole new door that costs as much as a new microwave?
Thanks bro. Unfortunately the piece that holds the spring to door broke. But I managed to find a hole on the metal side that works perfectly. They'll never know
Really good video, however, when I removed the hook I noticed it wasn't broken as demonstrated here. It the what the spring attaches to in the door itself that was broken, which is a bigger problem. I think I need a new door.
You have an excellent video, but when we went into the microwave the small black piece that the spring connects to was broken. There is nothing wrong with the latch. Is there a part you can order for that and if so how would you put it on? If there is what is the part number and where to order it? It looks like you would have to glue it with some seriously strong glue. We think that part probably doesn't exist as it was built into the microwave. I think we'll probably have to get another overhead microwave. Please let us know. Thank you!
Should have taken apart the door cover before I ordered the parts. The hook inside the door was broken, so like some other people I just hooked it to the metal frame. Now it’s fixed with no new parts. Thanks.
so do you have to replace the actual door key AND spring? Or just reset it. Based on the comments, some people reset theirs. Could the spring have simply fell off or gotten disconnected from the latch?
Is there anyway you can do a video on how to clean between the two glass pieces on the door window? My wife burnt potatoes on the stove and now there is a blue hue in between the glass pieces..
I was able to get door fixed , light goes off etc. but when I go to cook it doesn’t work. Too much tension on spring maybe . Any advice would be great thanks
Hi I thought my door key was broken but on further inspection it is the Spring hook on the inside of the door is there anything I can do it fix it? Glue, epoxy or do I just have to buy a new door or microwave? Thank you for your time liz

That is what happened to mine too. I actually just hooked the spring up to the little metal portion that is next to the key so that it would have similar tension and it works without buying anything else! I realize I am way too late at this point so sorry.
@@TheRealMrGuvernment Had the same issue. This ended up working fine. The door now closes and we have food again. The only concern I see is that the detent spring is pushing into the latch key causing it to bend, which may eventually warp it. But this is way cheaper than buying a whole new door. Shitty design on Samsung's part.
I wish this was my problem. The bracket at the top that this latch slides in is broken. It's all part of the main door assembly, which now looks like a $200+ fix, rather than the $18 latch. That's my luck though, can't ever be easy LOL
This video was great at showing me how to take the door off to troubleshoot the door issue. However, the latch was fine. The clip my spring attaches to is what is broken. How do I replace that piece?

What about when I close the door it makes a buzzing sound like it's running and even makes the glass round table get really hot quick. How's that fixed?
Thanks for this great video. I fixed mine in 5 minutes. I didnt even need a new key. My spring had just come off.

Thanks! Perfect video!! Exactly what I needed.
Same thing happened to me, any ideas?

I just found the same issue I have not been able to find that part for sale It looks to be just as likely if not more likely to break off as the hook on the door key
I hooked one end of the spring under the squared notches on inside of the door.
@@michaelhoot9759 did the same thing and it worked ok. Gluing that part back would've not worked, and this is cheaper than buying a whole new door.
Perfect video, thanks so much dude
Thank you!
Thank you for the video. My door key hook is in tact, but the other plastic hook that holds the other end of spring that is attached to microwave door broke. Is there a video for that?
Fantastic video. Very informative and easy to follow. Thanks for saving this not too handy man a considerable sum $
bless your freakin heart. was sure I'd have to buy a new microwave.
Thank you for the video. For my issue, however, the slots at the top and bottom where the key attaches to have broken off. Do we have to buy a whole assembly that’s connected to the door for that?
Thank you!!!
Very helpful thanks!
Thank you! The other end of where the spring attaches broke. Hooked the spring to one of the metal fingers. Right as rain...for now.
Do you mean the part that is inside the door broke? Because that’s where mine broke but can’t figure out what piece that is or how to replace it.
Thanks Brother
Thank you
Is there a replacement piece for the slot the spring attaches to on the door? Mine has broken so I have nothing to attach the spring to
Thank you perfect video for the help I needed .
They'll never know
Oh and I got it out the trash. 300 dollar win for me
Clutch. Thanks again!
You the best
Good video , we could have fixed it but the cheap plastic piece the spring connect to was broken. It was attached to the door no way to fix that.
Thank you Sir 😊
Thank you!
What if that plastic piece in the door is broken? Not the door key
Great, thanks!!
Ugh, what about when the parts you put the key with spring on the actual door are broken? Can that part be replaced without a whole new door? TIA
Should have taken apart the door cover before I ordered the parts. The hook inside the door was broken, so like some other people I just hooked it to the metal frame. Now it’s fixed with no new parts. Thanks.
The bottom part of what my spring attaches to is broken. The door key is fine. How do I fix the broken part?
What if the part that broke was the hole on the door where the spring goes before plugging it to the key hook??
The piece on my door that holds the spring broke. The latch wasn't broken.
Any idea what the part number is for that plastic inner door frame?
so do you have to replace the actual door key AND spring? Or just reset it. Based on the comments, some people reset theirs. Could the spring have simply fell off or gotten disconnected from the latch?
Is there anyway you can do a video on how to clean between the two glass pieces on the door window? My wife burnt potatoes on the stove and now there is a blue hue in between the glass pieces..
What about if the other part where the spring goes is the one that is broken??😢
I was able to get door fixed , light goes off etc. but when I go to cook it doesn’t work. Too much tension on spring maybe . Any advice would be great thanks
Hi I thought my door key was broken but on further inspection it is the Spring hook on the inside of the door is there anything I can do it fix it? Glue, epoxy or do I just have to buy a new door or microwave? Thank you for your time liz
Also it is a samsung microwave
Great video, question what are my options if the part that snapped is the hook in the door part? Do i need an entire new door?

That is what happened to mine too. I actually just hooked the spring up to the little metal portion that is next to the key so that it would have similar tension and it works without buying anything else! I realize I am way too late at this point so sorry.
@@shipeepihs Same, once i got it apart hooked it onto another area close by and golden!
@@TheRealMrGuvernment this is my problem as well, the little plastic piece broke off the actual door. Gonna give this a go. Thanks!!!
What if the place where the hook goes that's attached to the door is broken? Full door replacement?
This video was great at showing me how to take the door off to troubleshoot the door issue. However, the latch was fine. The clip my spring attaches to is what is broken.
How do I replace that piece?

Any luck getting it replaced? Same issue happened to me
Same here, me too
What can I do if the plastic piece the spring attaches to, to the door has snapped off? Do I have to replace the entire door?
What about if the door latch key is not the issue. The hook that attaches to the spring is the issue? How can I replace that part?
What about when I close the door it makes a buzzing sound like it's running and even makes the glass round table get really hot quick. How's that fixed?
I need help with shm2117s microwave samsung touchpad replacement, may i have some help withbit?
