Thanks a ton! You showed exactly what was wrong and how to fix it. I have the exact same problem, and now I can confidently repair the latch. You’re a god man! 🎉😊
2 minute fix. Spent 20 minutes trying to slide the microwave from under the counter just to learn that I didn't even have to. The opposite side of the spring broke on mine. Which made it easier to fix. Just latched it to a slot in the door and done.
Thanks so much, I watched a video on how to install a new door key and thought, there must be a way to make the old one work...but never thought of drilling. You saved me time and $ :-)
OMG you are a money saver!!! Thank you. I had the exact same issue and I managed to fix it the exact same way you showed by drilling a new small hole. Works perfectly again!! Thanks a bunch!
Thanks for the video. Mine broke at bottom of spring attachment on door not the level. Drilled a new hole further back (tricky to.get in there need long bit) on that flange lip and worked.
excellent fix - worked perfectly for me with one wrinkle: the spring attachment on the sliding post has fine - it was the base attached to the door frame that had broken off (2011 microwave). So, true to the original fix, I drilled a new attachment hole in the stub that remained of the base. Worked perfectly, microwave running perfectly. One note: use the opportunity to take off the upper cover and clean out the filter!
We were about to order a new microwave but I wanted to see if I could fix it first. Your video was the first to pop up and I got it fixed in about 20 mins! The hook for the spring that’s built into the frame broke so I had to tinker hard to get the pilot hole drilled! Thanks for the help!
Thanks man. Mine was the other end. Used some baling wire and pulled it down to the bottom of the door. Works great and I can tell the wife I fixed the microwave with baling wire!!
Same thing for me, you can drill a new hole right behind the broken hole to attach the spring to, just be careful not to join the holes. The drill bit can't be very short to reach it either.
Brilliant - thank you!! I had the same problem as Francheska Smith in the comments below (broke where spring attaches at bottom inside the door), but I followed Chris Papademetrious' solution and it worked like a charm. Thanks Chris!
Thank you so much! Mine was broken slightly different. The plastic hole that held the spring to the microwave frame was cracked so I just superglued a couple of small washers on either side of the hole… fixed.
This was my problem as well but the piece at the other end of the spring was broken. I had to gorilla glue it back in the microwave. The spring was also so tight it kept breaking again so my son and I had to use a combination of heat and hot water to help stretch it and it finally worked. I’m sure a man would have had an easier time. Either way, thank you so much for saving me a lot of money.
This is exactly what happened..except my plastic broke on the inside not the lever..hooked it in a different spot on the door next to hole..fixed..thanks for the video

@@databug88 thanks data. Problem is, mine has the broken part inside area where the key latch mounts. The part that holds the bottom of the spring. My key latch is in perfect condition (for now).
Well I watched this video after our Samsung wouldn't close. Our problem was that the spring hook broke off of the microwave instead of the door latch. Well damn. We solved it the same way and drilled a tiny hole in one of the trim flanges next to where the breakage happened. It is a little tighter than it was before however the over works fine and we aren't out buying a new microwave or paying big bucks for a repair.
if its the latch you can buy replacement latch $10 from amazon see my description. if its the other end where spring hooks just try to hook to any part of frame.
Do you have any suggestions for if the hook (the part that goes into the slot) has broken off entirely? I'm wondering if I can use some non-leaching microwave safe adhesive of some kind to reattach it.
I was not aware at time of my fix but you can actually buy the Part $10 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0832HP92W/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A22BDCX4SUNGSV&psc=1
