    Thank you so much..I saved the money and time. my microwave is Emerson Model MW7300W. it wan't stayed closed.
    Due to your video, I created and pierced the tiny hole in the latch I could connect the spring into the door latch..and is working good. it is awesome.

    When I was in the kitchen yesterday, the microwave door randomly out of nowhere popped open, seemd like a ghost opened it or something XD lol! but then I realized the hinge thing was all loose, and now today I found this video and was able to fix it pretty quickly, thanks to this video! :D Mine also had a tiny little plastic hook to hold the spring, makes you wonder why they do not just make a sturdy hole to begin with.

    I can't thank you enough for your videos, the original and this one as my latch went yesterday and I thought that I would have to get a new combi-microwave, but then thought, let me check RUclips! The door is fixed, the microwave is working again. All I needed was a flathead screwdriver and some pliers to prise open the ring at one end of the spring to hook on to the inside of the door. Thank you!

    This worked a treat! I didn't even have a make a hole - the way mine is constructed, I could just latch the spring onto a different part of the hook arm thing.
    Thanks heaps!

    Thanks for the video. Took less than 5 mins after watching. Was going to just toss it out. One suggestion, instead of drilling a hole I used a small zip tie to hold the top of the spring. My spring was a closed loop rather than a hook. Good stuff, thanks again.

    In my non-brand micro I was not able to release the latch. So I somehow managed to get the spring and attach it to the bottom of the latch and to the metal body to create downward tension. Thank you!

    A thousand thanks! I did it, I fixed the latch on my microwave door, and I owe it all to you. I clicked your links and liked your video and subscribed to your channel. It was a bit trickier on my 26 year old model, (wait, what?!? 😄) because I had to put the new hole inside the door frame instead of on the latch part, but your heated wire tip worked perfectly for the job. I am tickled pink! I appreciate you.

    Hi Zim! I got here from your "original"(?) microwave latch video[which I also 'liked'] because the door on my folk's over-oven Frigidaire "Gallery" series MW stopped latching- Model# FGMV174KFB (for those searching in the future).
    I feel it necessary to tell you that I've worked in electronics/small appliance repair professionally off & on for... eh, never mind- a long time regardless; and of course personally ever since I owned something I needed that broke. In those many years there were the "official" repairs, the "make it work" fixes, and those repairs that worked best.
    I say this so that I hope you will feel the full, immense, gratitude I feel towards you in showing not only how to perform this simple repair; but in how people don't always HAVE to just throw new parts at a failure- sometimes the "hack" fix is as good or better than the replacement.

    • @fixitwithzim
      @fixitwithzim  3 года назад +4

      Thanks for the comment! I get a great sense of pride and satisfaction in knowing that I fixed something myself and for free...these microwave door repairs are a great example of that. I’ve had countless people tell me in the comments that repair companies come out and tell them they need a new microwave. To me, that’s insane. To initially rip someone off for the price of these things and then to have a poorly engineered part fail long before the microwave itself is past its useful life is robbery and furthers our disposable society’s mentality that this is just “how it is”....That things just break and we need to go out and buy new all the time. I’m happy that my videos have helped others and saved them money...and of course, that sense of pride that we can still fix things ourselves. Thanks again!

    This video is so helpful and saves my GE microwave every 4 years. As a frequent user every day of my microwave, the plastic bottom edges of the latch hooks will wear down from friction causing the internal switches not to be pressed down far enough. The result is the internal light and blower stay on. Originally I had GE tech support come out, but all they did was recommend replacing the entire microwave! So, many thanks to you guys for creating this video!

    Front one RUclips DIY to another, I didn’t even have to watch the whole video before I was able to tackle the problem. LG microwave, harder to get at the problem, but essentially the same issue. Drilled a new hole and with the help of a pair of needle nose pliers I was able to hook the small spring , and I’m back in business! Cheers brother. 😊

    really love the paperclip guide for the drill-less . i learned hardware hacking from an old german guy named Konrad . my folks used to have him over once a week to fix stuff and he never let them pay him . he would fab parts and say well this will hold till you can order the real part . a lot of times it just held period and they all knew it . that changed things for me in my mind . he gave me the spirit you need to try which is ... its not gonna fix itself and you never know till you crack the chassis ( and look at it) . not to go south ...generally people act scared and they also pretend i am some sort of magician because i have fumbled my way thru a lot of hacks and built some stuff . i cant tell you how much i hate that . it really irritates me . people confuse gumtion with some sort of gift i was supposedly born with . iuts like " i dont know nothing about electronics so i am gonna give you this FILTHY ( insert appliance/toy here) and force you to take the screws out of it while i breathe down your neck , questioning and second guessing your every move super impatiently because i am too lazy to do it myself . note - if you want some one to fix something for you , clean it . i had a guy bring me a tv set with the circuit breaker tripped and it was full of roaches and critters . he has a band now with female singers and i saw them covering a black eye peas song . he got what he deserved .

Suggestion: if your oven door is almost at the edge of the piece of furniture it's resting on, place a rug on the floor. In my case, the spring fell on to the tile floor and bounced away. I only found the spring bout 24 hr later. Anyways, all's well that ends well 👍
