Thank you all for sharing. I only have 35A of Bermuda, but I have learned a lot watching you guys. I really enjoy. You guys are a great team. Keep up the good work. By the way I'm your okie neighbor out west of Tulsa
Really Great video , I greatly appreciate you explaining things as you move along. I never knew how they rolled the hay rolls. Thanks for making the video and sharing with all of us!
"Don't be afraid to buy one, you won't regret it" Said the same when I bought my 4020LP, never regretted it! Not a fancy new tractor BUT a heck of an advancement from my old two cylinder Deere's.
Mine was in the shop more than in the field. After 2 weeks dead in water for a neighbor. His swather died due to seat safety cut off. $200,000 and the same tired excuses I heard. "That part never fails" and, "it's still on backorder because it is so rare they fail." BS. My Kioti has give me very little trouble in comparison.
Great vid as always glad you're loving the 120r I have a 150r with direct drive transmission 3 range 8 shifts is good but not as smooth as your ivt, happy haymaking! .
Nice looking rolls! I see that your roller is not stopping the belts on ejection. Ours did that after it’s first 20 or 30 rolls! Was not a hard fix. Later
What's your ground speed, Scott? You are flying!! Yes Kim, back in my younger 4 wheeling days, we called those scary slopes "sinister sidehills.." great video, kids, thanks for sharing!
a great video thanks . having the windows in that tractor I don't understand why!!! Great maybe in lots of sun but what about if you use this machine at night??
Scott, How do you keep the round bales so square shouldered? Do you have a way to move the rake back and forth in front of the round baler? When ever I round bale, I almost with out a fault have to move the baler to one side or the other over the windrow as I fill the bale chamber. P.S. I love what you have done with your 705, I am going to ask Santa for a R23a for Christmas.
+Laura Winfield santa is going to be generous at your house this year. Keeping the pickup reel loaded with as much hay as it can take is the key. Speed is how you control that and thickness of the crop determines speed. Hope that helps.
Raking is the key to bale shape. Make the windrow as wide as the the baler pick to keep the chamber full all the across the bale. The windrow also needs to uniform to feed the into the baler evenly so as to build the square shouldered bales. A lot depends of the heaviness of your crop.
It's to do with how tight you have the baler set to. My dad has made round bales for years and he has his baler set so that the bales that he makes is nice and tight and hard. He also used the bale twine instead of the net wrap. They always so good when they come out and they don't fall apart when they're just sitting over they year.
Would you have less runoff & get more hay if he went slower? looks like a lot is getting missed by the rake, & drifting to the sides of the baler. Or is it not that big of a deal?
how hot is the cab glass during the day, never understood why down there in the south they tint tractor windows black, black absorbs heat, i'm tinting my 8970 JD with thick silver.
Depending on what you’re bailing (small bales, Big, Round......), when hay is baled, it should not be higher than 18 to 22 percent moisture. At higher levels of moisture, bales lose large amounts of dry matter caused by excessive heating and molding. In severe cases, spontaneous combustion is possible.....literally they will catch fire in the field, barn, etc! If you want the long read...... go hear! extension2.missouri.edu/g4575
Great video and what an awesome job combining those 2 implements into one. 2 Questions, how much do those round bales sell for, ballpark ? And can a farmer make a living/survive on just hay ? I understand if those are too personal but was curious. Thank you.
North Texas Hay, Thank you for such a quick response on an older video. I think a normal size square bale here in Ct sells for about 3-6 bucks ? I've been binge watching you two for the last two hours, lol. I'm gonna subscribe right now, not only because what you do is interesting, but because of answering so quick. It's greatly appreciated and thank you.
hey no problem im becoming a pro watching you tube hahaha just kidding i wanna ride those big cool tractors you can drive my dragster well switch for a day haha stay safe buddy
+Deric Kettel yes it beeps when it's 4 inches from rolling your set size, then beeps a long beep when it's finished, and then a short beep when the gate is completely closed
So did he need permission from the boss lady first to use the John Deere. I would make him take you out on a date night and a nice supper for letting him use it haha. Keep up the great video's
Why do you bale so dry when I'm baling grass and when moisture gets below 14.5 I stop to dry ever one here in western Oklahoma likes it to be about 18 moisture
Alfalfa is higher moisture but in dry air does not mold. Bermuda will mold in high humidity if moisture is high. We baled below 14% in the Ozarks on dry days and late summers without mold but if specifically for horses, want the moisture lower.
Quick question my M5 111 KUBOTA Tractor pro is a 540 I been seeing most hay cutters have a 1000 pto. I have seen some adapters but I don’t know if they are safe and ok to use
Ya it has a 540 or some come with a 540e I need t find a hay conditioner with a 540 pto I’m learning the hard way that’s something I should of did more research on
I just read in the owners manual that the pto shaft is interchangeable u remove a keeper and slide the 540 out put the 1000 pto shaft in and install the keeper and that’s it I don’t know how true that is when I get home to South Texas I’m going to try it out
sorry sonnenschein the 2 new hollands will do about 500 hrs a year and the Deere will do about 120. I dont plan on selling any of these tractors. I want to add a windrower to take hours from the tractor I cut with. The used market is so bad they bring very little, it's not worth letting them go once they get to a certain age.
Scott, what size and weight are your rolls? I hear of some guys making tighter or looser round bales..:what is preferred by horse people? Is there a difference between bales for cows and bales for horses?

and maybe when you need tractor tires they make a lowprofile tire they ride a bit stiffer and dont bounce so much look into them they have a redused sidewall some guys swear by them
Wouldn't those make the machine ride much worse by having less cushion to soak up the bumps so to speak ? My son, who's into the whole Honda Civic Hatchback racers switched to low profile and the car handles the corners better at high speed but holy cow, a marble in the road feels like ya ran over a piece of rip rap !
Hey make sure that, when your're doing this sort of stuff and using the word (work); that you say it loud and clear so folks won't mistaken this for fun.
All tractor manufacturers have offered a cvt transmission for over 10 yrs... Deere calls it ivt because they think they r special lol. They r good for light duty operations like this but suck in the bigger tractors that do tillage. They r nice but often use more fuel than the mechanical trans... all the extra hydraulic pumps take more fuel.
sure JD TRACTORS ARE LESS THEN OTHERS BUT JD really nails you on parts that why there is that great out fit that makes an sells of brand JD parts that were you get them after the warranty is out, or the 10,000 parts they say are maintenance parts
John Deere is the worst tractor in the world you pay big money for green and yellow paint. Go get yourself a new Holland or a Kubota John Deere is my last choice of any kind of equipment.
Thank you all for sharing. I only have 35A of Bermuda, but I have learned a lot watching you guys. I really enjoy. You guys are a great team. Keep up the good work. By the way I'm your okie neighbor out west of Tulsa
Thanks for watching and good luck making hay the rest of the way
Really Great video , I greatly appreciate you explaining things as you move along. I never knew how they rolled the hay rolls. Thanks for making the video and sharing with all of us!
Great video. When I see you have a new one ready to watch, I grab my coffee and let the show begin. Thanks
Chris Ciardiello thank you for the kind words
You guys are a great inspiration for my retirement years LOL I love your operation
+Danny Gonzalez thank you sir
"Don't be afraid to buy one, you won't regret it" Said the same when I bought my 4020LP, never regretted it! Not a fancy new tractor BUT a heck of an advancement from my old two cylinder Deere's.
+AKWayne S usually I wonder if the things I buy are what I need, but no question with this tractor
The ONLY regret will be when the payment comes due!
So enjoyable to watch, great teamwork.
Nice video of that, and that is a one good way of how to do two things at once:) and nice looking landscape.
+Randy Maylowski thanks
North Texas Hay you are welcome.
buddy this is john deere .i work with tractors for long time and always with john deere ,they are the best.
+Luis almeida I agree
Mine was in the shop more than in the field. After 2 weeks dead in water for a neighbor. His swather died due to seat safety cut off. $200,000 and the same tired excuses I heard. "That part never fails" and, "it's still on backorder because it is so rare they fail." BS. My Kioti has give me very little trouble in comparison.
I do like your set up
Thank you
Great vid as always glad you're loving the 120r I have a 150r with direct drive transmission 3 range 8 shifts is good but not as smooth as your ivt, happy haymaking! .
A C Harris Contracting I was interested in one of those but they aren't or weren't in America at the time.
Nice looking rolls! I see that your roller is not stopping the belts on ejection. Ours did that after it’s first 20 or 30 rolls! Was not a hard fix. Later
+Mark Barnhill thanks for watching
Yes, get the hay off and turn water back on and get the next crop growing. Are you going to apply more fertilizer for next crop?
good video scott
Excellent video!
+joel mollenkopf thanks
Beautiful farm! How many acres is your farm and where are you guys located?
225 acres in north central Texas
he does realize he doesn't have to back up with that baler to drop the bales? It has a kicker bar on it
Great video!!!
Tommy Boy thanks
I'm just amazed at how fast you can go.
+Brad Taylor I don't like going that fast but the conditions made that call
What's your ground speed, Scott? You are flying!! Yes Kim, back in my younger 4 wheeling days, we called those scary slopes "sinister sidehills.." great video, kids, thanks for sharing!
+belinda turner I think around 6.5 to 7 mph.
a great video thanks . having the windows in that tractor I don't understand why!!!
Great maybe in lots of sun but what about if you use this machine at night??
+canvids1 same as driving your car at night with tinted windows. I rarely operate at night and never bale at night.
Scott, How do you keep the round bales so square shouldered? Do you have a way to move the rake back and forth in front of the round baler? When ever I round bale, I almost with out a fault have to move the baler to one side or the other over the windrow as I fill the bale chamber. P.S. The four foot bale is also a little easier to fill with a normal windrow than if you had a five foot wide bale chamber
It's to do with how tight you have the baler set to. My dad has made round bales for years and he has his baler set so that the bales that he makes is nice and tight and hard. He also used the bale twine instead of the net wrap. They always so good when they come out and they don't fall apart when they're just sitting over they year.
Also, can you make a video one day of the farm showing the filds, ponds, etc... thanks.
I will, thanks
Would you have less runoff & get more hay if he went slower? looks like a lot is getting missed by the rake, & drifting to the sides of the baler. Or is it not that big of a deal?
how hot is the cab glass during the day, never understood why down there in the south they tint tractor windows black, black absorbs heat, i'm tinting my 8970 JD with thick silver.
The tint works perfect, it keeps it very cool.
What is the reading indicating the grass is too wet? You said 10.6 looked good.
Mwillia Willie anything 11 and under on my meter means it's dry enough to bale
Depending on what you’re bailing (small bales, Big, Round......), when hay is baled, it should not be higher than 18 to 22 percent moisture. it must be a pain to have stop and drop the round bail all day, is there a round bailer that you do not have to do that?
+Robert Tuck I think some prototypes have been made but nothing on the market as far as I know
Vermeer has a continuous baler. There is a European maker that shifts between 2 bale chambers
Great video and what an awesome job combining those 2 implements into one. 2 Questions, how much do those round bales sell for, ballpark ? And can a farmer make a living/survive on just hay ? I understand if those are too personal but was curious. Thank you.
$65 and yes you can

what is that you spray them with something so they dont rot ??? i love watchin you guys i could do this all day it actually looks fun lol
+Raymond J thanks for all the info, we spray it to keep it from rotting. Thank you for watching and commenting
hey no problem im becoming a pro watching you tube hahaha just kidding i wanna ride those big cool tractors you can drive my dragster well switch for a day haha stay safe buddy
+Raymond J deal
How do you know when the round baler is ready to drop a bale?
+Deric Kettel yes it beeps when it's 4 inches from rolling your set size, then beeps a long beep when it's finished, and then a short beep when the gate is completely closed
So did he need permission from the boss lady first to use the John Deere. I would make him take you out on a date night and a nice supper for letting him use it haha. Keep up the great video's
Kenny My I'm going to have to sell some of this hay first.
Have you ever ran a 30 series Deere tractor
+landynsautervlogs I have not
My son has a John Deere 6120R he bales with a John Deere 558 mega wide 5x5 bales.
Great video.....have you ever considered stepping up to 4x4 bales?
+Aaron McMahon no Market here for 4x4 bales.
"Well, that's all I have to say about that." Thanks for the reply and production of these great videos.
+Aaron McMahon your welcome, thanks for watching
Is it just the video or is your pickup ground pressure super light? It seemed like it was just barely touching the ground with the gauge wheels.
+Strangefruit I cut the grass high, I run the rake high and the baler also. Nothing goes below the 4 inch canopy
More good content. The water was soothing at the end.
The 6120 looks great with the window tint. Lower UV?
Chuck Stevenson I'm going tint the others this summer.
Do you have to weave much with the baler behind the rake like that?
+Henry Buiter not when I can keep the pickup full
You ever have one of those round bales take off on you when you dump it?
+Myron Marcotte yes I have, into a ditch big enough I left it.
I had a bale one time rolled in to a creek .
8:42 Few more inches and I wouldn't have been the only one to bend up a rake!
Devin Freeman ha! That crown will be yours for a long time.
New Holland is the cvt, you're buying into the HYPE Scott...lol glad you are enjoying your tractor and yes they are the cats meow for baling
+DLK HAY wish I would have bought one 5 years ago
Ready for that cold front?
InjectorRick yes, I'm not watching the weather at least until mid February
Why do you bale so dry when I'm baling grass and when moisture gets below 14.5 I stop to dry ever one here in western Oklahoma likes it to be about 18 moisture
+Adam Strobel what kind of grass
+North Texas Hay on my meter anything above 11 and you've made cow hay
Alfalfa is higher moisture but in dry air does not mold. Bermuda will mold in high humidity if moisture is high. We baled below 14% in the Ozarks on dry days and late summers without mold but if specifically for horses, want the moisture lower.
What kind or brand of double rake is that exactly?
It's a john Deere 705.
Quick question my M5 111 KUBOTA Tractor pro is a 540 I been seeing most hay cutters have a 1000 pto. I have seen some adapters but I don’t know if they are safe and ok to use
+homer1869 your Kubota doesn't have a 1000 option? I wouldn't have a clue about running a 1000 cutter on a 540 with an adapter.
Ya it has a 540 or some come with a 540e I need t find a hay conditioner with a 540 pto I’m learning the hard way that’s something I should of did more research on
+homer1869 I've made mistakes with almost everything I've purchased, so don't feel alone.
Lmao
I just read in the owners manual that the pto shaft is interchangeable u remove a keeper and slide the 540 out put the 1000 pto shaft in and install the keeper and that’s it I don’t know how true that is when I get home to South Texas I’m going to try it out
How long do you normally use your tractors ? How many years ? Hours ?
sorry sonnenschein the 2 new hollands will do about 500 hrs a year and the Deere will do about 120. I dont plan on selling any of these tractors. I want to add a windrower to take hours from the tractor I cut with. The used market is so bad they bring very little, it's not worth letting them go once they get to a certain age.
Scott Freeman thx for your answer , how old and how many hours had your 6125M you traded in ?
+sorry sonnenschein it was 2 1/2 years old with 320 hrs. Would like to have kept it but I'm wanting to get a windrower.
North Texas Hay thx a lot I looked in youtube, so john deere w260 seems to be a nice one ? Here in germany we dont have such things
Scott, what size and weight are your rolls?
I hear of some guys making tighter or looser round bales..:what is preferred by horse people? Is there a difference between bales for cows and bales for horses?
I run the pressure at 2 o'clock on the guage
Tighter equals easier to haul
i seen some guy has a big really big roller he fills with water and rolld the land flat so he can go faster its a homemade rig to
Is the ivt a German froh ZF?
+Chaos Engine I know this tractor was made in Mannheim
Ok I heard a beep, that just answered my question. lol
Wow 10.6 moisture, in Canada 14 is good
+Randy Poortinga in Bermuda at 14 it will mold

Blane Heinrich what would you like to know?

+Andy Hass for haying you can't beat them.
You suppose to go through the wrap
+Craig Mauney ?
If you have your health and love you do not need anything else. You may want other stuff!
+Brian Mulligan I agree completely
I would like to see how u pull your trailer from your three point the way unhook up
+Roger Jennings I will do a video and include that.
Should've bought a fendt 7 series tractor
+Ben Jassman no dealer support here.
He appears to know what he is doing. He does need to shave that under growth on his neck.
Ha
RIP

+Arnold Romppai new holland is by far worse on there parts than John Deere, at least that's what I've experienced.
That's a little dry
Lots of money for all those tractors, way over priced. Takes a long long long time to pay for them.
+alphasxsignal yes, it's a long term commitment for sure
John Deere is the worst tractor in the world you pay big money for green and yellow paint. Go get yourself a new Holland or a Kubota John Deere is my last choice of any kind of equipment.
