Hey Scott, that looks like your welding T-shirt!........As you know, this modification will save you thousands of dollars over the years, over and above the thousands you saved by doing it yourself. Great job!........Every hay farmer within 50 miles is going to want you to do one for them.
It's clever how you dropped the tongue down to draw-bar level, and the PTO shaft goes straight through below the center of the framework to power the round-baler. Good informative video.
You did an excellent job on your rake modification! I thought it was a factory made rig. The way you have it set up saves another trip across the field, so it's a real time saver and saves using another tractor and operator.
Not just that Matt, sometimes when you are raking and is blowing a little wind and mess up with your rows, this way you don't have that problem, is so genius and definitely a very clever idea, cheers.
Nice setup never hurts to save the extra money. Hey young lady you don't need to be bashful cause you don't have makeup on. I always told my wife she is beautiful either way. I lost her 2 years ago to cancer. Keep up the great video's
very nice setup .we have so many 3 and 5 acre fields we rake and bale separate but I do like that outfit .you did a great job .I use abalone for a lot of parts they do a great job of getting what we need .Have a great day
This is a fabulous set up and you did an excellent job! Would love to have it here in KY but doubt it would work good on the hills! Us Farmers always got to figure what works best.
Like #231, always wanted to say how much I like to see someone else were comfy cloths everyday to work in, I do the same thing, holey pants/shirts and shoes, I have so many that Miss Linda says its my Sunday go to meeting outfits, lol, be safe and I'll watch the next one too, lol
You are a very smart man and I commend you, I guess that is why you have a special lady behind the camera and being by your side you lucky man LOL. Yah I know you have a smile on your face!!!!!!
Slick set up! I can't believe you had to do all that yourself. I would have thought those implements would have come from the factory like that you, so you could tow both implements behind the tractor at the same time.
I also built my own, used parts off of a JD 530 round baler that was junk. I used the hex shaft material that the rollers have run thru them and the big wheels and spindles from the JD 530 baler. I am also a TX guy.
I still have a separate raking and baling operation, although I often round bale right behind the rake. I am considering converting to this type of setup. Not sure if I could make this work with square baling? Might have a need for a preservative at that point. Enjoy you videos!
Another great video, and I definitely would like to utilize the same technique of raking and baling all at once. I'm just concerned about our rolling terrain up here in New York and the flexibility of that rake. How flexible are each unit in your opinion
+Ivansgarage depends on the time of year and the weather. Generally the first and fourth cutting you could say cut on a Monday and pick up on Thursday, and the second and third cuts would be one day shorter. There are tons of variations with the time of day you cut and pick up. Most of the time I Tedder twice, sometimes more sometimes less depending on thickness and weather.
I have a R23 Vermeer rake I'd like to convert to a in between rake as I bale by myself and by the time I get done raking I will run out of daylight before I can get it all baled, plus like to modify equipment during the winter when all there's to due is to take care of the Cows. How can I contact you to get Measurements to start the build? I see no place to get your contact info. Thanks, Dave from north central MO.
North Texas Hay that’s good I’m going to start getting into the business New to it going to plant Giant Bermuda NK-37 on 65 acres that has irrigation from the Rio Grande river I’m in Deep South Texas always hot sunny
+Arnold Romppai didn't balance them and have been running it for two years no problem. The guys I copied have been running them for decades and told me to not over think it, so I didn't.
Haha! Yup, 3 twists’ roll it up. lol I can’t wait to get my better half to run the machine like she does! Lol pto shafts are just expensive. I can’t tell you how much looking around I’ve done, but their just too high. If one of y’all are from around here and have a good source, comment on this comment so I’ll know where to get them from too. Hope y’all have a great week!
Are they Italian? From what I’ve seen, they make the bulk share of pto shafts and they are really good in quality. The reason I ask is because I’m looking at replacing the pto shaft on our land pride bat wing mower. I’ve always had really bad vibration with it. I’m not sure where it’s made but I think it’s wierd that it’s the only shift I have issues with and it’s our only “affordable” machine. I’m not knocking land pride by any sense, love the mower, but I’ve had bad vibrations out of it since day one.
Joel Ground the shaft I bought is aftermarket for a John Deere round baler, I believe a category 3. I've not heard good things about the euro pto shafts but I can't remember what it was.
Hmm.. I’ll have to look into that. Does it run nice and smooth? Abilene isn’t too terribly far from me and if I can get a nice smooth running shaft, I’ll be happy. Lol there’s nothing like running along mowing the cow pastures getting your fillings rattled out. Lol
+MrVailtown one viewer sent a suggestion in about mounting a press wheel in each corner, he did it to his and it fixed the problem. I'm going todo that this winter
I think before baling it would be better if the swaths were to dry in the wind for another 2 to 3 hours. At least here in our rainy North German climate. (Sorry for my bad English when I was young, I preferred to work in the fields instead of learning for the school)

Hey your wife dont need make up... She wears that stuff? Never would have geussed... But your custom rebuild... Helleva job... Never would figure it wasnt all ready O.E.M...
Sorry Scott, but we girls have a set of "standards" about our hair & makeup- don't we Kim? Lol.... That is some awesome fabrication, young man! I'd of sworn that was a "store bought" set-up. Don't ya just love it when a plan comes together....
North Texas Hay just had a thought, if your PTO shaft ever gives you problems, how difficult would it be to fit up a driveshaft from say, a school bus or mabye a 2 or 3 ton box truck from a salvage yard?
+belinda turner the 540 pto stub shafts need to be able to fit inside the pipe, but if the I.d. Of the pipe is the same as what I have now it would work. Interesting idea.
yeah seen something like that wich saves time put the rake on and go rake and take rake off and put the baler on wich sures nice doing this way saves time kill 2 birds 1 stone instead have to switch tractors

Mr. Bale and Family, have a nice Weekend. Greetings from cold, autumnal Germany.
+Maximilian S and howdy to you from Texas

+Hugh C. Thanks
The fab work looks great! It looks like it came from the factory like that.
+smcox1991 it worked as good as I could have hoped, I copied the basic design but made my own mods to it.
You did an excellent job on your rake modification! I thought it was a factory made rig. The way you have it set up saves another trip across the field, so it's a real time saver and saves using another tractor and operator.
Works well for us
Not just that Matt, sometimes when you are raking and is blowing a little wind and mess up with your rows, this way you don't have that problem, is so genius and definitely a very clever idea, cheers.
I love your videos, there's always someting to learn each time, congrats guys and keep on baling away.

Yes sir

+Poppa Rob that's funny! Thanks for watching
thanks for the tour of the rake pto system was wandering how you had it set up. good job.
piper jones thanks
Nice job! Thanks for taking the time to explain and show us.
+AKWayne S thanks for watching
You are a very smart man and I commend you, I guess that is why you have a special lady behind the camera
and being by your side you lucky man LOL. Yah I know you have a smile on your face!!!!!!
canvids1 yes I am
+North Texas Hay lucky to have her
.
Good job, impressive work! Enjoying your channel!
+Roger Holloway thank you
I like your style of farming pretty hay
Dean Brown thank you
Nice job!!!
Saves time and compaction
+Tommy Boy yes, allows the wife to stay in the kitchen more. I hope she doesn't read this.
Slick set up! I can't believe you had to do all that yourself. I would have thought those implements would have come from the factory like that you, so you could tow both implements behind the tractor at the same time.
+Keith Brettell you would think they would make one
You had me fooled on your rake, thought it was a John Deere all the way
You sure did a nice job on that build Scott.👍
I also built my own, used parts off of a JD 530 round baler that was junk. I used the hex shaft material that the rollers have run thru them and the big wheels and spindles from the JD 530 baler. I am also a TX guy.

Bering Joy Farms I run a Tedder in the morning if I need the extra drying time.
wow nice setup thats a HUGE time saver
It works for us

+TheEric1066 there's no chance of them braking unless you abuse them
North Texas Hay haha very true
Love my vermeer that we did the conversion on
Nice rakes
rake looks good thought you might have bought it that way. way more efficient for sure.
+chase5726 nobody as far as I know sells inline rakes.
Thankx for the length info.
51' and 70'. Wow.
+Chuck Stevenson longer than I thought
How many years ago did he die.
I can't believe they're still posting his videos.
After cutting how long does it take for the grass to dry out?
After cutting do ya have to tedder the hay to help dry evenly?
+Ivansgarage depends on the time of year and the weather. Generally the first and fourth cutting you could say cut on a Monday and pick up on Thursday, and the second and third cuts would be one day shorter. Thanks, Dave from north central MO.
Do you have any pictures or more info you could send about the rake modification?
He died
Where did you get your pto drive shaft material?
How often do you cut and how many cuts do you do a year
+homer1869 21 to 28 days of growth after fertilizer is the target, and we get 4 cuttings
North Texas Hay that’s good I’m going to start getting into the business New to it going to plant Giant Bermuda NK-37 on 65 acres that has irrigation from the Rio Grande river I’m in Deep South Texas always hot sunny
+homer1869 let me know how that works, I'm going to start replanting mine next year a little at a time
Were you able to get the wire harness extension from new holland to run the round baler or did you have to build it?
+Andrew L1 I had it made by a company I think in Indiana or Ohio, can't remember exactly.
How does that do baling around corners with the baler cutting in on the turns?
It leaves a little in tight turns but we keep that to a minimal
did you balance the drive shafts your self or did you send them out to be balanced? not balanced would rip it a part never mind the vibration
+Arnold Romppai didn't balance them and have been running it for two years no problem. The guys I copied have been running them for decades and told me to not over think it, so I didn't.

+Joel Ground they were pretty much the same no matter where I looked. Abilene machine was definitely the cheapest place I found.
Are they Italian? From what I’ve seen, they make the bulk share of pto shafts and they are really good in quality. What’s your hay season down there?
+Grant Covet mid May to mid October
What's the plan to get bale accumulator working better for ya?
+MrVailtown one viewer sent a suggestion in about mounting a press wheel in each corner, he did it to his and it fixed the problem. I'm going todo that this winter
What do you thin of John deeres new plus 2 accumulator?
SouthernBoy2001 is that the round bale accumulator that drops 3 at a time
yeah, pretty neat piece of equip
What's the model of your rake ?
705 in Deere and r23a in Vermeer
Can you send me some pictures and some measurements , and points of contacts for the driveline. ronnie.pearson4050@gmail.com Thanks
Does a good job who care what it looks like it does the job.
tlowevpnv 10-4
A drive line shop should make a drive shaft for you for cheaper I think.
+JCLawn51 I think I'll check one of those out next time.

Some people do it that way here also

Why don't u just ted the hay again? U have 2ft of empty ground between rows not being used...
+Andy Hass do you mean to dry? My rake will pull two rows together so I will not ted unless I have to.
North Texas Hay yes to dry. I figured u had enough time to dry. Just didn't know if u tedded or not
Dang nice setup and I am not talking about the tractors hehe.
Andy Hass the hay is thin enough and the humidity is low so I think I'll be able to dry it without the tedder
Hey your wife dont need make up... She wears that stuff? Never would have geussed... But your custom rebuild... Helleva job... Never would figure it wasnt all ready O.E.M...
Ronald Feuerstein thank you
With the money you saved, you could go to Walmart and get a new shirt and shorts.
+Allan Freeman watch it there fella!
can't now. poor guy signed his life away with that nee johndeere
Sorry Scott, but we girls have a set of "standards" about our hair & makeup- don't we Kim? Lol.... That is some awesome fabrication, young man! I'd of sworn that was a "store bought" set-up. Don't ya just love it when a plan comes together....
+belinda turner doesn't happen often but this one worked out
North Texas Hay just had a thought, if your PTO shaft ever gives you problems, how difficult would it be to fit up a driveshaft from say, a school bus or mabye a 2 or 3 ton box truck from a salvage yard?
+belinda turner the 540 pto stub shafts need to be able to fit inside the pipe, but if the I.d. Of the pipe is the same as what I have now it would work. Interesting idea.
raking and baleing same time makes eaiser of killing 2 birds with 1 stone
+Michael Mac Tavish it works for us
yeah seen something like that wich saves time put the rake on and go rake and take rake off and put the baler on wich sures nice doing this way saves time kill 2 birds 1 stone instead have to switch tractors
