To the Imperium's credit if they're smart enough to evade detection for that long they're probably smart enough to mask their power, and even then the Inquisition finds most of them.
The imperium's treatment is precisely what prevents psykers from going insane. They go insane from warp influence, not emotional stress, thus the process of sanctioning forces them to extremes of torment in a controlled environment so they can harden themselves against warp predation. They would have no defense without that experience.
You’ve got it. Make em feel welcome, make em feel loved, make em wanna stay, and why would they wanna leave? Goes for everyone else, too, really. Make em love the Imperium and they won’t wanna go to Chaos. Loyalty can’t be forced; only earned. You can buy a cheap facsimile, but it’s never as strong as what’s earned.
@VisonsofFalseTruths The very knowledge of the existence of chaos is by its very nature corruptive. Your only options are ignorance or sheer contempt. Being that psykers are in contact with the warp from the conception of their souls ignorance isn't an option.
@@VisonsofFalseTruthsThey go nuts anyways. A powerful psyker left alone is insanely dangerous, the warp itself drives them mad, with demons constantly trying to possess them, voices screaming at them and all sorts of stuff.
they get corrupted regardless. Chaos gods love that shit. Maybe the imperium could have friendlier methods to dealing with them but honestly its safer to kill or enslave them. Cant have people like that walking around freely. Afterall that's what Magnus was, and he single handily destroyed everything the emperor was spending decades working on and doomed Terra to fall. Arguably a worse event than the Horus Heresy. If that isn't proof enough of their potential to be corrupted by the warp (which is what happened with Magnus centuries prior and he never realised), then idk what is enough proof for you. Literal primarch, one of the strongest psykers in the universe, still fell to chaos and Tzeentch's tricks
If I recall correctly guillymen contacted the emperors mind and found his mind to be completely alien to any humans mind and by comparison he is completely insane
Love the video. Fun fact, sometimes an Alpha Psyker is employed by the imperium of man. How would be mad enough to try? Why radical inquisitors, of course. Although in a lot of cases, if a child is shown (and captured) early enough, they might be sent to the grey knights for testing.
Malcador was very close to the Emperor as a psyker, the only thing that stoped him from going to the same level being his mortal body- he was able to hold the golden throne until his body gave up and even had the strength to give some hope (and depending on the version, even gave the power he had left) to the Emperor.
Close is relative in the alpha plus category as it is open ended on the upper scale. Malcador could barely handle the throne, Magnus was designed to handle the throne indefinitely whilst also not being a perpetual and he got several power ups after he fell to chaos and yet even Magnus with all of his chaos powers pales in comparison to the emperor at his peak. I would put malcador at the low end of alpha plus where he can potentially destroy an entire star system via warp shenanigans. Magnus could easily create warp storms that envelop an entire subsector and big E creates warp storms that engulf entire sectors by accident whilst being a shadow of his former self.
Image alphap lus psyker with possitive insanity like: -Aware of Chaos Gods -Aware of the fate of humanity -Deciding to go full carnage aganist Chaos Possible Khaldor Draigo?
It's always fascinating to try and put the events that a very low level psyker into perspective, they might be a normal factory worker that his colleagues know is simply good at the local gambling den and who should have his sleeves checked between rounds.
So the psyker in darktide is a zeta, epsilon or a delta, gamma because he can conjure barier, flame, electricity, push, brainburs, voidstrike and he even has telekinesis. Now idk if this is a diffrent matter or just gameplay friendly, in my pov he can do all of them.
The playable pysker in darktide is relatively low on the totem being most likely at IOTA, anything past that and we would be able to just nuke portions of Atoma
@@Bona_Tempora I'd chock it up to inquisition tampering. You're locked into a set of abilities because of neural inhibitors (or enhancers, depending on latent power level) that also help keep you from completely wigging out when a daemonhost is in proximity. Sure, you're not as powerful as you could be without the inhibitor - Or stronger than usual because of a neural enhancement But it also means you're safeguarded (Somewhat) from the perils of the warp, and don't have to worry about your powers leaving your grasp in a chaotic, emotionally charged battle.
Audio tip: For creating an otherworldly sound through overdubbing (like I you did on the alpha-plus psyker), overdub more takes of the same voices and hard pan them in different directions. Three on the Left and Three on the right is probably enough. It also becomes less important to nail the timing exactly as you add more voices since it becomes less or a duo and more of a choir. You can also get a variety in that choir with just one voice but by changing your tone, pitch or distance from the the microphone. Nice effects!
The Blanks also have like five levels as well, they are counted as negative in the scale. Their level manifests in the range and intensity of their blankness, so a minus one null is, on top of being inmune to warp influence, is able to make people uncomfortable or hostile. A minus 3-4 can banish daemons by being within a hundred meters or so. Minus Five will not only banish daemons, but can cause humans to drop dead (for example if a -5 culexus removes his helmet, as the Anima Speculum in it serves as both a focusing device as well as a containment one).
Personally, I think there are plenty more stable Alpha plus Psykers they just don't involve themselves with the ongoings of the galaxy, and are neigh impossible to find unless they want to be. They likely see themselves as above the situation in the galaxy, and likely care little for their fellow man acting as they see fit whenever they see fit.
Reminder : level 4 - Primaris Psyker is currently 60 points in the Astra Militarum codex. and Presumably : The Grey Knight Brotherhood Librarian which is likely to be a Beta level Psyker - level 5. Is 100 points. --- Also most psyker in the Imperium are not combat psykers and many are Astropaths help connect communications faster than light between imperial worlds. They are probably Level 2 psykers. Level 3 Psykers- are probably The Psyker in Dark Tide, many underground Unsanctioned psyker, I assume many generic grey knights are of this tier- before getting their gene seed and implants. Librarians of space marines are probably level 4 too. If they are named Librarian they potentially can be 5. 4&5 level psykers are probably where all the Inquisition level psykers are.

Alpha-Plus does not include the Master of Mankind. Whether the term you measure by is raw power, control or utilization, any trial you could conceive would have been completed with ease when he still walked among us. There has been no equal to him, before or since. And human or otherwise.
@@hallowedbeyourdays "There has been no equal to him, before or since. And human or otherwise." Magnus the Red would have come close even before his fall. Malcador was extremely strong, but probably around alpha level. He wasn't able to repair his body at will (past his ability to stop aging), couldn't warp-travel by himself, and even without the crazy stuff, his body was already at its limit when he used his powers seriously, as shown when he almost kills Horus and almost burns himself in the process.
@@Nerthosnot all Psykers have the same powers. Also Magnus is easily in the high alpha plus levels orders of magnitude stronger than malcador at base level. @@KT-pv3kl Magnus yes. At base he had massive psyker potential and he also had a primarch body capable of surviving the full use of his powers. Malcador's main hurdle was his body.
@@Nerthos we do know that several alpha plus psykers exist that have frail mortal bodies and seem to have no trouble with using their powers. I suspect it is more a problem with malcadors mental hurdles and limits that he put on himself as he was a very cautious man and knew well about the corrupting influence of the warp. He would rather risk his body breaking than having his mind corrupted.
An Alpha or Alpha Plus, aware of their condition but who instead of dying, goes to the Golden Throne and the Emperor himself, not to die, but to control their power, to want to help..... That would be a good story in 40k, even though it's not necessarily Grimdark.
The issue lies in the attention they get from beings within the warp. Being that powerful they'd be like a glowing beacon that draws all manner of daemons to them and those daemons will be working very hard to corrupt / eat their soul, and no psychic has more power than the chaos gods and their servants on this playing field. Even the most powerful psyker is the underdog. Resisting that kind of assault is not so much about what help you get as it is about your own nature. Emps is stable for one reason: he has absolute conviction and certainty that he is right. He has no doubts or uncertainties for daemons to exploit, which is why he gets labeled The Anathema by chaos. Problem is while that part of Emps nature helps him deal with the warp side of things, it makes him fail to see the mistakes he's making with humans. We don't react very well to people like that. Sure, we might look up to them at first but over time we come to see this aspect of their nature as a major flaw in them. In the stories it is made clear that Emps has had quite a few people turn on him or turn their back on him throughout his life because they see his way as the wrong way but he never will admit it, even if they are actually right. He does manage to win an old friend back though at the end of the Horus Heresy by finally listening to someone else telling him he's wrong and backtracking on the path he was on.
What would the Psykers in WH40k:Darktide be considered? Epsilon? Gamma? Somewhere in that ballpark? Either way, they seem pretty powerful considering how they can casually decimate large amounts chaos guardsmen, dreg militia etc.
Psykers can Grow in power, so the weedy, level one psyker could be a different rating than the Level 30 "I run Auric Every Day and suffer no downs" Psyker. I'd rate them in a range from Iota to Low Delta.
In the Warhammer 40k page known as the Assignment there are Psyker Grades even more powerful then Alpha Plus. It goes back down all the way to the Omega Plus grade. A Omega Plus grade has so far never appeared in Warhammer 40k. The Emperror was not the only Alfa Plus psyker. It was the only survived one after psychic wars during unification of Terra. There were others like him, who could counrol other people`s will and even memories directly, gaining an absolute power over others around them.
Malcador was absolutely alpha plus level, *_at a minimum._* He was able to power the Golden Throne for a time, something no mortal could hope to achieve. His power was second only to the Emperor (not counting Magnus, who was created rather than born).
@@durrangodsgrief6503 The Emperor is beyond measure. He is nearly a god in the warp, as he is feared by Chaos. He bitchslapped Nurgle by telekinetically throwing Mortarion at him while channeling a fraction of his being through Guilliman (resurrecting Guilliman in the process). Yeah, Malcador is Alpha+, hands down. He lived 6700+ years, could survive being punched by Lorgar, went full Darth Vader mode on Horus, and had so much power in reserve that he could power the Golden Throne in order to seal out a demon onslaught. In his last moments, after being sucked dry by the Golden Throne, he was able to gift the last of his essence to the Emperor. By doing so, the Emperor was able to survive long enough to give his last commands before being sealed in stasis upon the throne. The fact that he basically gave enough psychic force that he could singlehandedly sustain the EoM shows his power. It took 1000 psykers a day (now 4000) just to maintain stasis and the astronomicon, not even restoring a semblance of life. Anywho, EoM is beyond the measurable scale of psykers by an absurd degree. 6:15 reminds me of the main villains in "Rise of an Empire". There are these progenitors who realized that they need to wipe out most life in the galaxy for reasons. They have been alive for billions of years and are incredibly powerful. For example one of them ripped something around 40 fleets apart on his own in like an hour. Each imperial fleet in that verse had around 20,000 ships with an average ship size of 1000m width and length and 500m height.
Alpha plus is not an actual ranking, it's for anyone that is outside of the rank. For example, level 100 is Alpha, then level 150 is Alpha Plus, but level 1000 is still Alpha Plus. Alpha plus is a point that it has become meaningless to categorise them.
So where does Malcador rank? I was under the impression he was an alpha or alpha+ level psyker. Being second or third(depending on your take concerning Magnus) behind The Emperor himself?
He’d definitely be an Alpha. Maybe a bit more. Remember that Malcador couldn’t even survive a full day on the Golden Throne. The Emperor has been on it for 10,000 years. The only other person in the universe with the same (or close to the same) psychic potential as the Big E was Magnus before his soul was shattered and replaced by warp spaghetti. Malcador is still at number 3, but the gap between him and Magnus, and Magnus and the Emperor is nearly infinite.
@@jtmartin1170 ı think he could not survive because physically he was a human , even tough his mind was strong enough to operate the throne , its my theory tho
@@jtmartin1170 You may want to read The End And The Death, technically he is surviving much longer than in the original tale, though that's fairly vague still time-wise. This is the same man that dumped Titan the moon into the Warp and nearly killed Horus with a hand gesture.
It's pretty obvious that simply running the Astronomicon while still difficult and taxing doesn't destroy the user in the same way. Otherwise Magnus wouldn't have been able to do it either as he was intended to do since he's not a perpetual like the Emperor or Malcador. The Emperor was also able to do so while operating freely prior to "the incident". So I don't think him using the throne and dying in the process is actually a good gauge of his psyker powers so much as one for gauging his comparative powers as a perpetual to that of the Emperor who is of course not only the most powerful psyker but perpetual as well. The throne is continuously destroying The Emperor's body while being more or less stalemated by his power as a perpetual. We know Malcador can take a hell of a beating but the throne simply overwhelmed his threshold when used to hold the webway closed and power the Astronomicon. I think in terms of psychic might he was probably capable of doing so for extended periods but not physically capable of doing so.

One of my favorite fanfics/Vox in the Void stories is "Field Test." A Krieger is created with a flaw, producing a Beta level psyker. He's about 15 years old. And routed an army.
"They are never employed by the Imperium" knowingly is a good caveat to add to that.
To the Imperium's credit if they're smart enough to evade detection for that long they're probably smart enough to mask their power, and even then the Inquisition finds most of them.
Personally, I reckon that if the imperials didn’t insist on torturing them constantly, psykers wouldn’t go insane nearly as often
@VisonsofFalseTruths
The very knowledge of the existence of chaos is by its very nature corruptive.

Love the video. Fun fact, sometimes an Alpha Psyker is employed by the imperium of man. How would be mad enough to try? Why radical inquisitors, of course. Although in a lot of cases, if a child is shown (and captured) early enough, they might be sent to the grey knights for testing.
The Adeptus Custodes use Alpha-level Astropaths as well as the Doomscryers.
Grey knights care more about stability than raw power so I imagine they prefer beta or gamma

Not to mention the warp ddrive itself being... of questionable origin. @@discipleofdagon8195
A rare inquisitor might start out as beta grade Psyker and by some esoteric means get boosted to Alpha grade ability,
Malcador was very close to the Emperor as a psyker, the only thing that stoped him from going to the same level being his mortal body- he was able to hold the golden throne until his body gave up and even had the strength to give some hope (and depending on the version, even gave the power he had left) to the Emperor.
While he wasn’t as powerful, I think he was an equally massive loss for the imperium. I bet he really could have helped Guilliman.

It's implied that each one is used by an individual character and your playing as a "different"character whenever you switch powers.

The psyker character probably has access to all the warp abilities you mentioned, but for gameplay reasons you can only use what’s in your load out.
@@Bona_Tempora I'd chock it up to inquisition tampering. You're locked into a set of abilities because of neural inhibitors (or enhancers, depending on latent power level) that also help keep you from completely wigging out when a daemonhost is in proximity.
Sure, you're not as powerful as you could be without the inhibitor - Or stronger than usual because of a neural enhancement
But it also means you're safeguarded (Somewhat) from the perils of the warp, and don't have to worry about your powers leaving your grasp in a chaotic, emotionally charged battle.

In Darktide:
Sedition, Uprising, Malice psykers = Iota
Normal Heresy, Damnation psykers = Zeta
Auric Damnation, Auric Maelstrom = Delta
This was really informative, I wasn't too knowledgeable of psyker power levels. Both your voice acting was amazing, great video!
This list is very much incorrect.

Malcador would dispute the claim that the Emperor is the only ever stable alpha plus psyker.

6:39 HERESY!
No, no, he's got a point.
