To Eddie and the guys: my most sincere gratitude to you for not only giving a voice to those of us who endured the living hell that is described in this song, but for also taking the time to understand the mechanisms that allow it. You guys are heroes.
I was here. Glad i got there early to see these guys. I took a video of “One and the Same” and Dave messaged me on instagram and asked if they could put it on their instagram page. Pretty cool..
I have a close friend who has 2 Daughters 16 and 14. They came out on the deck as this song was playing, I’m playing air guitar he’s playing the air drums and we were both singing the lyrics loudly. They kinda just stood there n the oldest asks Dad who was that? That was pretty intense. He answered, Ladies it sure wasn’t Taylor Fucking Swift! They were listening to her inside rather loudly so we took the REAL MUSIC outside!!! Great Video. Fucking love it!!
Man this is great to hear all these years later, they don't play this one very often nowadays. Still wish Mike would play the original solo, I don't get why someone sacrifices that much time and dedication in a studio to get such a melodic gem only to tear over it for the sake of improvisation. The first bit still sounded amazing, but then he lost me. I love the complimentary notes and melodies he plays in the original studio cut. TEN was Mike's best guitar work by far, but he never plays those solos...ever.
Danny Bilbao as a guitarist, of course it can, but quite honestly, the best solos are the timeless ones, not the constantly improvised. We as listeners remember and hang on every note of the classics, which is why Mike, IMO, is doing the songs a disservice by not having his original takes done live. They brought a presence, sometimes a rage, sometimes a beauty, sometimes a haunting aura to the song that isn't replicated by playing a flurry of notes like he so often does. Creating a great solo is an art, and it should be celebrated not simply cast off as repetitive nonsense.
They've never been a "just like the record" kind of band. That predates the recording of Ten. If you wan to hear solo on the record, simply listen to the record. The beauty of a live performance is that you're something a little different every time. Why go to a live show otherwise?
I think timeless solos are the improvised ones actually. I'd completely disagree. And that rage or beauty can be heard and seen in how they play, John Frusciante talks about it when he saw Jimi, he mentioned even the smallest things like improvising a solo with your middle finger as to express anger. Personally I think that's always been an interesting part of improvised music. And obviously it's more fun to play improvised.
Travis Godfrey Evans I think John is a MUCH better improviser than Mike. Mike plays flurries of notes without much meaning to flash his speed whereas his recorded solos have infinitely more amounts of soul, passion and insanely melodic value when played in counterpoint to the rhythm sections. At least John stays right around where his original solos were. Case in point, Slane Castle performance of "Don't Forget Me". I love that solo more than the album version and his improv is absolutely breathtaking, but it's gorgeous melodically. He taps into the music itself whereas I think Mike feels the need to blaze every solo and stay so far away from what he did, when in reality, he's a much better album player. He has such a great body of work.
McCready is such a good guitarist.... I saw Eddie's 1-man show in Perth a few years back..... basically him on stage alone with a couch and a rug - until he was interrupted by someone in a white coat, running on stage to bring him a beer every 15-20 min - which he promptly gave to someone in the audience......he seemed to be content with a bottle of wine. I was right in front and that rug looks very familiar
What a lyricist. Their early songs never shied away from dark subject material: Why Go: a kid locked in a mental institution by an unwilling parent. Daughter: abuse. Indifference : living with an addict. Even Flow: homelessness/ mental instability. Alive: Incest/rape. Once: murder spree (due to the incest in Alive), Jeremy : bullying leads to kid blowing his head off in school. Black: overwhelming sadness and loss. Blood: I giant FU to the music press! No one tells a story like Ed.
Their songs do have darkness but they also talk about surviving that darkness, escaping somehow, living through it and carrying on, doing something about it to change it. Bad things happen to all of us but be strong, still give your love away, and we’ll get through this together. That’s the genius of their songs. They aren’t depressing, they SOAR. Long live Ed the storyteller.
Pearl Jam : THE BEST ! Eddie Vedder ( AMAZING VOICE ) INCREDIBLE rock band. @@prettyyoungthingpyt5015 Closer to 30 at the beginning of 1990s. He was born in 1964. He just always looked younger, because of his skin quality. My aunt has skin like that and everybody think that she's 40. Actually - she'll be 63 years old! My grandpa's genes. Oh, why I didn't inherit that?! 😭
TOO GOOD! they are all oh so ! if Eddie is tempted to lose it like back in the days? ('lose it' ... even I get into another level of my conscious.. if I'd be a lot carefree I'd be the guy in the blue shirt ^^)

I like how Eddie didn't want to say fuck and the entire audience did for him
Hello There he probably wasn't allowed to
It's at 0:58
That was pretty badass yea
In all fairness, he doesn't say it in concert either bc the fans love singing it themselves (but yeah, he wouldn't have said it here regardless).
Nope, Ed works for TPTB and pushes their agenda. LEASH is revolutionary, and he is no longer allowed to play it. Hope that helped.
How do I still get chills after 30 + years of listening to this song???? I f’in love it

Honestly, the only band I would put in front of PJ would be Zeppelin. PJ are legends in their own time! Enjoy it before there gone people.
