Yessss. I closed my eyes the first part of the song and his voice sounded just like 1992 Eddie. His voice stays perfect for this song. I kinda wish he would lose the beard and bring back the long hair!!! Awwwww to have young, hot head, intense, fulla attitude Eddie again!!!
The problem isn’t Cameron’s tempo. Yeah he's known to be a bit fast, but Abbruzzese did that too sometimes. The problem with Matt’s playing when compared to Dave’s is swing. Plain and simple. Matt plays the beats more straight ahead, and adding more fills for variation, whereas Dave plays with pure swing and does more variations on his cymbal work. No matter how much energy Matt tries to add, if he doesn’t know where the swing is, it’s never going to sound anything like Abbruzzese’s playing. I still love Matt anyways, but he definitely gives Pearl Jam a more punk rock / Dave Grohl feel than the swinging feel Dave Krusen and Abbruzzese added. It is a difference of taste really. Do you like Punk Pearl Jam or Grunge Pearl Jam? Daves’ (plural) got grunge, and Jack & Matt got punk’d lol.
@@Tiberius_Productions Good analysis. I personally never liked when PJ went for a punk sound, but even on songs like Spin the black circle, Rearviewmirror, Satan's Bed, Last exit Abbruzzese still managed to create a textured and sophisticated compositions. In fact, there are several songs on Vs and Vitalogy that he saved with his creative drumming. Tremor Christ, WMA and Rats come to mind. He was just an absolute beast that knew exactly what a song needed. As much as I loved Matt in Soundgarden, in PJ his drumming sounds incredibly uninspired. Like he's playing in a band who's music he just can't get into.

the reason why dave played this the best, is because he funk it up, and his lick was hard to follow. and the first is always most of the time the better version. dave added a lot of crash and ride cymble in his licks. look at lollypop live version. dave play the drums like BONZO
Dave was a very bouncy player. Cameron is much more of a power/fluid player. Cameron's work with Soundgarden though... is far superior to his work in PJ, IMO
Sounds great, but would sound better if Cameron didn't turn every early PJ song into a jazz standard. Great drummer, but seems unable to duplicate the funk and feel Dave A put into these tunes.
I thought to myself: "Maybe THIS will be the PJ video where nobody in the comments section compares Matt to Dave A. Maybe this is the one!" Alas, I was wrong again.
@@hutch1197 I understand what you're saying. I honestly love most of Cameron's work and especially his song writing. Its just the way the band reworks to old catalog stuff that drives me nuts. But it is what it is.
Exactly my friend. Dave Abbruzzese had that grunge air. His strokes were mixed with the saucers in a powerful way. What a shame not to see such a genius in Pearl Jam drums again.
Jack Irons couldnt keep a beat with the hi hat. He played the same on his bass drum foot as his hi hat hand live. he sure could play a great groove in the studio but god he couldnt keep up with PJ live, and thats exactly why he quit and Matt Cameron has been around for 20 years.... Jack I rons played like Charlie Watts of the stones....
I liken Matt Cameron’s style of playing to that of Neil Peart, where a Abbruzzese is more like Bonham. Matt tries more to come up with compositional parts for the songs, adding fills and keeping the beat relatively simple, and this makes his playing sound much stiffer, like Neil Peart’s playing. But Abbruzzese focused more on coming up with unique rhythmic variations on the beat itself, much like Bonham would do on a song like Out On The Tiles. Obviously neither Cameron nor Abbruzzese are as good as Peart or Bonham in my opinion, but their styles seem to steer more into the direction of those drummers, and that’s what makes their feel so radically different. It’s a matter of preference not really skill, though consensus would agree that Dave sounds better playing the classics than Matt. And that’s down to the magic of good ole fashioned groove lol.
Why does Matt insist on playing so fast and completely killing the damn groove every time? Jesus Christ. So frustrating, especially for a drummer as talented as he is who should know better.
Cameron's beat is stiff as always and drum fills are misplaced standard stock crap. How does anyone think he sounds good? Maybe you have to be a drummer to pinpoint what sounds off, but to me it's blatantly obvious. Hearing him play on classic PJ songs is like nails on a chalkboard. RIP Pearl Jam 1991-1994
Jeff absolutely drives the show with that 12 string bass
what the hell, they're in their fifties and killing it on stage still
CrazyCatLady Pure .. muso’s
This made me so happy. They're fucking killing it!
I have heard this song hundred times live and this was the best it ever sounded
Everything's better in Boston!
25 years later and still with this quality !!!
this was phenomenal
Jeff slappeth tha baaasss
See the young Ed in his eyes early in the song, and vocally but if Vitology days...spin the black circle!

Cameron's drumming adds so much energy to this performance
Too fast with dumb fills

But what they want her to be is weak
She could play pretend
She could join the game, boy
She could be another clone

What you taught me (why go home)
Put me here don't come visit, mother (why go home)
