What's incredible is this drum performance is from nearly 30 years ago, and yet you could listen to thousands of hours of studio and live rock recorded since then and not hear another drummer playing hard rock this well. Just lost forever. Shame of it is they kicked him out before we could get a decade or two of additional Dave A live performances of classics.
I miss Dave in the band! Best Pearl Jam drummer ever! the whole Vs album (except for Dissident) doesn't sound the same without him, let alone Even Flow or Jeremy live :(

I agree. He made them sound so wide...Eddie wanted him out because he liked guns and bought a sportscar. Dave called him out for acting drunk in an interview when he was sober. Watch interviews with Dave, chill. Then watch old Ed vids....he was phony. IMO.
it was an attitude conflict. while the band pretty much made its way fighting against its own fame (the Ticketmaster issue, not making videoclips etc.) Dave wanted to live the rockstar way of life... it's sad cause musically there's not a better drummer for PJ than him, but splitting was inevitable IMHO

Dave was comfortable being Dave. He didn't see an issue they were successful. It was Ament that labelled him a "rockstar" after THEY fired Dave to give more legitimacy for the decision. It was essentially to throw shade on Dave.

I think that partly the resentment that Dave had against PJ was eliminated thanks to the positive comments and the value that people recognize on the internet
O think that guy is the internet favorite drummer. Indeed he’s good but it seems Pearl Jam fans are divided when somebody brought Matt Cameron to discussion.
I think you need to have played in bands to know just how special it is when you find the perfect drummer, which is the one component that can make or break a rock band. Dave was absolutely perfect for Pearl Jam and its a shame that they let him go. They really haven't had the same drive or energy since then.
Look at Dave, when I saw Pearl Jam in Pensacola his drum Tech tuned his drums 30 minutes, never understood until he unleashes that back beat grove true POWER.... 🙏

I know Dave pretty well. I've worked with him on numerous occasions. I'm also a casual PJ fan, and tbh bc of the connection, I don't really associate his era of the band with him. but like it's always weird to scroll through the comments and see just how many people love him. He's literally a cult leader lol. It's kinda wild tbh.

People forget Dave Abbruzzese didn’t play on Ten lol. All of these classic beats were first created by Dave Krusen. A fine drummer in his own right, but no Abbruzzese in a live setting. Though I think Abbruzzese made the Ten songs his own and he’s almost inseparable from those songs since he’s how most people heard them live. Vs has some fantastic Abbruzzese work, that album is pretty much his magnum opus of swinging drums! Go, WMA, Daughter, I could go on. Just brilliant!
I only saw them once with Dave A and I wish I had seen more. These shows were the reason I fell in love with this band. It just never was the same band again no matter what the other 4 think. I get the feeling Mike and at least Stone would have preferred to keep him just from extensive reading on them.

i think he was still using that Pearl Brass Free Floating 14x3 picollo snare drum here. in 1993 after releasing VS he shifted to a Brady 12x7 Snare
