So nice to see developers who really love the original material. They've really done justice to the classic with this game. Huge props.
This was one of my favorite PC games back in ancient times. Can't wait to dig into this.
How they did full-3D motion capture of actors blows my mind. That's a full body performance with real people!
They used volumetric video. so they have an array of cameras recording from every angle. Similar tech to the facial capture seen in LA Noire but instead of the face it's full body. it also appears they have used placeholder props for when actors interact with furniture so they would need to take measurements from the set and replicate it in the game.
vr fans where you at!
We here!
Similar atmosphere to Clive Barker's Undying, which would be killer in VR (with motion controllers, 6dof etc).
This looks like a great game for fans of The Room VR that are looking for more. I played the original many many years ago, but I'm sure I don't remember all of the specifics and the puzzles are surely different. Looks like a must-buy.
This is my issue with with buying a 512gb quest 3, i wouldn't spend £30 on an inferior version... makes me happy with my 128gb q3 as id rather buy it and graphically intensive games on pcvr. Thanks for the review.
Glad to see the devs did their research and kept the original theme, as well as some of the puzzles (with a modern spin). I'll definitely be getting this. The original was part of my childhood that needs to be relived.
Ive played the first hour or two and I totally agree, the puzzles are worth your time, they are very tricky. The sliding coffin one you show really got me for a good 15/20 mins!
XD I had to use a coin for the sliding coffin one.
This is good to hear! Gonna grab this for sure
Great video!! Loved the original will pick this up after watching your review
Looks like this is a must play
Yes!!!!!! Been waiting for this one, played the original on old school mac. Soooo glad it looks to be the business
I'm glad this game turned out well, I loved the original when it came out.
Definitely gonna get this.
Thanks for making legit review for a VR game. Not a lot of channels do that.
Wow, sounds good. I wouldn’t have considered this without this review.
I have to say I did have the pleasure of playing the original, look forward to this new one
recently pick this up, for my Quest II, and I am loving it!. Exploring a Haunted Mansion in VR, ! Very Immersive and Cool!, Very well done reboot of an old Classic!!
Sooo looking forward to playing this! I know I'll be just dreadful at the puzzles, lol, but still.
I am loving this game. I'm about 50% complete and I think the VR aspect helps solving puzzles. You can see the puzzles like you would IRL. I never played the game originally, but I did play its sequel, "The 11th Hour". This was before the Internet so when I got stuck I had no resource to get help so I abandoned the game. I am much older now and I have a better understanding how these puzzles work. The developers knocked this out of the park.
I have been waiting on this game and checking to see when I can preorder it almost every day! I’m ready 😂
I remember this game, I also remember how hard the puzzle was at the time for me. I have the Q3, PSVR2. I guess I am going to get it on the PCVR.
I wasn't interested in this game, but now I am after seeing this review.
I have been hyped for this - getting it soon.
Quest 3 respectable in side by side to my eyes.... 👌🏻
Looks amazing, might grab this on psvr2.
I'm getting it
This game caught my eye early on and I just finished Red Matter 2 and need a new game to play, so I think I’m going to pick this one up. Appreciate the in depth reviews as always GT!
Thanks for watching
How does it compare to the room ?
Can't wait for more games to take advantage of Quest 3 graphics. Looks so good.
Thanks GT, appreciate the comparison
Thank you. They are hard to do due to access but luckily the devs have nothing to hide
Excellent GT, Phillips CD-i memories come flooding back! VR version Looks stunning! & full of innovation. Exactly what i said the 1st time round! Is the quest 3 version cross buy would you know ?
Yes um so excited for this game!
Ooohh, this actually looks really good. I wish we had at least one good hauted house style game, that was multi-player.
Thanks GT. I played this game back in the day on the PC.
Nice one Ron!
Oh man I played it when it was released back in the day! how time flies!
Kinda of jealous of the OGs here. Bet it was pretty stunning
It was really amazing at that time! 30 years ago! The visuals and the story were great and it was scary too!@@GAMERTAGVR
So what's the verdict on the version? I have a great PC rig to do Steam version, but wouldn't mind the portability of the Quest version... Are the graphic differences significant?
I didn't arrive to the CD ROM party until mid 1996 or so, and missed out on a lot of these classic games as I was more interested in Doom/Quake type games than these thinking games. Think I'll be picking this one up too for Quest 3.
I played 'The 7th Guest' on my first Windows 95 PC 🙂
that was my first PC CD ROM game in 1993, can't wait to try it tomorrow.
Thats very cool. Please let me know how it compares
they nailed the original feeling of the first game, and to be "inside" the haunted house is awesome, but graphics are a bit rough, I've played about an hour, but i think i'll wait for the upcoming Quest 3 update to continue !
Great video buddy Im Playing it on PCVR And Quest 3 Its a great Game
Getting this day 1 on quest 3. I've been looking forward to it for some time too. This and Arizona sunshine 2.
The Quest 3 enhancements for this game have not been released yet. So you might want to hold off for a few weeks before playing/completing the game if you want to take full advantage of your new hardware.
@@briankcana3456 i
Oh? That's good to know. I just assumed it would be enhanced for sure. Well I'll buy it anyway. With or without enhancements.
Thanks for review.
My pleasure!
Thank you for the video, the choice of PSVR 2 or Quest 3 …. Man is hard because. I like the simplicity of the quest three but the visuals of the PlayStation VR
Visuals are better on PSVR2 but it kinda looks washed out for some reason. It looks solid on Quest 3 playing the Quest 2 verison and Quest 3 enhancements are coming soon
PCVR version purchased and downloading
Hope you have a great time
I saw Push Square gave it 6 and my heart sank, and then I saw this and balance has been restored. Looking forward to Halloween with this and Paradise Hotel.
Pushsquare cannot be trusted.
Maybe they didn't like puzzles all that much? I know a ton of videogame journalists get frustrated with puzzles, it's a pretty niche genre sadly. And most puzzle-focused games are either action-type puzzle games like Tetris and Bejeweled or mystery/adventure games where the puzzles aren't all that fun. They're either too easy or the solution's so obscure it's no fun to solve. I do love games that offer a variety of puzzles to solve though. Original 7th Guest no doubt, but also games like Lufia 2, Golden Sun, Alundra, Layton games, Baba is You, etc. Just love a game that requires me to solve puzzles in many different ways.
@@thenonexistinghero If you have a PSVR1, STATIK is a fantastic puzzle game unlike anything else.
@@JimmyNuisance Don't have one, was too expensive for what it offered and well... I don't want to be stuck to a cable for VR gaming. But I'll keep it in mind for if I ever see it appear on PCVR (probably won't happen though). Is good because of the puzzles or is it mainly story? A good story is nice, but there's too many 'puzzle' games that are mainly story-focused and don't really offer all that much in terms of puzzle satisfaction.
I'll be getting the PC version on Friday, it looks very cool.
Looks superb on PC
Thanks for doing those comparisons! The devs have said there will be Quest 3 upgrades “within weeks” of release. So hopefully that’ll bring that version closer to the PC and PSVR2 versions. I’m especially hoping that they will improve the ghost video people effects because that is what looks like the biggest downgrade to me on the Quest version.
The effects of them phasing in is less impressive on the quest but the 3D rendering looks just as good
I love puzzles…I just suck at them 🙈
Thank you for the reviw GT. I love a good puzzle game, this is definitely on my list to purchase but I need to decide over native Quest 3 or PCVR... hmmmm
Exact same question I'm asking myself.
@@aarontaylor7750 I would always buy games on PC if I have that choice.
Replaying your library when you get a new GFX card / Headset is one of the best things about PC.
One day 4k per eye / microOled / pancake lenses will be standard. Next year hopefully !!:)
Okay you've convinced me with your glowing review. I remember this game in the 90s when it came out on TWO CD's! I didn't have a CD player at the time.... I guess I still don't have one today. :) Now which version to get? PC or Quest 3? Hmmmmm
PC for graphics all day
BIG!
Looks amazing! Glad to hear good things about it. Is there a making-of video that perhaps shows how they accomplished the 3D FMV characters? I'm very interested to know the technology behind how they did this.
Ill tell Vertigo as that is a great idea
@@GAMERTAGVR Thanks! You're awesome!
It's called volumetric video. Multiple cameras surround the actor to be recorded. After the initial video capture, the scene is processed to produce a set of 3D models arranged in a sequence. Lastly, the meshes are unwrapped, textures are generated, then the whole thing is compressed into a data file that is ready for viewing. Companies like Dimension studios do it in the UK.
@@baroquedub Thanks for the explanation! =) I was picturing it working like your description. I'd still like to see the process in action too. =)
Hi @psvr2enthusiast - We actually provided the software to deliver these characters. If you're interested in a technical overview of how this is happening, we gave a technical talk with Vertigo Games at the AutoDesk Vision Series this year: ruclips.net/video/FjbngDVdL6s/видео.html
For a higher level insight into how volumetric video is produced, this is a great primer: ruclips.net/video/KKZ5_ARuAHQ/видео.html

Let's gooooo!!!!
Nice one. Most flat 3d games would port well.
Absolutely
Nice
GG GT! 👊😎
Great🍾 😛💣💚
Just to make it aware, the quest 3 comparison is just the quest 2 version running on the quest 3, the devs said the quest 3 update will be coming in the next few weeks
Graphical improvements?
@@brianbagnall3029there will be yes
About 7hrs, saw it walkthrough was quicker but maybe that was after playing on other platforms forst
Which platform would you recommend? PCVR with PICO 4, PSVR2 or Quest 3
PCVR
Excellent review and truly a great game. While I did think the graphics were still good I also thought the PSVR2 version looked a lil washed out at least compared to the Steam demo I played. Even so, it's still 100% worth picking up even if you know nothing of the original flat screen game
cheers my guy
One. of my first games on CD-rom
And it wasnt easy to get this game to play. Your computer needed specific specs and i played through dos.
Had to input something like D:// run game
What about the soundtrack. This was part of the game. Especially with Skeletons in my Closet by The Fat Man and Team Fat feat.Kris Mckay.
@gamertagvr if I only have a rtx 2060 and 10th i7 pcu would u still go pcvr or quest 3?
I can’t answer this definitely but try Steam and you can get a refund in you play under two hours but my 3080ti was only using 42% of the card so youll most likely be ok if not recording
The game looks great and they did a super job with it. The problem I have is Stauf. They didn’t really use Stauf very well in this. For a villain he comes off as too flat. Where’s the charisma, where is the creepy and for that matter where is Stauf? He’s barely in the game as a character. We see the other actors but they only mostly interact with Stauf through recordings and little audio boxes. Including the big painting of him and the little story cards you find it’s terrible. Robert Hirschboeck really made the character and I’m surprised they didn’t try to have him come back. Maybe they did?
What version are you playing in the video? Is that PCVR or Quest 3? Also, does it look any better on Quest 3 than Quest 2?
This is mainly PCVR. All games looks sharper on Quest 3 but this is the Quest 2 version. Quest 3 enhancements are coming
I had Phillips CDI , what a waste of money that was, however this game on it was the only good thing about it !!
I have a glitch on the quest 2. If I press right my character floats right by itself. I’ve tried Red Matter 2 and it doesn’t happen.
Can't wait for this! Any chance you could include Quest 2 comparisons in your reviews for those of us still on the 2?
This is the Quest 2 version with Quest 3 enhancements coming soon. The higher resolution and lens clairty is the only benefit of Quest 3 currently and it looks real good
I'm having issues choosing to buy the psvr2 or PCVR with a quest 3... I feel like the psvr2 would look great with the OLED blacks but the quest 3 lense clarity is awesome.. which would be best in this scenario?
I think that's a matter of preference. PSVR2 for best contrast, PCVR + Quest 3 for better image quality. I suppose on PC if you ever upgrade from your Quest 3 to a better VR headset you could get the best of both worlds later on, but of course that's not going to happen any day soon and would you even replay the game in a few years just to test out your shiny new PCVR-capable headset?
@@thenonexistinghero Yeah, that why I would always buy games on PC if I have that choice.
Replaying your library when you get a new GFX card / Headset is one of the best things about PC.
is there going to be an early vertigo 2 review for psvr2 ?
I’ll reach out the dev
Sounds cool. Im down. :)
Is there cross buy through rift? Also, how far off from pc version is the quest 3 version? I liked how dark the small clip you included was. Im going to get a quest 3 soon but will need to decide between pcvr and convenient quest 3 standalone.
Ill find out. Some games dont even laucnh on Rift store anymore
@@GAMERTAGVR that is true. Thanks!
I would also like to know this. I think my mum would really enjoy this game but I would prefer her to play the Quest version because then she can just go in and play whenever she wants. But I want to play the PCVR version for the better graphics..
@qivr9636 for what it's worth it looks like it might look better on quest 3 than psvr 2, so im sure it wouldn't be bad graphics at least. I'm sure someone will make a graphics comparison video.
Also wondering if it is crossbuy PC / quest 3
Do you know if it's cross play? If I buy it for Quest 3, can I play it in PCVR too? Thanks
Trying to find out
I was going to grab this on PSVR2, but am I crazy in thinking it actually looks better on Quest 3? Hmm...
It looks darker, more colourful and solid for some reason currently. PSVR2 looks very washed out and blacks are missing but I reckon they will update it. In terms of effects and textures PSVR2 is very close to PCVR
Thanks for the review. A no buy for me since I hate puzzle games
Appreciate you watching all the same 👍
Think I may wait until my bigscreen beyond arrives to play this one. I dont think this is one that will be greatly benefitted by being wireless on quest 3.
Did you get your BB? If so how is it. I'm thinking a game like this would be perfect for the microOLED display. I'm seriously considering one.
Look interesting but not quite my cup of tea. Still enjoying Paradise Hotel if i can get the balls to play it tonight. Lol
Really wanna hear if Madison is gonna make the Halloween list. Its not looking good
Is this a horror game ? Are there jumpscares?
Gamertag vr wich version did you play with
I checked them all but played mostly on PC
Any idea of the frame rate on the psvr2? Is it native? An what kinda resolution is it running
I didn’t notice any reprojection but the game is slow moving. It’s perfectly acceptable and looks good aside from the current washed out colours and blacks
@@GAMERTAGVR thanks for the reply 🤟
I never played orginal, and my wife loves mystery games. She hates scary or jump scares. Is this game very scary or has jump scares?
No jump scares at all but scary atmosphere keeps you on edge
damn i want to play this but I stink at puzzle games.. red matter 2 has the best balance of puzzles
as I said you have the hint system
I don't care about spoilers, can you tell me if this game contains any scary / horror elements or jump scares or does it only look a bit creepy?
No jumpscares. A few murders, you chop off doll heads for this one puzzle, and there's spiders as well. Spooky sounds and the paintings are spooky.
Which version plays and looks the best? PCVR or PSVR2?
PCVR due to the higher textures and deeper colours and blacks. PSVR2 looks washed out for some reason currently
Also you can turn up the resolution/super sample on PC making it way sharper.
I rarely see this mentioned (by Meta Ambassadors, sorry GT) but it makes a massive difference.
@@GAMERTAGVR Awesome, PCVR it is... thanks
What about the quest 2 version ?
This is the Quest 2 version on Quest 3
Definitely getting it at some point. Not sure if I should get it on my Quest 3 or PSVR 2. On one hand I’m more likely to use my Quest 3 as it’s much more convenient to just pull it out and start up as opposed to PSVR 2 which I hate being tethered to a console. On the other hand I need more reasons to pull my PSVR 2 out (seriously announce a Half Life Alyx port you cowards!). I’m torn which version looks better watching the comparison on your video. I know you ranked the PSVR 2 visuals over the Quest 3, which I’m wondering if that’s because it’s technically a Quest 2 game and maybe it will get a post release patch later to bump up the visuals on Q3, but in some regards I think Q3 looks better. The washer out visuals on the PSVR 2 version just don’t look that good to me, but the ghost effects on Q3 aren’t as good… decisions decisions
lol same here I cant decide on which version...unless I find out its cross buy with PC
Do you not like air link? you can buy the PC version and get the upgraded visuals cast to your quest 3?
Not sure about this, ive never been a PC gamer, never will be and point and click games just dont "click" with me personality, this does look lind of cool but it would probably have to be on a pretty big discount for an arcade gamer like myself to get into and give it a go. 😊
It's not really classic point and click. All the puzzles are simple and straightforward. There's no inventory, no backtracking. It's casual gamer level difficulty.
Is it crossbuy PC Oculus Rift and Quest?
Finding out now
Thanks man! Very good video as always! ❤
I have PSVR 2 and Quest 3. I love the pancake lenses and clarity of the Quest 3. Does it lose a lot in graphics, textures, and lighting compared to the PSVR 2?
What hz is psvr2 at
I don’t think it reprojected and felt smooth to play
Is it good on psvr2
Yes
Any change you'll be reviewing tennis on court? Not hearing good things about it
No dude. I wouldn’t consider playing it and nor should anyone else. Looks terrible and from what I’ve heard on Twitter is terrible. Some games you just know and that’s one screamed 💩 from the get go
Is this a scary, jump scare-ish game?
So no Quest 2 version? 😢
This is the quest 2 version running on Quest 3
@@GAMERTAGVRoh I didn’t see it on your list of systems. Great time for me to dust off my Quest 2! Looking forward to this one after watchin this
@@CaptainBackslap22 to be honest I can’t quote Quest 2 as a review unit since I didn’t play it on that headset but technically regarding textures and the such it looks good
@@GAMERTAGVRappreciate it GT 😊 I have the 2hr refund window worst case, at least lol
I want to play. But I loath puzzle games. So hard pass.
But what about Meta Quest 2? Already forgotten? You did not test it on the headset that most people have?
He played the quest 2 version, just on a quest 3. Quest 3 enhancements are supposed to be coming soon
It's not motion capture, they are 3D scanned frame by frame.
by definiton it is still considered mo-cap but I get what your saying
@@GAMERTAGVR it's called volumetric video.
why does the psvr2 version look so washed out? is it worse in the video than the headset?
PSVR2 displays in HDR which makes the social screen output look washed out. Should not be the case inside the headset.
