Of course they didn't even tune it... Might wanna check if the transmission is even full of fluid and put some proper gear oil in it. Who knows what the hell the previous "mechanics" did to it. All I can say otherwise is yeah, rotaries are incredibly fun. When well tuned it just feels like the power keeps coming and coming and coming. Like you wonder when the car is going to stop accelerating. Hard to explain without experiencing. This car still needs a lot more work, but it seems like everything the shop did you could have done better and in less time, hahaha.

Holy crap! I didn’t even think to check the other fluids 😭
Thank you so much for this comment. I’m doing that first thing tomorrow!

@@djthewafflehouseconnoisseu9403 Hahaha who knows if they charged him for 3 quarts of Red Line MT-90 and put in 1 quart of parts store brand ATF? 😂 Check the rear diff and brake fluid as well. Brake reservoir could be dark from sitting so long. Charged for ATE TYP 200 and used Super Tech DOT 3? 😁

@@802Garage I flushed the brake fluid. That stuff was Wesley Snipes black. I’m thinking, when he’s ready for a clutch to get a master and slave cylinder knocked out too.
The diff cover looks brand new, but I need to open it up to upgrade to a Kaaz 2 way eventually anyway, so I might as well do it tomorrow.

@@djthewafflehouseconnoisseu9403 😂 Killin' me smalls. As long as the master and slave are working well and if they are OEM or at least good Japanese brands like Nabco or Exedy or whoever I'm sure they'll be fine if you changed out the fluid. The car is definitely in better hands now. 🙇‍♂️

You may want to even check to see if the shifter bushing isn't cooked. Might be worthwhile to do a shifter rebuild too and I believe Mazdatrix has that available.

Muah 😚 so 1oz per Gallon without OMP is good and I guess just use the Mazda Trx shifter but besides that I would honestly only reach out to Rob Dahm his passion for rotaries is unlike any other and ye keep up the great uploads I would also take a look at getting and oil cooler kit I cant remember if u have one or not

I’ll have to look into the TRX shifter, I haven’t heard of it. This car does have dual oil coolers, which is cool! I love Rob!

@@djthewafflehouseconnoisseu9403 So I'm watching this first thing in the morning over coffee. Great way to start the day :D I'd bet JustASimpleGuy meant Mazdatrix, but autocorrect happened. The ABS Warning Light can be kind of a faffe to pin down since it's the early 3-solenoid system that was carried over from the Japanese GT-Limited Special Edition model FC RX-7s. After July 1994, they introduced the 6-Solenoid system (1995 model in the US) and the diagnosis procedure fell in line with every other system (short a specific terminal to ground in Diagnosis Connector, count the blinks to see the code that identifies the misbehaving part). Hit me up later once I'm properly awake and I'll take a look for the Pre-1995 procedure.

@@tsherwoodrzerooh no need to fix the ABS light. He deleted the ABS completely, and the Vargas Bros didn’t give it back so we can’t reinstall it if he wanted to. We’ll either leave it lit or remove the bulb

@@djthewafflehouseconnoisseu9403 Speaking of seeing what's happened, do you think you could do me a small favor and verify a connector? I have a sneaking suspicion that mistakes were made in two manuals early on.

I know for RX-8’s the lower thermostat is recommended because the OEM one sits at 190-192 degrees, which is better for fleet emissions, but shitty for longevity. Not sure if it’s the same for REW’s, but 10-degrees cooler operating temp at least buys you some time before overheating
