Fun fact: Because rotaries fire once every revolution like a 2-stroke, they'll sound similar to a 2-stroke with a similar piston count and presumably even firing interval. Don't believe me? Go listen to a 2 stroke triple back to back with an N/A 20B. Fun fact 2: Because it fires as often as a 2-stroke, it has technically 2x the volumetric efficiency as a normal 4-stroke piston engine. Double firing also means double the pulses, so the firing interval also mimics a 4-stroke piston engine with twice as many cylinders. Effectively, this means a 13b is a 2.6L 4-cyl, a 20b is a 4.0L 6-cyl, a 26b is a 5.2L 8-cyl, and THIS right here is equivalent to a 6.5L V10. So basically, Mad Mike (and the formula Mazzei guys, at that) have a 6.5L V10 that revs as high as Ryan Tuerck's Judd swapped Supra but theoretically makes more power due to more effective displacement. If Mike wants to chime in, I gotta ask... This makes about 800-900whp, right? By my math that's what it should be doing.
Your fun fact 2 is incorrect because that would mean a 2 stroke (which the rotary is too) would be also be double displacement (Which they aren't) now only if u were to compare the engines to a 4 stroke would that be somewhat correct but still be inaccurate of actual displacement.
@@nightkingzz784 I mean, it kinda is. 250 2 strokes kept up with or beat 450 4 strokes for the longest time until manufacturers started getting their BMEP up high enough to counter the increased VE of 2-cycle engines, which after their own efficiency losses come out to about 60% better total, nowadays. IE if you have a 4-stroke that can do 85lb-ft per liter, a 2-stroke of equal displacement should do 136. 2s didn't get worse, though, it's just that 4s got much better, particularly at the "as-manufactured" level since, technically speaking (at least in the domestic V8 world) racers have been getting 80+lb-ft per liter since the 60s all on their own, and on 2-valve engines while simultaneously pushing the limits of reliable piston speeds, at that.
