A while ago, I heard of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 equipped with Michelin Track Connect and that was a very useful tool to avoid wrong tyre pressures and overheating.
I am personally a fan of Michelin tyres! First time I put a set on my car they where back then Michelin Pilot sport 2's ever since then I have had Pilot sport 3's and the Pilot super sport, They where my road tyres, when I did a track day at my local circuit with semi slicks either R888 or Kumho V70A if it rained I went in and put the Michelins back on and they would handle wet and mild standing water very very well! Not tried the new ones nor the cup 2 R you have there but I can imagine they are very good! Great topic!
Fascinating, Spoken like a true Motorsport Team Principal with that level of understanding of the mechanics of the car and the tyres. Are you still running the Nankang's on the hire fleet? I was looking into them for purchase and they seem to be cheaper than my current choice Uniroyal Rainsports, which are awesome!
What is the difference between this tire and let say ar1 . Asking because I run ar1 and in my tire choice I don’t have them available. Thanks anyway and good videos 👍
I more of the guy in the category up to 7:45 BTG but the Cup R is not available in my Nissan GTR Sizes, so I tried the Trofeo R at one point to see what it can do compared to Cup 2. Can you switch the CUP 2 with the R without touching the alignment of the GT2 RS. I noticed that when I have ideal tire wear with the CUP 2 and switch to the Trofeo R, I would need to add at least 1° of negative camber to achieve the same type of tire wear? For my personal conclusion, I can say I feel the positive difference between the 2 tires but for what I am using the tire for it does not make sens to pay the 50% premium price to shave of some of the additional seconds around the track. As I suspect this beening similar to the differecne Cup 2 R and classical Cup 2 I will stick to the Cup2 which is the best compromise for me, it seems to last "for ever" and it provides constant performance at a very decent level.
I think for you it’s between the cup2 and the trofeo. Often you need more camber w the trofeo as the sidewalls are softer and in hard corners it rolls over. They both are very reliable tires and I would stick with the one that gives you the best feedback. Often it’s car dependent in terms of weight, power etc. I will say that there have been cars where the cup2 doesn’t work for me such as the xx31 but the trofeo does. I’ve not had a car that the trofeo doesn’t work well for me.
@@RobertMitchell I've wondered whether the Cup2 R surpassed the dry grip level of the TrofeoR. Could the SVJ have gone even faster with the Cup2 R at the Nurb?
Its less then 700euros per tire, usually you always get discounts on wheels (around 30% but not sure if this applies on track wheels since I never bought them).
The difference between a Cup2 and a Cup2R is easily 10s difference for the ring. But of course when manufacturers are trying to say "I have the best nurburgring time" they aren't going to mention that by doing that 1 lap on that 1 set of tires, the car is already cooked. Now let's slow it down for the more normal track day driver. If the car can go slightly faster, but at the expense of having to change tires after 20-30 minutes of tracking, is that really a good thing? I'd be much more happy to run all day on normal cup 2 tires, because the biggest room for improvement isn't the tire, it's the person behind the wheel. However, I did hear about some people driving the GT2RS switching on Trofeo Rs. Trofeo's definitely have more grip than cup2's, but seem to be more durable than cup2Rs.
What are your opinion about Continental tyres?? ContiSport contact series?? Never hear you about it, but i hear also a lot of people like them as a fast road tyre/sports tyre/ (low/mid level track tyre??)
I think the image from the fixed camera is a little blurry or low contrast. Maybe there's something with the lenses… I noticed the same thing in the previous vlog, inside the room.
maybe you smudged your screen?! hehe thank you for the feedback, we spend a good bit of time grading the color to how we like it. Mabey we will sharpen it up a bit for the next one :)
Could you please share the tyre pressure for this MPS R. What is the best pressure (in bar), where it works the best. And with what pressure you normally start with? Thanks.
good question! you need to be very careful with them and leave no lower than 2.0 front and 2.4 rear then heat them up, drop pressures, heat further, drop again and run the ideal warm is about 2.05 front and 2.4 rear as we have seen!
Thanx. Really appreciate your comments 👍🏻 I destroyed last summer one set with too high pressures. Or maybe they would have lasted longer, if I would have concentrated more on the pressures. But the grip was unbelievable, I was only 1.3 sek/km slower in my 991.1 GT3 RS than my 997.2 Cup car, in the same track.

interesting tyre. its made for one lap shootouts to get a super fast time. Whats your opinion on getting a set of slicks for track days? I heard they provide more grip and longevity than the best road legal tyres.
Slicks are only for racing cars.. they are SO grippy and will ruin a normal car without roll cage that's only spot welded.. car wil simply start cracking, driveshaft will brake etc...

Any idea how this compares to the Nakang AR1 you are running on the Pista? Asking as I am very familiar with the regular Cup 2 tires on my 2018 GT3 but looking for something for my 488GTB. Thanks!

Looking forward to try them. I just can't get myself to pay for the R compound tyres when a set of "regular" MPSC2 K2 tyres last maybe 1½ month at best.
So technically if you drove the ring for 365 days a year and did 7 laps per day on the tire you would be spending 912,000 dollars a year ON TIRES ALONE. Too rich for my blood.
Equip the 720s "Track Pack" with those tires and use a professional driver, and I guarantee you it will destroy the 911GT RS nurburgring lap record. A 765LT isn't even needed. As I've always stated, DRIVER SKILLS and TIRES play a significant role in racing (especially around tracks, where the margin for error is greater).
I do not think that the 720s will beat the GT2RS MR... The 765 MAYBE however the 720s has some lift off oversteer issues at the full limit that you would need to correct with aero before being able to go as fast as the MR in the turns.
@@RobertMitchell The 720s track pack edition, equipped with trofeo tires, recorded a faster time around Hockenhein GP than both the 911GT2 RS and 488 Pista. So, in my opinion, it can beat the 911GT2 RS' time around the Nurburgring...Unless Porsche made some changes/enhancements to that particular 911GT2 RS it used to set the lap record.
Tyran Mathurin NoS is a very different animal compared to HHR. McLaren needs more aero almost across the entire range, would be good to see the 765LT rectifying this.
@@RobertMitchell I suspect that McLaren couldn't get the Senna to beat the P1 GTR LM time at the Nurb when they tested there so i can't see the 765 LT beating the SVJ lap time let alone the GT2 RS MR's lap record.

I do not think that the 720s will beat the GT2RS MR... The 765 MAYBE however the 720s has some lift off oversteer issues at the full limit that you would need to correct with aero before being able to go as fast as the MR in the turns.

The 720s track pack edition, equipped with trofeo tires, recorded a faster time around Hockenhein GP than both the 911GT2 RS and 488 Pista.

BS!
Not the fastest tyre in the world. The fastest one you cant buy in your country.
And what is that!?
@@RobertMitchell Yokohama A050 Soft. Easy to overheat but super quick for a one hot lap.
The r888r tires are better much better
Hmmmm.....
Robert Mitchell they also do well in the wet and seeing how it’s always wet over their in Europe compared to the USA. I e tried them all and for a street tire they are the best them some Hoosiers track slicks
Great analysis. But please shop for some better mics and audio processors. The levels are all over the place. 🎛🎙🎚
Yeah I don't think so. Plenty semi slick tires for sale in order to claim this.
I think it’s close
