The way her scam works, it makes it better for her screw-up the first drawing. If they leave, she still gets over a grand without even touching a tattoo gun. This is just such a mess. I'm so glad that the community is coming together to help her. This will also help those who are looking to get a tattoo, see what to look out for so they aren't scammed themselves.

No that’s how it starts. Then she changes it day of, charges you another 1-6k if you don’t like the new change, then also charges you the daily rate on top of that. She also doesn’t start or finish in time, to charge you an additional daily rate when you have to return. If you don’t pay, she tarnishes your reputation making it impossible to get a tattoo in the area. She’s minimizing the tattoos she’s doing and maximizing income through scamming and holds all the power in the dynamic - and she knows it

Because you are less dumb than the lady in the video. They give her options on how much does she wanted to be scammed for and of course she took the smallest amount but still a scamm. The right answer is, "no I don't want to be scammed good bye", but wanted to look cool and tell a story of the 1680 DLLs tattoo, instead (lol) she is telling the 1680 DLLs scamm story. Glad to see the community coming together to try and make this a positive story in the end. As a tattoo artist, your number one focus should always be the customer. Make them feel comfortable, excited, and happy. We always want to make them feel at home in our shop. If we got an 8 hour session booked, but we feel we can do more, and the customer feel they can sit for longer, we always continue for an other hour or 2, no extra charge added. Sure, we all want to make money, but at the end of the day, we do it for our passion of art and the people that turn to us for it.

(22 $) in advance just to make sure he doesn't waste his time and energy on people who end up cancelling 😅 However the price of 180$ just for a sketch seems out of this world. Hell, I've been asked to do tattoo designs for people, and I usually end up telling people to go straight to the artist and get them to do it - because it would be weird for them to pay me for all the design work, and then pay AGAIN for the artist to essentially redraw it better. The solution for me has been radical honesty: tell them all the estimated pricing up-front, tell them about the template with which they could do it themselves, and tell them if it is something of which I think they're capable. Literally 100% of the time the client asks me to do it anyhow. I think if you send an email explaining what you do in detail and what the charge is upfront, there's no reason you should feel scammy at all.

The drawing process can take hours out of your night. Think about it as a handmade good. I also sell crocheted things on the side and I charge according to materials and my time. @@retributionangel5078 that’s the point innit? That she changes prices and lies about doing original pieces. Unless Starbucks claims to sell you coffee but serves you turd-in-a-cup, this isn’t even close to the same thing.

First time viewer, no tattoos, no interests in tattoos. Great video! very entertaining story. Crazy that scams like this exist in the legal form. Its insane that just because you see someone's online social media( only the good things and mostly fake things to look important online) these people will spend thousands of dollars and fly out to a tattoo artist just because they are a huge fan of them and their work based on following their work on social media. I mean at that point its like this artist knows people are coming to her based on those factors and she can charge insane prices for every step of the way and knows that they cant just compare the pricing and prices to a standard artist because they are basically only getting a tattoo from them because they follow them online and want to say " I got a tattoo by my favorite tattoo artist in the whole world." So she basically gets them to keep throwing good money after bad money. I play poker and when You have 100 dollars in the pot already with a very bad hand but you have a chance at winning still , you might bet, (or in poker terms call a bet) for $40 because you cant stand the thought of folding and then the $100 is gone for good. So there is a chance, a small chance that they could hit a card that wins them the pot. Just like the tattoo situation they already have some work done and have invested alot of time and money into trying to get this tattoo done by this artist. So they keep paying out hoping eventually the tattoo gets done and they can say " I got a tattoo by my favorite tattoo artist in the whole world." But the chances of that happening are slim too

People also need to get off the whole “Ig artist that I love” BS. Go to your local shops, talk to the artists there, most of them are super nice and professional and will answer most of your questions for free. Better yet, book a local artist for a minor tattoo and while you’re getting it, ask them loads of questions about future projects.
From my experience, consultations were free, designs were free and you can change things within reason. Oh and I also only paid deposit for the first tattoo, after that I wouldn’t have to. We got so familiar that one day I completely forgot my money and my artist was like “no worries, bring it when you can”, which I went to get right after the tattoo was done.

That would be so hard to sit with someone who is that antagonistic, and that dishonest. She charged her customers more money for her own appointment changes! She knew she had her customers over a barrel, so she took absolute advantage of them. How has she not been arrested for fraud? She should absolutely be put out of business.

This is crazy, I have been getting tattoos since I was 17 I’m in my late 30’s I have never heard of anyone changing more than 10 percent of the total job. To sit up an sketch. It cost you almost nothing but 20 minutes out of your day. This artist is common for most tattoo artists they are thefts. Every tattoo artist I have dealt with ripped me off.
Also, as a police officer for over a decade. The second story that was a civil matter not a criminal matter.

That’s extortion, to continually up the price in order to finish the job, she should be held legally accountable.

*"Oh, you want the cheaper option. I guess I'll have to intentionally make a crap sketch, until you pay the full price."*

I just finished watching your video. As someone who has a few tattoos, I am appalled by this. I have been tattooed by several artists in Las Vegas and now in Ohio and have never been treated like this nor would I put up with it (I hope). Those prices are too rich for my blood. I now have an original design tattoo on my chest, to cover scars, and my awesome artist, Mindy of Trinity Tattoo, spoke to me about what I wanted while I was having another tattoo touched up. No extra charge, I was there. We decided that she would draw the design directly on my chest to make it custom. Granted that time used was charged her hourly rate, which it should, but since I had spoken to her previously, she had thought about what would work for what I was covering up and the floral design I wanted. It only took her about 45 minutes to draw it on my, no stencil. Was it completely done in that first 3 hour session, no. I scheduled another session and some things were added, etc. because now I could see how I wanted things to go and she suggested things. No extra charge for design change, but paying her hourly rate. After living with the tattoo for a couple of months and wearing different tops, I realized that 2 of the leaves stuck up out of my bra so it looked like I had bunny ears. We both laughed about this and she added another flower bud to fix the "ears" issue. No redesign charge, only hourly rate. To me she is the ultimate professional and artist, after all I have to wear this and Mindy takes pride in her work. In case you were wondering, Mindy is always booked up at least 2-3 months in advance and I get on her waiting list every time I can!

As a former tattoo apprentice and lover of tattoos. I learned that anytime money starts getting talked about both parties enter legal land. My mentor told me that all tattoos are final. Whether they like it or not. It's worse than buying a house or getting married. Especially if they don't like it. Because you never know if that client actually has the money and clout to take you all the way through the legal fight to get your tattoo removed. He stated to me in very clear terms "have a contract" that "clearly states services and fees" and to attach this "contract" to the clients "tattoo care and does and do nots list". After hearing his fourth horror story from the various shops he had worked in. I thanked him for the opportunity he had given me cleaned the shop finished the autoclaving and told him I didn't think the field was for me.
