Just wanna thanks for what you're doing with this car. Before your videos on this thing, there was almost no footage of turbo chickens doing their thing. Now I have more than I can ask for. Thank you.
@@christopherdillon7421 They mostly kept it on for styling reasons Chris. After 81, Pontiac knew there wasn't gunna be any 301Ts in there, but still kept it on for about 10 years. Just for looks. Very impressive Joe. Great job !!! 12.8 @ 104 mph with a 301 Pontiac and 3.08 gears. Love it !! That E85 makes a huge difference. Nice 60 ft time also.

Joe need to work on your reaction time looks like you're sleeping at the light haha. A good tip is launch when you see the last yellow light up. .5 reaction time it won't be a red light.
my 81 trans am turbo has an aftermarket cat converter, the line coming from the pollution pump wont reach the nipple on the cat, it makes noise coming from the pump line that wont reach the nipple, I kind of want to keep it stock and not removing the pump, but I want to get rid of the noise when the car is warm. or am I just better off removing the pump?
@@ttaperformance1046 i love what youve done and praise your work. But obviously it all cost money. It never was, GM worked with what they had available and could afford to mass produce it. Gasohol was available in those days and I'm sure some people blended it with regular gas to bump up the octane. That said modern technology has made it possible for the turbo TA run like it should.
the 301 bottom end is a gm small block... very strong.. he just changed the ring gap on the pistons to allow for bigger turbo & changed the heads to aluminum trik flow probably & bigger cam , Holley sniper F I. & E85 fuel & BAM !! 12.85ET 1/4 mile !!
When you are just running for time the green doesn't matter, the timer starts when you leave the line. Now if you were actually racing the car in the other lane you obviously wouldn't want to delay like that. 😀
Congrats! Great work getting so much out of these turbo 301 powertrains. Racing with the T-tops out doesn't add a little wind drag that might be slightly holding you back?
Absolutely astonishing. 35 years ago, no-one would believe it. Of course, 35 yrs ago, the knowledge and technology wasn't there. You've done well Joe, and we can't thank you enuff for your info. I must say, I was a bit disappointed with the drags. Not your car, but the pathetic competition next to you. How many SUVs are there now-a-days? They're everywhere. And the participation, and crowds, (or lack of) in the stands. Very depressing. At least it gives you an opportunity to thrash your car.
Hey are you running the factory 10 bolt rear with 3.08 gears? Did you have to do anything to the rear to make it stronger because I have heard the 10 bolts are very weak and i see you are running drag radials. I have a all original 1979 Trans Am SE 400 4spd WS6 and it has the factory 10 bolt rear with 4wheel disc brakes.
There were two different 10-bolts, the one Pontiac began to use starting in 1971 was a heavier duty version with an 8.5" ring gear compared to the previous 8.2" ring gear. The 12-bolt gear was 8.875" so not that much bigger. The new 10-bolts are very strong and it was used behind all Firebirds from 71 on including 455, 455HO, 455SD, etc so Pontiac didn't feel there was a concert regarding strength.
I went to see An 80 turbo trans am this morning, it needs work and I hope to get it financed. Can an e 85 car use regular gasoline? Just wondering. I will be relying on your Chanel for info on how to fix the trans am.
With EFI, you can have two different tunes. One for e85 and one for gasoline. It wouldn't have the option to mix the fuels. If using a carb, it would requiring modification to run e85.
CONGRATS!!!!!! I have many questions.... Temp? Humidity? DA? Stock bottom end, but you changed the ring gap and the cam? Motor had to come apart for that change... Tire size? Launch rpm? Boost when launching? Shift points? Rpm going thru the lights? Vehicle weight?
Temp 60°F Humidity 88% DA 1280 ft. Yes, added ring gap to the factory GM rings. I did change the cam to a Comp 252H. Stock GM crank, rods, pistons and bearings. Tires are 275-50-15 Nitto 555 R2 drag radials. Launch RPM was around 2600 RPM. Boost was about 8 psi at launch.
@@ttaperformance1046 so you got into the bottom end, and your gear ratio is closer to 3.42 than 3.08? This was all asked by someone other than me.... im jist the middle man.... you know who it is
I never seen anything better than a 3 second cut on the light. You would get out run by a 15 second Honda with the reaction time you had. But that’s on the driver. The car is a street beast .
Wow didn’t expect a 301 turbo to do that .. had a 78 & even that was choked up. Nice runs.
Very cool to see someone get potential out of these
Good driving bro, would like to see that again
The 301 turbo was allways underated.with a little tuning its a sleeper !
