We get asked a lot on how to remove the air pump on the 1980-81 Pontiac 301 and Pontiac 265. The air pump was only installed those last two years of this engine. If removing the air pump tube, you will need Dorman 555-101 freeze plugs to plug off the port in the cylinder head.

    Interesting video! But why do I want to mess with a 301? I have a TA with a 400 with the 6x-4 heads on it! I believe it’s the W72 engine. Has a bigger hot rod camshaft and single plain intake. Runs really good. Thinking of switching to a 455 and putting all the parts from the 400 into the 455. Camshaft, heads intake and headers

    Nice job , the custom work on the brackets nice. E brake set up as well. I’d like to put a built 6:42 4.8 Ls turbo in one of those with a TR6060 6 speed 3.73 Eaton Posi. 4.9 was the Original size. I had one in a Buick Lesabre, maroon 4 door sport wheels, it was pretty gangster! You should have used a hydraulic roller cam/ lifters, stage 2 turbo cam. I would pay more for a resto-mod with the yr round reliable power. You’ve changed too much to keep the engine/old school . Plus wasn’t the compression like 7.1-7.5 , just too low to start with in my opinion. I’m gonna need 500 at the crank to make it fun , 650 to make it fast and fun, feel me?

    any idea why a 1981 transam with ws6 would have such a hard riding suspension over bumps? also when a bump is at the left rear, the car sounds like you just dropped a metal tool box on cement? any Ideas?

    What is the most horsepower and torque that you’ve personally ever pulled out of one of these 301 turbo cars? Have you ever seen anyone pull out more power than you were able to produce, I highly doubt it as you are the only person building these that I’ve seen in the last couple of years worth or searching. Thanks

    Good Luck Getting At The Distributor On A Pontiac 151! Yes The Iron Duke! Particularly In A 1979 MONZA! ITS BURIED! On Passenger Side In The Back Towards The Flywheel! And Underneath The Intake Assembly! Yep, BURIED! A Lot Easier To Access On My 1973 350 Firebird. Probably The Same Effort As The 301.

    I just put a 77 400 in my 79 Formula in place of the 301. The 400 is totally rebuilt and runs like crap. I used the quadrajet off the 301 minus the 1-1/2 inch alluminum spacer. I have no vacum to the PCV. Wondering if deleting that plate is the source of my problems.

    Awesome video, question for the 200r4, for the cooler lines, is the top line connect to the bottom of the radiator cooler and the bottom line connect to the top of the radiator?? I keep seeing that the 200r4 lines are reversed.

    Those are the ugliest wheels ever made! They definitely need swapped out for either the 15x8 turbo wheels, the 15x8 snowflake wheels, or the 17x8 year one snowflake reps.

    Yes, there will be day codes on the ignition wires. It will be a number then Q and then a year which stands for a given quarter of the year. If they are original, they will precede the assembly date of the vehicle. It is missing the small sheet metal piece that goes from the air duct into a hole in the fender. Correct, 1979 was the first year that the high beam control was moved to the steering column. No, that is a E-Core AC Delco filter. I believe the original may have been a PF40 which got later superseded to PF47. I want to say some early literature actually makes reference to using both filters as an either or situation.

    That is a really cool specimen! A guy I know has a 80 301 non turbo car he bought with around 5k miles that was really neat to see. I spoke to you about it as I got tye engine, fuel tank and exhaust out of it as he swapped in a butler 455 IIRC.

    Have it’s Sister car 78 Caprice Classic 2Door in green, love all GM B-Body 2Door Coupe cars 77-87 Caprice and 77-85 all other Divisions. That is is a very nice car! 😊👍the small GM 267, 301, 305 307 engines of the era were not powerful but VERY durable/reliable 👍👍👍
