Hey Joe, I thought these things were externally balanced. (?) Also, with dished pistons, and a mild cam, didn't think the valves would come anywhere near close to the piston crown. Even with jumped cam timing. Anyway, good luck with reassembly. We're sure you'll do a fine job.
I don't think the piston hit the valve. I think I made that mark when I removed the valve spring. The valve doesn't look bent or damaged. These engines are externally balanced. Not sure what they did to balance it.
I could be wrong my observation of this is that a chunk of carbon broke loose and got between the seat and valve causing all of this maybe combined with a little to much slack in the timing chain and the spark plugs not being the proper heat range all that carbon build up was probably the whole cause for what happened just my thoughts from the video
I would love nothing more in life to have this car back
At least you had one. I always wanted an 81 Pace Car but it just never happened.
Great video! Can't wait for part 3.
I seriously doubt this had 23K original miles more like 123K. Maybe 23K since rebuild
Those 301’s had a funky cylinder with those siamese ports. I agree I would hone it and put forged pistons in it

There is no way that piston hit the valve.

Have you ever seen that before?
Wow well since you have that pig out of there , fix it , keep on rack and put a LS in there super charge 😂😂😂😂😂😂❤
