How are they underrated? Both the 403 and the 400 seriously outperform this engine, especially the 4-speeds. The only engine the turbo 301 outperforms is the non-turbo 301.
I enjoyed this video. Thanks for posting it. I still have my `79 and she originally came with the 301. The crankshaft decided to snap while making a left hand turn. My brother in law, who worked at a Chevrolet dealership said that it was a common occurance as those crankshafts were hollow for better oiling. I went from a 350 to a 400 after that. Glad your's is still going strong.
Back in the day my friend ordered a T/A, ‘77 with no bird package, solid plain looking color 4spd trans and 455 the ultimate sleeper - damn that car was fast
I built up the very first grand national turbo engine for buick and then just a few weeks later, pontaic had me build up this very first turbo engine 301 engine. Then i did all the testing on a dyno in ann arbor michigan. This pontiac engine ran real good and then i built up the engine to run on propane with the turbo! Now that was one sweet running motor.
Hands Down if I had a Trans Am that I wanted right now this is a Nice T/A I owed a 1976 Trans Am 455 4 speed my brother had gotten new drove a year it was White with Red Intrrior and that is still my Favorite T/A but I would really Like this one and all that is done even with the smaller motor I love everything that was done to this car and that suspension and handling Oh Wow just what I Love 😢red interior really giving it a Great Look
Nice looking car, with some pretty cool up-grades. I saw the 200R4, and waited "patiently" for the rear gear. But never was stated. Don't feel like the lone ranger. Most people never talk about that, (some don't know), but to me, it makes the total package, and is pertinent to the sound on test drives. You gave the RPMs at 65, but I'm not too familiar with OD trannys. And I've contemplated running straight open exhaust, cause people say the turbos quiet everything down. This one sounds like a pretty annoying drone, if you wanted to go on an hr or 2 with a passenger, and tried talking over it. Wonder what the track times would be, with the up-grades. Thanks for posting, Joe.
@@joequillun7790 I have the 3.42 on my 80 TTA with the 200-4R. I really like it. I had the original TH350 with a 3200 stall and it would spin the tires just off throttle, but no top end. It was screaming at highway speed. The 200-4R has made it much more comfortable to cruise in. I have a stock stall but I think i'm going to put a higher stall. once it locks up it doesn't matter.
We have other videos showing chassis dyno pulls at different boost levels and different mods. My personal 1981 301T has made 300 RWHP on 17 psi and e85.
Hi, I am asking you because I believe you would know. Where is a good source for draw through turbo chargers. I need one for a small block Chevy less than about 400 hp. Thank you
The stock rear end ratio was geared for highway. Could of used a more performance oriented rear end and a 4 speed manual. Would of kicked ass despite only being 210hp. the 300+ fp of torque made up
If you put Ceramic coating on your car it will not come off. If your car goes to a body shop. for a repair. It will get painted over because we can't get it off
A lot of money sunk into that fire chicken. It should beat a 396 Camaro or a 400 firebird 😆😆😆😆😆😆👍 who's the forged piston manufacturer and part number please comment
i dont want to sound like a jerk or be negative, but this is not a good set up for a 301, the motor ran better with the qudrajet , efi was harder to control timing, '
This is the sweetest Turbo 301 I've ever seen.
Gorgeous. The turbo 301s are definitely underrated. I drove one. It had all the pickup I needed.

I had several in HS and college - I love these big ole land sharks - heck, look at my avatar
Beautiful, I miss my 80 TTA and my 77 TA.
I Miss My Red '73 Base 2bbl 350/175!
That's actually really cool seeing the boost gauge next to the tac, first time I see that on a second gen too.

Beautiful car, and impressive mods! The only criticism would be to say it’s a lot of effort for 300 whp
That is the same exact color combo as the one I had. I loved mine

Very cool 🤙
I can’t do the bright red interior. Nice job underneath. Yes I need 2 black marks to seal the deal. Needs a 700R4 or hydro 350 and 3.73s/ Eaton posi.
Nice car
Fantastic!
You Kick Ass!
301s KICK ASS!!
Nice car 😊.

Thank you. It has 3.42 rear gears.
Dude he clearly stated 3.42 😂

where did you get the boost gauge? I'm new to these turbo trans am's but that's pretty cool
Nice car. What kinda actual horse power does a 301 turbo car pull here in the future. From what i see better than factory. Thank you.

@@ttaperformance1046 i think this makes sense, with 15 PSI, all things being equal, you are basically running a 602...so 300 seems on the money...?
@@ttaperformance1046What kind of mods for 300 rwhp?

455 was not an engine option in 1977. They had the 180 L78, and the 200 hp W72, ta 6.6, on the shaker hood.
Now thats trigger
Why kind of rims are those ?
Paint color?
Is this the one that dyno’d at 400 hp?

How About A 402 CAMARO?
The only thing I would have done was ceramic coat the crossover pipe and heat wrap it

You do realize this is a aftermarket EFI system right? timing control on the Holly system is far superior to mechanical timing with vacuum advance.
