I'm starting to realize more and more there are many neurodivergent cis gendered men who struggle to fulfill the expectations of "masculinity" society puts on them. I'm nonbinary/transmasc and never really thought about "taking the lead" on dates/conversations, it just seems like something that helps people feel comfortable, so I often do it on dates, I think. But my partner is cis guy with ADHD and recently, 3 years into the relationship, we were talking about this. He also gets social anxiety in public spaces (grocery stores) and likes it when I order for him at restaurants. He's an excellent, communicative, caring partner and I never really thought twice about helping him with these things sometimes but only recently realized when he went on dates before me they would have been seen as "weak" non-masculine traits. It seems so trivial in the grand scheme of pros and cons you could want in a partner- but I guess that's part of the danger of subscribing so rigidly to a gender binary.
The conversation came up because I have a younger coworker who has adhd and is autistic who has similar issues trying to date women. Feeling really uncomfortable talking on the phone seems to be another overlapping thing. It's annoying that it's harder for neurodivergent people to date but it's probably not really a "you" problem, you're probably just trying to fit a butterfly shaped peg into a bunch of round holes, and it just takes some more time to find someone that fits.

    • @emisformaker

Yes, your description of your partner seems similar to me. I also struggle with the typical “masc” assertive “taking the lead” style things. I loved the butterfly fitting in a round hole analogy :)

    • @wildhearses
      @wildhearses 4 месяца назад

@@tmoody1000 I feel obligated to point out the butterfly/round hole was me just repeating something noah said in this video, lol. But having not being diagnosed I slowly started to realize there's just some people I click with better/ feel less exhausted around and it's other neurodivergents and it's because me also- so I like the phrase. I know there's a researched higher correlation with autistic people having some sort of gender identity issues... I guess to me it's like just another "if one of us is oppressed we're all oppressed" thing... Even if you are a cis white man, if your brain isn't wired "normal" you don't get treated as well, and people will make you feel like it's a personal failing when it's a societal failing towards you.

To say we are burnt out by the hospitality industry is an understatement. I know trying to start our own business will be crazy hard and may not pan out in the end, but we are to the point mentally where we can’t work for a boss anymore and we are privileged enough to be able to try. But there are decent people out there; I've just had a new manager come in above me at my work and she's been really kind, encouraging, and supportive regarding my career development and the work-related challenges of both my depression and my autism. Literally went to a psychiatrist for the first time in 10 years because of her, and the meds I got are working so embarrassingly well I'm furious at myself for not going sooner.
Sorry, long story short. Decent employers and bosses can be hard to find, but especially in the 25-35yr old bracket, there actually are very educated and kind people who genuinely want to be the best version of a boss/manager possible. I'm a librarian, and I was unemployed for like 2 years, living with my mom and sister, until I got a job this October at a college library. yay!
now im probably being payed like $700 after taxes (40h/week) and my paycheck is way above average comparing to peer librarians here in my city (Brazil - DF). But my field is super undervalued here + cost of living is the highest in the country so even though i'm basically getting paid the best i ever have (there's always that "can't complain" in the back of my mind), i still can't afford to live alone without moving to a place really far from work and even then i wouldn't be saving money at all which is a scary thing to do if you are living alone.
We're not unionized at my company/field and dont have a minimum wage law beyond the general minimum wage (some professions here have that, like physiotherapists, with $1k/month on a 30h work week) so i think this is of many reasons my field is underpaid with average salary being around $350/month.I feel like everyone should have a larger paycheck! minimum wage should be at least $1400/month for everyone in my city (data from a local socioeconomic statistics institution). not because of the work we produce as librarians (or teachers or any other professionals) but because this is what we need to live a decent life, with access to health, good quality food, leisure, savings. and we work to be able to live, so it's only fair, right?
even if we stay capitalists, i think paying people a decent amount of money would have them go on and spend that money on stuff, so companies would still get their profits anyways. also there are a bunch of studies out there saying productivity levels rise when you have happy, healthy employees. so yeah. idk. I feel like 40 years ago that would be the norm, more people used to live stable lives. survival was not this hard. this is what we get.

I love the kids I work with but my coworkers are forming a clique to exclude me, I think it's because I'm a hard worker, an inquisist and love to figure out a game plan before starting the day and love helping the kids with their homework. While my coworkers enjoy reading their e-books, talking in the back of the classroom while putting on a movie during homework time or outside play time.

I'm a licensed massage therapist at a really great spa. I make 45% of the cost of each treatment I do so pay varies, but on average, I probably walk away with $40 - $50 an hour.
In this specific spa, I feel valued and supported and the money I make feels fair for the service I provide.
Outside of the spa, I keep 100% of the cost of the treatment and in that case, I make $75 an hour, usually plus a tip. But then I set aside 20% of that for taxes 🤷‍♀️

I’m a student and I’m a research assistant for a prof at my college (unpaid) but I get credit for it which I need to graduate and I would only be paid $7.25/hr so I’d rather take the credit and graduate then get paid and have to put off graduation longer. I’m working on plastic depolyermerization (so breaking down plastics and recycling them with chemicals!!). Very cool stuff. Over the summer I worked as a naturalist at a nature center and made $18/hr which was alright even though I hated the job because it involved working with children which was NOT marketed in the job description. I lived with my parents and now in the dorms bc there’s no way I’d pay for an apartment in this economy.

Ive never thought about it but I dont get to see the fruits of my labor outside of when i have to clean or "fix" things. We take grain in and ship it out, or in the spring we prepare loads of chemicals and fertilizer.... Joy.

I don't agree with how this country continues to punish people after they are released from prison.
I don't agree with our prison system overall, but I won't go into that.
Having felonies doesn't mean you are worth less as an employee than anyone else.
The question on applications asking about felonies ruins most chances for employment before anything else is even considered, it's one of the many ways that those who are convicted of crimes are perpetually punished, long after they serve their time.
You deserve to have a fulfilling job and a living wage, just as much as anyone else.

Like, grueling, exhausting, disgusting, personally challenging work with no other adults to talk to. Stay-at-home parents should earn a wage, or at least receive a balance of benefits equal to their contribution to society. I used to be a minister tho. I do a gentle yoga class at my library and there are a lot of people with limited mobility issues in my class. You can also look into seated workouts if that is more suited to you. Exercise looks different for everyone, all that matters is that you find something that works for you and helps to get your body moving

i'm a bartender at a hotel bar, i make close to 16/hr (canadian) plus tips (from 40-200$ per 8 hour shift). i am unionized and some people talk about our salaries, but most of our salaries are dictated by the union documentation so its really not a secret. i feel properly compensated, looking at the sales i make every day (that being said, i definitely "act my wage" - i.e. i don't bring work home, i don't work off the clock, i help out coworkers but i'm not trying to kiss ass either, etc.) i currently dont pay rent, but i expect to pay 750-850 a month once i move (plus utilities) splitting the rent 50/50 with my roommate. we both work full time.

I work at a hardware store mixing paint. I make $15.72 an hour, which is less than starting pay. If we didn't have to work for money, I'd still do this job because I love it. I feel often exploited, we are not unionized. My partner works at a competitor hardware store and makes almost $18 an hour. We don't often talk about pay, but I ask my coworkers often. I live in a three bedroom home that we rent with four people total for $2100, I pay about $500 a month. We are both part-time because our stores refuse to make us full-time, so my rent is about 1/3 of my income :)

I have a degree that doesn't afford me any upward mobility. I got put on the wrong medication. It kept me up for several days straight and messed up my stomach. I missed a month of wages from being on medical leave. I have ulcers and just came down with covid for the second time. I am in a weirdly positive mindset in spite of all this. I am a resident property manager for a self storage company. I live in an apartment on site and don’t have to pay the rent, water or electric. The non resident managers make $15/hr and I (resident manager) make $10/hr. Of course this is a huge burden off me in a lot of ways, but I am now going through a divorce, so coming up on living alone is going to be a bit tough. The cost of living alone really exceeds $10/hr. I’m really just taking it one day at a time, really loving this channel as it gets me out of mental paralysis a little, gets me to be productive and do something for myself. I’m doing my best to eat healthier and lose some weight, and just generally take care of myself better, so this channel has helped so much with that. If you dont mind the slightly expensive initial investment, a pair of gymnastic rings open a whole new door of bodyweight exercises. Ive used them for pullups, rows, pushups, dips, curls, leg raises, ab rolls, squats, hamstring curls, they are superbly useful, durable, and portable. You can get wooden ones for $40, and they last for years (you can sandpaper them if they get too smooth for example). Be cautious with them (because the rings move in space, they are inherently unstable especially for pushing exercises) but they are by far my favorite way to work out. For me, a lot of pulling exercises like bar pullups irritate my elbow, so the rings ability to move and your ability to rotate your grip is very joint friendly. You can hang them off a tree branch or really anything youre comfortable doing pullups on, I used to do weighted ones on the back of a staircase for example.
Edit: I wouldn't recommend metal rings because poorly made ones can cut your hands + feel uncomfortable, I haven't tried other materials.

So I was bedridden for a few years. IMO working out is just as if not more important as a disabled person, it just needs to be catered to each persons needs and focused on wellbeing rather than "results". If that means different methods, different equipment, physical help from others, different expecations, its still working out and its still bettering oneself. So I equate physiotherapy efforts with working out. Sometimes for me doing the chores is also working out. And sometimes I do more traditional working out. For me, its the intention I put into the movement and facing a realistic physical challenge in that moment.

I work as a nurse in the uk, I went on strike 2 years ago for better working conditions and better pay, it didn't go as planned, we had a small pay rise and bonus but it wasn't what the union originally wanted, I'm part of a union too. I work part time because of my health, so each month I earn around, converted to dollars $2,786.75 which includes over time, night shift pay and weekend pay and after I've paid my taxes. 10 years ago this wage would've been nice but with how expensive everything is, housing, food, electricity and gas, I just about get by each month. I wish I could work full time again but I'd be sacrificing my physical and mental health. Nursing is tough and working 12 hour shifts is brutal. The doctors are still striking and their union is still pushing the government but I hope things get better for all of us.
