    I look at dishes as part of the cooking process. I’m not done cooking until the dishes are finished because, scream it with me, FRESH, WET FOOD WASHES RIGHT OFF DISHES.
    Dishes suck when you wait to do them.

    • @acrollie
      @acrollie 4 месяца назад +13

      Yes but cooking takes so much energy already 😭 doing the dishes on top of that, while I’ll admit it’s really helpful, can be a daunting task

      @@acrollie very much this, I have developed a habit of rinsing the just-used dishes so that they look clean but aren’t sanitized … but then they sit there waiting for me to actually make them “clean.” When I could have just used soap and be finished w it 😭😭😭😭

      this is why i struggle to cook LMAO it's actually 2 tasks in 1. i can't cook if the dishes aren't done either, then i'll just be making more dishes i can't clean because the sink is full.

    • @kaitlyn__L
      @kaitlyn__L 4 месяца назад +2

      This is why I’m useless without a dishwasher. I can put them in the special cupboard. And rinsing first actually makes dishwasher detergent work worse due to enzymatic stuff, so I have an excuse to not do that
      And now I can focus my dishwashing energies on wooden chopsticks and cutting boards, and my fancy Japanese knife I inherited

    I already watch your main channel and have been for a while and I love the thought and passion that you put into them, but I am so grateful that I found this channel when I did. You recommended a reminder app and it has genuinely helped me so much. I struggle with adhd and sometimes feel like I literally cannot function as a normal human being. I miss assignments because I have no concept of time, forget to eat because of my medicine, miss out on opportunities simply because I couldn’t answer an email, and I find it so hard to clean because I don’t even know where to start and I get overwhelmed. I always feel like everybody else has it all together and I’m just broken and somebody like me could never be successful, but hearing that you have struggles that are so similar to mine and seeing that you can still get things done even with them, makes me feel like I can do this and that I can still function like a “normal” person. I just want you know that you genuinely, no bullshit, have helped motivate me to get my shit together, at least throughout the past week or so. So thank you and please keep making these videos because for some reason you yapping about capitalism while washing the dishes cures my adhd paralysis.

      This is such a sweet comment! It is really hard to break through barriers like these, but if you start making small differences and just make a habit of those differences, doing bigger things to improve your life will come easier later. It took me many years to get to the point I'm at now, and it just took a lot of effort finding our what works for me to keep me on track with tasks

    • @leanneissoboring776
      @leanneissoboring776 4 месяца назад

      @@sniffumevoli I think my main problem is that I spend so much energy trying to do things the “right” way instead of spending that time, like you said, figuring out what works for me. It might look wrong or disorganized to other people, but if I find a system that makes sense to me, that’s all that matters.

    Cast iron enthusiast here - regular dish soap is 100% okay, preferred in fact, to use on cookware that builds up seasoning, such as cast iron, carbon steel, carbon steel woks.
    The important thing is just making sure you dry it well by hand. Don’t just wash and then let them air dry, because the water will make them rust. That’s it.
    Anyone telling you otherwise is coming from old passed down knowledge from olden days when soap had chemicals that broke down the seasoning. Does not apply anymore.

    The anti soap thing is always so funny to me. It was true when soap had lye in it… modern soap is fine.
    It’s not even a patina, it’s a polymer chain caused by food oils bonding together. The proper stuff can’t even be touched by gentle dish soap, and my seasoning (on my carbon-steel wok and frying pan) still builds-up even when washing with detergent.
    It might build up faster without detergent, but I like to get rid of all the other oil that hasn’t polymerised. It’s fine. A bit of modern soap on your sponge won’t kill it, you need tons of soap and like an hour of hard work with steel wool to get rid of it.

    'Patina' sounds like what we cast-iron fascists would call 'Seasoning'; it's a layer of material you can get in the cast-iron that makes it almost non-stick.
    BTW, I'm not a cast iron fascist because it's better, I'm a cast iron fascist because cast-iron (or the new steel they make some pans out of) is enviornmentally friendly. They can last literally hundreds of years, and you can clean them by scrubbing them with anything and putting them in the oven on 'burn everything in this oven to cinders' tempratures. Meanwhile, non-stick pans are made out of teflon, and are functionally disposable. Show me a 30 year old non-stick pan that still works. I defy you.

    A way to create more suds and also save on dish soap is to have a little sink bowl where you put dish soap and dilute it with water, so when you dip the sponge in there and squeeze to mix, you get a satisfying amount of bubbles -- i also fill it with just water and put soap on the sponge and then squeeze it in to mix, and that gives me good amount of suds.
    My family (parents and sister) likes to put used utensils in the bowl which bothers me severely, I cannot describe how much i hate when they put dirty stuff in the clean stuff, like even thinking about it and sharing it with you is truly like messing with me

    That black wok that you have looks like it has a nonstick coating, it can just be washed like a regular pan. The other one is most likely carbon steel, and people you’re not supposed to use soap, but I’ve never really had a problem with it as as long as I heat it up and add a thin coat of oil to it afterwards ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Virtual body doubling works for me cuz physical/RL body doubling doesn’t work for me. I tend to want to talk to the person around me or i feel distracted by the person physical presence or I feel like they are hovering over me

    You cleaning your sister’s shower gave me the strength(?) inspiration, courage WHATEVER to be off my ass and accomplish a task. Just be there and feel whatever satisfaction I could by getting it done. Thank you body double…😊
