    The man asks:
-Will it be like this all my life? A succession of laundry to wash and dry. A string of food to cook and dishes to wash. Week after week, non-stop. Day after day, year after year. No respite. No rest.
    And the mountain responds:
-The cycles are sacred. The rituals are repetitive because God expresses himself geometrically in the circles. God is a circle. The routines you perform are not an exponential line to nowhere. Routines are your circles. Every time you put the folded clean clothes in the closet you close a circle. That's the point of the seeming meaninglessness of repetition. We imitate the seasons. We imitate God.

The man needs to downsize his collection of possessions if he feels like maintaining it has become a chore.
You do not need a metaphor for God to come to that conclusion. I respect the poetic nature of this, but I think the grandiose is wasted on topics like this.
If your clothes feel like a mountain to be scaled again and again, your dishes feel like a never-ending line, and you're finding self-hygeine to be exhausting, you are probably depressed or simply stretched way too thin. Downsize a bit, reevaluate where you're spending your energy, and know when to take a step back if possible.

I love seeing a new video and saying "IT'S NOAH TIME!" and then I giggle and feel less bad about how I struggle to do all my chores with my extremely full schedule - I get the important ones done! Just the chill talk through, no hype music, no hype pacing, just calm cleaning time. It's extremely good.

K.c. Davis's book "how to keep house while drowning" was a huge help for me refraining those seemingly endless tasks. She suggests viewing them as a cycle instead of a single task. So instead of "I have to do this again???" it becomes "oh I'm in this part of the cycle right now."

Instead of thinking about cleaning as a “ugh I have to do it” thing, it’s now something I do because I deserve to have a clean environment I’m comfortable in. Game changer for sure, and an easy read for those of us with short attention spans :)

Chores aren't forever, but tasks are. Weeding my garden is a chore, but it doesn't feel like one. Meanwhile every minute spent in the restaurant I work in feels like a Sisyphusian chore. Labor is the issue, not effort.

At the pizza place where I used to work I once used office supplies and receipt paper to put up a colorful little drawing of Sisyphus pushing up his boulder with the Camus quote, "One must imagine Sisyphus happy." I don't work there anymore, but as far as I know the drawing is still up there by the register.

    • @sourgreendolly7685

Interesting. I'd say it the other way. Because, to me, chores are the things we do that's basically for out life's upkeep but tasks are the actual things we do. Chores are series of tasks that one does indefinitely (which forever as far as we know) but not all tasks are chores.
It's interesting how differently terms like chore and task can be defined. I know chores are often framed as the things that just kinda suck to do, but that's everything to me 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 Personal perspective's a helluva dr-g ig

I like your approach to cleaning and talking about your own problems and view of things in a kind of light way. Cleaning can be a chore, but it doesnt have to be. Having a clean living space helps a lot with achieving other goals.

About the question “are chores forever?” The answer to that is of course yes. But i think framing the question that way makes it have an undercurrent of hopelessness and exhaustion, which makes it the wrong question to ask if you want things to improve. Thinking of doing chores like you are Sisyphus pushing a boulder up a mountain is only going to make you feel like chores are torture. Personally i’d rather think of chores like washing your hair for example. Is it a never ending task? Yes in that your hair will always get dirty and need to be washed again in the future. But also no, you finished the task, right now your hair is clean, you can go do something else now.
I’m not sure if can word this very clearly in english but what i’m trying to say is, if chores make you feel like you’re doing something pointless and never ending you should examine those feelings and determine if you might be looking at 1 big pile of laundry but feel like you are seeing an infinite pile of laundry and exhaustion. Staying in that feeling of “nothing changes no matter how hard i work, i’m tired, i will always be tired”will make every chore too big to comprehend and make it too overwhelming. Essentially a pebble starts to weigh the same as a boulder.
So what helped me was making tasks smaller! Make them casual and low stakes! Do little things in the now so it’ll be easier in the future. Empty the top part of the dishwasher while you wait for your cup noodles to heat up, empty the reservoir of the dryer after brushing your teeth, clean the floor of your room for 8 minutes and then go play a video game~ just little things to help chip away at the metaphorical boulder. There’s lots of other things that helped me but i already rambled a lot so i’ll spare us both this time lol. I hope i didn’t sound super preachy because i also really struggle with taking care of myself and my home. I have Adhd, Ocd and a bunch of other thingies that makes things unbearably difficult, but because i struggle so much i have found out what i do that made things worse and what i can do that lowers the difficulty of my struggles. I want to remind folks that there are options that might make things easier. Don’t give up! Chores are forever but so are the things that can make you happy and fulfilled! There’s always something to do and that can be terrifying and hopeful in equal measure! And sometimes all you really need to do is be nice to yourself and rest.❤

Spent several years schlepping my clothes to the laundromat. Absolutely hated it lol. I'm always so grateful for in-home washer dryers

  • @bdx96
    @bdx96 5 месяцев назад +3

I'm so happy that there is someone else I can relate to when it comes to laundry. I live in an apartment complex with a single coin washer and dryer for 8 units. That isn't so bad, but it's tough washing a load when someone is already using the washer and it's tough drying a load when the dryer doesn't work. So I end up taking my clothes to the laundromat.
But I hate taking my clothes to the laundromat, even though it's just down the street from me. The act of pulling out cash, hauling my laundry, getting quarters out of said cash, loading, waiting, and turning over into the dryer, waiting, and either folding/stuffing clothes into the basket to be immediately folded at home to prevent wrinkles; it's the bane of my existence.
I've even contemplated getting a mini portable washer for light loads (I work in healthcare, so the thought of dirty scrubs hanging out in a basket until laundry day makes me feel like a scrub) but with being in a small-ish apartment, it's not feasible.
So to the laundromat twice a month it is.... I'm just happy someone shares the same sentiments about laundry as me 😂

Just a lot of effort to hang all the clothes to dry then fold them after school and work sucks. But also doing better and getting it done now and just doing it cuz I deserve a clean home and don't need to waste away.

addressing the question on the title: i think you only stress about never ending chores when you don’t have anything else to do, dealing with self detrimental stuff, or you aren’t fulfilled with anything that is going on on your life… contrary to the current feelings towards chores, they free-up a lot of time and space (mentally and otherwise) so many people without a fulfilling life might lead them to “now what?”. maybe a lot of people feeling discouraged by their current situations of their life gives their “endless chores” and complaining about them a sense of purpose -one day i might do everything i have to do- but really it’s not about finishing all the chores for one day. maybe when you have something to strive for, no matter how small or big may be, chores are just an afterthought that you just do to have time for the other things happening in your life that gives you greater meaning… but anyways, good luck with the ants tho, xo… A.

starting to think I have ADHD, or have been thinking this for like a couple years, and these videos have been helping me when I get into that paralyzed state where I can't do anything for days or weeks. Like no bullshit, here's how to "establish healthy habits" nonsense doesn't work on me. I can't do habits. Habits suck. But I can sometimes talk myself into doing a chore if I realize it's gonna make me feel better to have gotten something done. Today I cleaned the bathroom. And it sucked. But I played some tunes and got it done and now I do feel better. shocking.

In Texas, we used to feed them malt-o-meal or cream of wheat because apparently they'll eat it and it expands in their bellies and then they basically explode. No clue if it works. Diatomaceous earth, though, I think that does.

I honestly can't wait to live in the car again for a bit. Wipe my debt and no chores! When I was forced to live in the car in worse circumstances before, that was probably the most productive time of my life. Because once I get my laundry done at the mat, and organized my car space, that was it.

Hi! I don`t know your main channel, I`m here because you inspire me to make chores, because I hate it so much. And accidently I matches with your mindset and really relate to the thing that you like to talk while doing stuff as me and boom you`re ADHD as I am, so I hope it somehow help to your statistic

Ants may be edible, yes. But I would not recommend eating the death-by-poison ants on your counter lol
