It was all part of my master plan to distract you from my takes on the movie. Well, that and me shouting out the GOAT Ridley Scott. I haven’t decided which yet! /s
Matty can't help that he's experiencing all of this out of order. We watched these in a world before every other property stole all the best parts of movies we loved. Matty, just go get mind-wiped and start over. In chronological order this time.
Matty when it comes to generic cape shit movies: "Let's fucking gooooo!!!" Matty when it comes to iconic 80s action flicks: "This fucking sucks actually".
You guys really missed out by not watching the Directors cut man. In it, its revealed that Ripleys daughter, Amanda, grew up and died while Ripley was in hypersleep. This makes everything in the movie involving her relationship with Newt sooooo much more meaningful, as she never got to truly raise a daughter of her own. Definitely a scene that should've been left in the theatrical cut though, so I can't really blame you guys for missing out. Also, (cause you know I gotta complain, you're coming at one of my favs lol) what did Newt do that was supposedly stupid?? 😭 She was one of the smartest people on that planet.
My favorite line from the whole movie that I've used so many times is, don't ask me man I only work here. I say that all the time even not at work to like my kids when I don't know the answer to a question
With Halo: Combat Evolved, I would absolutely say a lot was lifted from Aliens. You have the ship from this movie looking like the frigates from Halo and especially Halo 2, and the Marines. The even have a Sergeant Johnson so ripped from aliens. Visually, it seems so inspired from aliens, imo, the pelican design
I'm also pretty sure they've said in interviews they took almost everything from aliens lol. Some of the ship designs in Halo are straight copies of did in aliens as I recall!
Yeah this is all incredibly clear. I was amazed how similar Halo was to it when I watched. Aliens is one of the most influential sci fi cinema works in history, Matty sounds like an idiot here I'm sorry
I’m fine with Mattys take on this movie….. but not seeing how halo combat evolved evokes Alien is CRAZY lol. The flood is literally chestbursters inhabiting their prey’s body. Hidden alien that gets discovered on space and potential life ending threat. Flood is like a DIRECT rip from Aliens lol
Disagree matty halo pulled sooooooo much from this movie. the way the aliens work, the way the marines speak and look, the pelican design, and the fact that sergeant johnson is basically in that movie lol.
I disagree with Matty's opinion on this one, but I'm glad he's expressing it. If we all had the same opinion, then the discourse for the movie will run its course and become boring. Besides, hearing opinions like this will make us remember why we like or dislike movies.
Lock, you have got to do a poll about kid actor-centric movies soon 😂 I wonder how Matty would react to some movies with great kid actors. I'm thinking Stand by Me as example
I always questioned myself in why I enjoyed Aliens more than the original despite agreeing with Matty that I think Alien works better as a sci-fi thriller, and truthfully I think it boils down to the characters. Newt, Ripley, Hicks, and even all of the side characters are all iconic and take up valuable space in the film to me. I think it really comes down to preference at the end of the day, but I was just more attached to the characters and their relationships in the second film. Furthermore why Alien 3 is a gigantic slap in the face.
I have tickets for Alien Romulus in a couple hours. I CANNOT WAIT. Such a good series, and so you all know, i like every movie. Yes the first 2 are the best, but i like every one. Maybe minus the AvP movies
Just curious, but for someone whom hates kids in movies I REALLY would love to know what Matty thinks of The Lost Boys. Oh man.. please do that episode one day, Matty & Lock! Enjoy the weekend, you two.
The Alien series of films is one of the more interesting and varied franchises out there. Each one is a different sub-genre of scifi. The first one is scifi-horror, the second sci-fi action, the third and fourth are neither of those. I'm one of the few people I know who actually really likes the third one (except for the obviously poor narrative choice that everyone hates)... so I can definitely see how people take different things from different films. (Heck, there's one friend of mine from college where there was only one or two films that we agreed were good... we never went to the movies together, but we had a lot of fun conversations/arguments.) You're getting a crash course in a lot of stuff many of us built up over decades. Your ability to articulate why you like and don't like a film has already grown, and as you see more of these classics, you'll have even more examples to draw from (and I'm relatively confident some of your tastes may change, not just from seeing different iterations within the same genre from different times, but just from the experience of digesting so many films in general... and *then* the tastes will change more as you move through actual years yourself.) Really loving this journey, dude.
It doesn't even have the scariest scene between the two, and when it's the "horror focused" entry, that's a red flag imo. The relationships between Newt, Hicks and Ripley far exceed.. the cat.@DaRkLoRd-rc5yu
I’m actually with you on this one. I personally enjoy the movie but I love Alien way more than Aliens. I actually kindof enjoy Alien 3 more than Aliens lol.
Aliens is the kind of movie you rent on Blockbuster when you’re a kid. I always just thought the world in technology was interesting. I definitely think you would enjoy something like Prometheus more. The movie wasn’t marketed as having to do anything to do with aliens.
Disappointed with this take, Matty. I guess watching Aliens nearly 40 years later and not when it was still new in the 80s has something to do with it. How many games has Matty played that were inspired by Aliens?
Damn man, I respect your take and i think your opinion is total valid...even if its wrong lmao! But in all seriousness, its no worries at all. Side note: Edge of Tomorrow (featuring our father ole Tommy Cruise) is actually a live action movie of a Japanese Manga/Light Novel from the early 2000's called 'All You Need is Kill'. It's pretty cool, you should check it out after, Even if its just skimming through it.
Looking forward to when you guys get round to Prometheus and Covenant. I feel like that would be much more of what Matty is after from his Alien films. Alien 3 would be an interesting one for Matty given it’s David Fincher’s first feature film and the production problems with the studio on that one which nearly made Fincher give up filmmaking altogether.
You know matt, it's probably weird to say because the fandom as a whole does not like alien 3, but you might actually like alien 3. Because much like me, you prefer the alien in a horror more singular threat type of manner rather than a swarm action gunning down sort of thing. And number three has its issues but it returns to that single alien threat horror movie
To quote a great count of the separatist army, I've been looking forward to this! Absolutely amazing movie, I can't wait to watch this entire video and watch this movie tonight after hearing your thoughts because it is one of my favorite movies of all time not better than the first one I don't think but just as good
I actually go 1. Alien, 2. Alien 3, 3. Prometheus, 4. Aliens. Those are the only alien movies I actually really enjoy. Can’t wait for Romulus though, that has potential to be good also.
I always liked this movie as a kid watched it again a year ago and I had a similar experience. The Aliens themselves are not very scary or doing much killing visually they don't do cool things. I like the sci Fi technology the guns and computers and military style was cool. Fun fact: the part of the movie when the Marines get ambushed by the Xenomorphs and the CPT say "we! are! leaving!" And the line were the guy takes out the shotgun and says"I keep this for close encounters" is re-created in the tanker mission of call of duty 4 modern warfare. The music is also very similar for that escape sequence in both movie and the that sequence in the game
Watch the director's cut fam. It was the first movie disk i had. The director's cut of aliens was my shit!! And the whole point of the marines are to be corny. It's literally an 80s action trope lol. It made the movie better, it also inspired the fuck out of halo. Idk man, i love your takes, but i just dont think you were in the right head space for it. It's a masterpiece and in my opinion way better yan alien. But it is just an opinion lol. Im just glad you are finally getting into yhe franchise.
Kinda a heartbreaking take tbh but then again your experiencing these movies for the first time and people have their opinions maybe you’ll like alien Romulus better or something
Truly a bad take from Matty. I'm shocked he didn't like the movie that inspires so many video games and even sci-fi movies . Bill Paxton's Hudson is great by the way.
TBH, I like it a lot more than "not bad" but I do agree that the first is superior and that it is more than a bit overrated. I think it's actually the weakest of the original trilogy for me. Given how much Matt is digging Ridley's films though, The Martian has to be up soon
Bro you really need people in your corner to start letting you know if there are director cuts of films LOL let's hope you're aware of the assembly cut of alien 3 cuz that's the preferable cut even among those who don't like the film
As a very tolerant and understanding person i am staggered at how irrationally angry i am with your opinion 😅 Might be the worst take ive ever heard of anything ever
My heart broke further and further everytime he said “Ridley” instead of Ripley 😂
Fuckin Matty
He said it so much I thought I was wrong haha

just when alien fans got a win with romulus, matty comes through and gives em a devastating loss
Director’s Cut is necessary for Aliens.
Nah. It has some bonuses, but theatrical cut moves better and just has much better pace overall.
@@codyvaughn4195 but cuts out important character info like her daughter.
@@codyvaughn4195 I like the added extra scenes!
Aliens is my favorite of the series, easily.

Ripley even berates Hudson by saying that Newt survived longer than 17 days with no training.
Absolutely heartbreaking take. I have 1,500 movies logged on Letterboxd and Aliens is one of 11 movies ive given a 5/5 to
He'll love it a lot more after he sees Alien 3 lol. He'll come crawling back, begging for forgiveness, because he didn't realize how good he had it.
Matty saying Ridley instead of Ripley makes me want to pull my hair out.
Shows how much he cared about the movie lol.

I actually loved that this was more action focused
I'd love to see Lock add more of his favorite things about the movies Mathew watches
Wow. This is the first time I've heard anyone call anything about Aliens "corny."
Matty I can't believe you've done this
Disagree matty halo pulled sooooooo much from this movie. the way the aliens work, the way the marines speak and look, the pelican design, and the fact that sergeant johnson is basically in that movie lol.
The ship at the start kind of looks like the pillar of autumn as well

The extended alien cut shows the extra scene with the in the wall body placement.

I think Matty will really like Prometheus
Prometheus is so underrated, I love that one. Covenant not so much though.
Of course the muscle mommy is Matty’s favorite
Whhhhhaaaatttt this movie is awesome one of my favourites ever
HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU NOT LIKE ALIENS!!!!??!?!?!?!?!?!?

If you cant appreciate Aliens as the peak blockbuster film that it is, i dont think you should watch anymore movies.
I’m assuming this is a very very late April Fools joke.
I thought nute was one the better child actors I’ve seen imo she actually helps them out with her knowledge of surviving on the planet before them
Well at least it reaffirms my belief that Matt doesn’t always know what he’s talking about 😂 don’t hate him but his take on this movie is WRONG lol
hearing how he talks about the marines makes me wonder if he understands the politic satire and messaging.
I think he gets it, he just doesn’t like it. Like I watched starship troopers, I get the satire, I still think it’s terrible
