Man, this franchise sure loves robbing Ellen Ripley of all her victories. She saved Hicks and Newt in Aliens... Nah they dead not even 5 minutes into Alien 3, she sacrifices her life to stop Weyland-Yutani from getting the embryo of the xenomorph... Nah she just gets cloned and there's more of them years later in Resurrection. She destroys the Nostromo and seemingly the xenomorph that killed her crew... Nah it survived and killed more people. Way to undercut arguably the greatest heroine within the sci-fi genre.
In Alien3, I remember how heartbreaking it felt that Hicks and Newt were dead. But I felt the same hopelessness as Ripley, I think that was intentional so the viewer can emphasize with the main character. Yo feel the same doom as she, stranded on a prison planet. That broken glitchy voice of Bishop ment more after their death. It was really sad when she pulled the power of him. And for that alone I still love Alien 3 regardless of the other shortcomings. If they stopped there after her sacrifice, it would be a fitting end. Resurrection was only possible because a few years before the first sheep was cloned and it made that stupid plot somewhat plausible.
Also, why doesn't Hollywood consider that MAYBE Ian Holm wouldn't want them to use his likeness by reanimating him from the dead??? I'm pretty sure some of these dead actors would have something to say about doing this after they have died. It's disgusting and frankly playing with the dead. Why don't people even CONSIDER that MAYBE this could be wrong?????
The movie appeals to a younger generation that can't learn to appreciate anything that came before they were born. That's why they're fucking raving about it, because they don't know what a good movie is.
They all like the originals. Or at least tell the world that. There are a lot of 'megafans' of the franchise online saying things like 'facecrawler' or 'that movie where the queen thing has a tummy' True life long fans for sure.
You're right. I was at the theater watching with one eyebrow raised. I wasn't that impressed because I was spoiled. Raised by Ellen Ripley from Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Resurrection. I even liked the first Avp movie. Hated Prometheus and Covenant though.
@@belindaginete2931 that's not spoilt. That's just being brought up properly :) tbh in the cinema its an OK watch, and some quite tense film making, plenty of eye rolls. It just leaves a very sour taste afterwards.
The thing is the mainstream just want to latch onto something and find excuses to love it because lets be honest it sucks not enjoying stuff especially when its from an IP you love. That's why all these legacy sequels, prequels, requels etc. in these long running franchises get praise. Another thing is while we see films like Alien and Aliens as not only fun escapist entertainment but emotionally resonate pieces of art a lot of normies just see them as content and something to distract themselves with. Its like a carnival ride to them. They want the same beats as what the older stuff gave them and that's about it. Sadly, they don't care about the story, characters and lore like we do. All that matters to them is if they see familiar staples of the franchise like Xenomorphs, face huggers, pulse rifles, retro tech, an android, a character who looks like Ripley etc. Its this tug and pull of Hollywood pushing out the garbage and the consoomers swallowing it up without complaining about the taste as to why the film industry is where it is. We have to demand higher quality and refuse to pay them our money if we want anything to change.
I say we should all protest this movie with our TURDS... 💩 Just smear your SHIT all over the seats and walls of your local theater and leave. That oughta let Fox Studios know just what a STINKER this really is!
I also saw it recently when a friend group dragged me to see it. The lead girl's line delivery on some lines was HORRIBLE. I would even say that she is the worst Alien film lead, beating the previous two. There was one line she said in particular that left my jaw dropped. I think it was a scene where she asked something like "what would happen if something something something happened" can't remember the dialog, but it was early on to mid way through and it was the lead talking to her ex boyfriend.
Sigourney Weaver wasn’t just memorable in the Alien films, she was also very memorable in films such as Ghostbusters, Working Girl, Copycat, The Year of Living Dangerously, Dave, Gorillas in the Mist and even that overrated CGI-fest Avatar. That’s the mark of a truly compelling actor. The chop-and-change actors in this film were completely indistinguishable from any number of teen-actors that look like they came out of a Disney casting house. Bland in every sense of the word.
I didn't cared for Alien Romulus. It's not worth my time, and like Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes that was released a few months earlier, it's just your typical cash grab.
Too much fan service indeed. Anyone that knows the movies too well will be taken out of the film all the time. Constant flipping of musical cues from every movie, little niche sound effects, call back lines or close dialogue. the aesthetic, props, ASH, ASHES 20 YEAR OLD VINTAGE UNIFORM, Bishops damage on Ash, entire scenes lifted. People saying its not that bad are just not picking up on some of it. If you sync up Aliens and this movie I think all the gunfire in the elevator scene matches up with Ripley firing the pulse rifle in the queens chamber. It was like hearing a song intro and knowing the next words. How are you supposed to enjoy that as a plot, unless your a clapping seal.
They didn't add anything to the mythos. It was the same as it was in Prometheus/Covenant and even Alien: Resurrection. The finale was ridiculous crap, the acting wasn't good, the first half was slow & boring and the movie copied stuff literally every 8 minutes.
This movies budget was 80 million. Its current gross box office is 290 million. A movie needs to hit 2.5 times budget to hit break even. That figure is 200 million. So with this profit, all it will do is green light more garbage movies like this one. Cause Execs see it as a win. A small win. But still a win none the less.
Honestly, even the practical effects didn't look all that great to me. Sure, the inside of the ship looked good, and the xenos looked fine... I guess. Except they look better in the original 4 because of all that slime built up on them. Here, they just looked a bit too plastic? If that makes sense. Plus the facehugger puppets looked like crap. When they were going through that room, they looked like amusement park animatronics. They looked awful. So much for "going back to practical effects." Plus, where are the miniatures and models? THOSE are what I want to see as practical effects.
A "Dumpster Fire"? The only dumpster fire is the fact that dulled down audiences are willing to watch the same exact stories with the same characters and are expecting something great. Holy shit, this is getting sad. Newsflash: Producers know that you are a bunch of dulled and noncreative people who will accept ANYTHING . "Hey, they like Predator AND Alien, so why not do a mash up. They're stupid and will just accept it."

The film was too dark. I could not make out what was happening half the time. The characters one dimensional. Weak storyline. Reminded me of an 80s movie where a slasher goes after teens.
Then it's just like one of those cheap B-movies where they shoot most of the scenes at NIGHT; in order to hide alot of stuff and save on money... Go figure!

Cannot agree, fantastic movie. I’ve seen every movie, played basically all the games, read a few of the comics. I don’t really see any of the points you’ve made as holding any weight. But I respect your opinion.
So you thought the characters were good, that there wasn't a 'copy' every 10 minutes (including 'get away from her you b*tch'), and that the third act was great? Agree to disagree.
@@ramboraph4lifeWell, they basically did stuff that worked before. Every time they have tried to make something "new" with this franchise that movie has sucked.
