Okay what does that have to do with this tragedy!!. That comment is so dismissive and condescending - have some empathy for the victims and their families.
As an EMT, one of the worst calls I ever had that I'll never in my life forget was six teens (4 in the back, 2 in the front. The driver was 17 and had his little 13 year old sister with them) who tried the same thing. There was a hill crest that got a lot of teens seriously hurt when they tried to get that negative g-force, stomach floating feeling. Unfortunately for these teens, it was 4am and they were trying to jump the hill. After the street levels off again past the hill, there's a slight left curve. The tires regained traction late enough that the driver severely over corrected to the left, and at an estimated speed of 65 mph, the car began flipping off into the woods, where the top of the car made contact with a tree, completely collapsing the roof all the way in, and having a similar effect on the kids' bodies. After pronouncing each one dead, we heard moaning coming from deeper in the woods. The driver had been ejected through the windshield, and his body was resting on a tree limb about 50 feet deeper in the woods. He had agonal respirations and severe multi-system trauma, but we worked him best we could all the way to the trauma center. He unfortunately died on the way to the operating room in the hospital. This terrible story has a lesson, and that lesson is to talk to your kids about the dangers of driving fast. When they came of driving age, I showed mine pictures I took of the car after the bodies were removed. There were chunks of hair with the scalp, blood, and other gorey substances to convince them that it wasn't just a dad being a paranoid dad. This shouldn't happen to anyone else, regardless of the invincibility you feel as a teenager.
"Red Asphalt" was required watching in public school driver's ed. That ended when we let private industry charge families for the same thing - but they removed the reality of blood, guts & gore. No self-respecting industry would let THAT get shown to future customers!!!! We need MORE of this to show kids the scourge of not-so-smart phones. The father who bought his kid a brand new Corvette is a moron and in a way he deserves what happened for his wrong decision that caused his son's and another one's lives as well as a lot of suffering.

I tell kids if they're ever in a car with someone who is being reckless or drunk, tell them to stop so they can get out. If the driver refuses pretend you're going to throw up in the car. They'll pull over fast for that and the kid can make an escape. If they tell me it's their friends I point out they are not a friend when they risk your life and the lives of others.
My daughter is 13 years old, I have had this talk with her already. I love the "I am going to throw up" excuse. And yes, I will pick her up at any time, any where, and be proud of her for making the right decision. Thanks for the excuse, she will hear it tonight!

I remember back in the early 80's, there was a very similar crash that killed 5-6 high school teenagers. Someone bought the vehicle salvage, put it on a flatbed truck and parked it in front of the high school. Some people applauded, but others objected saying that it further traumatized the deceased family and friends. I applauded. Sometimes teenagers need to see what happens to a vehicle when you drive it like a dumb-ass. Youth, seat-belts, airbags, and being surrounded by metal doesn't make you invincible. AN UPDATE: Since this happened long ago, I asked a friend who was more familiar with the accident. My friend said it was the father of a 15-year girl passenger who bought and displayed the salvage. The girl's father was mad and upset with the parents of the driver (a 16-year-old) who bought their son a brand new Ford Mustang for his birthday. The girl's father wanted the crushed and mangled Ford Mustang to be a physical reminder for the driver's parents as to what happens when you give a fast high powered sports car to an immature and inexperience driver.
Seeing the vehicle that was involved in the fatal accident doesn’t do much for some kids. They don’t associate that twisted hunk of metal with driving fast and being careless. You need to show them a picture of the mangled and dismembered corpses that police take before they remove the bodies. Kids see wrecked cars all the time, on roadsides, in garages, in movies,…so a wrecked car is just another wrecked car. But show them a picture of a dead teenager with his limbs missing and his neck broken….it hits closer to home.

Which leaves "driver" destined to live the rest of their life thinking of the tragedy. Some have said here that the drivers "get over it" but that will not be the case for all of the drivers. I cant imagine.
At any other time people would say a 17 year old is just a child however they have no issue giving them keys to a 2 ton vehicle with other kids in the car to run around.
Because we live in a world where people rather spoil their kids instead of teaching them right and wrong and making them learn the value of things. Also nobody wants to ever take ANY kind of accountability nowadays.

Stupidity is not a question of age. If youre stupid at 16, youll remain stupid at 40. Some change with age, others don't. Some will stay stupid all their life.
@@astana2853 very true but there are very few teens who have the maturity to not do some stupid and dangerous things. Youth have no concept of mortality and how fragile life is. I wasn’t using the word “stupidity” so much to describe lack of intelligence, rather to describe the lack of wisdom.

Very strong cars! used to work at mercedes and we had a customer who had a head on crash with a dui driver doing 70mph and he was going 60mph only broke his ankles!
Speed alone does not determine whether a car breaks in half or but yes, speed was a factor in this particular accident. In fact, modern cars are designed to crumple and break away so the energy from a crash spreads the force around, throughout the entire vehicle. I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all but I've been in this business for over 30 years. Good day people, drive safe...
@@ash27slick74 obviously it wasn't the speed, it's was the rapid decrease of speed helped by the surrounding inanoment objects. Never heard of cars breaking apart as a safety feature, flying debris, exposure of passengers to the elements combined here with separation of engine and fuel tank might have explosive consequences
@@snoopdogg9061 Earlier cars were designed to be rigid without regard to what happened to the car and its occupants during a crash. All modern cars today, of course have crumple zones but most automobile manufacturers (definitely Mercedes), employ the breakaway feature on certain parts of the car. This has nothing to do with parts of the car becoming airborne projectiles because where the vehicle separates during impact is not an issue.
This is something that always sits in the back of my mind as a mother of now grown kids. It's all about the choices the driver makes in a moment of time and the ability of the passengers to be able to influence the driver to just stop and think about it. It's something I think we as parents have to resolve in our own hearts - whether our kids are going to be the passengers or the drivers.
My heart goes out to all of the parents of these children, but especially the family who lost two sons on one day.🙏🏾🥲 May the Peace of God which passes all understanding set guard over their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus!!🙏🏾

They ran down the hill, hit the upslope, and "caught air"... right into the back of a garbage truck. All four of them were killed instantly. They'll pull over fast for that and the kid can make an escape. If they tell me it's their friends I point out they are not a friend when they risk your life and the lives of others.

@Richard B you’re going to hell
Yep...he knocked that one outta the park.
Yep. The typical "it won't happen to me attitude".

Damn you killed 4 of your friends? I know he’s never gonna live this down
I doubt he has a functioning conscience, if he did, he would not have done this from the get go.
@@brentaudi9354 I disagree. People make mistakes all the time. Him crashing and them being dead is not what he wanted.
@@youngbo1144 going 80mph in a residential area trying to hit a jump in a minivan is not a mistake you deserve to crash just hopefully not into a little kid playing outside. Idiots
It’s not about living some thing like this down! It’s about being smart enough to value another’s life as much as your own! “Love your neighbor!” - God
@@youngbo1144 Idiot's make "mistakes" and have "accidents" all the time. Read about Darwin's theory.
When they kill someone, they should stop having the privilege of being a juvenile.
They where having fun the 17 year old did not kill them intentionally he f up not only does he have to deal with it but going to jail for a long time
Sorry I don't think that is right. I took the same risks many times in my youth and only by the grace of God nobody got hurt.
I drive slower than molasses now because I realize the dangers I was once ignorant to.
I believe the felony charge is an adult charge. I could be wrong, so we will see.
@@silverking4281 so are u saying go find me
Do you feel this way about cops...and immunity
Speed kills,I see adults speeding everyday. And anyone who thinks its ok,or no big deal, your part of the problem.
Wouldn't say it's the speed more like the incompetence when speeding
Nearly all adults do it, comments saying kids aren’t ready are probably adults who tailgate minivans with kids in the third row for driving “slow”(precious cargo, dummy, it’s a minivan)
Speed doesn't kill. It's the sudden stop that kills.
@@danc1197 WRONG BUDDY speed is a hugh factor in accidents. I'm a professional driver of 38 years. And I've seen many accidents. The majority of people are stupid and irresponsible.
What's funny is that the cops wont even pull people over anymore for speeding LOL atleast in my town
Bruh how fast do you have to drive to knock the ass off of an SUV?
17 year old driver, driving a luxury Mercedes.... I blame this on the parents.
Why bc they can afford to buy one for their child? You can't be this st... Seriously😑
@@CamaraHill no, because no parent that raises their kids to work for, and appreciate things, have respect for things - would buy them a luxury Mercedes. You gotta work your way up in this world, good parents know that, and dont start their kids out in a fancy SUV.
A very sad story, this was one of my greatest fears when my kids were younger.
Such a tragedy… my heart goes out to the families grieving the loss of their children.
So very sad. This just appeared on my feed. Prayers for the families and friends.
Seeing this is why I’m glad I never learned to drive…. As I’m epileptic, the thought of going into a seizure behind the wheel and causing an accident like this scares me a lot…. My Love&Prayers to the victims and their families❤️ this is truly heartbreaking….
The difference (if you had learned to drive) would be that you have a condition you don't have complete control over - the driver MADE A CONSCIOUS CHOICE TO SPEED OVER THAT RISE.
😳
Yup..... Lets make it about you karen 😒👏👏👏👏 congrats, you cant drive a car
Did you not watch the video? These idiots were going 80 in a residential area trying to jump a minivan
@@ronnierabell1 so spreading hate doesn't make you a Ken? Gtfoh with your idiocy.
This breaks my heart, for the families, that lost their children, and family members. My heart really goes out for the driver, and his family. Prayers for everyone.
Your heart goes out to the driver, for what? Dude is a complete idiot and better spend the rest of his life in jail.
Why does your heart go out for the driver. He lived, just killed 4 friends. Enjoy the pokey, you do know why they call it the pokey.
Nah..
But you do
MYMESSAGETOu ...WTF? WHY? HE KILLED HIS FRIENDS THROUGH ABSOLUTELY NO REASON BUT STUPIDITY. (or drink or drugs.) I think he was too young to have suffered an heart attack... I hope this prays on his mind for the rest of his life...Send him down.
Nah I feel that. You don’t know the whole story they all were probably willing to go for the ride. Sure he’s Young and too cocky made a stupid choice. it happens he obviously had no intention to crash. but he now has to live with killing 4 of his friends. He’s definitely scarred for life mentally.
May god help those families affected by this horrific accident.
Peep this for just a quick minute…
First and foremost… please know that my question is, in deed, a genuine and legitimate question that I have, as well as, one that I would like an answer to. Also, I am in ABSOLUTELY NO WAY, SHAPE, AND/OR FORM “TROLLING” you!!! I feel that “TROLLING” is very disrespectful, in general!!!
So, you just stated, “may god help those families affected by this horrific accident.”.
Now, I can most certainly agree with you on the “horrific accident” part, due to the simple fact that this was VERY HORRIFIC!!! It was also a very SAD ACCIDENT and not to mention… A VERY AVOIDABLE ACCIDENT, as well!!!
However, the one part of your comment that I cannot agree with you on is the “may god help” part. And this is where my question comes in at. I mean… theoretically, “if” their was a “god” and he could, in fact, help these grieving families… couldn’t he have just NOT allowed this fatal accident to even happen in the first place??? I have asked a many people this and the most common response is an upset, “how could you even ask that” mentality. Maybe it’s because they do not have a valid answer to this??? I don’t know what the deal is. I was always told that you will ALWAYS have question and doubt for your higher power.
Thanks in advance. Have a wonderful weekend.
@@DFWJon the OP is one of those morons who says "everything happens for a reason" ....smh

D.F.W. Jon 1- there is a God wether you believe it or not… 2- God’s existence is not validated by what he could prevent, he created human beings not robots programmed to obey every single command 3- God is not required to stop harm due to foolish decisions but at the same time he can comfort those paying the consequences of somebody else’s faults… But I completely understand you don’t believe in God and this probably won’t make much sense to you, and that is ok, you expect that from unbelievers…
My heart goes out to their loved ones😞
My most sincere condolences to the grieving family members. I can’t imagine the pain the are experiencing. Heartbreaking.
Oh my gosh, I feel for those poor parents. God be with them, I'll pray.
Really? Considering they obviously, did not raise those fools, right, I thank God that they didn't murder an innocent person. They didn't teach those kids self respect, much less respect and responsibility. I feel for the ones who will have an accident because of those balloons, when they deflate and land on someone's windshield. Good grief...Jackasses have more sense.

This is why I never will let my son get in a car with a bunch of kids
When I got my driver license I was not allowed to drive with friends in the car for the first year. That was a rule my parents set. Kids love to show off, and are susceptible to peer pressure to drive fast or recklessly.
Or daughter...
Never let them get into Anyone's Car with a Kid Driving... You do not know how many Kids will get in later.
That's awful...my prayers for the families that lost there children

We used to do this kind of stuff when I was a teen. It was so fun. We never thought for a minute we could be hurt. Just stupid kid stuff. We were lucky. Lord, this twists my heart. Lives cut short. Those poor parents. Sometimes surviving adolescence is a miracle. Prayers to the families.
We used to jump the train tracks in downtown Park Ridge "dukes of hazard" style when we were teenagers.. a buddy of mine had an olds Delta 88 and that 2 ton monster would get air for about 10 feet before slamming down in the middle of Prospect Ave...ROFL.. but we weren't idiots, we knew how to control a car.
used to hit those dips that have signs telling you to slow down with scars from people literally bottoming out going too fast we would hit them at like 75 mph and clear the street intersection about 15-20 feet and bounce 4-5 times and hit the roof of the truck i was stupid back then
I truly appreciated the intelligence & empathy of the comments from members of the public in this news video.
Jr High - Full page memorial in our yearbook for the carload of teens trying to beat a train.
High School - Full page memorial in our yearbook for the carload of teens doing the EXACT same thing these kids did.
Don't be a memorial in your yearbook, kids.
Why
The unfortunate thing is other teens will be thinking “not going to happen to me”.
@@lilybond6485 all the time… Big Facts
‘’Remember, when trying to beat the train over the tracks, even you tie you lose.”
This is called culling the herd. Survival of the smartest. It has been repeated over and over through time.
Hate to say I tried this as a adult. Railroad tracks.
Must have 2 to 3 feet of air.
The coming downs not like the movies. Glad I learned without casualties
This happened to me too. But i wasn't trying to catch air. I was doing 90 in a 30 residental zone out the in suburbs at night. Noone was around. But i felt my car lift and land perfect. Gotta love how composed Infinitis are at high speed. It never crossed mind that little lump/hill between two streets would be enough to make me catch air. I drive alot more cautiously now.
Me too, we've all done it. Lol
Check out the video on utube with the Buick lasabre getting huge air
I did it too as a teen but out on a back road jumping tracks I landed it spun around and went backwards in the ditch I got out and hitchhiked home to get my brothers truck to pull the car out of the ditch. but there was nothing where I was at just fields and ditches and railroad tracks
Young people are reckless drivers
Thanks for sharing. Teens can be daredevils. It's too bad that it ended this way.
This tragedy shows how fragile life is. In my youth, I was in 2 accidents due to my terrible judgment and feel very lucky that I'm still here.
They literally took off the entire rear end of the SUV, it had to be some ridiculous speed to do such thing in the first place...

Perfect example of “When Showing off goes wrong” . Driver deserves LIFE. 4 kids lives gone for nothing ...
@Aaron Roger they got authorization from the family to share the victims names and images. The driver is underage and they can't share because they dint have permission. Or you could bring up race for no reason
You say that like the driver is the only guilty one .....
"The driver survived" drivers mostly survived accidents like this.
