I'm new to factorio and I appreciate that you cover the basics while also respecting the intelligence of your viewers. Thank you so much for that! I'm grateful I found your stuff
Little too much "respect" for the viewers. Talks really fast after introducing a huge chunk of the game mechanics in this first video. The only way to truly get what is going on is to go play yourself, because he talks insanely fast using words like "this" and "that" while moving his cursor really fast with 100 moving parts on the screen. No real way to keep up unless you already know what's going on.
@@AbleAnderson Well, if this is the very first tutorial you're gonna see without knowing the basics then perhaps it's too fast and I think some basic knowledge is needed to get it. However I have played the game for just few hours (finished the demo from Steam learning on my own) so far so I'm at the very beginning of the path and I was able to follow easily. I have already learned quite a lot of stuff so this was really useful for me so I guess YMMV.
@@AbleAnderson I recommend playing the in game tutorial first. After that, I recommend watching one episode, doing it yourself in the game, one episode, playing the game. That way you do it yourself and use these videos to learn more tips.

Most comprehensive guide I've seen on this. Just started playing this week, used the in game tutorial to understand the fundamentals, but was looking for a good youtube guide to learn all the neat little tricks you can do for efficiency and stuff. Most of the other guides I checked out moved a little too quickly to follow what was going on, this one was perfect for me.

Just got it, I’m addicted, I automated red science for the first time and it took like two hours and a bunch of complicated stuff. This makes it a lot more simple. I also like the tips with the iron and coal at the beginning, especially coal feeding into each other. Makes a lot of sense!

Excellent tutorial! Glad I'm not the only one frustrated by the exact ratio of power, when I was first starting out and everybody kept talking about 20 boilers per pump it felt like such a stupid magic number that you just have to "know". Great job overall separating out what's customizable and fun from what's essentially necessary pre-knowledge for new players. I felt really goofy my first game when I ran coal belts to fuel all my burner inserters, only to discover they become nearly obsolete in the first 20 minutes with the electric ones! So many things like this particularly in the early game, as well as knowing what needs to be automated and what's worth just hand crafting led to a lot of frustration when I first attempted to learn Factorio. Gonna give it another shot now putting the guidance here to use. Thanks again.
I picked Factorio up just yesterday after watching one to many videos from other youtubers. And after playing around for a few minutes I felt lost. This has actually helped me to understand the game better than the tutorial. Thank you.

something i like to do for the boiler array involves using the Miniloaders mod. it does take up a little more space for the entire array(25 wide rather than 23), but it gives you a much longer lasting buffer in case the fuel line runs out and you need to outpost for a new one. the thing i do is set the array up as normal regarding the ratio and spacing for power poles, but instead of running just a belt down the middle for the boilers to draw from i run a line of iron chests and the basic miniloaders(chutes) connecting one chest to the next AND each chest to the boilers that are either side of it. this setup means that each pair of boilers has a dedicated chest full of coal that it will need to burn through before it runs out of fuel to operate. which also means that going from coal to solid fuel is as easy as emptying the chest at the end opposite the input before belting in the solid fuel.
Fantastic series my man. I have played factorio for a few years now around 300-400 hours and I still enjoy it and learn alot still, my only issue is with your mouse not pointing at things correctly lol. I wonder if you use OBS, because it happens to me sometimes on it.
Seems like the copy, paste, deconstruction planner and the other related options require the Construction Robotics technology. From what I have found online, new players just need to only unlock it once before it is available for all future games. Additional training wheels I guess.
Thanks for the info about the "pick up the ghost item" feature. Now i know it and building my huge factory will be much easier with the ability to place ghosts of machines and floors.
just got the game today, at it's core it seems simple to play and get started but difficult to master and achieve what you're capable of achieving with all the tools the game lets to gain access to. Also the feeling of figuring out how to FULLY automate something or some process is really satisfying
This is such a great video! I know it's couple f years old but I've been sat on the fence for factorio for a while now and is it can seem quite daunting but you make it sounds so easy. Definetly going to purchase it now when I get the chance
This game exposes my inner perfectionist I think I've gotten up to automating military science 3 times and just started again because I didnt like the way I've built it
And now I can understand why people say this game is addictive. The positive mental feedback from having my red science automated for the first time is immense and I rarely get that from games anymore.
Next video tomorrow! Stay tuned. I also have another video on trains if your at that point, everything you need to know to get your rail network running!
Is this a daily series? If so that’s awesome, upload some of the dead match (I think that’s what you called it) with the bitters play through, that sounded really cool!
Started playing it first time few months ago, but it got too tiresome even though i liked the game, i found this video and started playing it again after learning all these tips here about shortcuts - its completely different game now, everything just gets done on the fly. This is very helpful And yeah used to do 1 offshore pump for 1 boiler before :D
Each video in this series I try to give a few more tips, with each section but never tell you the "best" way, that's for you. And also I actually didn't like the game much when I first started as well. I put the game down for a few months same as you... And now i have near 6,000hrs?
oddly enough I think if things like red science and such were named more unique names it would be easier to remember recipes and things like how civ 6 has super awesome names for diplomatic options even the ones that are just crap tiny percent boosts
When I first tried factorio in the tutorial, I got lost so much in the new stuff. And the most annoying thing in this is when you played a lot of minecraft and you hand goes and clicks a right click on reflex and deletes the whole chest🤣 Thank you for the tutorial!
This guide it's good for beginners but one thing I dislike is how slow it is. I had some expirence with factorio before and I figured myself ,how to make a decent base with fully automated copper, iron and coal in 20 minutes and as soon as you can you can get rid of the burner mining drill becuse its just better to get electric ones as soon as you can but that just might be my opinion still good video ! Edit : spelling
I usually only build two boilers and four steam engines max, and I find that I can research solar panels without a problem. After that I just deal with no power at night until I can get oil and research accumulators. I always leave one boiler and one steam engine in place to have an incinerator to get rid of wood and excess coal that builds up in my inventory in the early game.
Ok so great vid but when I use the deconstruction plan thing it creates a Red Cross on the tree or stone… this didn’t happen on the video so I’m a bit confused on why this is happening.
The red cross means it's scheduled for the bots to deconstruct. I just hovered the planner over the trees to find the rocks and coal, but didn't actually place it down. Hope that helps!
Great video. I learned quite a bit.... but my mans. The mouse cursor was off set or something. The only problem with the video. I hope it gets fixed later in the series my man.
@@YamaKara yooooo!!!! That news is very pog. Once I finish the first one I'll watch the next one. Can't leave the first season I watched hanging like that
Hey bud, your cursor was offset so when you were circling around the oil in the beginning, when talking about map gens, you were circling one of the cliffs (I'm not new to factorio, i'm just looking for stuff i prob didn't already know)
I've been playing on this seed and your guide has been a huge help. One thing I've found though, is that because you have starting area on max (which I can totally understand), I haven't seen a single biter. Did you ever get attacked on this map, and how long did it take? It'd be sad to miss out on that part of the game entirely on my first playthrough!
Is there reason you belt raw ore, I found in my first play through its easier to straight dump from miner into furnaces and then have copper/iron belted. Only downside is it does look messier with power lines but works well
Ya can direct insert the raw from the ore patch, but I plan to mine out the entire patch, and plopping some furnaces on that will take away from the mining potential. But, lots of different ways to make it work. That's why this game is the best!
Plus one electric drill can feed two furnaces approximately (it's actually 23 drills to 42 furnaces) so if you go directly from the drill to the furnace, you're limiting your drill to half of its speed. Since you have to transfer it indirectly and using space on the ore patch with furnaces isn't good, you may as well belt it and overlap your drills zone to get the ore out of the patch as fast as possible.
Yup still 1-20-40 is best. And nope, can lay it out any way you want! As long as the ratio is correct, the distance for pipes should be irrelevant (unless you make the pipes obscenely (ie 50+) long)
Awesome thank you man. I'd been wondering if the distance for electrical and liquids mattered or would cause a drop and I just hadn't run into it yet because I haven't expanded much. If that's the case can you add more power or pumps to a system or is best to just start working on trains at that point?
@@johnmoshier3497 power can span forever and have no drawbacks. Liquid the pumps are only needed if you want to force one side of the pipe full, so... say you have 100 lengths of pipe all 1/100th full. If you put a pump at the end of that section, the end pipe is 100/100 full and the rest is 0/100 as the pump pulls all the liquid to the other side. So... that's sort of how pumps are used. Edit* ie don't need pumps really very often, very situational. But can use circuits on pumps for liquid control.
Ahhh gotcha is that how I stop having to manually add and remove and flush pipes when trying to use multiple fluids 😂 I've just recently got to chemical plant stuff and felt like an absolute moron
You don’t have to “mine” the ship pieces to get the resources from them. They are containers so you can pull resources from the same ways as any building.
I had a world, and I got my factory pretty large. all the way up to chemical, military, green, and red science packs.(almost got utility packs). But I never got attacked. I only got attacked once, and it was when I was destroying hives, and some biters followed me. Was this a bug? Because my pollution was very bad, and they had evolved a lot, but never attacked my actual base.
There are a few ways to trigger an attack vs you. Proximity (you are near them they attack) or pollution hits one of their spawners. Can check your pollution on one of the map toggles. See what's what. Unless you made it peaceful, than they never attack unless you attack them.
It should be available without mods. Also there is a newer version of this for factorio 1.0 . Bottom right there is a green box for blueprints. Used for copying items. Or Q key for copying items if you hover over them. (Ie: hover over a assembler and it will place it in your hands)
its mostly set up for either a) help you remember what you want later that you havent built b) for multiplayer to tell your friends where to build stuff or c) bots. Bots will build the ghost if you have the item in your logistics network. But mostly option C. But to answer the question, you need to craft it, than place it.
I can only reseach one thing at a time. For example i click start research and it starts that, but if i try to add something to automatically continue after the first one, when i click start research it replaces the thing i originally wanted to research. this is very frutrating, what button am I missing to actually creat a queue of projects to be researched?
Hey, are you still replying to comments because I have a question. How come I have to use a grabber to move ore from stuff but you can just move them into machines and crates with conveyers and stuff like that.
Welll... if I am reading the question correct you use the grabbers so you don't have to grab it yourself. Automate it! Later when you have 1000 furnaces and assemblers automating it is the way to keep things running
@@YamaKara I don’t think you understood but it’s fine because I found out already, thanks for the help and making these videos, recently got the game and it’s pretty fun, I’ll do as you said and learn the game myself, just needed a hint on the start as I’ve started and it’s very inconsistent and uses too much space, thanks for replying and thanks for making these videos!

Is this a daily series? If so that’s awesome, upload some of the dead match (I think that’s what you called it) with the bitters play through, that sounded really cool!
@@DiatomicYeti I will post daily until I launch a rocket. Than, possibly a Deathworld survival playthrough guide. We shall see.
I just started playing Factorio. This guide is a great help, Thx!
Glad I could help! The factory must grow!
Started playing it first time few months ago, but it got too tiresome even though i liked the game, i found this video and started playing it again after learning all these tips here about shortcuts - its completely different game now, everything just gets done on the fly. This is very helpful
And yeah used to do 1 offshore pump for 1 boiler before :D
Each video in this series I try to give a few more tips, with each section but never tell you the "best" way, that's for you. And also I actually didn't like the game much when I first started as well. I put the game down for a few months same as you... And now i have near 6,000hrs?
Thank you so much. Also i wanna say that ur voice is super chill.
Going to check this out tomorrow! Thanks for the raid.
My pleasure! Enjoy the beginner experience! Take your time and don't use others blueprints is my suggestion!
The factory must grow!
oddly enough I think if things like red science and such were named more unique names it would be easier to remember recipes and things
like how civ 6 has super awesome names for diplomatic options even the ones that are just crap tiny percent boosts
Keep the good work mate. Awesome content.
Amazing tutorial! Recently started playing and it has been quite overwhelming
Glad I could help! Even got a train and nuclear guide to... "Show you how it works" but certainly not the best methods!
When I first tried factorio in the tutorial, I got lost so much in the new stuff. And the most annoying thing in this is when you played a lot of minecraft and you hand goes and clicks a right click on reflex and deletes the whole chest🤣
Thank you for the tutorial!
kuhles video, weiter soo 🥶🥶
This guide it's good for beginners but one thing I dislike is how slow it is. I had some expirence with factorio before and I figured myself ,how to make a decent base with fully automated copper, iron and coal in 20 minutes and as soon as you can you can get rid of the burner mining drill becuse its just better to get electric ones as soon as you can but that just might be my opinion still good video !
Edit : spelling
Maybe a tad slow at the beginning, but we do launch in under 8 hours. So...not super slow! 🐌
I usually only build two boilers and four steam engines max, and I find that I can research solar panels without a problem. After that I just deal with no power at night until I can get oil and research accumulators. I always leave one boiler and one steam engine in place to have an incinerator to get rid of wood and excess coal that builds up in my inventory in the early game.
thats a very interesting power setup, never heard of anyone doing that before!
dude. this game is addicting. finding things out on your own is also fun which is what I did. turns out it's not the best lol
Ya it was just episode one it was off! (Just FYI there is a newer updated version of this series for 1.0+)
@@YamaKara yooooo!!!! That news is very pog. Once I finish the first one I'll watch the next one. Can't leave the first season I watched hanging like that
@@TheRadicalpizza ya it's a current ongoing series. New video should be out today or tomorrow, with a new episode or two each week
how do you get the blueprint section from the start?
Thank you so much! Excellent video and good instructions, just what I needed to break into factorio :)
you ever think about doing modded playthroughs like this (space exploration and angels and bobs?)
THANKS! BEST TUTORIAL BY FAR!
I love factorio
Hey bud, your cursor was offset so when you were circling around the oil in the beginning, when talking about map gens, you were circling one of the cliffs (I'm not new to factorio, i'm just looking for stuff i prob didn't already know)
Ya... thats the only video in any of my series that does that... not sure what happened there lol -_-
@@YamaKara Odd lol
I've been playing on this seed and your guide has been a huge help. One thing I've found though, is that because you have starting area on max (which I can totally understand), I haven't seen a single biter. Did you ever get attacked on this map, and how long did it take? It'd be sad to miss out on that part of the game entirely on my first playthrough!
They will always eventually attack if you build big enough. A bit of a random factor to it. Did they ever end up attacking you?
Really relaxing to listen to you!
Thanks! Mic quality has come a long way from when I started this RUclips / Twitch thing, but glad you enjoy it!
I dont have some of the icons at the bottom. Is this covered in a later video?
Is there reason you belt raw ore, I found in my first play through its easier to straight dump from miner into furnaces and then have copper/iron belted. Only downside is it does look messier with power lines but works well
Ya can direct insert the raw from the ore patch, but I plan to mine out the entire patch, and plopping some furnaces on that will take away from the mining potential. But, lots of different ways to make it work. That's why this game is the best!
@@YamaKara Ahh I see that makes sense, i guess later on once trains are going its makes that easier too.
btw you're still having that weird mouse cursor issue.
@@scarletspidernz ya the entire video is recorded same time. So, issue is through out. Fixed the problem, next episode won't have that problem. 😭
Thanks for the tutorial it was very helpful.....one thing what is ZED AND WHERE IS IT ON THE GAME??????
Zed... Zee... Its on your keyboard :P lol
dude this. Extremely useful for noobs.
Looks like Im getting into Factorio late, its a great game and a great guide thanks so much!
Good video
noticing an issue tho, in that your mouse cursor position isn't recorded properly
Only for this video! Sorry! Issue is fixed for all other videos!
Very well made tutorial
Congratulations
Is the 1:20:40 ratio still optimal for water/steam? And does it matter how it's laid out
Not meant to be a timestamp of course lol
Ahhh gotcha is that how I stop having to manually add and remove and flush pipes when trying to use multiple fluids 😂 I've just recently got to chemical plant stuff and felt like an absolute moron
nice video man! now I understand a lot more!
Thank god for this dude
Thanks Andromeda Galaxy bob! Also nice name !
@@YamaKara damn, you made him change it D:
@@yngfljm2277 apparently!
You don’t have to “mine” the ship pieces to get the resources from them. They are containers so you can pull resources from the same ways as any building.
You are 100% correct.
how to stop spawn bugs
i cant find settings off spawn bugs
i needs help mean the bugs re spawn
ps
i use mods all bobs
It's in the settings when you create your world. Personally I find the best balance for me is to just turn off expansion of the bugs.
This was great. thanks!
@@YamaKara It might've been that, because my pollution really never spread onto any of the hives, and was relatively contained.
couldnt get the burning iron drill to auto drop into furnace, right click just picks building up
It helped a lot! Thanks man
Glad! Check out the train guide if you get stuck on trains! 10 minutes and your an expert!
@@YamaKara
I have watched this video like 10 times now, just to build my first furnace lol
Hi I noticed you have all the cut and paste blueprint functions right from the start, how? If you are using a mod for that, what is it called?
It should be available without mods. Also there is a newer version of this for factorio 1.0 . Bottom right there is a green box for blueprints. Used for copying items. Or Q key for copying items if you hover over them. (Ie: hover over a assembler and it will place it in your hands)
How you get the background?
how do you get all that stuff to apear on your hotbar
For ghost builds, is there a shortcut to filling in the buildings once you have the materials, or do you just craft one and then place it manually?
its mostly set up for either a) help you remember what you want later that you havent built b) for multiplayer to tell your friends where to build stuff or c) bots.
Advanced settings, research queue availability
How do you have a character tab in crafting
Science do be sciencing
Awesome, thanks!
@@IIiiiLiiOiiIii ahh sorry I didn't understand! But this guide series should show you most of the mechanics, but not show you the "meta" so lots of room to expand. Just hotkeys, how things work, etc. ! Good luck out there engineer!
Very helpful thanks 🙏
You're welcome
Thanks For The Helpful Video!
can someone please explain to me why my lab has a flashing red bolt symbol and says no power even though its connected to the power grid?
Either your power grid is too low, or it's not properly connected. Turn on the power grid overlay to see what's actually connected!
