Like the tips you've done with putting the factory tier two next to the factory tier one in advance. Every science pack is a new challenge like adding fluid to the mix, outpost management and multi item recipes needing smart factory layout. I am new to the game 3 days in, and bro i think we dont need to get pressure over this. Like i was building smelters with that red hand to get coal from another belt and had one gap in smelters so that i can get electric current. Then realized i can just make coal and ore on one belt because coal isnt that much needed and came to the same strategy as this guy . While he is playing for years so definitely he will have better understanding of the game. Btw i watched the video to know what next after steel, because i am overwhelmed

    • @Infinite_Jester
      @Infinite_Jester 2 месяца назад

      The game has a lot of idiosyncrasies that you have to learn through trial and error. Like the logic behind combining production belts or making products go on a specific side of the belt. Once you know how belts work, making a furnace stack is somewhat intuitive, but you can easily spend several hours trying to figure out how to make your things go to the right place while making little to no progress.

    25:40 - You can make the 3:2 green circuit arrays symmetric, at least. Just leave one tile gap between each pair of green circuit assemblers, centered on the middle of the center copper wire assembler. This also allows you to use 3x yellow slow inserters to input copper wire to each green circuit assembler without throwing off the ratio of input from each wire assembler by putting just two fast inserters (which tries to draw twice as much from the center wire assembler).

    • @StormCrow42
      @StormCrow42 Год назад +7

      Crafting speed is a red herring. When starting off, you don't actually care that the assemblers are only half speed, the important part is the ratios and those don't change as long as all the machines are the same speed. 10/12 assemblers is an appropriate amount of science for a beginning base.

      I agree it can be a red herring for beginners, and I suppose I'm not with near 500 hours in. I just always think about assembly optimization from the start of each game. Maybe it's because I had to for the "There is no Spoon" achievement. I hope he'll cover it in future videos, because sooner or later you gotta consider it.

    Dear @Trupen, Thank you for this insightful video. I recently started again with Factorio and I learned a lot from this video. I had the tutorial up to 5 (the trains one) and this made me start a new game. This went kinda well till the first 4 science ones (red, green, blue and black) and things went really confusing Due lack of space, bottle necks and my lack of understanding of the new concepts like trains and bots. So I have one double life line of copper ore and and a 3 belt life line of iron ore so far.
    First I was glad to have solar panels and accumulators - until I realised that my steam engines work working night and day. Took me a bit to find out out to switch them on and off - rather how to implement an R/S construct with a simple components available (I missed the feedback loop).
    Once that was mastered came fluid chemistry. I was told the current stage is a lot easier, but still was a challenge to connect things up and the first 2x life belts (sulphur and explosives) back to the main base were born - as I did not understand trains. I tried to create a train for solid fuel, (something) to base and steel and green circuits back, but it was mainly sponged things up and never properly worked.
    Advanced fluids was okish, as I had RS-latches for heavy -> medium -> Carbon (In theory). Later I found out that 1/2 of my plants were not properly hooked up, thus not working - my RS-latch boundaries were wrong (they were setup for a single tank and now I had 5 - I wish Factorio had a % function instead of pure count - similar to accumulator ( e.g. Coal absolute and coal %).
    Last thing was growing pains. Ore patches getting low, lack of base components (e.g. copper plates, green circuits, ...) and fixing things around limited space. I wished to just abandon the old base - but had no idea how to setup a new base any better - having no blue prints and lack of understanding of the new logistics network.

      The game might be challenging in the beginning, if you want just lower the biters settings for more peaceful experience

    • @essmene
      @essmene 5 месяцев назад

      @@Trupen I did turn the biters down and with everything researched except white beaker science, they are not a problem. Problem for example is I am stuck with red belts - I have lubricant on the edge and belts in the centre, but no way to get them "neat" together, as all space is taken by spaghetti. I have Long 4 row belts of Iron and Uranion feeding into the "city", because I don´t understand trains. Main belts of copper/Iron plate running dry and new spaghetti to fill them up. I have setup Uranium Mining and enrichment that I have 30 boxes of 238 and I think around 200 units of 235. But stuck on how to automate enrichment, that I don´t starve the automation. I could build a silo, but don´t know where. Growing pains of the undecided that got afraid of complexity and thus also afraid to do a fresh start.

    My first hour in factorio:
    Burners spewing pollution, more than I need cos I can't be bothered waiting for plates.
    Being assaulted from all angles. More burners to keep up with the iron demands of more yellow ammo automation machines and turrets.
    Burner setup is sloppy but grown large and is working. It is now a lot of effort to convert the drilling from burner to electric.
    Continue with burners up until I run out of black science to research and I have no choice but to re-design the infrastructure to accommodate oil.

    It was important to show how to expand faster. Because I go add two more drills, than go build one more smelter, than go build one more steam engine, then lab, and so on. It is a lot of walking with no plan. I got the idea that crafting excess resources is not bad (if you know how to set limit in chests)

    30:12, I don't understand this. Doesn't the splitter just do this naturally? If there is a deficit on one belt and an excess on the other doesn't it merge them and fill as much as it can? I remember testing this when I was first learning about splitters and it worked how I thought it would. I saw a destiny stream where he did this same balance design to evenly split onto each side of the belt after a splitter and thought it was redundant, but I see here you teach it and seem to understand why just the splitter isn't enough. Please ELI5 lol
