Ahh! That is excellent to hear. You may not be surprised to hear this but when I first played factorio as well I didn't enjoy it... But now I am around 5000hrs played! 🤣
I was about to do the same. I was struggling with green science and figured I was too dumb to play this game, but really it just required me to rethink how to lay things out. There very much is a learning curve in a game like this as you figure out the tools and game. My biggest moment was making sure I spread things out and started to centralize belts with materials. You have a TON of space, so use it. Give you so many more options to make things work. Also underground belts save lives!
Just spend the last 12 hrs playing after your video. I really like your way to comment. Its so helpful but not overloaded at all. It would be cool if you could make some 10-15 minute long tutorials to specific things in the tech tree, explaining how to use different things. Whatever it will be, im a fan already 👍
Running out of resources can be a pain early on, but it can be one of the more relaxing challenges (as in "not getting assaulted by biters twice a minute"). There was a very entertaining Nefrums vs. AntiElitz race where they played on a map where all resource settings (number, size, richness) were set to half the original value. Another thing you could try as a beginner: double resource richness, but reduce the number ("frequency") to 50%. That won't allow you to mine as fast, but still give you about the default amount of resources in the long run. For a more challenging game, a really low size, with all everything else at default, might be a completely new experience, with lots of tiny resource deposits.
I just started the game and was about to restart my first base, this has been a godsend in learning keyboard controls and splitter usage. I legit did not know you could pick up off belts, I was either breaking my belts to reclaim resources or trying to sneak them out of my furnaces before they got grabbed by an inserted. That tip alone probably saved future me hours. Fantastic job truly, really toes the line of being super informative while respecting the audience’s time too.
Thanks! The goal of the series was to teach everyone the basics from keyboard shortcuts, to inserter manipulation and strategies but at the same time NOT show the "meta" builds and let people learn that themselves since they now have the tools! Glad I was able to help! The factory must grow!
Really appreciate this. Just wasted 2 hours on the green science tutorial because I didn't quite grasp how to automte green science correctly. Now I see how to set it all up. I wasn't building anything nearly this big and wasn't doing direct insert
After playing the game for 10 hours, I restarted 5 times, and finally got frustrated and came to RUclips for help, your videos helped so much! I now can actually play the right way and faster, thanks so much!
Yeah, the learning curve is pretty much a _cliff._ There are THREE mining designs before you even get to electric miners, one for coal, another for stone (wait, what's the rest of the planet made of???) and a third one for ore.
Another tip: shift-click the items in the research tab. plus If you didn't enable the research queue when you made your world you can use a command to enable it, you'll have to look that up though because I don't remember it. These videos have been super helpful for me though! I can't imagine where I'd be without your first video in this series!

Yo man I gotta second this, this is so true. I've had to restart the game several times from either doing completely solo attempts, or by following other main bus designs that are just so complicated from the jump, and I can never truly understand. I love how simple this guide is, easy to follow. I can watch the video, learn a few things, then go off on my own for a few hours having fun and knowing what I'm doing. Probably best guide out there.
