My advice to everyone. Please go to where they are building new homes and pick up the unused piece of wood after they are done with framing. Make sure to ask the people in charge 1st. This way you don’t look like you are stealing. It’s the best way to help the environment and build things with $0 dollar.
I work as a cleanup kid in construction, I throw away maybe 100 feet of unused 2x4s every week. And I only work like 16 hours a week

Kudos for the Video! Forgive me for the intrusion, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you thought about - Rozardner Easy Food Reality (do a google search)? It is a good one of a kind product for learning the trick to build great sheds and master woodworking minus the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my cooworker after many years got great results with it.

Trim a 2 x 4 about 1/4-3/8 thick, Then trim out the sides to hide the edges of those pickets , will add a little flare to the table . Joel .

@@NATHANBUILDS Can you share some dimensions? I couldn't open the file you posted above. Are the fence slats 5.5" wide? 1/2" thick? And overall LxWxH of the table once finished? Thanks
Hey, yes slats were 5.5 x .5 roughly. Sometimes they are a bit off though. I'll try to take a look in a couple and get you the other dimensions. Did you try both the SketchUp and the PDF plans link? Both should have full dimensions.

Nathan, I wanted to say your work is fantastic, I am building that Sofa (in Cedar like you suggested) and then this table also next week.
We do like to look of cedar, if you were to recommend something to preserve it's look, what would you suggest ?
That sounds awesome! There are many outdoor finishes you can use. I know Total Boat makes some really heavy duty polyurethanes and vanishes. I also know that Spar Urethanes and epoxy/ varnish combo works well. Mostly depends on how much work you want to do/ how durable you want the finished product to be. looks really amazing .. have you ever though to put flat wireless charger on the top of it with few USB and HD holes in the right or the left side ? i think it will be remarkable ..

No staining or sealing of the wood? Have the top slats peeled off from the wood? I was thinking of something similar but maybe using dowels to connect the top boards
You definitely could seal it, but I like the grayed out look. Once it grays I might do a light sand and use some teak oil. It still looks like new.
I love this channel. Modern builds that arent too expensive and done with average guy tools without a bunch of commercials.

This is a simple great project - thanks. My only 'remark' is that your pocket holes for one side of the legs and the top frame aren't going 'into the meat' of the wood, so they may be a bit weaker if you did them from the other side.

Yeah the glue should make up for it. So far it is holding up really well. I'm going to finish with some teak oil soon.

Hello, very nice project! Based on your sketch I redesigned it for my materials, the idea is to use 45x95 mm wood for the base, and I'm thinking to buy the same kreg jig I've never worked with. Tech specs tell that it can be applied for wood thickness only up to 38mm and I'm a bit confused if it's suitable for me?
Hey - yes it is built for 38mm or the box but I'm pretty sure you can do thicker. The screws would just be to one side so not ideal. I would go for it and test on a scrap peice of wood first. The cheaper version is 20-30$. Good luck! Here are the ones I use:

@@NATHANBUILDS I think that the best way is to use R3 but to move out the jig out of the edge 40mm. I believe that will help 2,5inch screw to exit just in the middle. The triangular calculation is needed based on drilling angle but yes can be just done empirical way on a piece of scrap

Cedar- which is almost as cheap as pine on the east coast US at the moment! Otherwise you can use pressure treated if you want, or just regular pine if you finish it with paint it poly.

Question -
So I'm planning to build an end table in a similar way. How necessary are the screws? I was planning on just gorilla gluing the whole thing together as there's not going to be anything overly heavy on it. Am I heading for disaster?
So end grain doesn't hold glue incredibly well. If this is for outside and you don't intend to use other joinery (like mortise and tenon) you could have some problems. At the very least I would probably use epoxy for those connections. TotalBoat is great if you don't have any.
*TopFineWoodworking. Com* , is a very comprehensive woodworking book! It breaks every little thing down, utilizing words, drawings, real pictures, and different diagrams. It`s unbelievably informative and helps me feel like I could help my sibling while we make our furniture together.?

Hi Nathan, I'm trying to decide on the material for an outdoor bench. Did you replace the original pine table because of the material? Does pine stand up to the weather over time? My concern with cedar is that they seem to warp a little bit.
Hey -I updated the design to be cleaner and decided on cedar for it's ability to better stand up against weather. Pine will require you to finish it with poly/ similar and to maintain that finish over time. As long as you pick good boards cedar won't warp and is much more resistant too sun and rain even without finish. You can also look at some tropical hardwoods that resist weathering well, but they are more expensive.

Hey! Depends how much you want to spend, but you can either go cheaper and get a circular saw, drill, and sander (I have links to the ones I have in the video descriptions). I demonstrate how to make this type of project with only those tools in this video: ruclips.net/video/eJTZO_FAPfM/видео.html
Or you can also get a table saw and/or miter saw and you will be able to get a bit more precise. If you don't know yet if your want to commit the first option is great! Nathan Builds thank you for the reply! As of now I have a circular saw, skill saw, mult tool sander thing, impact drill, and a normal drill. Just not the skill set 😬.
That just takes practice! Go make one of these projects and you will learn a bunch. If you are nervous about messing up expensive wood, use pine and see how it goes. You can always make a second one!

no need to finish for outdoor use? what about rain/water ?
Cedar will last just fine outside, but you can finish then. I like to wait for them to gray out first though. Check out my most recent video, where I finish these different pieces with teak oil.
Ok, what size pocket hole screws do you use for the legs? For some reason when I attach my 2x4’s in thag fashion using 2 1/2” screws it pokes right through, why is this happening?
Hey - I used 2 1/2" screws so you should be fine. The only thing I can think of, is make sure you set the depth setting on the jig for the correct depth.
I even adjusted the jig to be shorter than recommend, but still..maybe I’m drilling too deep? Regular drill or driver? And what setting?
Yes you need to have a stopper set on the drill bit to the appropriate depth so you don't drill too deep. Most kits have that included and have a guide for you.
Can u do a tutorial where both stands folds? So I can store it in my car properly and use it as mini picnic tables
